A great facility with a stunning view and delicious food. However, be aware that even if you book a table by the window, you may not get it. Despite making reservations three times, I never managed to secure a table with a sea view, which unfortunately impacted our anniversary and my dad's birthday.

Don’t come here for a Sunday roast, pork crackling inedible, vegetables unseasoned for being overpriced and a very poor service. When letting the staff know they apologised and said they would feed it back to the chef , never came over to ask how food was during the meal , no offer for complimentary drinks or dessert given we didn’t get what we paid for.

This used to be a gem of a place and showed how casual eating places should be done. Sadly now the food at best is average "boil in the bag" fare and the drinks prices are frankly outrageous. This is not London's West End! There is the view across the Bristol Channel that saves it but not much else. Recently revisited and not much has improved. At 7.15pm, this foodie pub was more interested in getting the kitchen closed than customer service. Indeed when we asked for a table the waitress made a great fuss about checking her computer to see if there was any availability. Apart from two other tables the place was empty! On a beautiful summers night the pub and beer garden should have been very busy, not empty. We couldn't get out quick enough

Not all pubs are born equal. Some emerge from the pub primordial ooze, sprout four walls, a roof, and offer the same dreary experience as the next boozer down the road. But once in a blue moon, a pub is blessed with a location so spectacular, so staggeringly picturesque, that it transcends the realm of mere watering hole and becomes a destination. The Windmill in Portishead is one such pub. Perched on a hillside with sweeping vistas over the Severn Estuary, flanked by lush fields, The Windmill makes an entrance worthy of a Hollywood starlet. On a sunny day, it’s less of a pub and more of a slice of heaven served with a pint. The recently refurbished interior strikes that delicate balance between the charm of a traditional pub and the allure of modern comforts. Downstairs, it’s all cozy corners and inviting nooks. But ascend the staircase and you're greeted by an extraordinary floor-to-ceiling window that offers panoramic views so breathtaking, you might forget to order your pint. The outside seating is arranged as if the architect had but one directive: maximise the view. And maximise it they did. Tables are strategically positioned to ensure that every patron, from the seasoned regular to the casual drop-in, gets an eyeful of the magnificent scenery. Then there's the food, a triumph of traditional pub fare done right. Whether it’s a hearty pie, a succulent bacon chop, or the fresh sea bass, the kitchen at The Windmill knows how to deliver excellence on a plate. So, if you find yourself in Portishead, take a detour to The Windmill. Because there, you’re not just going for a drink; you’re going for an experience that reminds you that some pubs are indeed born superior.

Unfortunately they messed up my order. It was pretty specific as I am allergic to many things. To their credit they took the food back and remade it. But they still got the order wrong and then charged me for a pile of stuff I never had. Again to their credit they removed abit from the bill when we brought it to their attention. Over all it was a nice lunch.

Wonderful location with great views and I wanted to love the food but was so disappointed. We came for my birthday today which made it even worse. I ordered the chicken roast dinner really really poor, my food was swimming in gravy which made the potatoes soft and the cauliflower cheese like soup. Two tiny pieces of chicken and vegetables that were hard best thing was the Yorkshire puddings. My partner he is a coeliac really poor choice on the menu, he ordered the roast aswell but paid the same price for really nothing on this plate, waiter should of asked if he wanted more of something else or not charged full price. The Windmill could be really good as it's such a lovely setting, but it's overpriced for sub standard food, which ruined what could of been a great birthday meal out.. Updated - I wanted to update my review as today we were invited back to give them another go on the house. A very good and positive experience this time and the food was lovely. Thank you so much for your hospitality and we will deffo be back .

I was very very disappointed with our visit. It was a special occasion as it was my daughter’s birthday and my first issue was not being allowed to choose something from the child’s menu. There were two of us that can’t eat very much, I can’t due to stomach surgery and I had looked at the children’s menu in advance and knew what I wanted. We were told we can have a smaller portion but we were only given two choices both of which were fried food which make me ill. The other issue was an extremely large party came in that were extremely loud so much so that one family asked to move tables and I heard her say that they were behaving like animals. The staff did nothing to quieten them down which totally spoilt my daughter’s experience there. I’ve never been somewhere where they do not allow you to choose from the children’s menu so we won’t be coming back. At the very least I’d like an apology from them for their attitude and making me ill but they haven’t.

