The Wheatsheaf Inn in South Ayrshire

My husband and I were made to feel welcome on arrival, great service, I had Smoked haddock gratin with creamy leek and cheddar with mash it was delicious and very fresh, and my husband had beef stroganoff with rice and a side of chips also delicious and the meat . was so tender. We finished off the meal with apple crumble and warm custard and a latte meal was 10/10 highly reccomend .

Have always enjoyed going here for a meal. Staff are very friendly. And nearly always have apple crumble and custard for a carry out after the main meal. I think I have been through the entire menu in years gone by 😆👍

Unexpected watering hole, nice food, good service but we were the only patrons in that part of the pub, so can't really comment on atmosphere

Great place to eat very homely feel about it, got the steak pie & it was really tasty, my wife got the Cajun chicken & loved it, good portions aswell, would definitely return, only fault I'd have would be lack of music, very off-putting when all your hear is people banging plates & noisy eaters 🤣 so I'd definitely recommend background music

Was there for lunch and the food was amazing. Not much of an atmosphere but it was quiet and lunchtime, but really nice, friendly place.

This is a gem of a place. Been a few times now and food is consistently good and home made, service is efficient and friendly. A few times I have been in it has been quiet so more people need to know about it, or maybe it's just the times I have been have been nearer end of Service. Highly recommend here for a lunch or dinner.

1st rate food and friendly service. Something on the menu for every appetite. The only problem you'll have is deciding what to choose. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed.

Really surprised by the five-star reviews, had some of the worst food I’ve ever had in Ayrshire here. Would not return.

Nice enough place. Just had 2 starters. but expensive for what you get. £6.95 for a coffee cup of vegetable soup with half a slice of shop bought bread. £4.50 for a pint of Diet Coke. Service was ok and the dining area was clean. Just wouldn’t rush back though.

Excellent food, extensive menu, great surroundings and friendly staff. You need to go early in the evening as the kitchen staff seem to be in a hurry to go home. There were some very negative reviews earlier in the year. I'm not sure what might have happened (it was during the COVID restart period) but we have been twice in the last fours weeks and it has only been first rate.

Visited the Wheatsheaf inn on Sunday afternoon lovely setting prompt service myself and my girlfriend both had home made Lentil soup which was brilliant then my girlfriend had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding plenty of sides came with it and she said it was amazing meat really tender I myself had the slices of fillet beef with haggis again with plenty of sides it was also beautiful great service and very reasonable priced

1st time for my wife and I and I can promise we will be regular. The pub was lovely, staff very nice and the food was absolutely superb. Very well priced and the portions were more than ample.

Stopped off on our way to Glasgow. The pub itself has a warm welcoming atmosphere. The staff very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend to everyone

I work as a Scottish tour guide, I popped in for lunch with a party of six, made a reservation in advance. The guy serving didn't seem too interested, no conversation nothing. Food was good.

Very little choice for vegetarians but the scampi was delicious and the service was excellent

I've been coming here for over 22 years. It has a special meaning to me as my gran was born here, baptised, married and now buried in the churchyard. This was the house she grew up in and during the Second World War, she was evacuated back here along with my mum and my uncle. So many happy memories being here in the village and eating in her old house. The food is second to none and if I could give 11 stars I would.

Absolutely appalling service ....very bad attitude and very ordinary food The order was mixed up and when pointed out there was no apology or even explanation..the guy who appeared to be in charge was unwelcoming and wanders around with his hands on his pockets looking total uninterested........shockingly bad compared to how it used to be

Absolutely wonderful amazing food from starters through to desserts, staff were very well presented and knowledgeable about the menu ,prices were very reasonable ,I will highly recommend the lovely place to friends and family .

I was stuck at a wee table in the way of people walking past. My daughter was told the wrong kind of soup was on the menu, then brought her the wrong order! My scampi was burnt and almost unedable. Won't be back!

Good village pub with excellent meals and friendly staff, also has a good beer garden to sit out in a sunny evening. Only complaint is the price of soft drinks like £2.60 a can of Coke is a bit steep. Would still come back for future meals and general visit
