Visited with some vegan friends having read good reviews and been recommended to try. It was a bit disappointing to find no cakes available that were vegan, they didn't have any nachos for the nacho dishes on the menu and ran out of plant milk. I had a weak cappuccino, and vegetarian chilli and rice which was tasty. The staff were really friendly but rather half hearted we felt about putting any effort into making food for folk who don't want to eat animal products. The veggie food was nice but not enough to warrant a trip to go and eat there when lots of other places do similar veggie dishes. Underwhelmed. I think it's perfectly possible to make tasty food and cakes that can be enjoyed by everyone. They don't need to overtly labelled as vegan if cafes are worried about putting people off in case they don't taste of much! It just takes a wee bit of imagination really.

Oh, the joy of walking into a cafe and not having to totally explain about being gluten-free! We came here for lunch on our way home from a lovely weekend break to the Borders. My husband (who is non-GF) thoroughly enjoyed his lunch here,as did I. He had soup and I had the macaroni cheese,we then had cakes to take-away. Lovely service.great menu and whenever we are in the Borders again,a stop here will be a definite. The lady who served us has a great knowledge and you can ask her anything. Thoroughly recommend this cafe to Coeliacs and Non-Coeliacs alike. They also do some dairy-free items as well.

We've been to this establishment a few times now over the last year. It's always a very enjoyable, friendly experience. Lots to love whether your celiac or not. A great selection of gluten free food, or if you're like me, can enjoy a wheaten roll! On this visit I had a lovely bacon roll, my wife having a gf cherry scone. Both washed down with nice lattes. Can highly recommend and they even operate a rewards programme. One of the best gf cafes I know of in the Borders

Estará dispuesto a regresar o recomendar

Stopped in earlston by accident and discovered Thomas and Ethel. We were the first customers in that morning and the staff were so welcoming. We came away with so many tips on where to visit. Only tried the coffee and blueberry scones and would definitely eat there again

Allergen free/aware tearoom but not at all preachy - if you want a bacon roll on regular and not glutenfree then that's not a problem. Just make wonderful food for people who have intolerances plus great food for everyone. Very friendly people.

Had heard about this little cafe/restaurant and went for lunch a couple of weeks ago with a friend. We were not disappointed. I am vegetarian and have to avoid wheat, while she can eat just about anything and I was a wee bit worried she might find it restrictive. No need to worry at all. Wide variety of light lunch options available, a number of which were vegetarian, and all of them gluten free. Only disappointment was that someone had been in during the morning and bought all the quiche, but food was freshly prepared, tasty and very nicely presented. There was also a wide variety of home made cakes and traybakes and it was great to have a real choice, rather than the single gluten free option that is often the case - usually a mass produced brownie or macaroon. Coffee was as good as I've had anywhere and when the bill arrived it was very modest.

Popped in for light lunch and decided on the field mushroom filled with haggis smoked cheese together with crispy potatoe and fresh mixed and dressed salad which was off the starter menu. All I can say is what a stunning clever dish. Wonderful and priced well. Thank you.

Didn't eat here. Just had a quick rest and a conforting cuppa tea. But the owner was super friendly and I think kindness deserves an award nowadays, so, On this notice a very positive review from me.

Perfectly fine. Fish and chips a bit greasy for what i like but probably best you’ll get in town if wanting proper chippy chips. Atmosphere quite nice as seemed to be lots if regulars who knew the staff so felt friendly but hit less chatty with “outsiders”. Nice enough experience would use again - pizzas smelt and looked really Good and garlic mayonnaise sauce was nice.
