Had a burger and chips in the bar/restaurant and it was delicious. I'd especially like to emphasize how high quality the meat in the burger tasted. It tasted far above your average burger. Staff were polite and helpful. Dessert was an Oreo sundae and it was fantastic. It had crushed Oreos with the ice cream. Only a discrete complaint; it was quite noisy but there's not much the staff can do to be fair. Good price too. Recommend it for sure.

We had dinner at The Whistledown to celebrate my birthday. Though it wasn’t a significant birthday, the table was beautifully decorated with a delicate array of flowers down the centre and a beautiful table cloth. The position of the table was overlooking the ocean. What a perfect start to my birthday meal. I gave the Whistledown some challenge as I have a gluten and dairy intolerance and I don’t eat meat. My dietary restrictions were met with ease. The food, all three courses were delicious. Beautifully and attractively presented and served by very competent staff. The other people with me were equally thrilled with their dishes. After the meal we sat at the table over looking the ocean. I spent most of my professional life at senior level in Global corporations. I know what good service looks like and our experience that night was one of high quality food and service excellence. The order was flawlessly taken, delivered timely and everything about the food was delicious. The staff are very well trained and are courteous and delightful. In basic language they are a happy well trained team. The leaders of the team walk the floor and there was an atmosphere of calm and enjoyment. Though the restaurant was full to capacity, we never felt rushed. This was not a one off service high quality evening. We also celebrated American Thanksgiving with quite a large group of people and we took over a private room. The meal was the full American Thanksgiving meal as in the US. And wow! The Whistledown once again excelled at every level. An awesome evening. The food and decor was indeed five star. Thank you all in the Whistledown especially, Sarah, Colum, Bernie and staff. You are Five Star. And we will be back!

The Whistledown is my go to spot for catch-ups with friends / family or a special treat. I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in it in all the years I’ve been going there! From the friendly staff, fabulous decor and extensive menus (not to mention fabulous views over Carlingford Lough,) this place is a real gem! Credit where it’s due to all the staff in what are exceptionally tough times in hospitality👌🏻.

We were recommended this bistro. Plus points...very pleasant staff and nice cool Guiness and efficient service. But not great to walk in past tons of cleaning stuff. And veg curry was so salty I was close to sending it back. I don't expect great curries outside indian restos but this honestly reminded me of pour over jars of sauce in the 70s. If it was lovingly made on the premises, apologies to the chef.

Waitresses and waiters, didn't know that you'd already ordered. One older waitress seemed very under pressure and barked at me when I caught her attention to ask for the bill, I almost apologised to her! The prawn salad starter was brought on a roasting hot plate, with the butter for the wheaten bread in liquid form. The decor is so sickly and clashing colours with artificial sick flowers. So Blackpool! The room and bed were beautiful and comfy. Pity! The entertainment was laughable only I wasn't laughing. Still I had a wonderful nights sleep, in a lovely big room with my spouse!.

Decided last minute to go for lunch in Warrenpoint. The Hotel had a large Wedding arriving but despite this we were made feel like we were the only people there. We were given a wonderful table by the window with great views over Carlingford Lough. We had 3 courses and it was great from start to finish. Without going into too much detail I just wanted to say that I have eaten in plenty of Mitchelin Star restaurants around the world but the Medallions of Beef Fillet served here in the Whistledown are super and wont disappoint. My other half had the SurfnTurf and was also delighted with the food.Looking forward to going back again soon.Khris

I ordered the veggie loaded fries (which I was impressed to see on a limited menu) was even more impressed that they came with jackfruit!! And tobacco onions and slaw. Very creative combo. Unfortunately though there was coriander with it which wasn't stated on the menu, and I had to ask for a replacement as I can eat almost anything but coriander. Though this is not a complaint, I'm reviewing because of the staffs handling of the mix up they were super accommodating and friendly. And in their defence, apparently the coriander was listed on the former version of the menu (recently updated). These things happen! They got me a new meal with red cabbage slaw on the side (no coriander) and it was delicious!! I will definitely be back for the same again!

