The White Horse in East Riding of Yorkshire

Booked lunch with a friend, but realised that dogs were not allowed inside. Luckily it was a pleasant day and we sat at a picnic table in the garden. My prawn sandwich was really good, with plenty of prawns, separate pot of sauce, coleslaw and generous salad garnish. My friend has dietary issues and asked for the prawns as a salad. There was nothing exceptionable on the menu for vegan or vegetarian choices. The prices were reasonable, but the pub being very quiet and us being forced to eat outside, I could not comment on the atmosphere. I believe it gets busy in the evening.

Just popped in for a quick drink on the way home. Lovely old pub great service. Loved the old photos on the wall of the village, and really interesting to look at. It was quiet on a Wednesday afternoon. We need to support these Village pubs 😃

We have just returned from Bempton and used The White Horse pub to eat every night.Theres a large vegetarian selection as well as the pub favourites. They take into consideration your dietary needs and made a lovely ham salad for me one night. The pie is well worth a try,with new potatoes and veg, that wasn't over cooked. My husband had vegetarian lasagne, it was very cheesy and delicious. The beer is well kept and they do avery nice cider. It's under new management and if they keep up with the excellent service and fabulous tasty food I don't think they can't go wrong. We wish them luck and will be back soon.

Very ordinary pub food, the fish was good ,the chips were not very good. They were unable to fulfil our party's dessert order.

Beer was cold, the fish & chips good and service was friendly. Would come again.

Lovely staff and a great pub meal

Although the pub is under new management the food is still beautiful, and at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food cooked by the chef is perfect and has a varied selection. We will return.

Acabamos de almorzar el domingo en The White Horse en Bempton después de ir a ver los Puffins en los acantilados. Solo habíamos reservado el día anterior y no conocíamos el pub, así que nuestras expectativas eran simplemente alimentarnos después del paseo. Bueno, puedo decirte, por favor vete. El almuerzo era realmente delicioso con un montón de verduras frescas, 2 tipos de ollas y Yorkshire con la carne de res (algunos de nuestra fiesta de 6 tenía cerdo con relleno, también delicioso). Uno de los nuestros tenía el rabo de cordero, otro tenía el curry y un goujon para niños, todos preciosos y buenos tamaños de porciones. El personal era muy agradable y muy eficiente, la comida llegó en poco tiempo. Los pudines, todo lo que puedo decir es abundante y delicioso. Sin duda volveremos y si vas al sitio RSPB en Bempton para ver las aves y necesita una comida por favor vaya a El Caballo Blanco. Estamos perdiendo muchos de nuestros pubs tradicionales y este es genial.

Tuvimos tres deliciosas cenas. Bien - comida cocinada, porciones abundantes y personal amable. Buena idea reservar ya que, como era de esperar, se ponen ocupados!

We recently visited this pub as a family, and from start to finish, the experience was fantastic. Despite booking at the last minute, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us — a much-appreciated gesture that set a positive tone for the evening. The food itself was easily some of the best classic pub grub we’ve had in years. Every dish was spot on — hearty, flavorful, and cooked just right. Whether it was a perfectly crisped scampi and chips, a rich and satisfying steak and ale pie, or huge gammon steak with an incredible side salad, everyone left full and happy. The portions were incredibly generous too, so definitely come with an appetite! Somehow we even managed the amazing desserts! It’s rare to find a place that nails both the service and the food like this one did. We’ll absolutely be back — and next time, we’ll book earlier!

First visit, Sunday lunch. Excellent roast pork followed by the best eton mess cheesecake for me (lemon merengue for Mrs F). Such a friendly place, lovely staff and thankfully no dogs, we will be back!

Lovely welcome from staff, even though they were really busy. The managed to fit us in and our vegetarian meals were delicious. Staff working well as a team and this helped to create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Thank you!

Called in on a Tuesday evening. Not very busy. Booked a table for 4 for 6pm. Great service, great food. Fish and chips were lovely, steak pie just perfect. Staff were brilliant, very welcoming. Good service. Would recommend thus little gem. So friendly.

Whenever we are in the area, we look forward to visiting the White Horse. The food is a step up from the typical pub fare. All freshly cooked on site. The dining room, and indeed the whole pub, has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I went for mushroom stroganoff for a main, which was piping hot, delicious and creamy with a side order of boiled rice. I promised myself I would be good and not have a dessert unless lemon meringue pie was on the menu. Which it was, so I had to have some. That was also very tasty. Since moving to the area, the White Horse has become our "local". It's worth flagging up the weekly Tuesday Quiz. It's very popular and a good excuse to get together for a few laughs and some lighthearted banter!

We arrived for a drink and realised we were ten minutes too late for food. The wife mentioned it and the bar staff said they would ask the question. They said not a problem and then produced 3 lovely meals. If it wasn’t 2 hours drive I would be back next weekend.

The pork sunday lunch was excellent. There was even some crispy pork scratching. My husband had a meaty steak pie, his favourite meal at the white horse. Staff were friendly and professional. We will be going back. Thank you

First rate meal and a first rate service.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely beautiful. My partner had scampi, haddock and chips and said it was amazing. The gluten free chicken goujons and chip's were delicious. Would be great to add gluten free fish and chips as its very rare to find somewhere that does that but everyone loves fish and chips so would be a great hit. A couple of gluten free bottled drinks was a great addition :)

Found on tripadvisor and very impressed. Went for the haddock and scampi just perfect big portion and top quality presentation. Very friendly staff and highly recommend.

