Tom Bell Traditional Fish & Chips in Sevenoaks

This is a very poor fish and chip shop, on every level. The staff make Basil Fawlty look happy. Really poor quality; and massively overpriced. £3.10 for a dodgy 20p sausage. Criminal really. Chips are super soggy, and if you ask them to double fry so you get crispy chips they refuse. All in all. Very poor. Advice would be to swerve a mile and use another. Bat and Ball had a proper fish and chip shop. Good miles better and miles cheaper. Tom Bell. Useless and rude. Avoid.

Popped in to get a battered sausage. It was about 8:50. They gave it to me and I paid. I asked for a few chips and paid extra. While I waited for the chips I took a bite out of the battered sausage. It was stale and unpleasant. Not fresh at all. I mentioned it to the lady at the counter and so she took it from me and brought it behind the fryers to the guy cooking the food. I waited patiently for the lady to return my money but she totally ignored me. And so I asked for a refund. She said why should they give me the money back as he has cooked it. I politely pointed out that it’s irrelevant if it’s been cooked if it doesn’t taste good. At which point the guy behind the counter starts to remonstrate with me saying that they are closing, I asked for something and he cooked it and now I don’t want it. As if I should feel privileged that this guy took he time out to cook me a battered sausage and I should take it and eat regardless of what it tastes like. He seems to have forgotten the basis of his existence as a retailer. He certainly forgot the basics of cooking food for a customer. The more I tried to point it to him the more he became angered and aggressive. I took the refund and left some money originally intended for some chips as a token of my appreciation for cooking a stake and tasteless sausage which I declined to eat in the grounds that it tasted horrible but nonetheless acknowledging the fact that he cooked it for me just before he closed. Joker. Aggressive. Poor food. Never be back. Treat your customers with hostility and rudeness when they send back your inferior food.

I bought a takeaway from this Fish and Chip shop today: medium fish, chips and onion rings. The fish was more batter than fish - definitely not what is shown in their website photo. The chips were old, hard and cold.The onion rings were passable but very expensive...worked out at approx 60 pence for one onion ring! And it cost £15.60! I would give it no stars if I could. I feel really cheated and I definitely don't recommend going there to anyone. Better off to go to M&S and get a decent takeaway for a third of the price! And a lot taster and healthier too!

Called in as staying in hotel nearby and needed a quick meal Cash only shop Plus points - chip portions are large and freshly cooked but expensive Minus points - Fish cakes are bought in cheap frozen and tasteless and sold at huge margin & don’t even think about buying a drink!

Well made crunchy brown batter covering quality fish, served in decent packaging and the chips are good too. Discount before 4.30p.m. Cash only accepted...

I have visited this fish and chip shop many times and I’ve had no real complaints. Yesterday I had pie and chips around 4.30 pm and when I got home to eat my meal I found the chips dry and hard. I think they had been sitting in the chip shop warmer for quite some time. They definitely weren’t cooked recently. Very disappointed

Tried to order a delivery through deliveroo, original bill was just under £20 with a £2 rider tip, when i tried to enter my password i was diverted to a page requesting i change my password, i did then it would non let me go to checkout unless i paid a 97p restaurant tip, they also removed the free delivery this then took the bill total to £24, Tom Bell have now lost a customer due to Deliveroo, this is not the first time they have tried to have me over, they tried to double the bill on a previous order elsewhere.

The chips here are always crispy and delicious and the wings hit different. The staff bussed us free chips and they're always so nice and friendly. 5/5 would reccomend!

Popped in for two fish and chip suppers along with a saveloy and a sausage. All great taste, cooked well with friendly service.

Would give a 0 if it were possible. Forgot 4 items on our order. The coda were half portions, obviously cut in half when we ordered large (we know as we run a pub and get cod delivered regularly). The battered sausages were not cooked at all. Overall awful, and when we drove back to get our missed items and inform them of how bad the food was they were sarcastic, aggressive and rude. Will never go back.

Great fish and chips, there is no skin on the cod fillets. The fish and chip portions are very large, the mushy peas are nice but could be a larger tub. It is undoubtedly the best fish and chip shop in Sevenoaks. It’s a solid 4 star place. To go for the extra star it would need double cooked chips so they are crisper in the Dutch way, but these are great for the UK; the battered fish could be allowed to dry for longer. Really this is a great place and very close to the station, with parking on Stubbs Hill near too. If you haven’t already, give it a go.

Maybe a nice fish shop. But why can they not do a smaller bag of chips for less price.... its christmas time let's think of people that do not have much money... totally humbug not everyone has the right change

They were only accepting cash when I was there, I dont know if this is a regular thing. I ordered the chicken nuggets and medium chips. It arrived quickly, and was very tasty. The portion sizes were decent. Sauce was extra cost.

This used to be an excellent fish and chip shop, with consistently delicious crispy chips and beautifully cooked fish. But I can see that the staff have changed and the quality has reduced dramatically. I hadn’t been in for some weeks or months before I popped in last week. Although I found the quality was poor (soggy, greasy chips and equally greasy fish) I thought that perhaps it was a one off and that the next time I went in things would be back to normal. Sadly that wasn’t the case when I bought cod and chips today - the fish was better (but still not very good) but the chips were luke warm and disgustingly greasy; the whole meal was generally unpalatable. I was really hungry and ate around half but binned the rest. I’ll not be going there again for a while and must now find an alternative fish and chip shop – what a pain. I think the staff need to go away for training otherwise the shop will lose far too much custom to remain viable.

The standard of food was excellent & cooked fresh.. The portion size was great- don't order large unless you are really hungry. The food was not greasy but perfect. The staff were very efficient & friendly.Price was good less than £10 what is not to like?

