Booked for an early evening roast as we were staying with family in a neighbouring village. We all had roast dinner. Myself being vegetarian opted for the nut roast. Absolutely delicious. Meats well cooked and plentiful. Food well presented and hot. Crumble and salted caramel cheese cake for desserts. Again delicious. I would most definitely recommend this pub as a place to dine and catch up with family and friends. We will be returning.

We came off route, two moors way and stoped for Sunday roast at Thelbridge Cross. The lady owner as we walked in very cheerful and friendly with bit of banter. We ordered the Sunday roast and it was plentiful and nice with two young pleasant lads serving. We enjoyed the food beer and atmosphere as well as the nice lights by the bar.

We live locally and had wanted to support this pub and it’s new owners. We have had a few meals here- none of which were amazing but we were prepared to wait it out in the hope it would improve. This is a somewhat ‘typical’ poor quality English pub. It has the obligatory large screen TV both in the bar and, remarkably, in the restaurant! Bizarre. There is no atmosphere in the restaurant and on the evenings we have been, you find yourself trying not to listen to the conversations of nearby tables as it is so silent. We have also had to put up with the swearing of customers at other tables. Easily heard thanks to the lack of ambient music. Food is not of a high standard. Overpriced and often overcooked. Portions of meat can be small. Gluten free menu looks ok but when you order you discover that chips and battered food are cooked in the same fryer as gluten containing food. No mention on the menu. Management appear intolerant and bad tempered when dealing with genuine customer complaints. Lots of dishes not available or not complete. We heard a customer being told just before their starters that there was no naan bread for the one of them who had ordered curry (!) Long wait for our food to arrive (at least 45 minutes). Great view from the car park though. This should be where the garden is. What a waste making this the car park. If this were the garden, people would come for miles to just sit and enjoy the view with many drinks and snacks. Blimey, I’d even go back for that! The car park should be half the size- it isn’t needed. Exterior areas are shabby. Car park is a disgrace- looks like a dumping ground in places. Garden furniture is typical picnic style tables, some in need of replacement. Plastic flowers on restaurant tables and on walls outside. It just lacks style and class. You are paying a lot for a meal but the portion sizes are cheap. Just like everything else! Typical lacklustre pub with no passion, lacking direction. Shan’t be going back and I shall spread the word as I’m a local.

The wonderful staff are so accommodating, we took an elderly relative who is in a wheelchair and the staff were so helpful with accessibility. The Sunday lunch was fab, we really liked the homecooked extras, the chef has really thought to add the extra touches that make the experience feel real, from the homemade vegetable crisps to the presentation and homemade apple sauce, simply delicious. We really enjoyed Sunday Lunch, it's one of the best we have had out 10/10. Very affordable too Loads of car parking, and lovely country views.

I love it when we find a good motorhome stopover. Friendly helpful people and a lovely peaceful night's sleep. Good beer and a nice eveing meal. Lovely huge piece of fish in very nice batter but (and I know it's personal taste) but would have preferred proper mushy peas rather than a pea puree and would have liked proper chips but I realise that the chef was trying something different. We had lunch which was good. Big car park. We felt it was a little overpriced. There's a pub down the road, which is equally good with lunch time food around 30% cheaper. Also, nearly £4 for a pint of coke seemed a lot. That said, staff were friendly and the owners are clearly working very hard to make the pub succeed. It's a very nice place and definitively worth a visit.

Please ignore the past reviews of the Thelbridge inn as it is under new management now and the new owners mark and louise are doing a fantastic job of the refurbishment and running of the hostlery, they also offer great on suite rooms at very reasonable prices. When the wife and i went to the Thelbridge inn for a spot of lunch this sunday, and we both were welcomed when we arrived and shown to our table by a very pleasant welcoming gentleman named Alex (although i think judge rinder would be more appropriate, very uncanny resemblance) ordered our drinks which were a cider by the name of Bad Apple which was very nice, we ordered our food which we both chose the lamb rump burger which came with big and chunky fries a delicious coleslaw and relish and all for a great price, we both really enjoyed our meal and our dessert also .we found the Thelbridge inn a very welcoming pleasant friendly hostelry and we both agreed to return again very soon. wishing you Mark and Louise all the best and continuing success for the future.

The staff are friendly and the food is freshly cooked to order. My salad was really tasty, and my husband enjoyed his burger. Only a limited menu right now, but at least the community has somewhere pleasant to go for a drink and decent food. A few teething problems, but that’s to be expected when new owners have only just opened. We will definitely be back. We left The Thelbridge with very full, happy tummies!

