This is a lovely pub with nice decor & super staff. 6 of us met up for a meal , unfortunately we had to leave after 1 drink as they refused to accept cash, this is totally unacceptable to all of us , so we can’t report on the food but it looks fine as locals we will not be going back.

First visit here for a long time, with a former colleague. First thumbs up, Harvey’s. Kept remarkably well for a London pub. Food was also great - two small plates rather than one large one, beef tartare and mackerel. First rate.

Forget the Thai restaurant on the first floor and tune in to the excellent French restaurant above. Lovely air dried ham, super Brill and Halibut, very tasty desserts and good wines by the glass. Excellent service. Reasonable value. Try not to sit near the entrance as a cold wind can blow up the stairs from the street entrance. A great addition to the Farringdon scene.

Just when you thought this was an ordinary boozer to watch the football what a surprise.!!! A very helpful young chap behind the bar made you feel v welcome in a manically busy pub, no frowns here, and with an excellent choice of ales, ciders and lagers that was good enough until the food turned up. Wow the mackerel on toast was amazing as was the ham. Really great pub!

Stopped by to meet a friend and decided to have a bite to eat, which was a great decision! I had the hickory burger, which had a large, very high quality patty. The chips were great and even the side salad garnish was good. The other half had a pizza , which was thin crust and with an excellent taste. The drinks were very reasonably priced for central London, for example, £12 for a bottle of house wine - thats cheaper than all of my locals outside of London! The bar has a large area, so suitable for meeting up with friends. I didn't visit the restaurant upstairs, but im sure it will be of the same high quality as the bar menu, so I will definitely visit it at a later date. Oh - and the bar staff are great - very pleasant and attentive. Thanks for a lovely afternoon!

The Three Compasses was on our way home so we stopped off for a quick pint. Local beers and ciders were on tap, and so was a hot mulled wine - which was delicious given how cold we were. Great for just that, a quick pint.

Used to come here all the time but just have changed hands. Food average and as if this is even possible in this day and age there was a mouse running across the floor on the carpet in the middle of the restaurant. When I complained and said I wasn’t paying for the food the answer was yes we see the mice pest control come monthly!! Such a shame used to be a fantastic place :(

This Thai restaurant hidden away above the Three Compasses I have visited a couple of times and it is always quiet (few customers and no muzak) which is great as: It is easy to get served It is easy to hear each other And it is extremely good value for money If you like your food spicy then you will need to ask for the chilli. I get the impression that it is busy at lunch times with local workers but of an evening - relaxing joy

No me impresionó.

Perfecto ejemplo de boozer en Londres, que es probablemente el zumbido cuando está lleno, sino verlo casi vacío en la tarde del viernes muestra cuán importantes son las personas en la creación de ambiente en la mayoría de los pubs de la ciudad. The food was delicious but wouldn't go back again due to the disgusting level of service we received. There's a chav that works there (barman's daughter?) and she has a serious attitude problem (explains why she can't get a job anywhere else.) She literally slammed our plates down and made loud threatening comments to us, when we had not even spoken to her. I commented on this to the bar staff and they just laughed it off like it was ok. I hope chavvy waitress girl finds peace within herself so she can learn to be a better person. Although I completely understand as I too would have an attitude problem if my only future was be living on a council estate with 18 children, all by different fathers. Good luck to her! :)

I've been slowly working my way through the current menu (Stephen Fries Burger Merchant) at Three Compasses and each of the burgers has been fantastic. My only criticism, shared by a few friends too, is that the beef patties (Stephen's Piggy) are slightly over salty and that's coming from someone who has an unhealthy addiction to quality salt. The organic beef is sourced from Wales and is a really good eat. It's great to have a real choice of fries, but it would be nice to have a couple of other sides on offer to accompany them. The staff are always friendly and up for chat and have a solid offering of beers on the go.

The pub looked warm and inviting from the outside so my friends and I thought we'd try a few pints, however, after I paid for our drinks I noticed that I'd been short changed. I spoke to the female who I'd been served by, she went to the till, took the remainder of my change out and then walked back towards me and threw my change at me which I found very bizarre. I asked what the problem was and she said that I'd been rude. I only asked for my change ! A nice Thai lady then intervened and apologised. Won't be going back which is a shame because the food looked and smelt lovely.

I found this by chance walking along Cowcross Street. The pub looked inviting and when I went in and saw the menu I had to eat there. The pub is by Farringdon station so is busy in the evening and has a good selection of beers including a Compasses brew which is a perfect thirst quencher and I am looking forward to meeting up with friends for a couple or three at some stage soon. So far I have had two meals in the restaurant, one solo, one with family and one takeaway with my wife. All were excellent and very fresh which is not always my experience of Thai cooking in London and there is a range of spicy heat so all tastes are catered for. I can recommend the Mussaman, which I have had twice, and the Thai red curry, and my wife was very impressed with the green curry. Service was friendly and efficient in the restaurant, which is on the first floor and has a glassed veranda so is very light and airy.I'm looking forward to my next visit, either to eat or to have a few drinks after work. Whichever it is, it won't be long before I return.

Getting here is straightforward, turn left for 20 metre from Farringdon station (Tube Hall) or Right (the New rail Hall). Three Compasses is neatly located above the Pub, the staircase entrance to the leftYour greet with a spacious single-plan room with no thrills seating, made bright & hairy with the popular glass conservatory complete with plants. Arrive early or book for the view......the feel of a thai made cuisine from thai people with the presentation and the dishes in general themselves It’s unfortunate then the flavour of the Curries seemed to be related to the pricing, somewhat discounted, and the vegetables appear to be reheated. Unusual tasting chicken along with inexpensive pricing guarantees coverage’, a shame there was so little aroma of the lemongrass, ginger or galangal, that would have made the experience worthwhile

I used to go there once a month in 2003, 2004 and 2005, then moved so stopped going. I missed it because it was trully good and always a pleasant and relaxing experience. I went back at the beginning of 2010 as in the area, and was warned by a friend that it had changed a lot since the good days. Indeed. The taste was OK, nothing amazing but not bad either. It was OK. But my God, they rush to get your plate out and You out ASAP, and it is so small and busy that it made me stress out a bit. So loud in there. The quality of the food used to be like 4.5 out of 5, but with the higher popularity and the rush, it is less perfect, now about a 3.5 out of 5. Have not returned since.

This morning I bought a loaf of white sourdough bread. Came back home for lunch to discover that the loaf is at least 3 days old.(Sourdough has a shelf life of 5 to 7 days). Came back to the shop after one hour to bring them back the old loaf and they insisted (rudely) that was freshly baked this morning. After 5 minute of discussion trying to explain that the bread is clearly old (the crust is softer than the inside!) the lady that served my said (but, at least, is the taste good?), ?!?!? I didn't came back to ask my money back (which considering the price of the loaf 6£ would have been good!) but after waiting the line in the cold to buy a 6£ loaf, go home and find out that is not fresh, go back to complain in the cold, the least you can expect is a bit of understanding! RUDE STAFF, PRODUCT NOT FRESH, you can find better fresh bread anywhere else, avoid!

Ridiculously bad. I have lived nearby for a while and was very much looking forward to going and did just that tonight... Oh my. Pretentious environment for pretentious, badly cooked, overpriced food. Who can't cook potatoes, FFS. 12 quid for 3 slices of tomato in yoghurt, FFS. Go to one of the Turkish places on Green Lanes instead. Half the price, twice the humanity, and actually tastes good. P.s. the wine was awful too.
