We landed in Scotland and straight into Tipsy Midgie—Colin was so welcoming and knowledgeable! We walked in as total whisky novices and walked away feeling like whisky enthusiasts. Blessed to have found a whisky I loved so early in our trip. Couldn’t recommend the place more!

Very nice whisky bar. We stumbled in after a very long and rainy day in Edinburgh. When we came in we felt very welcome and relax. A nice small bar wich was not too crowded. The staff had a lot of knowledge and were very nice. They gave us some advice for the rest of our Scotland trip. We had about 6 drams and decided to get another one. Prices were good especially compared to other whisky bars. Would recommend it to everyone!

The best whisky spot in Edinburgh and hands down the best I’ve ever been to period. Colin is an absolute legend and his staff make you feel like your coming home every time you walk in. Cannot recommend this place enough. It’s the highlight of my trips when I come to edinburgh from Canada!

This is a can't-miss destination for everyone from the mildly whisky-curious to the most hardcore of geeks. It is one that I wish had existed when I lived nearby - though it may have been responsible for liver failure if it had! Their selection is incredible, and, at a time when whisky seems to becoming less accessible because of rising prices, the prices are scrupulously fair. I saw drams priced for less than half that I have seen charged for them at other whisky bars. Colin and his staff are wonderful hosts, and Colin took the time to chat about whisky generally and the approach he takes to running his bar and promoting whisky to his guests. The menu is full of clever and fun touches like chocolate and whisky pairings, and 'Alpha & Omega', a list of drams paired with the type of wine that was held in the type of cask each whisky was matured in. It is located ever-so-slightly off the beaten path in a residential area, but is close to Arthur's seat and right beside the Holyrood Distillery and is an ideal follow-up to visiting either. I visited mid-Fringe, and it was a welcome oasis of calm from the crowds outside... which makes no sense as this place should be packed with locals and tourists alike! I cannot possibly recommend Tipsy Midgie highly enough.

Tipsy Midge Whisky Bar boasts an impressive collection of over 1,000 bottles, from the rarest and most exclusive to affordable drams, featuring unique offerings from nearly every distillery you can imagine. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, with just a few tables creating a warm, welcoming environment. Colin and his team are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, making us feel right at home. We had a great chat about whiskey, Scotland, and more, enhancing our experience. During our tasting, we sampled around ten different drams, broadening our palates. I’m a fan of smoky drams, and I was introduced to Woodrow’s, which was wonderfully smoky. My wife, who prefers whiskeys finished in sherry casks, enjoyed Tamdhu from Speyside, which was absolutely delicious. With the largest collection of whiskey I've ever seen, Colin's whiskey bar is a must-visit for any whiskey enthusiast or those curious about whiskey.

Wonderful. I'll be gushing about this place to anyone who'll listen. The real deal, unpretentious, and attracts a group of fine people I'll gladly hang with any night. Was fortunate to sit one of the Thursday tastings and have a great chat with a couple who are regulars. Went on to taste a handful of other drams together. Came here on 4th of July to celebrate as an American 🦅🦅🦅 I highly recommend! The scotch was great and the service was even better.

Fully dedicated to whiskies. They probably have 1000s of variants. Highly recommend the place if you are a whisky lover. The hosts were nice too. Note: they don’t have any food whatsoever. Not even bar bites so please plan accordingly

His hospitality was top notch and he is there to guide you through a tasting journey that suits all palates from mellow, bold, peated, or not; the suggestions are sure to please.

This place is fantastic! Very friendly and knowledgeable bartender (I think her name was Sarah?), cool atmosphere, great prices, and the whiskey selection is probably one of the best I've ever seen. Im not sure if they serve food as we only ordered drinks but I don't want it showing up in reviews as 0 stars. So that food rating is for drinks btw.

The chocolate and Whiskey tasting is beyond fun! Highly recommend it for a fun date, or a cool hangout ! Sarah, our hostess, was beyond professional. She gave us a brief history on where each dram was from and what kind of chocolate was best paired with it, but she insisted that there’s no wrong way to do it. It was a blast!!!! Will be definitely stopping here again and recommending this spot for friends.

An amazing bar. As a local, and whisky lover, I cannot recommend this place enough. Colin has a track record of Michelin level in the industry. Together with Sarah as bar manager, the whisky experience is out of this world. They will dial you into what you want. Prices are well below what you will get near the Royal Mile!

Warmly greeted upon entrance. Colin is a wonderful host. His inventory and knowledge is extraordinary. Try to get a ticket to their Thursday night distillery tasting - though these are largely taken up by a loyal and friendly, faithful tribe.

Colin is a true professional. Passionate and experienced. I am not a whiskey drinker but he invented a cocktail which was delicious and to my taste. Sarah was a fantastic host and customer service is second to none. I genuinely cannot recommend this bar enough for experience, banter and bespoke visit.