Not as good as normal, sons had the chicken roast and got legs with very little meat on. The wife had pork, one slice only and I had the beef which was sadest of all, 2 and a bit slices of meat, extremely thin and presented like an after thought, placed on top of the meal including the gravy, 2 and a bit dry pieces of meat, not really good enough, the veg was not overly warm either. We've been many times and the standard is normally good but wether it was because it was father's day and they were trying to get as many through as possible or some other reason, we were disappointed.

Refurbishment gives the restaurant area some class and the estuary view is fantastic. Main meals were ok without being fantastic, and the desserts came with a negligible amount of ice cream. This place never ceases to amaze me, been coming here on and off for 30 years, it's always been such a let down. Took my mum here for her birthday as the royal couldn't take a large table. We were there for nearly 3 hours and only had a main and few kids desserts, that shows you how slow the service is. Had to ask twice to be served and there was barely anyone in there. £5.95 for a kids brownie, £3 for a thimble of curry sauce and £4.50 for two sprigs of broccoli, the whole menu is overpriced for the quality of the food. First time in my life I've never left a tip.

It was a Saturday Mid Afternoon Lunch when myself and 5 others, attended by invitation only, went to see, taste and enjoy The Windmill in its newly refurbished surroundings and its updated new menu options. The team were all still embedding into a new menu and also table layout. Nothing was too much trouble and the food that our table enjoyed was absolutely delicious along with the new cocktail menu and dessert options too. My advice is to work from the dessert options and go forwards to the start of the menu as you won’t want to miss trying out their puddings. Good luck to the team and Thank You as you were all well deserving of the 5 stars that I have given to them. @Google, The good options below do not now match the menu so you may want to look at updating these fairly soon.

The pub itself has just had a complete overhaul, with everything from the bar to the furniture having been replaced. Booths have even been moved, to make the most of the views across the Severn Estuary. And what views they are 🤩 We were lucky enough to be sat next to one of the windows as the sun was starting to set and it really was a beautiful spot. We went for: 🩵 British 'Cobble Lane' charcuterie for 2 🩵 Avocado & red chilli salsa bruschetta 🩵 White pork belly croquettes 🩵 Chaleroft Farm beef burger with extra Mrs Owton’s streaky bacon 🩵 Beer battered haddock triple cooked chips 🩵 Rocket & Grana Padano salad 🩵 Brownie and Ice Cream 🩵 Sticky Toffee Pudding with Salted Caramel 👧🏻 Garlic Flat Bread 👧🏻 Kids Sausage, Mash & Peas 👧🏻 Kids Brownie and Ice Cream We had a really lovely welcome (B massively appreciated the lady serving us volunteering to print off colouring sheets and bringing a pot of coloured pencils) and enjoyed our food. Highlights for me included the sharing board (love that it had cornichons, I’m obsessed!) and the brownie was one of the best I’ve eaten in ages 🤤 Kid’s mains are £7.95 and don’t include a drink or pudding but do include one side. I liked the fact that if she’d gone for the mac & cheese (sadly they’d run out) she could have had pepper or carrot sticks on the side, as it was she enjoyed her sausage and mash with peas. On my last visit to The Windmill we sat outside to make the most of the panoramic perspective, and I’m pleased to report it’s still a fabulous spot to do so. I did also hear a rumour of pods of some description being fitted at some point in the future, a host of events being planned (Shakespeare in the garden anyone?) and cocktail offers on the horizon too! Took a point off the food as chips with the burger were underdone and found the croquettes a bit dry. We visited for their soft opening and passed the feedback on though, so will be interested to go back and see how that’s filtered through.

This was a pre booked dinner with friends at around 2.30pm on a Sunday. We arrived ordered, seemed to be a lot of confusion with the order, most got mains. I asked for two bar snacks and roast potatoes. Mine came after around 10minutes delaying everyone else’s, we assume. had to go back to the bar to say ready for mains. The others in our group described the Sunday roast as “school dinner” standard dry turkey ( as run out of chicken and pork). It might be good early on a Sunday, but later the food quality was poor as was the service, and not cheap. We have been before but will not be back. The only good thing was dog friendly.
