The restaurant is stunning - recommend going for sunset on a clear day as the views are amazing! Service was slow but the food was good! I had the Indian Salad which was super flavourful. I would also recommend include the Chicken Snitzel (although chips don’t come with it so need to get them as a side) Scampi and the Sausage & Mash. Overall a lovely evening!

Excellent views but very disappointing food this lunchtime. The small lunchtime meals, which are usually enough at most places, were extremely small and the ploughman’s to share was smaller than you get for one at a lot of places. You get similar quality but a lot bigger portions costing far less at The Royal Inn nearby, which has similar views and a much better atmosphere. Also no blue light discount at the Windmill which they have at The Royal, so similar (but larger) meal approx 40% cheaper at The Royal

Staff were nice with the exception on the new guy, they were a bit disorganised though. Place was very quiet for a Friday night and the food was quite disappointing and not a lot of choice, courgette and crab linguine with raw onion on top was upsetting to have. It has a fantastic view, as long as you don't go at night.

Have lived locally in the area and visited the Windmill sporadically for years. It's our closest pub and we desperately want it to be somewhere we can pop to on a lovely summers evening for a pint and a nice pub meal. It isn't. Every time we go we find it to be disappointing. Today we visited for the first time in some while, after a major refit of the pub. It hasn't changed. Location is nice with a lovely view of the estuary. Staff are fine, decor is fine, but it's very over priced for what it is. Food a particular disappointment. More than twenty pounds for a 'skewer sharer' platter which, comically, comes with a single chicken and single lamb skewer........

Prebooked and prepaid for party of 17 for niece's birthday. On arrival we were looking at being crammed into a small side room which wasn't even set up properly. Were moved to L shaped table so didn't get a chance to talk to everyone, waited far too long for food and when it arrived, half was cold, potatoes like pebbles and far too salty

Food took 45 mins to arrive during a seemingly quiet lunchtime . Mashed potato was gluey, faggots just about above room temperature. Barman who clearly didn't want to be there, considered a warm can of Guinness to be an acceptable option and seemed fed up when I asked for a pint of Pride instead. Would not reccomend.

It's mediocre. Walked in, no booking, but seated next to a very noisy family.....why do they do that. A couple with no children next to a family with 3 or 4 kids? We had a Sunday roast, asked for gravy in a jug and had to wait nearly 10 minutes for it to arrive, so my meal was basically cold. Beef very gristly.

One of a highly cost effective restaurant I’ve ever been. Nice view, the waitress Joanne is very smart and friendly, serving us so well. The food was delicious, big portions and more favour than we expected. The sausage is pretty good as the sauce is very good. At last the delicious by having lime cheesecake and the ice creams with 2 favours (dark chocolate and salty caramel perfectly matched). The only thing I’d like to recommend is the beef, a little bit overcooked.

Really gone downhill! Went for Sunday lunch yesterday & really not impressed. The beef was very fatty. The service was terrible & it was hard to find anyone to flag down to ask for more gravy & horseradish. We were not asked once how our meal was. This can be an amazing pub. It has stunning views and some lovely, dog friendly staff but they keep moving the goal posts all the time. One day you can eat outside, the next day you can't. One day they're serving the sandwich menu, the next day they're not. Food service can also end really early and some days the food is fantastic whilst other days it's deffo pre made and heated through from frozen. It's such a shame as the potential to be a consistently fantastic local destination seems to be just out of reach and worse of all, since the refurb is the prices. Scandalously expensive and very poor veggie options - £18.50 mains served with tinned peas!

Food was fine- normal for a pub, nothing wrong and also nothing that stood out, prices however are on the upper end of normal for the quality. 1 piece of feedback- the dog area is downstairs, but the bowls & water are upstairs. People juggling a dog, bag & water/ bowl could potentially be a hazard on the stairs so I would suggest moving it to the bottom of the stairs both for easier access and for safety 🙂

Lovely location but the food was disappointing for the price paid. Crumbs on the table when we sat down in the conservatory area. Unsightly heater, practical but not attractive! Aubergine Moussaka with Greek Salad was more like Boulangere Potatoes with a few Mushrooms and slices of Aubergine on top. No spices, no tomato sauce and very little flavour. Greek Salad was tasty but small... Such a shame when taking a friend to a local pub for lunch. Maybe we just picked a bad day, but still not good value for money.

