Elginhaugh Farm - Dining & Carvery in Midlothian

We've had a few visits to Elginhaugh, this time was for mum's birthday. Mum likes the carvery, I had Gammon steak, the others all had something different, everything was enjoyable with empty plates all round. Mum got some Carrot cake, for some reason Elginhaugh give XXXXL sized slices of cake, which is like a wee lottery win for mum, a wee slice for the next few days 👍. Elginhaugh isn't high dining, it's good food at a reasonable price. Could I get picky with some of the food,yeah probably, but mum enjoyed hers, and it was her birthday so all good 👍. Mum sometimes needs her wheelchair, which isn't a problem as everything is on the ground floor with easy access. I've no doubt we'll be back again. 4/5 🖖

I have never eaten something so bad in a restaurant. The dishes are greasy and not good. The atmosphere (none because very few people) is sad. The people at the service are nice. The toilets are either out of service or in a DEplorable DIRTY state! Honestly, it's the worst experience in England of my life.

This is my place to go to. The management and staff are always polite and quick service but......the fried fish is not fresh, it's been frozen. I hate fish that's been frozen though the batter was perfect. The chips ? Whatever has happened with chips ? Not the perfect. Chips that used to be but now they're like oven chips. Dry inside. Disappointed. Won 't be having fizh again. Shame that.

Staff nice meat on carvery good but carrots and Brussel sprouts were very hard cauliflower cheese no cheese sauce broccoli overcooked like mush

The food wasn't good my wife got fish and chips the fish was black and tasted bad and the carvery meat was bad too

I wish to thank Alex at the elginhaugh farm Midlothian for going above and beyond to accommodate my requirements regards my food as I’m dairy intolerant etc and he prepared my vegetables fresh without butter or glaze without question or complaint with an understanding attitude. So very much appreciated and a true asset to his employer Many Thanks.

If only you could give a minus for service this place would get it .

Carvery. Also sells cakes and ice cream. Geared for diners. Not so welcoming if you only want a drink.

Ordered steak it was fatty the potatoes were dry and hard I spoke to the waitress and she said she will speak with the chef and never came back to us she past us 4 or 5 times to deliver other customers food and didn’t even come back to us she probably never mentioned it to the chef

We arrived after going to go ape Dalkeith at around 5:30 on a busy sunday (mothers day) and they were fully booked until at least 7:30-8, but fortunately for us the sun was out and the hostess offered for us to sit outside where we could still have a meal. I ordered through the app and my friends went inside to order and pay, the staff were really kind and bless you could see they were working so hard, the drinks and desserts were delicious well worth the money, and we all got a carvery with extras, but our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs! For the price you get soooo much food, all of us got turkey and beef, the turkey was really moist and well seasoned, the beef did dry up a bit with the cold air but it was our fault for not getting enough gravy! Giant Yorkies that were fluffy and crispy 🤤 The staff were attentive and kind even though we were a walk in and the only table sat outside. You could definitely share portions between two adults. Will definitely be back again!!

Wouldn’t recommend, vegetables not cooked enough, roasties burnt and meat fatty. Loved visiting this restaurant but it’s went rapidly downhill😒

I asked for gluten free breakfast and bread was very dry as had no butter on it. Was asked if I wanted vegan cheese and said no. Breakfast arrived without any cheese. Think staff are mixing up intolerances

I pop into this establishment most days after work,I must say the bar staff are absolutely fantastic,food is excellent and you are always greeted with a smile and Rachel the way she deals with customers and kids is fantastic and greene king should be proud to have her.

First time here for a Friday lunch. Was quite busy but everything came in good time and tasted great too. The manager Jess was lovely and made our experience great, will be back again!

We have not been here for a good while now as we had not had a good experience with breakfast buffet previously. On saying that though this morning we were pleasantly surprised and had a great breakfast which set us up for the day. A good range of food to choose from, the coffee was lovely and everything we had was very good. The staff were attentive seating us immediately and advising us on the set up.

Long story short , very good food ( Beer battered fish and burgers delicious) , nice atmosphere and staff very friendly and helpful. U need to try cakes , tasty and big portions. We will back in here for 100 %

Walked in on a Sunday with my friend as we really fancied a Carvery. Hadn't booked table so we were lucky to get one, I would reccommend booking for a Sunday as it gets busy. Carvery was yummy, good options to choose from. Overall a nice but busy atmosphere, staff all friendly and food was wholesome.

