Thrums Hotel in Angus

Best bar staff and friendliest pub in Kirrie...and very clean....I went in on my own, not something I'm comfortable doing, but the bar staff made me feel very welcome and included.

Stayed here for two nights, The staff were lovely, really helpful , the bar food was excellent, huge portions and well cooked. There ends the good stuff ….. Breakfast was served by a lovely lady, who seemed to be doing everything. Service was good and she was pleasant, but the hot food was mediocre. Totally unimaginative cereal, processed juice, and what tasted of cheap ingredients in the cooked breakfast. Our room (4) had little or no wifi signal, and the double glazing was no match for the traffic passing by 6 feet from the building. The thumping of the juke box in the bar directly below us was turned down after we mentioned it. I hope the owner values his staff, they are truly customer service orientated , but he needs to address issues in this tired hotel.

Visited with my wife and 1 year old for a bite of lunch. The wee man was well attended to and the waitress was really friendly and helpful towards him. Food was proper home cooked pub fayre, I had steak pie and my wife the chicken burger. Both were good sized portions and reasonably priced. Cooked some fish fingers for the wee man and didn't even charge for them - a really nice gesture. Atmosphere welcoming and was nice and clean inside. Would recommend if you are in the area.

Visited last week and we had a lovely lunch nice and hot and very tasty homemade food ... BUT why the exact same meals and drinks as couple weeks ago was £6 more expensive? And it wasn’t the eat out help out deal as it wasn’t on the said days . I didn’t question it but will not return as I find a £6 on 2 meals is a massive price increase .

We popped in on a very wet day and were comforted by some seriously yummy food. The fish and chips were excellent. Great choice, friendly atmosphere and macaroni cheese as an addition to a burger is pure genius!

Had to walk into public bar to check in couldn't hear for the noise, room lovely but their was a kettle but no cups I know all about the covid but they could have disposable ones, breakfast left outside door in morning which I can understand but once again no hot drinks very poor breakfast cereal and small roll very poor for £85

Ive not stayed at the Hotel, but Ive had food and visited the Bar to see Bands a Bonfest. Its a nice restaurant with nice Bar staff that are friendly and polite, serving good food quickly.

Very noisy, hard to hear what we were saying to each other. Food disappointing, breaded haddock very dry, and tinned peas don't add much to a meal. Waitress friendly. Prices not cheap for unexciting food quality

Noisy road traffic, scruffy, poor value, perhaps there is a quiet room at the back but the most expensive room was beside main road. also noisy yobs in town, but traffic in single glazed room is noisy.

Came as two friends for lunch as we've never been before Service was efficient and friendly, didn't have long to wait for it either. Freshly cooked and delicious. Reasonable prices too

Called here for lunch with our border collie. Lovely welcome, food excellent and a bowl of water for the dog.

Passing through Kirriemuir and stopped at Thrums for lunch. Restaurant fully wheelchair accessible and our dog was more than welcome.

My wife and I both had the pork and chorizo lasagne off the specials board. It was absolutely fantastic. I washed it down with a lovely pint of McEwans 80’. We both left with satisfied belly’s.

Malgré le cadre très agréable et le personnel adorable, la cuisine elle n'est pas fameuse. Des légumes surgelés, des salades servies sans vinaigrette, des cuissons de viande mal maîtrisées... Dommage!

Me and my partner has stayed the night in this accomodation and couldnt fault it at all. Not only was our room so beautiful we also got little soaps and shampoo. Plus our own kettle with coffee tea and milk. Would really recommend this hotel

Seeking a reliable Sunday Lunch excursion with elderly visitors, we chose to journey over to Kirriemuir, where we had lunched on many a previous occasion. We were not disappointed,as we all feasted on Lamb Shank which fell off the bone. Mine host is just that,and the local bar users are friendly in the relaxed atmosphere.I am at a loss (unless they are competitors,or their friends) to explain the few negative reviews I have seen !If you don,t give it a try its your loss.

