Love having this place within 10mins walk of our house. Every time friends visit we bring them here also for a tasting, or a few glasses. Such a great business x

An absolute gem: exquisite wine and food, and delightful people

All round excellent bar! Booked here with my partner and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with live music and warm service. We’ve tried a few places in the area and this easily comes on top :)

We went for drinks here 3 times over our long weekend in London. It's such a great place to try out new wines and the staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is great and I've been here in the past when there's been live music which was so much fun. Definitely one of my Balham top spots.

We did a lovely winetasting here downstairs in the basement. The wines were lovely and sour the vibes.

I never leave reviews but had to for this place to encourage others to have the same fantastic experience that we had! I booked a wine and cheese tasting for my boyfriend's birthday and I can't recommend it enough. We tried lots of new wines that we'd never had before and they were all perfectly paired with a delicious cheese that enhanced the flavour of the wine. Our guide, Chris, was super knowledgeable and friendly. The tasting took place in the wine cellar below the shop which was a really nice space. 10/10!!!

WARNING! NEW MANAGEMENT. We have been going to The Wine Tasting Shop for years and hired the venue for birthsdays and they've always been lovely. However, it seems they are under new management and I've honestly not been treated this badly in any restaurant. We came with our two kids and initially the owner tried to tell us that he couldn't re-arrange the tables to accomodate 4 people. A nice couple moved to allow us to sit together (and were admonished for that). The owner was then icredibly short towards us and once my glass was empty just ignored us and did everything to make us feel unwelcome. If you're a parent, DON'T GO. If you're not, decide for yourself whether you want to maintain the community feel in Balham or support this kind of venue. It's a real shame because I used to love The Wine Tasting Shop. I really hope that management changes again.

One of the new owner's initiatives since taking over a few months ago is organizing wine tastings in the cellar of the place. It was a fantastic experience! The wines selected for the tasting were of high quality, with no cheap options in sight. The owner, who also served as our entertaining host, made the evening very, very enjoyable. To top it off, the cheese provided was sourced from Hamish and Johnson off Northcote Road, adding a delightful touch. We highly recommend this wine shop for a high-quality wine tasting experience that is definitely worth the cost.

We spend too much time here. It is our go to wether its just for a glass or settling in for the evening with a bottle or two. We have also enjoyed a private wine tasting in the cellar for a birthday celebration and had an excellent evening. The selection of wine is great and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and will always have something interesting to try.

If I’m in Balham, I come here for a glass or two (or three) of wine at one of the outside tables (blankets provided when it’s chilly). There’s always a decent selection and you can buy a bottle inside if nothing takes your fancy on the menu. The food plates are decent as well, if a little expensive. Haven’t tried their wine tastings yet but do intend to.

In Balham, the best place to drink amazing wines.

The perfect place to go for “a quick drink” and end up staying for three hours! Great wine, lovely staff, and even better on a sunny evening.

Cute spot but can’t help but notice an overwhelming smell of damp every time I walk in which completely puts me off having a drink there.

We visited on a sunny Friday afternoon, sat outside and drank good wine with a lovely food platter. What more could you ask for?

Little gem in Balham. My husband and I popped in for a couple of glasses on Sunday. Not the friendliest welcome initially but the staff soon softened up and recommended some lovely bottles. The wine bottles itself are definitely on the expensive side but they favour smaller more independent vineyards and only take the best, so you know you will be getting something special. The place had a great atmosphere - a good place for relaxed drinks with friends.

The Wine Tasting Shop is a great place to visit and: enjoy a glass wine tasting to buy if you liked it; try a great "tagliere" while tasting the glass of wine; ask for some suggestions to lovely staff while trying a great "tagliere" in order to buy a bottle of wine; being amazed by the underground cellar while looking for a unknown bottle of wine to be tried while enjoying a great tagliere, listening to the suggestions of the lovely staff in order to buy the bottle of wine you tried. Was I clear?

Nice wines and very cute place but bad service. I have been waiting more than half an hour to order a second glass of wine and some food but nobody came outside to take the order so I went inside to pay and left (asked to remove the service charge from the bill of course). The waitress was inside texting at the phone the whole time . I have been working in hospitality for many years and this is not a good service at all..

Nice bar. Good wine options. Charging service charge for one glass of wine for one customer seems a bit over the top.