Ate here a few weeks ago (at about 1pm) and the food was very enjoyable. The place was packed but we were served drinks quite quickly and didn’t have to queue for food - most people were already eating by this time. In spite of how hectic it was the lady who seated us helpful and Nathan who served us was great too, very patient!

Wasn't impressed with the service had to send a burger back twice and still didn't get it right, never had anyone clearing the tables we were a party of 22 for a meal for an 18th Birthday, don't think I would go back.

Not amazing, but you get what you pay for.

Great service and decent portion sizes. Our carvery portions were great for the price and the cake portions were huge. However the steaks we ordered we not well done but in fact burnt (and medium in the middle). As they were for the kids we had cut them into pieces so had to make do with some of the less cremated bits.

Waitress Sharon is one of kindest i’ve met in a while! Her smile is so contagious 😊! Food was awesome, will be back!

For someone who has worked in quite a few hospitality businesses, this was by the the worst service I have received, the food was cold and bland, workers were by far the worst thing about this place, looked like they didn’t want to be here at all, which is sad to see. Could be a result of poor management but only the workers would know. Staffing needs improvement, they walk like zombies and have no emotions, no smiles at all. Supervisor was the only smiley person around, greeted us and helped with allergy’s.

Small roast - beef, roast potatoes, and trimmings All dry, pigs in blankets overcooked with shrivelled bacon, Yorkshire pudding couldn't break with a knife, roast potatoes overcooked, very disappointing first visit Would I recommend 🤔 not after this visit. Though the Group is normally a safe bet for a lover of roast dinners.

Had a chix mix platter,disappointed no slaw,no steaks rib eye

Not overly busy for it being Valentine’s Day. Ordered at the bar as usual. Meals arrived but no drinks. Young lad at the bar hadn’t put the order through so we had eaten half the meal before they arrived. Desserts came and the table hadn’t been cleared so had to sit with a full table of left over food/plates glasses and bottles. The girl clearing that area didn’t look at our table once or ask if everything was ok. This is a few times the elginhaugh has been disappointing.

I come here very often and it never disappoints me. Staff are friendly and helpful, there’s fast food service and everything tastes so good. It’s a great place for a Sunday Roast as well!

I was recently in elginhaugh with my friend for lunch and we got the carvery. We were served by charlie, who was very polite and friendly. His knowledge of any allergies was excellent when I asked how the food was prepared as I suffer from nut allergy.

Food could be hotter in carvery. The choice of music booming out is not exactly background music that you want when eating.

Sounded lovely. Unfortunately how it sounded and how it was are two completely different things. First off… freezing cold! Had to wait 15/20 mins for it to oven heat. Second… very mean portion when it comes to the meat. It was fully bulked out with potatoes… roast potatoes, boiled potato, mashed potato. A LOT of stuffing. And some veg. The yorkies were not nice at all. Not the best. Was worth a shot but DEFINITELY won’t be ordering from here again. Yuk!

Lovely little place, only problem being that they aren't open late enough.

Myself and my family always appreciate the Carvery, very good value for money, even without the special January offer! Price of drinks are also very well priced..I only live 4 miles away from the restaurant and is on my bus route, which is ideal..

After the bone slither in my turkey it went downhill from there, dinner was cold, Bland,not seasoned. Turkey was dry and looked like I just missed the new bird, potatoes were luke warm at best, the roasters were not very good. Would not order again

Rude service ,quite rude and hostile when we only asked once where our order was when half of us were eating and other waited well over 15 minutes for the same meal,food was okay over cooked chicken rock solid to eat,so many staff standing about doing nothing while we waited for a simple order same when we ordered simple desserts also

potatoes rock hard and really cold looked like I had leftovers from afternoon carvery

It's OK for a quick lunch, you get what you pay for.

what a dinner the best I've had in a long time

Terrible Christmas Day experience. Long waits between service and poor communication (didn’t feel like there was a manager). Those with the vegetarian option watched others eat as they had been told theirs would be brought out and eventually found out they needed to go line up (after others had finished). Was two hours before desserts came and that was only after asking. Once they did, the majority were left as they were inedible (Christmas mousse tasted awful) and no mince pies as advertised. Would not go again.

We did collection yesterday (Xmas Day) to take away as our daughter was in hospital. I can honestly say this is the BEST Christmas Dinner we have ever had and the portion size was HUGE. We cannot thank you all enough for this wonderful meal, service, accommodating us at last minute and value for money. The whole team should be proud of what they put out yesterday. Thank you all so much again and we will definitely be back.

