Eaten there on several occasions, Great Food, Beers Crisp, Thatchers is wet and Cold, Today I tried my first a takeaway lunch - Fish & Chips in a box with mushy peas - Boom, Who needs a local chippy when the Pub does a job just as good if not better. Dog friendly, Kids are welcome if kept in a lead - Jack the owner is a sounds fella and the Walled garden area has seating for plenty and the kids can’t escape

Quintessential English country pub. Lovely ambience. Reasonable food selection, but excellent quality. The pub had a selection of Butcombe beers on my visit. Parking is typically on a quiet lane adjacent to the pub. Dog friendly.

I visited this pub for lunch with my family on 28 November, 2023. The beautiful old yew tree in front of the pub sets the atmosphere for this stunning place. The ambience , decor (particularly the unusual wallpaper in the loos, which were spotless), caring and friendly service and superb food made this one of the best pub experiences I have ever had in the UK. The day we visited we enjoyed chatting with the delightful and talented new chef who cooked and presented a range of delicious dishes - I will never forget his seafood linguine. The garden with its quirky 'giant's' seat is also a delight.

Called in at lunchtime for the gluten free fish and chips. Delicious crispy batter and lovely thick cut chips. Great that I can take the dog in too. Will be back. Have just returned to the Yew Tree again, this time for an early Christmas lunch. I had slow braised beef and the rest of the party had turkey. Absolutely delicious and gluten free. GF Christmas pudding was also available although I went for the white chocolate and raspberry blondie. Lots of gluten free options; coeliacs just make sure you let the staff know when booking and ordering. The chef is a star at catering for gluten free. Thanks

Date of visit 6th October 23. A great village pub with a very warm welcome from the bar tender. Good range of drinks and a lovely menu with daily specials and deals on offer. We arrived an hour before evening food service but we were very happy to have a drink and relax in this nicely decorated space with plenty of character. However, the chef was there and having over heard us nattering, he came over and offered to open up the kitchen early. Such a kind and welcome gesture which went a long way to making us feel super special, inspiring me to write this review, not just about the great food which was well presented, fresh and great tasting but also about the wonderful customer service too.

When you go and stay in a rural village you are reliant on the local pub being friendly, serve good food & drink and an atmosphere to relax and enjoy. Thankfully, as we stayed next door, this is a place that does it all very well. An excellent and extensive menu that made it difficult to choose just one and customer service above and beyond. We went for steak pie & katsu curry if it helps you to narrow down your decision, my stomach is rumbling just thinking about it now.

Called in for lunch yesterday. We were the first and only customers eating but a salad, chicken goujons and halloumi fries took almost 40 mins to arrive. The goats cheese salad was lovely. My friend asked for some chicken goujons as an extra with the halloumi fries and we were charged £8 for them plus the £8 for the fries which is expensive. I was also charged £3.60 for a pint of lime soda and £4 for an orange juice and lemonade!!! How they justify it I don't know. The pub was also really cold. Sadly won't be going back.

Superb food and really friendly, attentive, staff. The Halloumi fries and chicken kebabs were a particular highlight. A great beer garden too! Our experience was only tainted slightly by some absolute cave dweller of a customer shouting his mouth off until he successfully ruined everyone’s day. Not the pubs’ fault though, some people are just born abhorrent.

Very welcoming pub. Dog friendly. Worth going for the nice food at reasonable prices. I’m surprised it wasn’t busier considering it was half term, but this pub is a bit off the beaten track. You have to go looking for it, and you will be glad you did. Nice garden area, although very slightly let down by the two noisy extractors from the kitchen. Sit away from those though and you’ll be fine.

We booked for six for a birthday celebration. We were asked to change to an earlier time (6:30 pm), but this was no problem. We had a quieter side area to ourselves. The menu was limited, but all of us were very happy with the food, which was very well cooked and delicious, and the service was attentive, with two cheerful and charming young men serving drinks and bringing the food contributing greatly to a good atmosphere and enhancing our enjoyment. We all left spontaneously singing the praises of the Yew Tree at the end of our time there.

At 1st glance the pub outside looked nice and posh and inside was cozy with a friendly atmosphere. My wife and I heard good reviews and wanted to check it out. We where told the fish and chips are the best as it was a reduced menu due to October fest. I ordered the burger, they didn't have any menus so we where told what was available at the time. When the food arrived the fish and chips came with battered fish and chips in a cup and the burger on a wooden board and chips in a metal cup also. We also asked for mayonnaise, ketchup and tartar sauce. My wife was not happy as the fish was very dry no taste to it and was mostly batter. My burger was ok the beef seemed to be falling apart and not put together as I would of liked it. The only good thing where the chunky chips and the drinks. Its a no for us but at least we tried and won't be returning.
