The Wineglass in Bedford

Food was really disappointing. Pork belly was bland, dry and unpleasant to eat. Another person on the table had to go to the toilet to spit it out as was inedible, was told that’s how it is. Had to pour water on the curry as it was so dry, asked for mango chutney 3 times before being told there isn’t any. Salmon on toast was underwhelming. Left feeling hungry. And then to top it off it’s fairly expensive. I certainly would never go again. The place itself is beautiful but I wouldn’t recommend if you want to have a good meal.

I like the bay but miss a bit of music in beer garden thanks god we brining our speaker. I did a podcast there. Nice and clean.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel, with drinks at the Jetty Bar which is really relaxed and laid back, then dinner in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning. The room was a good size, very quiet and comfortable, the service was excellent throughout and very friendly, so we were made to feel at home. One little issue but that was caused by me and the hotel sorted it straight away! Would definitely recommend, if you need to stay in or around Bedford.

Lovely venue, lovely team, fantastic setting, good food, good drinks. Whether an intimate occasion for a couple or a large event (such as a wedding) this is the place to book.

I decided to try the Sunday Lunch. Roast beef at £21. I was given a choice of how I wanted the beef cooked and it was tender. Vegetables were well cooked and tasty. However, the food could have been much hotter. Any colder and I would have sent it back. I think there could have been more quantity for the price. Just 2 roast spuds and only a small amount of gravy. The yorkshire pudding was vastly overcooked and dry to the point of inedible. In all I would agree with what the other reviewers have said. Also not happy about the service charge that was not mentioned anywhere on the menu or website. Overall just about scrapes 3 stars.

My mother in law paid for me and my husband as newly weds for our honeymoon and last night we had dinner near the river with a side show of rats running around and this morning we wasn't greated by any staff and had to sit ourselves down no menus just help yourself as all the Staff were to busy talking in the kitchen so my mother in law has put a complaint in and they have emailed her back calling us liars so I wouldn't recmoned coming here at all

What a place! Great setting right on the river. Really nice gardens out front with picnic benches. Food was really enjoyable. Enjoyed it and will be back.

This place doesn’t get enough credit . I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. By far the best fish and chips I’ve ever had ! The service was excellent, very attentive, friendly and speedy . Location is gorgeous too ! Will definitely be back very soon .

The location is good in relation to Bedford and the hotel, the oldest part of which dates back around 200 years, is well preserved. The superior room was clean and comfortable, perhaps the toilet could work better in the bathroom. As for the restaurant, good breakfast with menu choice, for dinner while recognizing the good will, too many ingredients used for the Italian taste which appreciates simplicity and service a little slow.

We had Sunday lunch which was delicious. The staff were very pleasant and courteous.

Have been for dinner a couple of times now, as its a beautiful pub/hotel by the river. We love to sit outside when the weather is nice. Food is tasty, with decent value for money. And the staff are always lovely.

I have stayed here many years ago and my stay was really good but recently I met family here for lunch. There was 20 of us, great selection of food on the menu, all meals were served up hot and tasted really nice, I personally recommend the sea bass which was served with coconut rice and Chinese vegetables, absolutely delicious! Would definitely eat here again when I’m in the area.

Good resturant and food and service is good. Food is super tasty. Price is a bit high but affordable with a discount voucher. Could be a regular resturant if prices are reduced.

Had lunch with four friends. Great food great service .Really enjoyable.

Went for an afternoon tea, location, venue and ambience was great, food was exquisite and very filling, good quality tea and coffee, however, the staff were miserable, no happy greeting, no checking, is the food OK? Then when the bill came, we had been charged for a coffee that was supposed to be included and despite there only being two of us, a £5.85 service charge added. I asked the waitress to amend the discrepancies and she stormed off in a huff! The table next to us noticed and said 'use my discount card, as I have been here 5 times this week for business meetings and the way she has just behaved...you deserve it. When the waitress arrived with our amended bill I explained that the lady next to us had offered us her discount, she snatched the card off me and yet again, stormed off in a huff. Customer service here needs to be seriously looked into. A smile goes a long way, general chit chat or even faking an interest in the customer, makes a difference. The staff were indifferent and then damn right rude!