The service felt slow but the staff were friendly, the food was a little slow but it was also, well, alright. It just feels that it could be so much more. What's required, maybe, is a strong front of house to manage operations, entertain customers and marshal the staff to be on their toes

Visted the Thelbridge many times in the last few years and watched it deteriorate. Asked for the menu but were told that they only have the blackboard menu on a Sunday, never known of this before as we have been on a Sunday before and been given it. So we ordered of the blackboard and thought no more about it, until a couple arrived 10 mins later and were instantly asked if they would like to see the starter menu that the barman /waiter already had in his hand to give them, ok so perhaps he didn't like the look of us so wanted to get us out quickly, but whatever it was he obviously didn't want us to have starters. Ok so I had beef lasagne but bit of a shock when it was lamb instead of beef yuk nice in a shepherds pie but a lasagne mmm. That will be our last visit ! We arrived to an empty car park except for a couple of staff cars. We have known this place for years, but what a disappointment. No body in the bar, we called out and eventually a chap dressed as a chef came out and said he would get the waitress. She eventually arrived and took the drinks order and our lunch order. The specials board quoted Exmoor ale battered fish, sounded ok so my husband had that. My choice was Scampi and chips. Well upon arrival after 35 minutes we looked at it and thought Battered fish with Exmoor Ale batter it was not. It was a greasy piece of frozen fish of some sort. Nothing like proper fresh fish freshly cooked, it was dry and tasteless! Anyway we sat alone in a depressing bar which was in desperate need of painting with nails in the walls where previous pictures hung. The carpet was really in need of replacement. No one else arrived at all. We went to look at the restaurant and once again we were appalled at the fact no tables were laid up and the fire exit had stacks of chairs blocking the access. Not good! We went to pay the bill and guess what....No change in the till! This place is supposed to be open all day for food...Well it certainly doesn't appear to be organised! New owners are going to step up very soon or they will be like lots of places and close! God forbid..This place used to be great but no more.

Arrived at 1p.m. - time booked for two in the restaurant. Nobody serving and no bar staff so waited and a waitress appeared and no 'meet and greet' from her but we lassoed her in passing and got a table. About 15 minutes later we got our order taken and the food took too long to arrive but it was good. Apart from us there were about 6 other customers but nobody at the bar. We thought we would go wild (my birthday) and have two Irish coffees. The first pair did not have whiskey (it might have been whisky) so she took them back and another delay. The next pair did not have sugar and I could barely taste spirit but my wife said hers had none. Once more there was nobody about and we thought 'lets drink up and get home'. Wanted to pay but nobody about - followed up by two customers to the bar who also wanted to pay. One got frustrated (we could hear they had had previous ordering problems) and he went through the bar and found somebody. She told me she had put one third of a teaspoon of sugar in - what a laugh - but not really at £4-99 a throw. She should have written the ingredients down when told. The pub changed hands some weeks ago and now there is a lack of interest from the staff which amounts to apathy. We were two hours there and it should have just been one. The owners should realise that word spreads quickly though our village and the surrounding area.

i had booked a two night break using a Red Letter Day voucher from our son for my husband's birthday. The web photo showed a pretty country inn offering a comfortable stay and good food. On arrival, the pretty inn had disappeared to reveal a sad, tired facade with builders working on it. On entering the car park, there was rubbish scattered around and the entrance door looked dirty and old. On entering, a musty smell of old carpet hits you. We rang a bell and after a wait, areceptionist checked us, after some diffuculty with printing the receipt. We were given a key to room three but no other information such as breakfast times etc On entering the room, where the door was sticking, a very small bedroom appeared which appeared to have an unmade bed and the shower floor was wet as if someone had just used it. It again smelt musty and damp. I took one look and left the room. No one was on the desk, where I left the keys with a note on one of the postcards. Very disappointing and ruined our short break - we went home instead. Needs a total refurbishment and should remain closed to guests staying until that is done.

Arriving just after 1pm, with 2 people eating and 2 having a drink in the bar, we rang the bell on the bar and my friend and I sat ourselves in the Dining Room. After 5 minutes we rang the bell again. Nobody appeared. The bell was rung once more for us by the man having a drink, giving it 3 'dings'. Five minutes later the waitress arrived. We commented that we had rung the bell 3 times. With no apology for keeping us waiting for nearly 15 minutes, she said she had been talking to the chef. We ordered drinks and a small lamb roast. The lamb, peas and gravy (the plate was swimming in gravy and perhaps it would have been better for most of the gravy to have been in a gravy boat to allow for individual tastes) arrived on a very hot plate, with the vegetables being brought a couple of minutes later. The roast potatoes were lovely, as was the swede. The broccoli and cauliflower was so hard we had difficulty in cutting them with a knife. They would have been better served as florets instead of in one piece. The carrots also were hard and the cabbage not quite cooked. The waitress offered to get something else but it was too late as we were well into the meal. Normally we would have eaten all the vegetables offered but half were left. In trying to cut the vegetables we spilt swede on the table which could have been wiped up by the waitress before she brought the dessert menu. A lovely pub in a lovely setting but the food on this occasion was a big disappointment.