Great service, reasonable prices and lovely cheese/meat platters - this place has been a real success ever since it opened in Balham and here’s to hoping it stays for a long time

I love the Wine Tasting Shop. The staff and super helpful and knowledgeable. They have an infallible knack of suggesting the right wine, in the right price range to match any food I have cooked. Pop in for a glass and drink outside or pick up a bottle from home

This place is so cute! The wine we had was brilliant (we had the rosé) and the charcuterie and cheese board was absolutely delicious. The bread that came with the board was SO good I haven't stopped going on about it to people. Would definitely recommend for a summer evening drink outside

I was an occasional customer pre lockdown but have been blown away by the service in the past few weeks. Order over the phone for same day delivery by the smiling owner and not a delivery drone a la deliveroo etc. Super friendly & helpful when ordering and (other suppliers can learn from this) no attempt to push you out of your price range or sneer at lower end selections. Recommendations have been in line with other purchases and worth the risk on an unknown style. Luckily, as previously experienced, every bottle is good and when we have moved up the list a bit we haven’t been disappointed. After requesting a particular line which was out of stock a couple of times the owner even ordered some more in- excellent. It would be unfair not to mention the young man who has generally served me in the shop in the past who is always engaging, knowledgeable and, again, super friendly. The delivery option has taken our wine spending away from the supermarkets and they certainly will not be getting it back- an outstanding small business for Balham which should be cherished and supported - luckily from what I have seen it very much is.

We love it love it love it. Warmest welcome, best advices as wine knowledge is impressive and a contagious passion when there, + much dynamism with jazz evenings, wine tasting evenings and more. Tables outside. A very lucky place to have in Balham!

Really nice.. I dont drink but my mate had birthday here and it was nice sitting inside here facing each other on long benches with a wall of "try me" wine that had handwritten reviews on large Alice in wonderland style tags. We went on a night where a tiny loud blues band (two guys) sat basically under our armpits singing and strumming away tow tapping jazz bar level music.. I danced a lol bit.. Good clean crisp energy with no after taste. Loved it

Brilliant place to find out about wine, or even better, drink it.

£30 for tasting consisting of about half a dozen wines. For two of us that's £60. You can do your own tasting for that price at home with 5 mostly-full bottles for the rest of the week. Much better to go to wine society tasting or some other proper shop.

Lovely spot for drinks with some live music on Fridays. They have a lovely list of wines by the glass and walls of bottles to buy. The cheese board was plentiful and very tasty, although I would have liked at least one stronger cheese on the board, mostly were mild. Great location and easy walk from the station. Will defo go again.

One of my most favourite places in Balham, if not my most favourite. I love coming here on a Friday evening or a lazy Sunday afternoon and listening to music and drinking wine at the counter. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. They've introduced me to wines that I would most likely have never tried/experienced. They make a deleciouse cheese plate too -- love the Comte and fig jam. :)

Really good fun on a Friday night, the place has a good buzz about it. Tip: best place to come for a glass of wine on a sunny weekend day in Balham. Sit outside enjoy a great glass and watch the world go by. Super tip: They don't mind if someone in your party fancies a beer. Just pop along to We Brought Beer and bring one back.

I think this is such a great idea - a wine dedicated place with tasting and options for around the world. The atmosphere is great and the live music is uplifting. Just wasn't too happy for being charged so much extra to drink my choice of wine there - as much as I understand the need for take away and drink in prices, I think £10 extra charge for a bottle that costed £17 was a bit too much.

As well as a wonderful selection of wine they do great wine tasting evenings where you learn a lot and taste some lovely wines all picked specifically for each session by the owner. Everyone who works here loves wine and is passionate about the finds they have in store which you just won't get elsewhere. And they support some great vineyards around the word. A favourite!

Really nice people. When you have a bit of time drop in for a glass of excellent wine at the bar. I often find that I've drifted into that second glass - purely for educational reasons, you understand. Great cheese platters.

I went into the Wine Tasting Shop to pick up some wine for a gift. Julia was very quick in finding some perfect selections in a range of price that worked for me, and provided some additional information that was both interesting and helped me to personalise the buying decision even more. She really knows her stuff, and when you are in looking for a great wine selection in Balham, walk past Sainsbury, stop before you get to waitrose, and check out her shop. Brilliant.

good place to buy good/better than average wine but not too expensive (we normally buy wine that costs above £10-£15). my husband and I prefer to buy here than in other places in Balham because here they know what that they are talking about and they listen to the client's needs.We haven't been disappointed yet :).