Lovely little bar with a great atmosphere. Went for the Sunday flight as someone with limited knowledge of whiskey and got lots of useful advice and guidance from Sarah who was very attentive throughout the night, along with the other staff. Will definitely be back! :)

We arrived and were given some water while we perused the drinks menu. Colin came over and introduced himself to us and asked if we had any questions or needed help to chose. I chose sherry cask finish for £29, Lochlea Fallow, Aberlour A’Bunadh and Macallan Lumina. The bar has a huge selection of whisky and this paired with Colins Knowledge made for a very enjoyable night. The place has a luxurious feel compared to my previous visits to the JEANIE DEANS. Great experience and I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

A must stop for the whiskey lovers. This bar has received many awards and the owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. I learnt a lot about whiskey: what matters, how to smell it and taste it, the different flavours, all these while enjoying a very nice tasting flight, from a selection of 1000s of bottles available at the bar, from different places around the world.

The best place for a dram when I’m Glasgow!

This is the place to go for a low-key and high-quality whisky experience in Edinburgh. The collection is huge and replete with rare bottles, the prices are great, and the owner is an excellent guy. You can’t beat that. This is a new favorite—I’ll be back whenever I’m in town.

Hands down best whisky bar I have ever been to. Enormous selection at extremely cheap prices is only the beginning of the story. The owner, an extremely knowledgeable and gentlemanly veteran of the whisky industry takes time to have in depth conversations about whisky with every customer, no matter their budget or level of expertise. He talked to me and my wife for two hours and in this time I learned about as much as I learn in a year. Absolute highlight of any trip to Scotland.

Went to the Tipsy Midge last evening based off of all the great reviews and Collin (owner) delivered. What an amazing experience I had. Not only is his whisky selection huge, but it's full of hard-to-find bottles. He's super friendly and loves to share his knowledge of whisky. Every whisky lover who visits Edinburgh should try to make a visit.

Amazing place! Must visit if you want a very unique whiskey experience served up by a whiskey connoisseur! Collin can embalm your pallet with more than 700 different whiskeys and boy did he change our mind about peated whiskey! Not only did he offer us two unbelievable drums on top but also took a lot of time to answer all our whiskey newbee questions. He also leaves out the bottles once served so you can take a look at what your sipping on and also pictures should you realise you actually need that bottle in your life! Overall it was a fantastic night thanks to a top notch guy with top notch whiskey! 10/10

A great spot for whisky lovers and indeed whisky novices like myself. Colin Hinds who owns this place is a veritable oracle for all things whisky. Based on your palate you can get a whisky you'll like. Also has beer and gin. Located near to the Holyrood Distillery so a great stop after any distillery visit.

We popped into this little bar to have a quick drink on route to somewhere and had a fab hour with a very knowledgeable and passionate owner. We both had a highball cocktail each and they were delicious. If you like whiskey or want to learn more about it you definitely need to visit, the range of whiskey available is extensive and the owner is fab.

Se siete amanti del whisky andateci, se non siete conoscitori del whisky ma siete curiosi, come me, ANDATECI! Colin è super alla mano, è appassionatissimo di uno dei prodotti più famosi della Scozia (e dei Rangers) e ti fa sentire veramente a casa. In più, cosa da non sottovalutare quando sei in Scozia (e, specialmente, quando parli con una persona di Glasgow) riesce ad alleggerire molto il suo accento e quindi diventa super comprensibile anche ai meno ferrati nell'inglese. La selezione di bottiglie è infinita, noi abbiamo fatto 4 assaggi (che comunque si sono decisamente fatti sentire alla fine) per un totale di 20£ ed erano tutti notevoli e molto diversi tra loro. Ci ha spiegato i differenti territori di provenienza dei 4 whisky, come degustarli e come apprezzarli appieno. Una volta finita la degustazione, siamo stati mezz'ora a parlare di calcio (eravamo ad Edimburgo per una partita) e, prima di andare via, Colin ci ha pure offerto un bicchierino di whisky dei Rangers. Un'esperienza da provare assolutamente, sia per gli appassionati che per i neofiti!

Went in with no experiences about whisky and had literally no idea what to order, came out with knowledge on how to taste whiskies ;) The owner of the bar was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, over 700 bottles of whiskies were available. He picked a few whiskies for us based on our taste preferences and it was delicious! We were very lucky to chance upon tipsy midgie! Go there for some serious / non serious whisky tasting!

Visiting Edinburgh from the States and couldn't believe my good fortune to have the Tipsy Midgie located a block away from my Air BNB. Colin's vast knowledge and eagerness to share it in a welcoming way were an early highlight of my trip. The whisky selection is second-to-none and this is a great place to try things you will never find anywhere else. I'm looking forward to a few more drams during the rest of my stay here!