We were staying in this pub so, as it's situated in the middle of nowhere, we decided to eat here. A full menu of meat, fish and veggy items plus a blackboard of specials made our final decision quite difficult, but sausages ( DELICIOUS!!!), mash and gravy for me and mackerel for Mrs T. made us both very happy people. Add to this a cool lager or two for me and wine spritzers for Mrs T. and we were in 7th heaven. This was a mid-journey break for us and we returned on our homeward leg, where we absolutely raved about our meals with me describing exactly how I liked my steak cooked, the waitress showing tons of patience, and to my delight the chef delivering what I believe is the nearest to a perfect piece of rib-eye that I've eaten in ages. main courses, puds, starters, drinks, coffees and service all spot-on. A few weeks later called again, this time with my other half, and again had a thoroughly pleasant lunch. On Wednesday 4 of us (2 couples) met there for lunch. I ordered what I thought was a pork loin, having missed the word steak on the menu. There seemed to be a misunderstanding as when my meal arrived the pork was essentially a pork chop, which I could not bring myself to eat. The waitress, the Chef and the Landlady came to see me, although I did feel it a little odd that the chef bought out a piece of uncooked meat in plastic to show me this was indeed a pork loin steak. Nevertheless it was not a tenderloin and I could not eat it. The rest of the meal was fine and I was not charged for my meal, which I thought was very generous of them. My family eat there quite often and have nothing but praise, I have to say, I will certainly make sure I read the menu with closer inspection next time. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere and because of the gesture I am likely to visit again. Thank you, I think we may have all learnt something, well hopefully.

Went for lunch on a Monday. Place relatively empty and had to ring the bell to get attention and then got told off for doing it twice... (you cannot hear it ring). Good service and beer. Food was also pretty reasonable as were the prices.Little down on atmosphere though. If in the area no reason not to go there.

We were staying down the road at a caravan site and decided to pop in for dinner one evening with two children.Very large place, big car park, nice bars and restaurant.Lots of tables already booked, obviously popular in the area.Friendly, efficient service. All food including childrens meals were well cooked and very tasty. Reasonably priced too.Comfy restaurant and nice toilets. If i was being picky i would improve their selection of draught lagers. Only serving budget Carlsberg (i believe, might of been Fosters). 99 out of a 100 places have a Premium lager on tap.Apart from that, very good and would visit again if in the area.

Pleasant staff serve a tantilising choice of menu, all perfectly cooked quality meats and vegetables. The desserts are to "die" for, especially when served with local clotted cream. We visited this pub on recommendation for Sunday lunch. Whilst the food was very good, the service was slow and disappointing, and seemed disorganised. A couple on the table next to us requested wine on two occasions to different waiters/waitresses, but without success. Not very impressed.

My grandparents had over 100 people to a 3 course meal for their golden wedding anniversary at the thelbridge inn with some background music. As the even progressed the food was lovely and as the bar shut everyone left with just a few packing away. The manager then decided to come out and ask those left to P**s off! And when the explained they were just packing away he jumped up and down in a sarcastic manor shouting yippee! This gentleman had been rude to other guest all night and ruined what would have been a lovely evening for an elderly couple! Even if the food is good i would advise nobody to visit them again and will be telling everyone of this. It was disgusting and if I had still been there I would of said something myself! Sadly other staff were lovely but until the owner is gone I will be never there again!!

This hotel is off the beaten track and one that you would only go to it you knew about it and went there deliberately. It is located at a junction of typical narrow Devon roads with high hedges. I got up early to take photos and could not believe how much traffic went along the road. Very quiet at night but amazingly for somewhere in the middle of nowhere, there is a lot of traffic from 7.30 am. Hotel was very comfortable. The food was excellent and the staff very very friendly. Highly recommended.

We decided to try this country Inn for a quick evening meal after a hard days work renovating our cottage a few miles away and we are so glad that we stopped en route to our camp site.We were welcomed by very friendly staff and a lovely country Inn ambience offering comfort and warmth and a good menu and a pleasant restaurant seating area. There was ample choice of dishes from the a la carte menu and the specials board. The food was served hot, fresh and presented beautifully with very ample portions, fresh vegetables and simply delicious food using locally sourced products. The bar is inviting and husband enjoyed the local ales and cider. This Inn is popular with the locals and is a traditional family run, rural country Inn offering accommodation, breakfast, lunch, cream teas and a la care restaurant. The Inn is situated in a beautiful part of Mid Devon with farming and countryside for miles and the Tarka trail joining points not far away at all.We enjoyed the Inn and visited many times and look forward to returning soon. There are many Inns to eat n around the area and this one is amongst the best of them.