Slightly disappointed with our two visits this week for our 43rd anniversary meal, first visit, there were foods which they had run out of, possibly understand as it was a booking at 19.00 hrs. But the company, atmosphere and views made it a lovely evening. Our second visit today unfortunately was just as disappointing, they had run out of several Sunday lunch meal choices, this booking was for an earlier time of 17:00 hrs. So thought there wouldn’t have been the same issues we had with the later booking. On all the meal choices they had run out of the cauliflower cheese and just substituted with a little more cabbage, the yorkshire pudding were very large and dry, and there was very little gravy on the plate and had to wait for more to be brought out. Finally the meal was capped off with our dessert choice having run out, although it’s a lovely setting we’re not sure if we want to risk another disappointing meal there.

This used to be a gem of a place and showed how casual eating places should be done. Sadly now the food at best is average "boil in the bag" fare and the drinks prices are frankly outrageous. This is not London's West End! There is the view across the Bristol Channel that saves it but not much else. Recently revisited and not much has improved. At 7.15pm, this foodie pub was more interested in getting the kitchen closed than customer service. Indeed when we asked for a table the waitress made a great fuss about checking her computer to see if there was any availability. Apart from two other tables the place was empty! On a beautiful summers night the pub and beer garden should have been very busy, not empty. We couldn't get out quick enough

Not all pubs are born equal. Some emerge from the pub primordial ooze, sprout four walls, a roof, and offer the same dreary experience as the next boozer down the road. But once in a blue moon, a pub is blessed with a location so spectacular, so staggeringly picturesque, that it transcends the realm of mere watering hole and becomes a destination. The Windmill in Portishead is one such pub. Perched on a hillside with sweeping vistas over the Severn Estuary, flanked by lush fields, The Windmill makes an entrance worthy of a Hollywood starlet. On a sunny day, it’s less of a pub and more of a slice of heaven served with a pint. The recently refurbished interior strikes that delicate balance between the charm of a traditional pub and the allure of modern comforts. Downstairs, it’s all cozy corners and inviting nooks. But ascend the staircase and you're greeted by an extraordinary floor-to-ceiling window that offers panoramic views so breathtaking, you might forget to order your pint. The outside seating is arranged as if the architect had but one directive: maximise the view. And maximise it they did. Tables are strategically positioned to ensure that every patron, from the seasoned regular to the casual drop-in, gets an eyeful of the magnificent scenery. Then there's the food, a triumph of traditional pub fare done right. Whether it’s a hearty pie, a succulent bacon chop, or the fresh sea bass, the kitchen at The Windmill knows how to deliver excellence on a plate. So, if you find yourself in Portishead, take a detour to The Windmill. Because there, you’re not just going for a drink; you’re going for an experience that reminds you that some pubs are indeed born superior.

Food and service satisfactory. Unfortunately had to rate only 3 stars as i ordered prawn fried rice but received without the prawns. Also they don't offer fine noodles only thick noodles which is a shame as doesn't offer much choice like other chinese restaurants and takeaways. The vegetable chow mein is really disappointing as it doesn't have much vegetables in it such as broccoli and spring onion. Lastly, they don't offer home delivery which knocks off a star for me. Overall not bad but not great either. Definitely needs improvement! Update: Just to add, written down on the list was Prawn Fried Rice. Luckily i still have the list and I double checked - it definitely said Prawn! But thanks for the reply and hope to see improvements soon :)

Went here for a Sunday roast and the food was great. I chose pork and the pork loin was very soft and tasty, it wasn't pork belly but it came with the crackling. The slices had the perfect thickness. Delicious and generous Yorkshire Puddings. The portion of side veggie was spot on, no wasted food at the end. Felt happy for that, manage to finish it all without being stuffed, which means there was still space for desert. The deserts are exceptional, the Belgium Waffle with salted caramel ice cream and caramelised pecans was a no brainer. So good. Very good ambiance, staff really nice and pet friendly. Depending where you seat, you'll be able to see the kitchen staff working and preparing your food. Calm and organised environment. It is a great pub in the heart of a great town. Free carpark within 50 yards.
