A bar staff member was young and drinking on the job. He appeared slightly drunk when pouring drinks, he couldn’t have been older than 20. His breath also was strong with the smell of alcohol when serving our drinks. Quite off putting as you can imagine. The atmosphere was nice in general but this member of staff and his attitude really ruined it for me. He was young and immature and we even seen him eating takeaway in front of us, very unprofessional. The building itself was lovely but sadly won’t be coming back due to this staff member.

Visited here twice over the Christmas period. First time barman simply ignored us for nearly 15 minutes. Eventually we got his attention. Service very slow. Very dour and not at all friendly. Obviously does not own the place and therefore has no interest in customers. Visited the following week reluctantly as we were in company and found the same barman, same attitude. However, this time he objected to the presence of a 16 year old in our company, who was with her parents and not drinking. We all left and went to the City Hotel round the corner where we had a great day and spent a fortune. Loss to Tinneys.

Lovely little pub with a good age range and a wonderful fire blazing on cold evenings, one of my favorite places to go :)

Tinney's is very much a local bar just off the Strand Road - if you are looking for decor and decorum go elsewhere - this is a loud and raucous and friendly bar. Bar prices are standard as is the singing. It's handy if you are staying in city centre hotels as it's a walk home. It's a spit and sawdust pub.

We went on a Tuesday night for the first time in ages. We got drinks and headed straight upstairs to the Irish trad session. About 12 musicians played together, on the tin whistle, bodhran, fiddle, mandolin, accordion etc. They played solidly for two hours or so, from 10-ish. Much more authentic than some other Irish trad nights in the city. They alternated between melancholy and joy, humour and serious. Every now and then someone listening woiuld contribute a song. A great night's craic, and not at all touristy.

Met a few friends for a birthday celebration and found this bar to be very friendly with excellent service from the bar staff. Worth a visit.

Every Tuesday night, a group of vagabond musicians gather for an impromptu jam session. Locals and visitors play, sing, and recite poetry. Lots of traditional Irish instruments. Very rewarding experience. Starts at 10 PM.

Had the misfortune to pop in to this bar today - to say the bar man was rude is an understatement. His attitude stank nearly as bad as the bar itself - our custom was his loss as we walked out having not paid for the drinks he had poured. My advice - there are cleaner, nicer bars with staff who have an understanding of customer service more deserving of your custom.

A friend of mine from Derry, told me about this place, He said it is a great Derry bar, and has been there for ages, but has changed a lot over the years. So, on his recommendation, I paid a visit. The place was packed, even at 3pm, but the Fleadh was starting tomorrow. Mostly men, but women were also present, and seemed very welcome. A kinda down to earth type of crowd, who probably work hard, and enjoy their few pints, my kinda place. The bookies is out the back door, so you could see a steady stream of customers heading out. Enjoyed it very much, will be back.

I went to a music session on a Tuesday night in the upstairs part of the pub -- mostly locals, with a few visitors sharing their talents as well. It was really cool to hear the songs that these people knew (some were hilarious), and the fiddling was great. We were there watching someone we'd met; it might be weird to go just as a spectator if you didn't know anyone who was playing, but it's definitely worth a shot, especially if you don't mind singing or playing something yourself. Cool sort of atypical experience!
