Tony Macaroni in Midlothian

So disappointed. my enthusiastic son, Ibrahim raj suggested we try this place out and the food took atleast 50 minutes to arrive. On top of that he was almost certain an employees hair was inside of his pizza. Service was great but my devastated son was extremely tearful on his way home. Sad to say we won’t be back.

When I tell you this place was one of the worst experiences I have had out I mean it. This restaurant needs to shut down it’s vile I’ll explain now. First things first they basically had nothing in such as milkshakes which isn’t extremely great and it seemed like it wasn’t a few things they didn’t have they seemed to have majority of things unavailable as I saw them going to other tables saying they don’t have it. Anyway, we ordered our food and i specifically asked for a margarita pizza (keep that in mind for later) so that was all fine we ordered and we waited. Time passed and we were all getting hungry and people who came in after us were getting served before us which is not fair at all because we waited longer for our meal, anyway it got to the point where we complained and they apparently just “put our order to one side” I mean what kind of idiotic thing to do? We were then given our meal by a very rude and unprofessional man who tried to give me a pizza with mushrooms on it although I asked for a plain margarita and then started accusing us as if it was our fault? He ran off in a strop muttering stuff under his breath which is really unprofessional of him and his tone was really nasty too. Another member of staff came over and asked what was wrong we explained and she then went to tell the kitchen staff (who are really unhygienic btw I’ll get to that in a minute) we then got our food firstly the side salad we got was literally mixed leaves from a super market chucked in a bowl which you’ll see in the photo below, then whilst I was eating my margarita pizza I noticed a hair on it which is absolutely vile it made me not want to eat it anymore, (I left that slice and moved on to the rest of the pizza because I was so hungry) the pizza was really bad quality which then made me feel sick so I had to go outside because even the atmosphere was disgusting the light above us was covered in dust, you may be able to see from the photo below, and to top of the pizza it was also sort of charcoaly which is that stuff on the plate in the picture below which was not very appealing. Another member at my table also had burger and chips and the chips look like oven chips because if you see in the photo the have some sort of ice layer on them and they are also partly green which is disgusting. Overall really really really poor experience I did not enjoy it and I hope this place gets shut down for good ive looked at previous reviews also seeming to have issues with rude customer service and the ridiculously long wait time. First and last time visiting this tony macaroni chain again I’ve went to other chains and they are still disgusting but this one has got to be by far the worst one and I’m appalled especially by that man by the way he treated us, if you want to run a good restaurant employ staff with good customer service skills and make actually edible food with At least some effort in. Will not be back and hope no one else goes through this because it was disgusting 🤢 🤢🤢🤢

Food was ok and reasonable proced and service wasn't fantastic

Understaffed. Waited really long for just water to come and even longer for the food to come and even get the bill paid. What's the worst is the mussels are not fresh and smelly.

I like Tony Macaroni. Reliable, reasonably affordable, decent Italian style food from a company who do their bit for local communities too.

Lovely place for lunch when out shopping

We loved it here. The food was really tasty and the service was brilliant. I recommend to everyone. The veggie options are good aswell.

Brilliant value for money. Pizzas are really really good and will cost less than a quarter of the big companies. Service is excellent and friendly. This restaurant can be a bit cold, so make sure you wrap up warm. Excellent.

My pasta was tasteless and my dad's cabonrara was too salty. Prices for lunch was cheap considering a main is only £6.95 if i remember it right but starters are more expensive than a main on lunch menu. 6.5 % compulsory service charge which is not bad. The tips i gave depend on how good the service i get before covid. Now no matter where i go, i had to pay up to 10% for service charge, where i do not get any service at all. It is a way of hiking the price.

Really disappointed. I ordered a burger and it was utterly flavourless. I was really hungry and that's the only reason I ate it. Just meat with no seasoning at all. The chips were badly cooked, some too soft other not cooked and hard. Essentially when I asked where the food was it came out rushed and wasn't very good. The service was good, one chap was quite rude but the lady that helped us was excellent and that made up for the overall poor experience. Not impressed.

Can't quite put my finger on exactly what is wrong with this place. Been twice before in the past year and both times were sub-par. Gave the place a "third time lucky" chance......., but, nope. It is just not good. Waited 45 minutes between starters and main course. And then second round of drinks halfway through main course was forgotten about. It was lunch time on a Monday. Was NOT busy. The person dealing with our table also insisted on memorizing the complete order. This in itself is irritating. Just write down what I am ordering & paying for, There are no extra brownie points for memory games......., and you forgot our drinks. On this occasion, my food was ok, (although I do make a better Spag Bol myself) but everyone else said their food wasn't anything particularly special. The pizzas and garlic breads taste like they are Aldi or Lidl freezer efforts. Started this review with "can't quite put my finger on", but it seems I can. Staff rubbish. Food rubbish. 3rd Strike & out! Bring back Frankie & Bennys!