Lovely food including gluten free. Great service and will definitely return Bob on the next table recommended the pie or fish and chips, I chose the pie which was lovely. My husband is celiac, he would have loved gf fish and chips (maybe a recommendation for next time) but the gf chicken goujons n chips were perfect thanks

Took my parents on Mother's Day for a Sunday lunch, everything was perfect from start to finish. Was greeted by a charming gentleman behind the bar who served us our drinks. Both the lager and the real ale were spot on. We then got shown to our table where our order was taken, 2 of us ordering the roast beef and one the roast pork. The food came out promptly which was great as we were all hungry! The portions were generous and the quality was excellent. We were asked by the waitress if everything was OK and even the chef asked if everything was OK when he came out of the kitchen. Had the chocolate brownie and ice cream for desert, simply divine. To top the visit off my mother was given a bunch of daffodils, a lovely touch I thought. Will defiantly visit again.

A brilliant night once again with friends. Five of us all ordering different meals and they were all lovely. I can highly recommend the chicken stir fry with sweet and sour sauce. This was on the specials board and it was delicious. The staff were very attentive and friendly as always. I can highly recommend The White Horse as the best place to eat if you want a good meal that is well presented with plenty on your plate and at a reasonable price. Can’t wait to be back again soon.

Lovely Valentine's Night meal. Warm and friendly welcome, great service, cosy atmosphere, great food and drinks. There is so much choice on the menu and the meals are such good value for money. One of our favourite and regular places to eat. Can highly recommend.

Food was nice however too much veg. Not much choice on the menu Was made to feel uncomfortable ie cleaning the kitchen whilst we eat don’t appreciate cleaning smells whilst eating. We did book in advance so if they didn’t want to take the booking then they shouldn’t have accepted the booking. I appreciate that it is winter and out of season. The food that we had and drinks were average and a fair price. Just didn’t feel we were welcome.

It's a lovely pub with great food & a very friendly atmosphere. Moved up to Bempton recently & have used the White Horse on numerous occasions, give it a try you won't be disappointed.

This is a lovely local pub. We called in a few times whilst on holiday. The staff are welcoming and friendly. There is a good choice of food and a good Sunday lunch ,it's not a Carvery and you can have the smaller plate option. I really enjoyed Chickpea, sweet-potato and spinach curry. They have a good choice of beer's wine etc and at a reasonable price. We'll worth visiting if in the area.

Nice place, enjoyed the evening. Shame the proprietor isn't around for customer chats. Sadly and very surprisingly this pub does not allow dogs. So therefore my family and others in the village have to travel elsewhere where dogs are catered for. It is in an area that has tourism, dog walkers and lovely areas to visit. Its a very quiet pub and could be made more convivial, busy and a better atmosphere if dogs were allowed as in most other pubs in the area.

Very good but as I was feeling poorly, could not enjoy it as much as I usually do.

This is a traditional pub, offerering friendly and inviting service, they couldn't be more helpful. The choice of food was really good and a good variety for all the family. The food arrived within a good time was well presented and hot.The food was reasonably priced.We were looked after the whole time and paying was easy at the bar afternwards and there was no pressure on time.would highly recommend

Arrived at 5pm without a reservation. Staff are pleasant & food enjoyable. Seemed to be getting busy by time we left. Probably best to make reservations. Gammon was very good. Lamb shanks would be better with a choice of mash.

Been visiting Flamborough for 15 year and myself, my wife and 3 children decided to visit the White Horse this evening 14th April 2023 for the first time. We usually visit either the Martonian, the Viking, or the North Star which are all really lovely, however this place blows them all out of the water. All home made, piping hot, super tasty, top quality food. Without sounding like a know it all I like to consider myself a good judge of food. I know it’s personal taste but I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who I know. You will not be disappointed. If you love steak pie, then my advice is to try it! The best I’ve ever tasted! Thank you to the chef and staff who were fantastic. Lovely clean premises with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be back! See you this Sunday for Sunday lunch!

Update..check opening hours before going, they have changed. Beautifully cooked, well presented food. Pre book re covid rules. Felt safe eating here. Plenty of filling food, try leave room for a delicious dessert, great value for money. Clean, good service....cooked to order so expect a little wait...it's not a fast food outlet but a dining experience. Usually wait 15 minutes or less after ordering. Expect longer on busy periods...bank holidays etc. I would definitely go again and if you are vegan or vegetarian...look at the menu..plenty of choices. Different menu on a Sunday..... I don't think they are open on a Monday during Winter...pre book essential.

The area inside is clean, The Staff are welcoming. Easy Accessible for those hard of walking. The food as you see in the pictures was lovely, of a very good standard. The downside was there were a couple of things they didn't have on the menu. The portion sizes on your main meal such as the pies were a little small and the price against this doesn't match the portion size.

Food was appalling, wouldn’t even give them 1 star. The Sunday dinners were cold, tasteless and the size of a kids meal. One Sunday dinner was ordered without the veg and got two really thin slices of beef and a Yorkshire pudding. Nothing else. Cold food left Grease in your mouth which tasted horrible. Staff didn’t care what we thought and was rude. Would definitely not return and I’ll be sure to spread to work of how bad it was. Not the best when it was for a special birthday too. Spoilt the experience for us. Disappointed to say the least and the meals was very expensive for something that looked and tasted like a cheap school dinner. The people who have wrote reviews on here about how good value it is must be eating absolutely terrible food at home.
