Lively Friday night, with Karaoke band.

Omg the food is so tasty like home cooking, the music I loved which I’m surprised it’s not busy busy, the place does need a revamp but new owners means new beginnings.

Always such a great atmosphere at the standard with great themed nights and a beautiful comfy upstairs smoking area. The only thing bad I could say about the place is that I wish it was open more often.

I was working all day today and I went to get some Jerk chicken rice and peas in my break. The flavour of the Jerk chicken was amazing and better than any restaurant I have tried, it was authentically made and was very succulent and flavoursome. The place continues to improve under new management with excellent staff, service, cocktails and music! Love it!

Good crowd but terrible bar staff. Take ages to serve you

The standard is a quality venue on a Saturday night. What's not quality is the fact that we couldn't get served. Tonight a bald gent was behind the bar... Drinking while serving, a guy next to me and my mate asked for a jagerbomb instead of actually pouring redbull in to the shot to make the bomb the guy downed the jagger and then poured himself a double rum and continued to serve everyone else. Shame as the venue is normally a great night out but baldy had to ruin it. I'd be very surprised if other people don't complain via a review or complaint verbally to the bar staff.

Awesome place! Band is really good. Thursday nights were lively with bandeoke on. Go there and sing your heart out!!

Cheap booze, good music no frills.

Went into the Standard after a meal at The Nazar Lounge & before going to see Jimmy Carr . The Standard …. Ordered myself a double gin & lemonade ..came with melting ice & in a grubby plastic glass . I stared at it in disbelief & was asked by the bar staff “ everything ok ? “ in a abrupt tone . Also got a half a lager shandy , again in plastic . I watched it poured & bar lady kept topping up after removing froth a few times . My partner returned it & asked for another which was as bad . Drainage issues as it smelt in there & witnessed bar lady trying discreetly walk through the pub spraying cheap air freshener Shall not be returning.

Grand spot for a pint pity there wasn't live music night I was there overall good.

I found this pub completely unsuitable for anyone with a mobility issue or other disability as the only seating was high bar stools or chairs that were also too high for me to sit on and so the only place I could sit was on a sofa which was situated at the back of the bar in an alcove with no view at all of the stage. The toilets were also only accessible by stairs. The music as well was far too loud and I will never go back there or Recommend it to anyone.

Met great people and an amazing time. Thursday night Bandaoke is very fun!

Love this pub. Stumbled across it by accident but loved the live music. Two great guitarists and two great singers. Fantastic young lady running the venue. Will return.

Barmaid are lovely but the sercuity are horrible,kicked is out for been in work clothes yet we was in work clothes for comedy night,stereotyping if you ask me

I remember having a meal here with my family and friends about 1 or 2 years ago. The food that I ordered were really nice although I was really picky so I didn't get much but if I went there again now, then I would probably really like their food more than I had before.

It is a good pub, with a good area. But what I noticed was that the bar staff is there to serve their friends and the rest of the clients are served wen the staff want, not for order of arrival.

Love so much the "new standard"

I had a fantastic night out in the Standard with work colleagues. There was 12 of us in total and we all enjoyed it. The manager Gary was really lovely and made sure we were all ok. Gary really looks after his customers. I would certainly recommend a visit here,the music was good and there was no trouble. The doormen were all friendly. It was a great atmosphere and I will be back. Thank you to the doorman Michael and the Manager Gary, hope that was his name but I was a little worse for wear. Thank you Lisa

Murky atmosphere with some quite drunk, stumbling people. It was about 10pm on a Friday. Bar service was slow.

Quirky and Gothic, nice pub. Some of the locals look a bit rough, but that's Bedford for you. Good entertainment, great DJ. Good service, and the drinks are good value. I shall return.

Very professional door staff, always polite on entering and leaving and open the door for you. Needs redecoration. Smacks of a dark student bar vibe. A better dance floor area and DJ stand needs to be near the dance floor, DJ was good, but unfortunately not made a feature of as he should be. Needs better pub/club combo lighting in general. Move tables from around the bar as people block the area so getting to and away from the bar is almost to the point of giving up. The potential for spilling drinks and causing a drunken incident is high. The conveniences are inconveniently up a load of stairs not good for staggering drunken clientele to negotiate without falling and causing serious injury, especially for those in high heels. The top floor smoking open area could benefit from a bit of effort and made more of generally. All areas could be lots better. Has potential to be a great high street main venue.

Good food drinks, terrace is great, generally a good crowd ... Better sports channels would be good for watching footy.

Love this place Jason, Matel and the rest of bar staff are great and manager Gary they will go out of there way to ensure a great time while there.

Only lived in Bedford for 3 months and this is one of the first pubs i went to. Fantastic place with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Thou went there yesterday (Tuesday 6th Nov.) And it was shut. Shame as i wanted to watch the football as have not been there to see what the atmosphere is like...however take nothing away from a great great pub.

Really nice place. I was there few times and everything is all right. When I was there last time it was karaoke and there was really good fun. My friends and I was really happy that we can take part of this entertainment. Also they have a nice terrace upstairs. Staff is polite and talkative and they encourage to be a part of performance.

Absolutely gorgeous decor was tad loud music what's the point in all the tables if u can't sit and talk from hearing yourself ?

Potentially a fabulous place love the decor but understaffed no food available as chef was not there.

A quite spacious pub/bar rights on High street, Bedford town centre. You won't miss it, just look for the real human size statues of Laurel and Hardy. Beautifully decorated inside & outdoor upstairs. There's movie night every Monday night, and live music Wednesday or Friday with fantastic talented singers & musicians. The food, pizza is delicious, while the price is quite cheap. Fried chicken is delicious too!

Overpriced, barman looked a bit hacked off we bothered him by asking for a drink.

Enjoy having a drink here. Has outdoor space upstairs for smoking and drinking. Pours a decent pint only downside is the upstairs bar doesn't pour draft pints so it's up and down every pint

This place is not my sort of place, but if you are someone into live music, being loud and having a good time then this is your place to go, the drinks arnt badly priced, its a nice bar to go to, but as i said if your not into live music its probably best to give this one a miss..

A very nice place, with delicious homemade pizzas. On Sundays there are mini acoustic concerts.

Great atmosphere! Has an outside bar in the smoking area! The pub it self has so much character. But in the week it’s also good for a chilled night too.

My favourite pub/bar that I frequent on a weekly basis!

The Standard is a long established public house in Bedfords High street. The staff are friendly and helpful and the clientele are of all ages. The decor is cosy, with antique style furniture and furnishings. Upstairs is another seating area that leads out to a roof patio area, that is covered. During the summer the front windows are completely open and a nice cool comforting breeze gently blows in to cool you down. Of course there are various alcoholic beverages to keep you cool. Or if you fancy a tea like me, you will get a very nice cuppa to, on a silver tray. All in all, a nice British Pub indeed.

In terms of choice of pubs in Beford The Standard is a favourite simply because live music is often on, the range of drinks is better than most on the high street, the atmosphere is good, but most importantly the upstairs terrace is a great place to have a few drinks, whether you smoke or not. Have been loads and will go again soon.
