Popped up in for soup and a sandwich after a trip to St Cyrus beach. Wish we'd discovered this gem sooner! Love the old railway and the cafe itself is full of character. Loved the warm welcome, friendly quick service, good food and wander around the station afterwards. Thank you!

We all loved this coffee shop when we visited on Easter Sunday. We were in Brechin for the Easter steam train journey. We were able to book a table in advance and were welcomed when we arrived. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The service was outstanding as was the food. We are back in July for the Thomas the Tank day and will definitely book again! Thank you 😊

Sandwich was spot on, but the cake was even better. Lovely atmosphere with friendly service - and the fire kept me toasty warm.

Such an atmospheric place to visit, in the surroundings of the beautiful railway station terminus of the Caledonian Railway. The service was wonderful with quick, attentive staff, who are both friendly and welcoming. I had the fish platter and my wife a cheese toasty. Both were promptly served and were delicious. I noticed that many customers were enjoying their homemade soup, with a chunk of crusty bread. There was also a vast array of homemade cakes, of which I had a slice of coffee cake. All in all a pleasurable experience over far to soon. Also, don’t forget to look around the atmospheric Brechin station platforms, which are restored to a high standard.

Dropped in without booking on Wednesday lunchtime. Cafe was busy and a friendly welcome was appreciated. The menu is not extensive but everything we saw coming out looked good and appeared to be well received from mainly local patrons. We elected for the soup and sandwich option. The potato and leek soup arrived within minutes of ordering and it was piping hot and very tasty. I had chosen a brie, bacon and cranberry toastie to accompany the soup which was again served hot and well filled. With coffee and home made scones to follow our meal, we left feeling very satisfied in terms of food quality and quantity. Service was very friendly and value for money was impressive. We will certainly be back again.

Could not visit the railway as it was closed till Easter. The Tea Rooms was open. Located overlooking the platform, fabulous little place for an afternoon get together with family and friend. All staff are volunteers, so did not mind spending a few quid. Well worth a visit

As a railway "nerd" I primarily visited the site to see the wonderfully preserved station - the cafe was something of a surprise - but truly brilliant - good basic snacks served by very friendly staff at very reasonable prices - and you can sit outside on the station platform. A great treat - even if you are not in to railways!!

This was our first visit to The Whistle Stop at the old railway station in Brechin. Was a beautiful sunny, warm day We were given the choice of table in the cafe or on the platform, which we opted for. Service was very fast and attentive. The food was good with a great selection of home made cakes and tray bakes. I had the Victoria sponge which was lovely. Will definitely return.

Lovely freshly made food served by charming people in an old railway station. I couldn’t ask for more (oh, and be sure to ask for the sausage rolls)

Reading all the review I was really looking forward to our visit here. The staff were friendly and the place clean and tidy. I wanted a hot quiche but was told there would be a 20 minute wait so we both had cock-a-leekie soup . There was chicken and bit of leek but this was a very thin plate of soup with no real substance the ratio of stock to the other ingredients was poor. I was also upset by the fact that they allow dogs in the cafe. There was one sitting with it's owner in the corner and it whined all the time we were there . The owner did not seem to be bothered by this .

On a holiday to Montrose and we sat in and ordered a fish supper, tasted lovely all freshly made. The best we have had in a long time. Would highly recommend the meal. Kai told us he is changing the name to Montrose fish and chips so look out for it on the High Street.

didnt stay at the rooms, dined in the restaurant. Small but very well decorated place - loved the bathrooms too. Tasting menu is absolutely amazing - the cauliflower veloute was the surprise standout of the evening. Haggis bon bons were also delicious! As was the salmon course. Everything was delicious! Great service too - Maria was a great host. Loved the little touch of leaving the tasting menu near your table so you could follow it. Hope to be back next time we are up in Scotland.