Terrible service from the minute we arrived, even spilt our drinks over the table & took a long time to clean it up with little to no apology. Most staff really hadn’t a clue what they were supposed to be doing, the quality of food was not good either with 2 dishes having to be sent back! The carbonara came out with runny watery type sauce & the curry wasn’t much better & as for the children’s curry it was far too hot for any child to eat. The decoration in the place oh my god fake flowers everywhere, dust collectors!! Yuk! The toilets also were not the cleanest. Will definitely not be back.

Right on the seafront at Warrenpoint - the bistro offers both inside and outside dining. Staff are lovely - are fast and efficient and accommodating. The menu is varied - a la carte as well as a lunch menu. We had the salmon with a chorizo topping on a bed of nicely cooked vegetables including potatoes, broccoli and beans with a mushroom veloutè served in a side dish. We came away well satisfied and will certainly return. Everything very clean - including the loos!!

Visited recently & had a meal outside. Food was lovely & service was friendly & efficient. However there was absolutely no cleaning of tables between customers .Surely this is one of the most important issues regarding trying to stop this horrible virus. Visited Whistledown with my sister and two granchildren on a blustery Wednesday...We had a table booked for 4pm but as playpark was closed and rain pouring down we asked at 3.50pm could we come in.. No problem we were told go straight to your table upstairs its ready....I have two type 1 insulin dependent grandchildren whom I had informed the Whistledown beforehand...anyway I requested that their meal be sorted out before ours.... 47 seconds later they appeared...before I could even give kids insulin!!! I do time things because of this... then staff demanded sister and I ordered ...our food was out again within 1 minute. However it was all dreadful obviously pre cooked and stuck back into a fryer horrible horrendous and an absolute disgrace ..My grandkids could not eat the chips as they were burnt to a crisp. I asked for an other chip but they came out 30 seconds later even more burnt.... we have been going to Whistledown for years but will be a long time before we are back. And upstairs toilets not even working. Awful

We dropped in for lunch on a beautiful summer day. We didn’t need a reservation and although the place was busy, we got a table, upstairs, with a view. The view was the best part, because the food was nothing but forgettable. Between 4 of us we had 4 different mains and a couple of starters, not one to mention as none particularly nice. The service was fine and quite friendly. We still had a lovely time because on a beautiful day it is hard to beat the view overlooking the bay.

Great quality food! Went here over valentines weekend and although busy service was excellent. I went for duck spring rolls for starter, they were crispy and well filled, would definitely recommend!Had sirloin steak and chips for main, steak was cooked perfectly and was great quality. Would recommended the chiefs special sauce - twist on diane sauce with bacon, mushroom, taragon! However steak does not come with any sides (apart from chips/mash). No veg or onion rings apart from a few pickled onions.. so make sure to order an extra side if you want some veg. Dessert we went for the warm chocolate brownie sundae and it was amazing!! The staff were faultless, Sean was our server and we got plenty of attention with out being invasive. The food was superb, hot tasty and full of flavour. Chips were crispy outside and fluffy inside. We were talking so much that we didn't notice the time but no one bothered us or made us aware of the time though we were the last to leave. We stayed at the Whistledown Hotel and thought we would try the bistro on our first night. Our previous experience of hotel restaurants meant our expectations were not high. What a lovely surprise we had! The food was great - good quality, excellently cooked. The portions were generous and the staff serving us were delightful. We had such a good experience that we also ate there on our second night and had an equally good time. There was a large group in the restaurant on the first night and a function downstairs on the second night but they did not affect at all the service we received. Impressive!

I love going to the whistledown, the food is always great. Only issue I have is food being served on a piece of wood. I always have to ask for a plate. I dont understand why places serve food on a piece of timber, its very unhygienic and a nuisance to eat. Also your stairway bannisters are extremely sticky every single time I go to the restaurant, they need to be cleaned regularly. Food and staff are great though!

I only remember to review a restaurant when it really deserves it, and this is no exception. We stopped off here for lunch during a scenic drive. Apart from easy parking and an amazing playpark just next door which the baby loved, we sat out the front and were attended to promptly. The staff are smart and courteous, everything was served perfectly and each dish was delicious: Sea bass, cod coujons, burger. Hands down the best eating experience we had during our trip. That combined with a lovely full view of Carlingford Lough. We definitely recommend it!