This review does not come close to 1 star but is my only option, Food was disgusting I have never tasted anything quite like it, , the waiters were clueless, I ordered bruschetta and it nearly burnt my mouth off , think it was laced with some sort of chilli paste ? I. left my carbonara uneaten as it was bland and greasy , we complained about my husbands pizza it was undercooked and covered in tomato purée, tasted just like a tin of tomato purée , there was a little cheese on top in the middle , this looked like it had been made by a child, they offered to make us another, well what can I say ….no improvement on this, we didn’t eat that either , they boxed it up for us and it went straight into the bin at home, we also had cold raw in the middle chips that we left, we were charged for everything even a service charge which I told them to deduct ? What an experience , we were the ones that were made to feel embarrassed for complaining, never again…..

We were 1st in the door for lunch and seated by a nice waitress/manager?. I ordered a coffee and an alco free cocktail while we waited for our food. The Carbonara was very tasty with plenty garlic and enough to satisfy my hungry teenager. My burger came medium/well with a distinctive char grill flavour, fresh lettuce and a nicely toasted bun. Overall an excellent italian styled experience if not exactly traditional. I would definitely return as it beat the socks off the Nandos next door.

The vegan cheese is RANCID! Inedible, it smelled so bad it put everyone at the table off their food. Only chosen so someone could have a lactose free pizza. The rest of the food was very nice. The whole place looks very dirty, like it hasn’t been cleaned since the short time it’s been open. The men’s toilet cubicle door does not have a handle on the outside, so if someone’s pushed it closed it can’t be opened again. Waiters incredibly friendly and great!

The food was amazing OMG…. I ordered for spaghetti pollo picante and pizza pollo. My first time here and i will surely come back … the chef is cute tho had to ask for his name Thank you Sam i will be back for your number😂

Disappointing meal. Ordered a pizza and the 'fresh' salmon with mashed potatoes and spinach. When our mains came, the wrong pizza had been made, there were no mashed potatoes and the salmon was as thick as my finger. We had to call the waiter to inform them it was the wrong pizza and that my meal was meant to come with mashed potatoes. They apparently didn't have any mashed potatoes, so offered chips instead, which I declined. It would have been nice to be informed of the absent ingredients. I was still charged the £16.95 for the salmon (which was not fresh and like I mentioned earlier, was an extremely skinny portion) and spinach - I wish I had taken a photo as the salmon was two bites worth! I understand that they may have got numerous JustEat orders through, but feel they prioritised making those pizzas instead of our service. When the bill came, I had to ask if there would be a discount due to there not being the full menu available, to which the waitress said she offered me chips instead. Disappointing and won't be back. The restaurant was not busy (maybe 4 tables in total) yet everyone was scurrying about in a mad panic.

I went to this restaurant with my daughter. Apparently the waiter did not understand what we ordered. They said they didn’t understand what we said, I think they should have simple decency to ask us again if they don’t understand. The service was very poor, the front desk was also very rude. I was very disappointed by the overall experience, we heard good reviews about the place before but it was totally disastrous.

Food was usual top quality, service left a bit to be desired, first of all told that they don't do black coffee, asked do you do Americano ? 2 of those please. Then it took 3 attempts to get a bill that was correct, 4 attempts to get the card machine to work. Also disappointed to see you no longer get the choice of tipping in cash based on the service, just an automated amount added to the bill.

Staff here were brilliant, fast service , very friendly , food was also very tasty and good potion size, I have been to 3 other tony restaurants and this one was by far the best service and food quality,I will definitely be back to this one

Tony Macaroni's is a really good place to go if you like Italian food. The service is excellent along with the food and of course the prices. Would definitely recommend you to go there.

The restaurant was not busy but We ended up waiting for ages for drinks and to order the food. After eventually getting our drinks and then starters We waited for up to 45mins. Service was terrible and won’t be back.

Had the Caesar salad which was fine but definitely quantity over quality. Very very salty and not much other flavour. Server was enthusiastic but not hugely attentive, particularly when we were trying to pay they left us waiting for a long time. Not terrible but I wouldn't choose to go there again

Very quiet, but was a Tuesday afternoon. Can't fault the staff or the food.

Absolute shambles - no staff, no proceeses, ignoring online orders until you get there to pick up your food. Had to wait 35 mins after my collection time with no apology or even an excuse. And it’s not a one off, was same last time I was here so won’t be back. The chain at Straiton has been very much let down by complete lack of staff and those who are there are very rude. Ignoring customers (not just me) and acting like it was my fault and a hassle that I had ordered food on their website.

