We did the meal deal through the hotel. Deal is good value as you effectively get 2 courses & a drink for £16. Food was basic but good, service was good and staff friendly and welcoming.

Would definitely avoid…ordered the burger, absolutely dripping with fat. The waiter asked how my food was, and I told him it was dripping with grease, his reply was “ sometimes you need it!” All I could hear was the staff loadly chatting throughout the meal. Tables left uncleared in a nearly empty restaurant

Poorly managed , impersonal and lacking motivation wait staff, open plan "kitchen meant that we could see our food waiting for us - there was just us and a family and 2 waitresses ..... Poor quality meals - almost inedible gammon with inevitable chips, and how often have you had a grilled half grapefruit served with fish and chips ? I was only 18.00 but the staff seemed to be counting the minutes down to the end of their shift. Poor dessert selection, limited drinks with no low alcohol or alcohol free beers available, but conversely lots of sugary carbonated drinks to be had. It was just so poor, and inhospitable.

Fantastic breakfast with lovely helpful staff. In the current covid climate everything was organised perfectly making you feel completely safe. Well done.

We booked a last minute break away to Castell Howell, staying in one of the cottages on site. We took 3 children and two dogs with us and had a wonderful stay. The cottage is equipped with the essentials and was kept warm and clean. The beds were comfortable and made with bedding and towels provided. The owners were very welcoming and beyond helpful during our stay. Went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. We were greeted on arrival with a welcome basket with coffee, tea, milk, a small bottle of wine, a bottle of cider and drinks for the children- which was a very lovely gesture. The views surrounding the property are stunning and there were plenty of places to walk the dogs locally, but was also only a 20-30 minute drive to dog friendly beaches in Ceredigan and New Quay. There are lots of other local attractions which the owners are more than happy to advise on things you can do locally and the best places to go. The property is very out of the way, so phone signal was an issue, however, there is wifi in the communal areas- bar and pool. We swam in the on site pool every day and visited the bar as well. It was very quiet so we had the pool to ourselves and had excellent service in the bar. The pool was warm and had changing rooms with showers and toilets as well. The facilities could definitely do with a bit of a clean and updating but this doesn't take away from the overall experience we had. The kids had a blast and we welcomed the break from our phones and work. In fact none of us wanted to leave! We will definitely be returning, thank you Castell Howell!

My husband and I visited Aberystwyth to watch our son play football. We had very little time to find anywhere to eat and were happy to find this place with a great outside dining area. We informed the staff that we were kind of in a rush and they took our order immediately. The food came out fairly quickly and so we managed to make the game on time. The staff are extremely friendly and pleasant. Food was great, would definitely recommend. Pity we couldn’t stay for the free desert which was on offer for that day. Maybe next time!

Lunch Y Sgwar Located outside Nathan Davies’ SY23 restaurant, a casual, outdoor venue. Essentially, Y Sgwâr is an umbrella-covered, glass-sided terrace dotted with wicker armchairs and high bar stools, plus a smoking BBQ at one end – from which ultra-simple small plates emerge when ready. As we're eating later, we chose just a few dishes to keep us going. We could have devoured the whole menu, and the choice was tough. Prawns - Nam Jim £12 Chicken- Lemon- Sesame £12 New Potatoes - Garlic Aioli- Lemon £4 Who'd have thought potatoes could be this delicious. Service is chilled but attentive. Aberystwyth is a breezy spot at the best of times, but the glass partitions, brollies, and heaters really keep the wind out.
