The Waterfoot Wine Bar in Derry

Huge disappointment, cold, small, bland meals that are over priced. We are a family of 6 and had phoned ahead to book our table. Service was extremely slow, but we weren't in a rush and happy to wait. I can't fault the polite girl who took our order but unfortunately our meals did come out different to what we ordered. The caesar salad advertised with chicken didn't arrive with any, it comprised of a few lettuce leaves, and few pieces of shredded ham,it was the smallest portion I've ever seen. The roast dinners mains arrived lukewarm. My son order a burger with cheese and bacon but got cheese and a mountain of tobacco onion instead, immediately I told the server who took my roast beef dinner because it was cold and my sons to ammend, by the time these 2 meals came back my husband had finished his lukewarm dinner, it wasn't hard because it was so small, and not a green veg in sight! The meat was of poor quality. My meal had obviously been popped in the microwave and my sons tobacco onions were removed and replaced with the same shredded ham they use on their caesar salads. Terrible from start to finish! Won't be back...

Was so looking forward to Sunday carvery after not having been for quite a while, firstly it was served at your table and not a carvery as advertised. We waited almost 25 minutes for our lunch after ordering and when it arrived although looking quite appetising it was almost stone cold, 5 mins in the microwave would not have went a miss. The sweet wasn't much warmer to be honest. Anyway it was very disappointing and we won't be rushing back which is a shame as it was a really nice place to eat but has gone down hill badly...

Bad experience, had family and friends of 28 people for husbands 70th but was not impressed!! Especially if you had ordered a roast dinner. Kept asking for gravy and vegetables but gravy eventually arrived as finished dinner. Vegetables were no existent, bowls of parsnips came. Yuck! For a 4 star hotel to run out of vegetables is a joke!! Then to give large bowls of chips instead is completely bizarre as nobody wanted them. Not a good compensation to give Prosecco with the birthday cake after drinking red wine a beer so most of it was not drunk!! Would not recommend

Ate here November 2023 a group of 4 friends. Awful experience from beginning to end with the most disappointing food. On arrival we were asked if we were looking to eat and a sense that they would rather we didn't. Not the best of starts. We were told to pick any table we wanted rather than shown to a table and then we waited for ages to have our order taken. I should say there were 5 other people in the restaurant and it was only 7.30. We went straight to mains two of us had chicken (more like a sparrow it was so small) and it came with just the escalope and the smallest bowl of chips you could get not another thing on the plate. I was still hungry when finished which didn't take long. I am sorry but for £17/18 a main course not good enough. The pasta dish others in our party had had more tobacco onions than anything all in all very poor excuse for restaurant food. The desserts were a bit better. We had to ask however to look at the dessert menu as we waited over a half hour with no one coming near us to check back if everything was okay or to take dishes away that were sitting for ages. I will not be back nor would I recommend. Very disappointing.

Booked for sunday carvery lunch which is advertised on website when arrived theres no carvery its a set menu. But unfortunately the food is terrible, very little portions, cold,and only half carrot, parsnip as your only vegetables and mostly was frozen previously, sent a email to suggest to update the website and email been sent to management but after waiting 10 days and no response is shocking. Avoid at all costs

Advertised as a carvary, but not actually a carvery. Minimal vegetables - half a carrot and half a parsnip and not a green vegetable in sight; one frozen, anaemic looking 'roast' potatoe on a bed of mash - this Sunday lunch was a huge let down. The lamb was fatty, and the entire meal was lukewarm, not hot. Not what we were expecting.

Reserved for a treat with my husband and really looking forward to it. Very disappointed. We booked a table for dinner and there was a band playing in the restaurant so couldn’t hear each other and the servers couldn’t hear us! Ordered drinks that didn’t arrive and was given a dessert menu, but nobody came to take our order! Same shambles with breakfast, was told they’d find us a table and didn’t, ordered coffee - again didn’t come. Would not recommend.

28 for a 3 course meal , steaks cold pasta bland full of whole peppercorns garlics cold pitta pocket no taste and cold really bad experience, poor response from the management had to ask twice for him to come to speak to us just poor all round , just like to say the lovely waitress serving us couldn't fault her

My friends, 2.children and I enjoyed a delicious afternoon.tea. Great value in a lovely quiet spot. We were very well attended by the helpful Max and Caoimhe. Definitely be back and .Will recommend to others 😍

My sister, myself and a friend visited The Waterfoot today 20th May. We had the most exquisite meal for lunch and gorgeous dessert. All portions were really generous and the presentation, taste and service were exceptional. The staff especially Martin who helped me so much both in and out of the Restaurant since I have to use a rollator as I am disabled. Erin who waited on our table was a ray of sunshine. I have a chronic cough. When I coughed she asked me if I would like some iced milk to help. I was grateful for her help and kindness. She immediately brought me some iced milk to help my condition. It is refreshing to find such a friendly, helpful staff in any Restaurant and fantastic food in a business. Well done The Waterfoot. So impressed I have book 5 people in for lunch tomorrow. Very disappointing. Food prob reheated. Service initially good but 20 min wait before WE asked for dessert. Soo slow we eventually asked for the dessert to go. Again slow, soo we ended up leaving without dessert we had paid for. Will not rush back.