Having visited this restaurant in a number of occasions I had expected the food and service to be good though unfortunately on this visit I have to say that quality of both has fallen considerably. The meal (steak) was tough and tasteless and the staff seemed rushed and pressured by who I assume is the manageress. The decor is now looking very outdated and tacky and the place could really do with a proper clean (dirty seats). Once again the downstairs bar was woefully understaffed, messy and quite cold. It’s obviously very difficult to cook chips in the Whistledown. We had a portion of skinny fries (kids meal) and chunky chips (adult meal) both uncooked. Skinny fries were anemic and chunky chips raw. £2.95 for two scoops of the worst ice-cream (no excuse with Genoa; Morellis, Mauds, Glastry on your doorstep) and two broken Oreos. Wow some margins there. I definitely won’t eat here again.

Myself and my partner had a lovely walk around Rostrevor and Warren point and had worked up an appetite. We walked into the main entrance and it was very unclear what type of service was on offer, do we stand and wait to be seated? Or do we sit down and order at the bar? Or sit down and receive table service? Regardless of this we stood with the loom of fierce hi ger on our faces and unfortunately no staff were available. The bar man was concentrating on his task and didn't seem to have the time to receive or acknowledge our attention. We then decided to look around the corner were there seemed to be more tables and hopefully more staff, there wasn't, there was however a door and we simply walked out of the premises. I've heard lots of great reviews about the place and it was unfortunate that nobody acknowledged our presence or was available to help and as a result we are elsewhere

Went for Sunday lunch. My partner ordered roast beef and I ordered chicken curry. After a few mouthfuls my partner asked me to taste the beef as he thought it tasted strange. The only way I can describe it was it smelt and tasted of very strong cheese. I asked for them to change it to something else as it was most definitely off. It was changed to lamb which was ok but the beef had been very off putting and I was eating my chicken wondering if it was off too. Waiting staff were very good but overall appearance of upstairs was quite run down particularly the dirty upholstery. Could do with a bit of refurbishment. Charged for everything on bill. Half thought they wouldn’t have charged for the drinks as a gesture of goodwill but no. Afraid we won’t be back ☹️

Visited for a group meal. The upstairs restaurant is large, a bit on the bling side, and the staff in the restaurant are plentiful and helpful. On this visit however the downstairs bar was woefully under staffed and it took a considerable amount of time to procure drinks for the group before our table was ready. The menu is large with a lot of choice, including European and oriental dishes, and many starters and desserts which should suit everyone. Sizzling beef stir fry was tasty and plentiful. The rest of the group ordered steak, chicken and fish dishes and nobody had any complaints about either the food or the table service. The desserts were tasty and portion sizes good. The prices were reasonable too. It’s a busy place on the weekends both in the restaurant and the bar with live music most Saturday evenings. The carrots tasted as if they had been sitting out for too long. The other starter was chicken wings - they were OK. Both the main courses were disappointing. Huge lumps of cartridge in every single rib. Vegetarian fajitas....wraps were cold, the flavour was bland the variety of vegetables was minimal. The bistro menu is served nightly from 5.30 pm – 9.30 pm with bar snacks available from 12 pm – 5 pm and we have eaten from both menus . The menu is varied and will appeal to all palates. I had the Steak Fajita which is served to your table on a sizzling hot platter with onions and sliced bell peppers along with sour cream, tomato salsa and warm flour tortillas. It was gorgeous, i will be having this when i return. My daughter had the Chicken, Mushroom and Bacon Crêpe, which came served with garlic diced potato. The portion sizes are big and she couldn't finish it. The staff are attentive, nothing is too much trouble for them. We took our coffee outside as the hotel is looking straight onto Carlingford Lough and the Mountains of Mourne. A perfect setting for a wonderful meal.

What better way to find refuge from the wind whipping off Carlingford Lough on a mid February day, than to spend a couple of hours in The Whistledown. Whilst my wife and I have been here on many occasions we have always loved it. Finally, I thought it was time for a review. Once again we were not disappointed. The staff, Sean in particular was most welcoming and helpful. Despite there not being many people in the restaurant (it was after 2pm) the ambience was still relaxing. So much choice from the main and special menus. We both ordered the Peppered steak pie with creamy mash and winter vegetables. Perfect choice on a chilly day. We shared a dessert of mint aero cheesecake which was plenty given the size of it! Our meal was rounded off with strong filter coffee to warm us up as we prepared for a bracing walk. All in all it was a delightful interlude and well done Whistledown once again!