Beautiful location, lovely interior, tasty food. Went there in the hope for afternoon tea but with 2 tables in a very large dining space been told nothing available and have to pre-book. We ordered their pizza instead which was tasty. Atmosphere a bit sad, Sunday afternoon very quiet, but even if it was busy it would have been nicer if they wouldn't have stuffed every single crevice with a table and chairs. Staff clueless, from ca 5 people we encountered only one seem to have been working longer there than an hour ago. (Kids menu? Don't know. How to get to the riverside terrace? Don't know, is there one?).

Food is always great and the staff is attentive all the time with a smile. I literally can not fault the place and we always go there for a date night. Staff and chefs are well trained. Will always go back.

The waiter wasn't too knowledgeable about beers or some of the food on the menu. My meal was quite pleasant, though my wife and our friends fish and sauce was very sparce. I was thinking of suggesting going to a burger bar afterwards.

Love going to this beautiful bar with my husband every time we get a chance, get our drinks and sit outside by the river, talking and enjoying the mind blowing gorgeous nature right there in front of us as we sip and talk, there are sometimes boats with happy people and their dogs going by, the tall greener than green trees swerving gently as in a magical dance never gets old for us, and it's just one of our favourite places in our neighbourhood to spend quality time together, with friends or just the two of us. Workers are polite, friendly and helpful, truly professionals who are keen on making you feel welcome anytime, there's never trouble and everyone, young and old enjoy this special place! I am not grading the food yet because I haven't eaten there yet, but from what I've seen people ordering, it smells and look good enough to eat again and again, so I will try their bar food soon and then I will give you my honest feedback, and as far as the refreshing cocktails we order all the time, they are amazing and well prepared and we love it!

First time we have been here, the food was delicious and the service was excellent.

All younger staff looked smart in there uniforms ,unfortunately let down by 2 scruffy gentlemen also serving the table's. And why is there a service charge??

We came on a small dinghy and stopped by the jetty. We ordered kingfisher burgers and some drinks. Food was very good, solid 4 star, also service. Was told that there will be quite a wait for our food to arrive, but it was on our table in about 5 minutes. Will visit again as the location is very attractive and food is good.

Popped in for a beer. Was so nice, stayed for a couple. Particularly liked the table service and the outside area overlooking the river is fantastic. The beer was good and the staff excellent. Will definitely visit again.

I had dinner here when staying at the hotel. Our stay was to be a rare, special night away but then I was up all night vomiting it back up whilst also suffering from diarrhoea. Spending the next 2 full days recovering. -For the 12 hours prior to the start of the vomiting and diarrhoea I only consumed food/drinks bought from the restaurant/hotel. -For the 9 hours prior I did not even leave the premises. -All the food I had in the day and a half before were shared with my partner. Their staff say that I 'simply cannot just presume' fault lies with them. Their opinion is that 'frankly I’m not convinced the hotel are the cause of your illness with the amount of variables that are un-accounted for.'

A brilliant venue for a special occasions

Terrible. Snails are faster. They smile but lie to your face about the food, when it will come ,etc 40 minutes until starter arrived which was just some smoked salmon on a plate; and another 40 before my cheese board arrived without the cheeses promised. Good thing I didn't order a main or I would be sitting there until midnight.

Part of the Barnes hotel, we had a buffet put up by the company and I have to say, the spread was good! Both vegan and other dishes served.

Food and service very good added bonus being able to use the Gourmet Dining discount card

Not a place for lunch. This place could offer a lot more given its location right next to the river. Very nice staff but choice of food unimaginative.

I have seen the wineglass restaurant pop up on my open table app quite a bit and was curious about what it offered. Upon further research, I found that they did a gluten free high tea. Well, being barred from gluten by my GP, I was well chuffed to find an advertised high tea that was gluten free. We went and we conquered the high tea! I got the gluten free option while my hubbie got the gluten option. Both were lovely! Gluten free bread was nice and soft, the gf scone was tasty and the macaroons were very flavorful. According to my husband, the gluten option was extremely tasty as well with a chocolate creme profiterole, two tarts and a creme horn. The service was impeccable. Nynke, Kay, Adam, Sharmaine were incredibly attentive and kept the prosecco coming within our time limit. I highly recommend the wineglass at the barns hotel the next time you are wanting to indulge. You will not be disappointed.