We've been coming here for a few years and the food is always delicious, served promptly and the portion size is generous. The staff are all polite and accommodating. We will continue to come here over the years for more special occasions and celebrations!

We had a fab meal at Toni Macaronis, Harry was very efficient, fast and friendly and food delicious with good portions.

The owners refuse to put the heating on in the restaurant been twice staff amazing food ok but being so cold it's not good to sit in freezing cold, for that reason we won't be back. Look how many are saying how cold it is 😡

Both had burgers which came with a large portion of chips. All very tasty. This was a lunch but would return for dinner.

Waited in queue for 15minutes. Then were told that there is 20 minute wait for food (which we agreed to). Took a long while to take the order and even longer to serve. The staff were really good and tried to make the best of the situation. The food was below average and got an upset stomach (suspect it was the Mac and Cheese).

Poor service - we waited for 45 mins for lunch. The waitress gave us the starters and didn't bother checking on us for 30 mins until I called her over. She then said oh are you don't with starters?! The chips were bland and so was the spinach. We had to add so much pepper and salt to eat it. The carbonara was not tasty.

Came in and was seated immediately. Ordered and got our starters within 10 mins however after over an hour still no sign of our mains. My partner went up to ask and their excuse was they had a big table even though half the restaurant was empty and plenty of people who had cane in after us had already eaten and left. When our mains finally came I was given a completely wrong dish and had to send back. Waited about another 10 mins for proper dish and was told the pastas were on the house for compensation. Also ordered a side with our mains which we never got and were charged for

Due to heating problems, not many people were in the restaurant. Food arrived promptly, hot and tasty. Garlic bread to start, and both of us had pizza.

Twe were a fair sized party and they were very attentive and service was excellent. Food very good too.

Went for a family meal for my daughter's birthday, ( age range 2 1/2 - 60) building was freezing as the heating wasn't working, service was good the waiter and waitress that worked out table were brilliant with us and the 2 1/2 year old, unfortunately it stopped there for me, my starter was overcooked and dry, I ordered the Mac Daddy Burger it was new on the menu but the macaroni burger on top was too sickly and my chips looked lovely and golden but we're very firm inside, pudding was the best bit for me, sorry but I personally won't be in a hurry to go back, the rest of the family thought the food was ok not great but ok!! On looking through the reviews thr restaurant only replies to reviews of 4 stars or above, Now what does that tell you !!!

Very dissapointed today after our visit.l had pre-booked a table and the table we got was at the back .the area was freezing cold didn't seem to be heating on.l overheard another dinner asking if heating was on.for a restuarant it was freezing.the food was so so.the staff were running about crazy trying to serve everyone.saw food being returned a no of times.the only good thing was our dessert the ice cream extravaganza.wont be returning in a hurray.

Don't usually like Tony Macaroni as a rule, but this one was different. The staff were all excellent, friendly but not intrusive. The food was very good. It's not too noisy, so I could have a conversation. I would recommend this particular restaurant.

Went for lunch on a Sunday and it was awful. Probably one of the worst dining experiences ever. We already felt like an inconvenience when we arrived as we both have gluten Allergies. But we pushed through and ordered a gf spaghetti bolognaise and a gf mushroom risotto (vegetarian). When the food came the penne pasta was only just warm borderline cold. The vegetarian mushroom risotto I ordered had chicken in it, which is absolutely shocking. No excuse for that. Even when I told staff I wasn't met with apologies and again felt like I was inconviencing them by sending it back! Nobody came back to apologise or let me know how long it would be either. By the time I got my dish my friend had already finished hers. Then when we got the bill to my surprise both dishes were still on it which they had overcharged for too (not put through as the Sunday lunch deal) and they had the audacity to put on a service charge. Honestly couldn't believe it. We usually go to Tgis but fancied a change, lesson learnt won't be back

Price wise good value for money. I felt sorry for the staff as they tried quite hard to please but they were obviously short staffed. The main problem was that the restaurant was very cold, they had small fan heaters which were not effective. I’ve heard others say they sane. You can’t enjoy a meal if your freezing cold.

You get what you pay for. Good value and I enjoyed it. Favourite of our 5 year old grandson

The central heating in the dinner wasn't working and the place was absolutely freezing. The staff all had their jackets on, as did the few customers that were seated. The toilets were out of order and only the disabled toilet was available, it had no toilet roll. The table was sticky and dirty, as were the ripped menus. The food was bland and even the cola was flat and tasted weird. The staff clearly did not want to be there, the customer service was very poor indeed. Overall, this was quite possibly the absolute worst dining experience that I have ever had. Hopefully the owners will take this onboard and clean the restaurant, fix the heating, fix the toilets, put toilet rolls in their bathroom, hire proper chefs and sort out the horrific customer service staff. This diner could be so much better if there was even a little bit of effort included.

