Toll House Inn in Lancaster

Stayed here this weekend. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and modern with everything you could need in them with lots of little extra finishing touches. Breakfast was the best we've had in a long long time. Can recommend the Eggs Benedict in particular. Practically Perfect in Every Way. Will stay again

Called in tonight for a meal for 2. They had a party in which took maybe 2 tables. There were a few empty tables, however when asked if they could accommodate a table for 2 the waitress went to ask the kitchen who said no. It wasn't particularly busy and it just seemed like the kitchen were being lazy and wanted an early finish. This was around 7pm so not like it was late. We have been a few times before but it kind of puts you off wanting to return

Called in on the off chance, lovely old building, excellent food, great selection of Thwaites beers and a very good wine list! The waitress who served us was friendly, helpful and efficient!

Have eaten here four times this year and felt it was my favourite place to eat. Until tonight. My favourite crispy beef tacos had been removed from the menu to be replaced by crispy beef bao buns. These were very disappointing and at £11 each were certainly not worth their cost with hardly any beef and very “doughy”. The cheese and onion pie I normally have had a very hard and crispy crust and the spring greens were tasteless (in comparison to the fine beans I had when I first ate here). Something my husband ordered didn’t arrive and at over £10 for a glass of rose I felt the whole experience was not worth the cost. I appreciate overheads have increased in the hospitality industry and don’t mind paying for an excellent meal, sadly however this wasn’t and we won’t return.

Very enjoyable 2 night stay. Friendly helpful staff, clean and comfortable room, good choices for the freshly prepared breakfast. We arrived by train so didn't need to think about parking. Would be happy to return at a future date

Simple dishes, beautifully cooked, and excellent value. On first sight this busy bar-restaurant looks completely typical of a town centre inn. Rather noisy. Plenty of local people meeting for drinks, parties, meals. What sets it apart is the quality of the restaurant. Recently awarded 2AA rosettes, the menu has a full range of dishes, including pub regulars like fish and chips, hamburgers, steaks etc. But look on the right of the menu for seasonal specials and you will find venison, fish of the day, a vegetarian special. Venison was loin medallions, perfectly cooked and wonderfully tender, accompanied by a venison suet pudding, creamed celeriac and a home produced fragrant jus (or gravy as they call it in Lancashire). A fillet of turbot was fresh, perfectly cooked (though possibly a bit over-seasoned) accompanied by braised fennel. Apart from some steaks, all main courses were priced under £30. A short but varied wine list was excellent value. In a world oversupplied by indifferent pub restaurants, this is the kind of place to restore your faith in British hospitality. Keep up the good work, people, and chain your chef to the kitchen; cooking this good and this consistent is too rarely encountered at these prices.

very helpful and polite staff. The room we stayed in was spotless. brerakfast was of good quality. location was so close to the city centre. We would definitly stay at the toll house again.

Stopped in Lancaster for lunch on our drive from Manchester to Edinburgh. Of the local antique shop owners recommended it. Food was excellent and service was great. I forgot my wallet there and I didn’t realize it until I got to my hotel in Edinburgh. Obviously loosing your wallet while driving around in a foreign country is very nerve wracking. My sister called the Inn, they had recovered it and kept it safe for me. On our way back to SW England, I was able to retrieve my unscathed wallet and was more than happy to tip the honest folks who work there. 10/10 would recommend.

Real nice hotel in a good location for accessing the city centre. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I had an evening meal and it was excellent. The only improvement I would make is a slightly larger desk as there was limited room on the small desk to work on a laptop (business trip) with a kettle, coffee machine, cups and selection of drinks.

Great modern hotel with a well thought out stay experience, kind staff and comfortable beds. Downside rooms are a little compact, and you aren't able to open a window. Food in the restaurant is surprisingly very good for a hotel. I think it's definitely one of the best eats in Lancaster

Great pub for lunch or dinner. They also do an impressive afternoon tea.

Best steaks in lancaster .cooked to perfection. Chips could do with improving. Make your own with quality potatoes. Top tip

Stayed here for 3 nights at New year. Had a great time . Amazing staff, Had the fish pie 2 nights running it was that good. Everyone made our new year very special. Can't wait to return as we love this gorgeous hotel

Went for a pre Christmas early dinner with friends. The ladies had a full on turkey meal which they thought was really excellent. The gents settled for a massive portion of fish and chips which was absolutely bob on. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and great selection of wines and ales.