Enjoyed an evening meal here recently. The welcome into the Thrums was warm and the staff were friendly. The Soup was hot & tasty, the Fish was fresh and served with Crisp Chips, Veg and Tartare Sauce. Quite a good menu and Reasonably priced too. The surroundings are nicely decorated, clean and comfortable - Well worth a visit.

Nice welcoming pub-nicest in kirriemuir. Food looks like decent pub grub although didn't sample any. Definitely somewhere to stop for a pint after a walk

There really isn't much to add to this heading. The food is average, the service is average and the price is average: generally unexciting overall.

Nice friendly bar great on weekend evening just a great bar for a pint in the evening I noticed that they have a lunch menu but did not eat because I was there at night seem to be the place the local use

We happened on the Thrums when everywhere in Kirrie was closed for the holidays. The owner was very friendly and our kids loved the macaroni cheese and the space to roam.

Este bar siempre está lleno, pero habiendo dicho que estaba allí para el anuncio de la estatua de Bon Scott, así que estaba lleno de die hard AC/VENTILADORES DC. El ambiente era genial y tenía música en vivo tocando todo el fin de semana. No comí allí, así que no puedo comentar sobre la comida, pero una bebida es un precio decente. La gente de la gente son las mejores Kirrie también.

We dropped in here on our hike from the car park to Barrie's birthplace. Food was good selection and served promptly and cheerfully. Good clean surroundings.

Looked up TripAdvisor to find a good place to eat on a visit to Kirriemuir and came up with Thrums Hotel :-)We were not disappointed. They serve up a really great plate of food. Chicken and steak pie dishes a must have. The hot chocolate cake and custard the best I have tasted. :-)Good prices too. We will be back, to work our way through this tasty menu :-)

Enjoyed a really tasty bar supper in this hotel, the surroundings are nice and cosy and the steak was fantastic, one of the best I've had. Good sized portions too! Staff were friendly and helpful and service was prompt. Overall good atmosphere.

We ended in Thrums by accident.. but how lucky. One emergency half pint (because the public loos were locked). We ended up staying 2 nights and left feeling like we were leaving family. and if the trout with sweet potato and horseradish is on the menu.. go for it.

We were hardly out of here during our recent stay. Great atmosphere with helpful staff. Plus the locals are very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Arrived in Tim ego get a meal before the bands started and had an excellent haddock and chips at a reasonable price. Service was friendly and with the hotel bouncimg to the sounds of rock and roll, copious amounts of booze were being consumed by the assembled mass of AC/DC fans. Busiest bar I've seen for some time and to be fair the staff were quick and friendly. Bar prices were reasonable also.

A nice pub, with lots of great people. The food is good and the waiters are very helpful.We came back several times during the weekend

We just required an evening meal as we were in B&B accommodation in area. A few choices & did not want to travel far. Mixed reports of the Thrums but it was really good home made food. It's a bar ok, so nothing fancy seating wise, bit of noise & gets louder later probably so go early. We both had an pork & chirrizio lasagne with salad & chips followed by probably one of the best sticky puddings - certainly in my top 5 no problem ! Reasonably priced too.

Been here a few times, and food always very good. The pub also has friendly staff and great atmosphere.

My partner and I have been travelling across to Kirriemuir for some years for a Sunday (or other day) lunch,and it has always been worth the trip.So much so I thought I should take the trouble to share our contentment with it.It has never let us down for "home cooked food" and the chips are great. Friendly staff and a quick kitchen.

We visited here to celebrate our engagement as we were staying close by. Food was fantastic and portions were huge! Staff were very friendly and approachable. Atmosphere in the place was great. Will be back!

Bathroom was fantastic, except for the fact that there wasn't much shower pressure. Tall, red headed guy at the desk was super friendly and accommodating. The beds and pillows are badly needing replaced. As a result I didn't sleep much here so probably wouldn't stay again.

Stayed here for 2 nights as my sister was getting married in the local area. Would have no hesitation staying here again. Great atmosphere in the bar, food was lovely and a great nights sleep. Will be recommending this hotel to others!