While I rarely eat fried food, Tom Bell has it going on! Finally, fresh fried fluffy white fish that isn’t dripping in grease. Fresh fries/chips too!Now I see what all the fuss is about! No seating, just hit and run - quick and convenient across from the train station. Hot and fresh, made to order. Limited drink selections so step into the mini market next door for a large selection.

Consistently excellent quality & generous portions make this takeaway stand apart from others. Friendly service, fish cooked to order and always fresh. Packaging in heat retaining bags, this takeaway is superior.

They stay open late, which is a bonus. Always friendly and good size portions of food. I would like my fish with crispy batter, which sometimes it's not so I will ask next time, to make sure. Reasonably priced.

Nice fish and chips if a little expensive but very worrying food hygiene standards. The take-away is plastered in certificates but the important one - Food Standards Agency Hygiene rating - is missing. It's available via the FSA web site and shows on its last inspection it scored a mere 3 out of 5. For info 5 is very good, 4 is good and 3 is merely satisfactory with some cause for concern.

Large Cod and Chips please. Cooked to order. Very nice golden batter, flaky white fish. Generous portion of chips. Reasonable price. An ideal takeaway restaurant, very close to the Premier Inn.

I have been going to this chips shop for the last 2 years and the first year chips was good and crispy but after that they start giving me kids portion and saggy chips. Customer service really bad and I will never go back again.

Cod and chips were really bad quality. The batter was flat and greasy, the chips were not much better. The service was bad as well.

I just love the way they cook the order fresh. none of this soggy batter or cold chips. Positive staff and a well cooked meal.

We have been here a couple of times, to see if it had improved. The first time we went they didn’t have a pie we wanted (they had run out), and had forgotten to our part of the order in. They sorted that out, but it meant my husband had to return another day to get his refund. The second time the order was right, but on both occasions the food was just average. There are better fish and chip shops in the area, and this one is relatively expensive.

Opposite the main rail station, so convenient for commuters and gets very busy on weekday evenings. There are a few parking bays right outside, but doing a U-turn before or after the visit is tricky and annoys the passing drivers! Excellent food with wide choice. Only gripes: please offer smaller and cheaper portion of chips (one standard size portion is plenty for two people and you can feed a family with the large); 'large cod' is so big they break it in half to get it into their bags!

This is the only place I get my chips from. They do amazing chips with the perfect amount of salt and vinegar - good mix of fat soft chips and small crispy chips. Love love love. They do a good curry sauce also. Best fish and chips in Sevenoaks! Reasonably priced also - only downside is they only accept cash on; a positive the station is only opposite which has a cash machine.

I have had fish and chips many times from here over the years and have never been disappointed. The service is great with an efficient and friendly young man taking orders. You have to wait sometimes but it's worth it! Chips are fresh, hot and not greasy at all and fish is delicious with light, crispy batter.

Best chips ever. Ever! Just like proper seaside chips. Big fat ones with little grease and plenty salt and vinegar.

Food is always freshly cooked, great place for take-away or eat in. I can recommend the scampi, and southern fried chicken.

Tom Bell staff are always ready to take your order and it's the best F & C I've tasted. Only once had a small problem with the chips, but it was sorted immediately. It was nothing serious and we still support them!

I popped into Tom Bell Fish & Chips opposite Sevenoaks Rail Station as it was a cold day, I was hungry and I needed warming through. I just ordered a portion of chips, and they were simply excellent...!!

Takeaway , in the afternoon, no rush, but the chips were fried to perfection, hot, right spuds, etc. Can't go wrong.

A good fish and chip takeaway that is opposite Sevenoaks Railway Station. There is no cafe space. Probably the best fish and chips in Sevenoaks. You can park outside but only for long enough to buy and collect your food.They also sell fried chicken,pies, sausages and pea fritters.

This is a handy fish and chip shop well located directly opposite Sevenoaks railway station. The food is reliable, good portions and there's an area downstairs if you want to eat in. If you're grabbing a take away, there are parking spaces directly outside, or take the first left and park there.

Handily situated just opposite the station. Good selection of fish and chips very tasty. Call in and try. Usually get the meal when I am in the area. .

Popped in early one evening and after a long wait left with Cod and Chips. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised! Chips were hot and tasted great and fish was crispy and lovely. This was first visit but would definetly return for more if in the area.

Always cook to order. The cod and haddock are always fresh and bright. Nice batter. Friendly staff. Always busy with a fantastic business from commuters from the nearby station. We can't all be wrong. Recommended.

This used to be an excellent chip shop. Years ago, I used to travel miles to get a take away from here. However, the owners appear to not care about the quality and are now letting it slip.

Have visited this Chip shop for 20 years and it always used to great. For 6 months though we have avoided it as the food had been well below average and when telling staff the food wasn't great you just got a shrug of the shoulders. Chips tasting old, reheated and with horrid old oil. Fish was as bad. In the last month we decided to give them another try as we had been very loyal customers and the food does seem to be getting back to how it used to be.

The chips were very nice, the fish was not crispy enough to my taste but was ok. We wanted to take small portions but the server told us that they ran out so we had no choice but to take large ones, this was quite disappointing and of course the portions were too big for us (we should have shared one for two). We were not impressed by the service, not very friendly or professional.

I've been to Tom Bells just outside the station in Sevenoaks many times and the food has always been very good - large portions, freshly cooked, tasty and tender fish, etc, albeit on the more expensive side. However, what I was served a few nights ago was not that at all and I really hope that this was a once off, as there are many other places to go in Sevenoaks for fish and chips.