Unfortunately on our visit tonight the heating was not working which was not great. The food was good as was the wine.

We dined here as a group of friends. We ordered pizza, pasta and a burger. The food was very good (not great, though). I would give it four stars if the service were better. The staff were clearly overloaded as there were so few of them. At one point, one of them answered a question we asked with an angry tone that we certainly did not appreciate. Overall, this restaurant offers value for money for a good Italian meal.

Very upset we could not order a take away yesterday. Was told they were too busy. What's the difference if you order or sit in. They lost 4 customers yesterday because of this. Stupid move.

Dessert was lovely, coffee always great. Decent menu, good prices. Service sometimes a bit slow, but the staff are nice and worth the wait.

We are now regular visitors to Tony Macs, mostly for the desserts I have to admit because they are AMAZING! We have only had one bad experience, and really it wasn't the fault of Tony Macs as such, it was just unfortunate luck on their part that so many floor staff called off sick on the same day (between Christmas & New Year no less), which meant service was unusually slow. On a normal day, service is very quick, the food arrives freshly cooked and piping hot, and is always delicious. Have I mentioned the absolutely delectable desserts? Seriously, if you only go to Tony Macs for one of their desserts, it'll be worth your while!

Stopped for a work lunch, ordered the Xmas menu - 3 courses for £18.50, with a lot of choice in each section. Very welcoming atmosphere. We were seated quickly, and they were genuinely very warm in their greeting. Decor is nice, fun, and clean. We got a booth so very cosy. Starter: mozzarella sticks, very nice, 4 to a portion, and a good size. They were crispy, not greasy, and the mildly spicy tomato dip was a pleasant surprise, lacking the over the top sweetness of others, with a fresh tomato flavour. Main: xmas pizza, excellent, genuinely shocked at how good it was. The crust was thin, light, with a nice char and good chew. The tomato sauce was superb, fresh, and not overly sweet, with great tomato flavour. Toppings are really going to depend on what you order, the Xmas one was far better than a "themed" pizza should have been. How they cooked Turkey twice and it still wasn't dry is some sort of Elf-magic, Santa be praised. Again, the portion was very generous, it was bigger than the plate, and I struggled to finish. Dessert: I was stuffed and had chosen the fruit salad, I asked them to make it small with no extras. Fruit was freshly cut by hand, nice selection, and served in a nice glass. I had declined the ice cream, but my boss had some with his cheesecake, he loved it - raved about it in fact. The man knows desserts, so I would say that was a big recommendation. Overall, I definitely recommend this place to everyone, excellent food, service, and at very reasonable prices. I would have paid the £18.50 for just the pizza.

Unfortunately visited on a day when the heating wasn't working so it was a bit chilly. The warm welcome & lovely food made up for it.

Everything was really nice but it wasn't warm in the restaurant. We were sitting right next to the Loo's. The door was opened every couple of minutes. The people that were looking for / going to the loo's, were quite happy.

I went in with my daughter the place was empty.I just wanted a coke and my daughter just wanted garlic bread with cheese. I was told by the waitress this was not a bar and we had to share the garlic bread.I could see her point if there was people waiting in line for a seat but as I said it was empty, so I felt this was very rude

We like Tony Macaroni and we have tried a few across Scotland. This one is probably the newest we have ever visited. The food was good and staff was extremely friendly and polite, and ensured we had everyrhing we needed at all times. We will definitely go back.

Great place. Took the kids last time out and the staff were very helpful with them regarding menus and crayons to keep them temporarily amused. The menu is huge so always something to enjoy

Took my grandma here for her birthday and it was horrible.. My husbands pizza was covered in grease and don't understand why they do not cut the pizzas 😒 The mac and cheese I had tasted weird and then understood why when walling out the door to see the kitchen absolutely covered in grease, food lying everywhere and it look very unsanitary. Not even a couple hours later, all 3 of us have been sick with sore stomachs.. Safe to say. Won't be back.

Most unfortunate experience. I took my wife and our granddaughter here, but never again!! My 10 year old granddaughter wanted mac & cheese only to find a very long hair in it after two mouthfuls, you can imagine the total disgust on her face? When I informed the waiter he said sorry, but with little concern. Understandably she didn't want anything more to eat. I asked and paid for the bill which in fairness had been reduced by the cost of her hairy main course, but total lack of management concern to what had happened.