We did the cocktail and meal deal and grace was 10/10 couldn’t get better! She was absolute delight so nice and funny!

We had the most beautiful meal a great choice of starters main course and deserts and also good value for money. But the most important thing about our night was the great attentive service of our restaurant server her name was Keva. She was not only very helpful, pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu she also made our night!!. Keva was a very happy pleasant person that made us feel so relaxed and comfortable, it was an added pleasure to be meet her and be served by her. Waterfoot should be so proud for their choice of staff when they welcomed Keva as a member as a professional member of staff. Will return again to the hotel not only for the food but to meet Keva again 👍👍 👍👍👍🌹

Visited the restaurant today for our annual Xmas lunch at the Waterfoot with my sisters and elderly mother and this has to be the worst experience we’ve ever had. Pre booked a booth as we usually do as mum has mobility and other issues.. the table was given away despite the staff confirming our booking and no apology or acknowledgment offered instead we were treated in a very patronising manner by Max. We were then seated near the wine fridge directly across from the front entrance which was very unsuitable given the cold weather (and why we pre book). Ordered cappuccino and an americano but informed that ‘there’s no coffee cups, would a teacup do’? Ordered 2 Irish coffee that arrived with no whiskey in them. Remade messily and arrived to the table with cream running down the sides of the glass and one mixed. My mother is 97 yrs old and days out with her as a family are very special to us and why this was such a disappointment today for us all.

Ended up in the waterfoot hotel for a quick pint to watch the football. Could speak highly enough of the place. Lovely rustic feel combined with extremely friendly staff. Grace looked after us amazingly. Shame about the result of the game but the service just about made up for it. Will come again. Best, Matt

This was the worst Carvery I have had, the starters were very poor no selection of meat just prawns or fish and cocktail sausages. Deserts were poor selections. I visited for a Santa Sunday and expected more for the money we paid.

Myself and my boyfriend visited the restaurant within the hotel yesterday and we had been a few times before and loved everything about it, this time was anything but, we arrived around 6.45pm and asked for a table for 2. We didn’t book we just walked in greeted and said no problem we will get a table set up for you have a seat at the bar.So we sat at the bar for around 15 minutes to be sat at a table that was empty from when we walked in, the table was along side the other side of the bar and was wonky and was very shakey. No salt or pepper on the table when we were seated, orders took and we decide to order a cocktail, my boyfriend ordered an old fashioned type cocktail his was lovely, I however ordered a strawberry daiquiri- pretty standard cocktail? Was disgusting, completely undrinkable, tasted like a sour yogurt far too much lime juice in it and my boyfriend tasted it he was in shock at how bad it was for it looked lovely, returned it to the bar right away and offered to remake it I said no chance and just swapped it for a Diet Coke.Starters came out my boyfriend had a duck leg and carrot purée I had the veg soup which was served with no soup spoon or butter for the wheaten, so had to find a staff member to get this took a wee minute and finally got a spoon and butter that was grand, moving on to mains my boyfriends steak was cold around the outside and the middle was just warm I said take it back but didn’t want to make a fuss. I had the panko goujons again wasn’t hot or while warm just about warm. Staff quickly put food down and went to run off but my boyfriend needed a fork to eat his dinner as he used his for his starter and I needed a knife as I used mine for my starter and was also looking butter for our mash so again had to leave our seats to find a member of staff as they didn’t wait long to hear our answer when they asked “ was that everything?” So I asked for a few butters to do the 2 of us and a young waiter came back with 1 butter and said “ one will do ye yeah?” And again before I could speak or say no could we have at least one more he was gone. So we had to make do with 1 as we weren’t leaving our seats again as our meal was already served not hot wasn’t leaving it to get any colder, we just ate the food unimpressed and I had to hold our glasses as my boyfriend cut his steak that’s how wobbly our table was like clearly they must of noticed that and didn’t even attempt to prop it up with anything. ( A friend of mine used to work high up in the hotel I mentioned this to her and she said that the table where we were seated has been like that for some time so there you go). Then waited a while for them to clear the table so we just went to leave as definitely didn’t want to order desert. So we went to the desk, paid the bill and tipped for we both use to work in hospitality so we know a thing or two but that just wasn’t up to scratch with the other visits we’ve had within the hotel just was a let down. Sorry for this type of review just felt disappointed with this visit.