Meal was lukewarm and there was no banoffee sauce with the sticky toffee pudding so rather disappointing

The food was amazing. Especially the yorkie wrap. I also had chocolate fudge cake which was amazing. The staff as usual were very friendly and helpful

No coleslaw with the burger. No pigs in blankets with the extra yorkies and pigs in blankets. No toffee sauce on the sticky toffee pudding.

Food never arrived and restaurant weren’t even bothered just told us to get a refund from just eat. Joke.

As soon as we go into the pub/restraunt the staff couldn't of been friendly as they seated us next to the soft play area as my (2 year old) son was with me. He loved playing in there . The staff were so kind and paitent as we decided what to get ourself and my son. They showed me where the baby changing toilet are. And got a free ice cream at the end of the meal which put a massive smile on my son face

Family meal before the panto, and it was excellent. 3x carvery and 1x combo stack burger and 1x farm giant burger. Chips excellent. Very happy with the food and drink. Staff were lovely. Thank you.

Ordered set lunch, starters good value soup and mushrooms, mains dish smaller than a kids portion dry chips, carvery couldn’t slice any thinner if they tried, burger not very wam and cheese didn’t melt chips dry

Usually the food and service is very good but when we visited on Sunday 24th November we were very disappointed. The 2 tortillas to share were lacking in dressing and there was a poor helping of tortillas,not up to the usual standard by any means and poor helpings for 4 people. The two standard carvery’s took 20-25 minutes to obtain and members of staff seemed to take little interest in speeding things up which did not help the backlog. My combo burger arrived with like warm chips and vary little coleslaw.It wastiny and looked nothing like the image in the menu.Very disappointing! My friend ordered a burger which also arrived with like warm chips.I looked like a MacDonalds reject. The chicken salad consisted of lots of lettuce with a few bits of tomato and cucumber with a couple of slices of meat. Not of the usual standard. The food from the kitchens yesterday left a lot to be desired. Was this due to non regular staff. It will take a lot to encourage me and my family to return to a weekend meal as the food and service seem much better during the week without the weekend hype in prices. I would like a reply to this and no waffle please!

Driver input wrong address deliver taking him elsewhere. I had to end up taking this man’s personal telephone number to send him my address through a social media app. The food is cold. Will be phoning for a refund

Nice place Friendly atmosphere Good Food

We just are here for the first time and won't be back. We both chose the carvery followed by apple crumble and custard. The apple crumble was fine, hot and tasty BUT the carvery meal was awful. The meat was lukewarm, all of the veg were cold, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were brick hard and cold Nothing about the carvery meal was good or indeed edible. We did tell the waitress that the food was cold and the reply was "I will tell.the chef". No apology or any word from the "chef". I can't recommend this place to anyone.

Wanted gravy but rec brownish hot water but otherwise ok

I love peppercorn sauce but no lt the one from here, can't even rate it out of 10 not even worthy of a place on the scale. The chicken medley was a chicken monstrosity, quite literally tasted like frozen chicken fillets from tesco...didn't entertain the rest of the meal as I was out off with the chicken and sauce. Very very average(at a push) Pint was good.

Party of 12 adults 2 kids, our booked restaurant had to close an hr before our reservation and Elginhaugh were able to fit us in with 40 mins to go. Excellent food and service, will be 1st choice from now on- thank you!!

This place is in need of a refit! It's very dirty around the bar area and floors. Food was just okay.

Kid friendly, servers didn’t really care, food was overpriced and a little bit lacking. I mean I payed £13 for 6 tiny chicken strips and a handful of chips it was like a kids meal on big plate. Other than the food it was a relaxed feel and not too busy, which is either cause of the food or the fact we went at 11.30 on a Thursday morning??

The gravy! The gravy is enough to send me back again and again. It is never runny and always the perfect consistency for thickness and taste. The chefs carving the meat are always so friendly and the choices are fantastic. For me the best carvery I've eaten in Scotland.

Portion was not even fit for a child chips were solid un eatable wont order that again

First time trying and damn! Incredible food, great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, cake slices that are bigger than my head, no long queues, my new favourite spot for carvery! I had the large plate and guarantee i wont need to eat for 24hrs now, already looking forward to next weekends visit.

Good choice of food to suit all ages

Excellent staff and food quality! I was out with family and decided to pop into grab something to eat. I was served by David and Cameron and I must say that their service and friendliness was top notch. Food was excellent for the price and I left a happy diner. Would recommend visiting if you have the chance, you won't be disappointed
