The Wig & Pen in Northampton

Excellent real ale at a reasonable price. Food was good and cooked to order. Staff were helpful, with two of them going above and beyond expectations. I will be back soon.

We was on a boys night out we came for drinks and sat outside in the beer garden it was so nice only had a band on the atmosphere was wicked

Fab pub. Met my partner here 10 years ago and still together! Visited recently on a live music night and had a amazing time.

The place has friendly staff and a nice environment. The food though was an issue, starters sent back twice as they where undercooked, the roasts where okay, a bit flavourless, chicken seemed stringy and dry, beef was okay but again stringy and just cooked. All mains seemed abit rushed, which is a shame was they was not that busy. Deserts where good. All in all I would go to The wig and pen again but probably not eat. The staff where happy to offer a refund for both starters, and deserts where refund as a good will gesture, which was very much appreciated.

Another Northampton bar overwhelmed by not realising how many Munster fans would travel but at least this one had enough drinks and glasses! Staff were friendly but they didn't have enough so wait times at the bar were lengthy. Great selection of drinks, all my favourites were available. Music was good but very loud. We almost went back a second day but even just opening the door the music was deafening so we went elsewhere. Toilet paper dispenser in one toilet was broken.

I popped in for a pre theatre pint and was greeted by friendly bar staff. Lovely little pub with a really nice garden.

Many years ago I played in a Goth band and performed in this pub - which was then very much a spit-and-sawdust affair. Now, though, it is a very nice and cosy place - completely transformed. Recommended - particularly for the weekend evenings where great live music is on offer. .

Went here before the theatre and it was a great find. Food was delicious and staff were very friendly. Great to sit outside with the heaters on.

Popped in for breakfast, best value breakfast around. Each different element had its own flavour. No blandness at all. Fresh tomatoes was an amazing touch. Really good pot of tea too. Staff were really attentive too. Highly recommend

I had a Christmas lunch with colleagues. It was one of the best Christmas lunches that I have ever had. The food was lovely and the service was great too.

i would just love to say how amazing the team are at their jobs especially when they are under pressure on a very busy saturday night. the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful with their live music. i felt very welcomed as soon as i entered. Duncan the manager is very good at making his customers feel like they are his friends. our first server was called Will and he was very sweet to us and also patient when my silly husband could not work out what he wanted to drink! 🙈 the live music is very well done and the setting is absolutely amazing. will be coming back !!!

What an absolutely delightful pub. The food was excellent, the drink was spot on and the staff were friendly and helpful. The real log fire and comfortable seats were really welcome after a wander around the shops. Highly recommended.

I didn't have any food, but from what I saw it looked nice. Its a great pub with good selection on beers, and the atmosphere is how it should be in a pub. I highly recommend going to the Wig and Pen. I loved my time there.

Was quite busy but got seating for 4 OK.

It is a great building that I have been to many times over the last twenty odd years. The indoor space is a proper pub atmosphere, but the outdoor space is where it comes into it's own. Perfect for sitting outside in whatever the weather, but more importantly the perfect space for live music. A proper jewel in the centre of Northampton

What a great night. Excellent beer and a live band

I come here quite a bit on Sundays to see their live bands and have dinner. Today has been very disappointing as ordered the Sunday dinner and usually you get a nice bit of veg greens and carrots etc but today I got a couple of strips of carrots and some parsnips which were the same colour as my beef . It was very disappointing to Say the least and I felt it was to busy to really complain to much . Picture below . Not acceptable for a Sunday lunch . I will say the beef and pigs in blankets were nice but maybe put the veg on as that’s a cheap option to bulk the dinners out and for people to have their 5 a day .

Doug on security was amazing, my friend lost her jacket and he made it his mission to find it! Great atmosphere and service.

I came here for an evening out on a Friday. Maybe a sign of the times, but it wasn't too busy. What was nice was the security guard was welcoming, there were a lot of servers available so there wasn't a long wait at all. The bar had a considerable selection available and multiple beers including some craft beers on tap. The prices were reasonable and a round came to about £16 for 3 people. Out back there was a covered area in the beer "garden", but mostly patio, where a live band set up shop. the only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me was the band was a little loud (literally only had to turn it down a bit) because it made conversation super difficult.

The most expensive beer I've ever had.

Amazing little pub right in the middle of Northampton. They had live music playing in the garden. The song selection was amazing. We had a couple of drinks and sat in the garden. The service was quick even with the pub being extremely crowded. It attracts a more senior crowd, not like there's anything wrong with that. It got very busy at around 11pm.

Saturday 9th April 2022 I visited this lively town centre real ale Pub really nice place nice staff beer was good but it was spoilt by the loud music played constantly which was not to my taste It was more up-to-date awful music sadly Saturday 29th April 2023 Today , we used this pub and I was happily surprised the beer was better staff sill great and friendly better music to the ear and atmosphere a mass improvement than last time Upgraded from 4 to 5 stars on the improvements mentioned

Went to the pub yesterday as it was recommended. The first thing we noticed when walking through the door was the smell. Walked up to the bar, and the small group of us decided that we can't eat in there. Perhaps on a different day it smells fine.

Usual pub food served hot and quick by very lovely staff. We were happy with the verity of ales on offer as this is not always easy to find. My one criticism would be how small the pub is to have the many big screen tv's, which means it can get uncomfortably packed when the local football or rugby is on. Plus points: town centre location, lovely staff, good range of pub food. Negatives: small, parking max stay 2hrs, gets busy very quickly on Saturdays.

Very expensive compared to other pubs in town. When the live music is on, forget trying to get to the shabby toilets! Nobody moves out of the way and you literally have to push your way through. Far too many people crammed into the pub! Some unfriendly regulars who think they own the place!

Great pub for ales as well as usual classic lagers. Food is amazing and the live music scene is really buzzing. Great outdoor space. Probably the best pub in town

Hadn't been in here for years so went in for a pint with a mate - decent selection of beer - was a quiet period so don't know what it's like when busy but the place was clean and friendly

Great boozer, awesome ales and massive supporters of live music with entertainment Fri sat and sun every week. My band Echoplane gigs here and we get the best support from staff, security and the punters. Brilliant pub.

Good beer and service. Very crowded in evening. Doormen on duty on Saturday night. Same with all busy locations in Northampton.

Always an enjoyable experience to have a pint in The Wig and Pen. Try to visit every time we go over from Dublin.

Great day, while watching England vs All blacks. Staff where great and definitely one of the best pubs to watch the rugby!! Added bonus was the live music after the game (saturday night) Couldn't recommend this pub more!!

Small and busy pub. There is a very nice back garden to enjoy your pint or meal, weather permitting.

Hadn't been here for years. Recently moved back to town and passed by whilst out shopping. Popped in for a drink, nice cosy pub with a steady stream of customers at this midweek lunchtime. Service was good and beer for me, wine for the lady, went down well. Didn't eat this time but menu was good pub fare, the kitchen was busy, so will try in the near future. This is also a well known local music venue on some evenings and weekends, might give that a try too!

I sort of like this place and it has a good beer selection plus they show a lot of televised rugby but there are some right big heads drinking there. The beer's not much more expensive than in the rest of Northampton but you might think that some of them believe they're in The Ritz. Food is ok. My Hunter's Chicken was actually pretty good, though it's hard to get wrong. My partner's chilli was more like rice with mince. Far too mild to call chilli and the guacamole was apparently awful. I can't stand the stuff so didn't try it.

Lovely place, first time visiting for live band and was a good evening only dropped one star as one of our drinks (Guinness) was left once topped up on the drip tray and we have to take it for ourself as seemed to be forgotten about.