The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is very good!! Lovely chicken and sweetcorn soup, although the crusty bread was definitely NOT crusty! However, it didn't spoil the lunch! The coconut and jam sponge with custard and ice cream was divine!! Hot sponge, warm custard and cold icecream is an amazing combination!

Went for my birthday lunch with my mum and aunt. Food was delicious, had the chicken fajitas. Very generous portion sizes. I was allowed to order the fajitas even though they were not on the menu at that particular time as it was the bar menu, David let us order them anyway which was great. David made a lovely strawberry daiquiri for me for my birthday. My mum and aunt really enjoyed their food too. Ordered a desert and it came out with a sparkler for my birthday, this made it special. Always excellent food and service here!

Try the strawberry daiquiris priced at £5.50 each. Well worth it.Love the Whistledown. It is my favourite place to dine and have a night out. Highly recommend it ☺

My partner and I decided to dine at the hotel bistro. We had Pil Pil prawns (approx 9) and chicken liver pate for starters, both fabulous and big portions! I had sea bass and my partner had Fish & chip for mains, equally as nice! Too full for dessert.

My partner and I visited this place to meet up with friends for lunch. Firstly, the Christmas decorations are just awesome and probably the best decorations I have ever seen for a pub/hotel/restaurant. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food excellent in both quality and quantity. The bill was very reasonable to. We will definitely go back there again and would highly recommend the Bistro to others

First time back in about 4 years... from the first drink in the classy bottom bar I'm wondering why it's been so long since I've been back.. probably because I live 6 mile away and the taxi thing tbh... but, the service and meal was superb!! Went for the mixed starter for 2... perfect! Then the seafood pasta, which I never go for, was excellent! The desert my wife got was good.. not brilliant.. apple crumble, but not up to the rest of the meals standard tbh. All in all, the service was excellent, and overall experience superb.

The Bistro has a gluten free menu which is vey easy to order from. I didn't realise that they had put olives in the bolognaise sauce and I don't like olives. Otherwise the menu is varied and they have gluten free bread.

The Whistledown presents food perfectly. Tasty prawn pils pils with fresh crusty bread went down a treat. My husband had the chicken curry he said it was just alright. He had the vegetarian curry the last time and it was delicious. The waiter was very efficient and pleasant. The decor and lighting is not to my taste. I felt like I was in a scene from Twin Peaks. This would not put me off going back... it is definitely worth a visit. We have visited this restaurant before and the food was delicious. Fellow travellers this restaurant should be on your bucket list if you visit Warrenpoint.

We decided to visit Warrenpoint for a weekend trip.Ive been past the Whistledown Hotel many times on the way through town but never called in.Having been suggested by a friend we decided to try it out for sunday lunch. As it was a lovely sunny sunday the Whistledown was very busy but the staff were very helpful and accomodating in finding us a table in the bistro. The menu was very impressive and had a good variety of different options starters, mains, deserts. Our party had all three courses and we were very impressed with the excellent service and overall taste of the food served. So i will definately visit the Whistledown again and can recommend it to any other fellow trip advisors who happen to visit Warrenpoint on the Mourne costal trail.Well done Whistledown keep up the excellent work.

Super expensive food & ice cream, super small portions. Chips 4.2 minute curry sauce 2 . The food is quite good but the prices & portions are ridiculous £6.20 for a chip with curry sauce £12 for fish and chip. Staff are always pleasant

Terrible service and waiting time. Order over phone at 12.50, walked over at lunchtime 1pm and waited a further 15 minutes on 2 mixed chips.

Service was the worst at our stay in the hotel, staff were asked twice on drink order took 45 minutes also our friend found a hair in her chicken curry which puts a question of the hygiene rate in the kitchen, also staff didn’t know anything about the menu and staff weren’t informed on what was on the menu. The food we had was lovely and the atmosphere was perfectly fine. Credits to the lady with the ginger hair she done everything we had asked her and knew her job role very well The hair in the food problem was resolved with a discount much appreciated but still believe regulations need to be made.

Lovely food and great for families. The menu is traditional Irish food, really tasty. Potential for entertainment with music, and can book for large gatherings.
