This place sets the standards for pubs! We visited on a Saturday night, while the bar was busy we were served quickly and the atmosphere was made by a roaring log fire and exceptional beer. Our table in the restaurant was beautifully decorated with fresh wildflowers, the menu was a great mix of pub classics and specials, we shared a pate to start which was clearly homemade and served with the most delicious bread, for mains I went for the seasbass special and my husband the steak and ale pie. We both would have licked our plates clean if we could have, the food was perfection! I didn't need dessert...but I still managed to squeeze in a tiramisu and I'm so glad I did; I could have been sat in Rome eating it it was THAT good. Absolutely faultless meal, service and we've already booked to come back in a few weeks.

August 2024. Had to edit my old review as it won’t let me add a new one… Absolutely appalling experience and horrible attitude from “owners”. We decided to visit the pub again with our family after last time finding the pub had transformed from the dark, dirty, pub we had known it to be with an unkempt weed garden in to a beautiful, welcoming family friendly pub with ducks in the garden (new manager had transformed it). But when we arrived we found it wasn’t a patch again. The ducks had all gone from the garden, the pub looks uncared for and the vile smell of dirty toilets hits you immediately as you walk in the door! Nevertheless we had driven out to the pub, with family in tow so thought we’d have a bite to eat in the garden as their outdoor BBQ was on (disappointed but hungry) only to be informed there was no food being served. When I pointed out that there were several customers sitting outside eating, we were informed “that was only for shareholders!!” So basically there WAS food being served, just not for us. When I asked if Stuart was around (he’d been so welcoming before) I was informed he’d left. Well all I can say is; it shows!! It’s back to how it was. We won’t be bothering to visit again. Unless we buy some shares in the place, maybe then we’ll be considered ‘worthy’ customers.

Came to support FeFest and witnessed what could only be described as bullying, intimidation and complete unprofessionalism by Stuart the Manager to a young male staff worker. The young man had clearly made a mistake but for Stuart to repeatedly swear at him infront of lots of people was completely uncalled for. He abused his power as a Manager! Would not recommend this place nor will I be going back. Do hope the young man is ok as he was visibly shaking.

First time eating at The White Lion and most certainly will now be a firm favourite. Great choice of food and both our meals were delicious. Both had the very tasty belly pork to start. I then had the sweet potato curry and hubby had the steak pie. Staff were lovely and it has a lovely feel about it. Community have a little gem here, keep up the good work 👏

A lovely, cosy village pub. Our server Thomas George was extremely nice and attentive also set us a beautiful ambient atmosphere. Food was hot so was the waiter ;) and packed full of flavour (I would highly recommend the gyros, plates were left empty!). A good selection of alcohol on option too! I felt like I was walking on air after my visit here and would recommend popping in.

It's a simple village pub and that's not intended by any means in a derisory way, they're a rare find these days. We took a punt on a wet and miserable Wednesday lunch time. The pub was warm and welcoming in every respect. Steak and mushroom pie and chips was spot on, as was the Station bitter. Would happily recommend. And mustn't forget the very attentive barman. We'll be back.

Such a disappointing visit. Ushered into the Cow Shed. Zero atmosphere, stressed staff. Asked for water, didn’t arrive. Had to ask for cutlery, food cold by the time we had the cutlery. Food was ok, hot or even warm would have been nice. Asked for the bill, didn’t arrive, went to pay and left. Not asked once if everything was ok, in which case I would have mentioned it. First and last visit. I suspect from overhearing other guests that they won’t be returning. £50 odd hard earned money would have been better spent elsewhere. We wanted to support new owners. I hope things improve in the future for them as they have the foundation of what could be a great country pub. Beef was good (but cold) having been dragged from the pub to the Cow Shed. Over cooked broccoli, under cooked cauliflower cheese. The half a carrot and slither of parsnip taste was good but again cold. Ice cream scoop of mash….cold. I’m looking for some positives but I’m struggling to find them with either with the food or service.

The White Lion is a community owned pub, which has existed since the 18th Century. The pub has had various work done recently to improve the pub inside and out, to provided a range of facilities for pleasure and business, ideal for groups to meet up. The pub was awarded the Rural Oscar for the Best British Pub 2023 by the countryside alliance. The pub is a traditional Shropshire pub and restaurant with excellent beer and a lovely beer garden.

Lovely pub that begged to be visited given the sign outside shown in the pic. Staff were really friendly and there was a great 'locally' atmosphere in the bar where I was served. The dropped star is for the real ale as I tried two of the three on offer and they weren't up to the same standard, being noticeably less fresh then at other nearby pubs. Didn't have any food, but the 5 stars are for it's local reputation, which is very strong indeed.

This was a lovely find. The menu was varied and interesting, but we all chose sunday lunch. I must say that although we ordered 2 small lunches and 1 large lunch, there didn't seem to be any difference in portion size. The meal was, however, delicious. Desserts were 2 out of 3, the churros were a little overdone, and the chocolate sauce was a little thin. I would definitely visit again, I noticed they did a very good special, 2 courses for £10.

I organised a group of 19 ladies to visit the White Lion yesterday for lunch from the Christmas menu. Shaun, the manager, was very easy to communicate with and understanding when I had to cancel a couple of places due to illness. We ate in the separate room at the back which was lovely and warm on a very cold day. It was just the right size for our party and it was great to have exclusive use of this room. The food was served quickly and efficiently and was superb. I can personally recommend the beef bourguignon as being delicious. Other ladies said the salmon and turkey were equally delicious. It was also very good value, as were the drinks. All 19 off us enjoyed our meal and will certainly be back another time.

Really enjoyed some eclectic hot, sweet, sour Asian flavoured, Med flavoured easy eating food here… ! Try a bowl of crispy coated, big & juicy Chicken strips on the side dish menu, Jalepeno Poppers.. for a bit of heat, crispy coated peppers stuffed with cream cheese, both great as a starter! Not out of the freezer...home made! Polynesian Prawns dish, tasty with decent sized prawns in a chilli spicy sauce with salad and chips. Tried the Greek styled Gyros with Chicken, also available with Beef or Halumi, served on a flat bread, a Greek salad and a few chips, its a great tasting plateful of food! I had that evenings special of Sea Bass fillet, new potato's, Charred Asparagus and a Hollandaise Sauce..but asked for a side of chilli to sprinkle over the top and they obliged.! Fish cooking was spot on. Another of our party had Teryaki Beef with noodles, there was nothing left on that plate! We saw proper home made Burgers going out and staples like Fish & Chips, there's something for everyone.! We ate in the stable outbuilding, at first i thought we would be forgotten about in this quaint back room, that is separate to the pub..i was wrong, excellent table service all night and the lovely waitress kept us well refreshed!! Its a very busy bar, but don't be put off, the beer is great and there is the stable outside that seats 30 people! Also an outside bbq & seating area with a log fire on the night we were there! In a nutshell..Good hospitality. Great flavoursome food. North South East West.. it’s here, all home made and expertly cooked, quirky, tasty, well spiced and Jalepeno hot. Something for everyone.!! Proper home made cooking .. treat yourself to some great tasty food. Well done Shaun & the gang.

Went here under advice from Doggie Pubs app and was delighted to see the welcoming sign at the side of the road, boasting of a warm welcome to this community pub. However, we parked up, found a seat in the beer garden and was told by a passing waiter that we couldn't be served unless we were part of the Wake party that they were expecting. We were later told that they didn't open to the gen public until 4pm, which is confirmed here on Google. so why have the sign on the main road highlighting the pub? I suspect this pub warrants the score it receives in other reviews, but please take down the chalkboard if you're not open.