We got a bit lost in the area and asked a local for somewhere to eat, he told us to try Thrums Hotel and Bar. We had passed this as thought it was just a pub/bar food. We took his advice and glad as we had a lovely meal in a nice atmosphere. We could have sat in the restaurant part, but we would have been the only ones there at that time in the evening, so we choose to have our meal in the bar, where the locals where, it was not too busy. Plenty or tables. We both choose the Chicken breast stuffed with black pudding and covered in peppercorn sauce, I had chips and my husband had potatoes. The meal was quick to our table, the food was hot and fresh, and tasted absolutely amazing. Totally enjoyed the food. Each meal was only £9.85. The service and food was great. Drink prices a bit more than we are used to. Its only 25ml measures, so I had a double rum with a can of diet coke, husband had a pint of Ale and this was £9.80. But not to deter us, I would definitely eat here again and further recommend this place to anybody else. There was a good menu with specials on the board.

We visit the Thrums every year during our annual trip to the Kirriemuir area. The food is always of excellent quality and good value. The menu is varied and the choice of beers outstanding. The hotel (obviously) is residential but we have never taken advantage of the fact.

We have been to the Thrums hotel for food many times when staying with family in Kirriemuir. On this occasion we went for the High Tea as advertised on their website only to find you have to book in advance. Decided to stay and eat as on previous visits we have had good meals. The fresh water haddock advertised was frozen and grey and the Xmas turkey dinner was awful, with mushy microwaved turkey, hard sprouts and the meal was just heated up leftovers. We complained to the waiter who said he was only in charge of the bar. No-one came to apologise or see to our complaint. On discussing with my family who live in the area they said the food had gone down hill and was mostly microwaved food. Very disappointed as this used to be a great place to eat. Will not be returning.

We had 2 meals at Thrums during a week's holiday in Scotland and some friends stayed there for the week. We were all totally satisfied with our experiences.The food in the restaurant was varied and of high quality; the nightly specials board changed and the staff were warm, welcoming & helpfulWe shall definitely return

Had an amazing meal here tonight. Asked the providence of the ham on the menu and was assured it was free of preservatives etc. Was very impressed with the quality of both food and service... I'm not easy to please. Great service, ambiance, food, etc. Highly recommended.

Thrums is best bar. And best staff when i go by my self the staff are soo friendly.they will treat like they knows you, the drinks excellent if you go to Kirriemuire don't forget to visit thrums hotel and bar.

Wir wollten abends in Kirrimuir essen gehen und hatten leider nicht so viel Auswahl - alles, was wir fanden, waren ein indisches Lokal und das Thrums. Indisch ist zwar sehr lecker, aber wenn ich im Urlaub bin, versuche ich im Allgemeinen, die lokale Küche durchzuprobieren. Also gingen wir ins Thrums. Und da saßen wir. Außer uns höchstens noch fünf andere Gäste, das Lokal war also praktisch leer. Die Bedienung kam mehrmals zu den anderen Tischen, wir wurden aber nicht im mindesten beachtet. Weder wurde uns eine Speisekarte gebracht, noch etwas zu trinken. Nach ca. einer Virtelstunde standen wir auf und gingen dann doch indisch essen (es war dort übrigens sehr lecker, wenn auch nicht schottisch). Wenn das Lokal brechend voll ist, habe ich durchaus Verständnis für längere Wartezeiten, aber in einem leeren Lokal die Gäste einfach ignorieren - das geht nicht.

Been there a few times now and never disappointed. The food in pub style with a little bit extra. I have always had one of the specials and they are always great. Portions are generous an all the food is fresh. Kids love the baked potatoes. Staff are always friendly and I recommend it if you are in the area

I visit here occasionally with a young man with autism and he just loves it!!The staff are so friendly and understanding. The food is great we usually have the same thing each time we go but that's because it is SO good!! Its a lovely little pub!! If ever in Kirriemuir this is the place to stop by for Lunch/tea!!