Vistised the pub a couple of times, food is alright, main dishes I tried (burger and the special Christmas turkey) didn't blow me away, but desserts are amazing :) I also love the atmosphere and staff are always there to help

Always a nice meal....My friend and I go for lunch and an afternoon out. Staff are second to none.....they're excellent and we always enjoy an afternoon with them....toll House you never disappoint.

Check-in to check-out was seamless, friendly helpful staff, beautiful room, perfect location and delicious food. Can't fault it, lovely stay, definitely recommend, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed at the Toll House for one night. Very enjoyable stay. Close to the rail station and town centre. Enjoyed a lovely steak from the specials menu with horseradish mash, local field mushrooms and crispy kale, was cooked perfectly. Room was good very adequate for one night's stay. Breakfast was lovely again well cooked. Would certainly stay again if in the area and highly recommend.

We have just enjoyed a very good 4 night stay. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Our access room was perfect and the mattress was the best we ever slept on. Enjoyed evening meals which were really good. Overall nothing we didn't like about it so our visit was exceptional

Very nice and comfortable Rooms. I enjoyed my stay for 3 days. The courtyard is simply awesome to sit and have a coffee. Rooms are really good and the staff Is really helpful and shows a friendly gesture.

Sooo does it worth the amount of money you pay? 120£ for one person one night ? For me is a maybe. However, the location is good, their breakfast was excellent in taste and quantity! Their service is very good BUT the room it was a nice clean room thats about it. Their meeting room is not better than okay. The tables are wiggly, the chairs uncomfortable and dont fit to the table, but again service with tea, coffee etc was excellent 👌

Stayed for one night, had dinner and breakfast. It was all spot on. We especially enjoyed our dinner, there was a great choice of food and drink, it was all really tasty and with friendly service. Our room was cosy, clean and a good temperature.

Great location, beautiful building, great service, car park over the road (literally) , excellent breakfast - lots of options and quick service! Slight bit of mould in the bathroom, which lead to a slight foisty smell but it was managable for a short visit. I would definitely stay here again.

Good place to stay a night. Limited parking. Rooms small but ok. Lots of noise from the street level when windows were open

There is no free parking the food is ok but very overpriced as are the drinks but other other hand the staff are lovely and polite and professional

Stayed here for 3 nights and the stay was excellent from start to finish. The staff were brilliant and even served me tea early before the morning service so I could do my work in the dining room. Breakfast was great as was the room and they even had real Lancashire ales! Very good central location for the city. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent! Staff were exceptional and very professional, smiles all round and nothing was too much bother, our room was immaculate, and facilities were spot on. From air con to plate for my hair strainers. Lovely little beer garden with heaters. Breakfast was bang on. Our only disappointment (our own fault) was that we didn’t eat there other than breakfast, the food coming from the kitchen looked amazing. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stayed on a short break and did not disappoint..from start to finish staff the rooms and food, decor, location and atmosphere was ideal!! Would highly recommend and wouldn't think twice about booking this spot again great job guy's 👍🏻

Bits that need TLC but overall great stay

We recently stayed at The toll house, using the hotel, basically, as a base while we came up to visit the family for a christening. The food is really good, absolutely delicious [ the family were more than happy to join us for supper AND Breakfast before we left.] The room was spotless & functional. Meticulously Clean bathroom: Nice touch was the coffee machine in the room, & pods to use with it. The strongest Suit of the hotel, however has to be the staff. Without exception, all of the staff in & around the bar & restaurant area were really friendly, helpful & obliging. Special “shout-out” to Ellie who became a best friend to my eldest granddaughter when they discovered they were both called Ellie!!! Rob was also more than brilliant, really friendly & nothing was ever too much trouble! A Great Stay enjoyed by all will definitely return.

We went for lunch and we weren't disappointed, the service and food were very good. We had the risotto, cheese and onion pie and fish and chips and I ordered the toll house curry sauce for dipping my chips. All the arrived hot and was delicious. The thick chips were really good. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the curry sauce, it was far too fruity for my taste. We will be back

Trusted the ratings, was not disappointed, right on the canal and near the walking street convenient to everything in town and great breakfast. Definitely a perfect location for visiting Lancaster would come back!

My friend booked us for my birthday treat. We had a 3 course meal which was excellent. Top quality food and a price to match. There were plenty of options on the menu to suit all budgets though including burgers.