Sleepily sprawled along a quiet road junction in the heart of the mid-Devon countryside, the Thelbridge Cross Inn is in many ways a delight. There is plenty of room, and service is friendly, relaxed and helpful. The interior is split into a number of sections, so that in one you can settle down for a quiet drink in a proper pub, but in another section you can enjoy a meal in a restaurant environment. We were here for Sunday lunch, and so we found our way into the restaurant section almost as soon as we arrived. Tables were furnished with wine glasses, fresh flowers and cloth napkins, which felt special. Bread rolls and butter delivered while we waited for our food added to the feeling that we were in a traditional country pub that had an attention to detail, and a willingness to welcome strangers. The pub decor is a little tired (horse brasses, dark wood tables, wood chip wall paper), but that just made the whole place seem comfortable to someone like me. Eccentric touches - like the coin collection stuck to the bar and the bank notes of the world displayed on roof beams - reassured that this was a pub that was evolving in an honest, good-humoured way, not one that was - or was about to be - the victim of a brash themed make-over. Unfortunately, we were less impressed with the food and the serving at table. It was fine - just not great, and probably some dishes on the menu are better than the ones we chose. I had lamb; my wife had beef (£9.50 each). Meat was served on its own on a plate, ready gravied. Vegetables (excellent) were served separately. The trouble with this strategy is it draws attention to the meat, which was ok, but very much of the school dinner slices type, and it did let down the vegetables. The service at table was lovely, but not very competent: no spoons to serve the vegetables, no saucers with the coffee cups. However, requests were quickly responded to, and I suspect that the waiter was very new to the job. And the coffee: not enough for two cups (£2.25 a person, but we were only charged for one on complaining), and not very good (but then we have all been spoiled recently by good Americanos).I agree with previous reviewers: traditional, hospitable, great find. I'd go again. I'd be more assertive about my requirements, and make different food choices.

The dining room was very busy for midweek so a popular place! We had a bar snack which was excellent value. The drinks prices were below average and the toilets are done out immaculately. They have a function room for weddings etc which looked lovely. Would definitely pass this way again.

The meals here are always a good standard. There are several dishes for vegetarians and my favourite is the tempura vegetables, why can't other pubs have more than one choice for vegetarians which is generally a mushroom risotto or vegetarian lasagne. My husbands favourite is the steak and kidney pie. The service is good, the pub facilities are clean and well kept what's not to like?

We recently booked a table for an evening meal at the Thelbridge Cross Inn. The only time we have been there before was for a midday meal and what we had on that occasion was a fairly unexceptional item from the bar menu which did nothing to make us want to rush back again. It was all the usual things you would expect to find –scampi and chips, curry etc. However we thought we would try an evening meal having been impressed by the evening menu on their website. We thought we would be eating in the bar but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves being ushered into a separate nicely decorated and comfortable formal dining room. Service was spot on – just the right mixture of friendliness, efficiency and professionalism. The food was exceptional – beautifully cooked, nicely presented and very hot (particularly the vegetables). Food temperature is something that many restaurants fall down on but not the Thelbridge. Good choice of items on the menu – all of restaurant quality.Access for wheelchair users is excellent - level access all the way from the car park. and an accessible disabled toilet. We enjoyed the meal immensely and liked the venue and the service so much we will be returning there on a regular basis. It is a little bit out in the country but the drive is worth it. It was fairly busy in the restaurant, which for a venue off the beaten track is a good sign.

This was the first pub we visited on our recent holiday in Devon and it was very nice with a real pub feel about it. The food here was very good with a very good choice and portions are very good. The duck was particularly well received by our party and my own fish and chips were just great. From the starters through mains and dessert were very good . There is a wide choice on offer so something for every taste will be available. We did enjoy our food and the very efficient waitress who served us was a really friendly and helpful lady so full marks to the pub. We would have returned there had we not found another pub that we enjoyed a little more. There was a wedding on when we got there which did spill into the bar which became a little crowded so it may pay to check if there are functions on when you book. This is a very nice pub and is well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

Decided to visit the Thelbridge with some friends for an evening out and a meal (local eatery closed - again!) It was very quite (which was to be expected on a non holiday Monday night) and we were well looked after. The Barman was attentive and put up with our complete inability to pick something from the menu (it all looked good). The food was really nice and not hurried. However, it was quite and only had 8 people dinning when we were there, so not sure what it would be like when very busy. The bar area has comfortable seating that is separate from the dinning area. Overall, a nice place to take visiting friends with and we shall certainly return.