Under new management. Great car parking, lovely reange of meals especially at lunch time, value for money, a la carte menu as well as carvery available on a Sunday. Staff are really pleasant and helpful. Great meeting place.

Excellent service from young pleasant staff - range of menus though I noticed some of the previous better meal deals had been removed. Food supplied good quality and sensible portions. Had been looking forward to trying the dinner menu here for the first time to celebrate my first Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend. As I also work in the industry this was a belated celebration. Had booked table for 7.30, was running late so had phoned ahead to let them know that we were still coming which they said was no problem (didn’t even ask what name booking was under). Arrived at the restaurant and were asked by whom I assume was the supervisor/manager if we needed a table for 2 and to take a seat at the bar, didn’t ask if we had booked. I had tried to tell we had been booked for 7.30 but she was already walking away so I’m not sure if she heard me. So we sat and had a drink at the bar thinking it wouldn’t be long til we were seated at our table as it had been booked and the restaurant didn’t seem overly busy. However, we were sat at the bar for a total of 40 mins with no one coming near us to tell us why wait was so long. Eventually got seated at 8.30pm on a table which in the whole time we’d been there hadn’t seen anyone at so was probably sitting ready. When our booking was for 7.30pm our table should have been ready when we got there, not a whole hour later!

We booked for 5 of us on the Saturday night but our friends had heard how good the food was that 4 of them joined us and the staff were so accommodating with our group. Fabulous food, great choices and even the kids had great choices too! Thank you

Realmente nos gustaron las alfombras nuevas y encontramos que los colores están muy de moda. Leona, miembro del personal (cabello rubio / castaño) Creo que ella puede ser una gerente / gerente de turnos que hizo todo lo posible para acomodarnos y darnos la bienvenida al restaurante. ¡Su conocimiento del menú fue fantástico y realmente nos ayudó a elegir nuestros cursos! 21 of us went to the Waterfoot last night for my son's 21st. We sat at the bar til all of our party arrived and were quickly served our drinks. Once everyone was there we were shown to our seats upstairs. Our table was on its own on the balcony bit overlooking the bar. Brilliant as we had 3 young children so they had room to move about. They took our order quickly and food came in nice time. The staff were constantly about to take drink orders too. Food was beautiful. All the staff that attended to us were friendly and definitely helped make our experience enjoyable.

We went for the raise the steaks offer. Great value, gorgeous fillet of steak. Brilliant service, thanks Cathy and Ciaran. Would highly recommend!!

Fuimos a este restaurante para cenar con la familia. Después de estar sentados, nos sentamos por más de 30 minutos y luego fui a hablar con un miembro del personal y pedimos que nos llevaran el pedido. Había 3 adultos y 1 niño. Esperamos unos 35 minutos más para nuestra comida. Cuando llegó, dos de los miembros del grupo tuvieron los lados equivocados que se cambiaron, pero faltaba parte del principal. Poco después de que nos pidieron nuestra comida estaba bien, pero se negó a mencionar esto ya que había otros comensales sentados cerca. Sin embargo, me quejé cuando estaba pagando la factura. Me dieron un 10% de descuento, pero eso no es suficiente. La comida era mediocre para decir lo menos. No es lo suficientemente bueno incluso para la factura reducida.

Mi esposo y yo comimos aquí recientemente el lunes 24 de septiembre y tuvimos una excelente comida con un servicio igualmente excelente. El restaurante ha sido renovado recientemente y el personal también parece ser nuevo. Acabamos de tener los platos principales del asado del día pavo y jamón con verduras y puré que estaban deliciosos y bien picados. El personal fue muy atento y profesional para comprobar si todo estaba bien. Bien hecho a todos esperando nuestra próxima visita

From the moment we walked into the recently renovated restaurant we were impressed and things only got better with the warm friendly local staff and the well priced menu that offered what turned out to be faultless tasty food. An experience without fault or criticism and we will definitely be back when next in Londonderry

We had a family 3 course Sunday lunch. OK value for money however disappointing quality of food. Overall quality of ingredients not high. Prawns in starter poor and turkey on the main not great. Nice, friendly staff however. Unlikely to return.

Fuimos recibidos y asignados a nuestras habitaciones tres de ellos, nuestro grupo de seis estaba buscando cena, fuimos al bar / restaurante y preguntamos si estaría bien si tuviéramos una comida en el bar, ya que estábamos cansados ​​y solo queríamos algo para mantenernos hasta la mañana. Ambiente y comida encantadora a un precio muy razonable 18 por 3 campos! El personal es muy atento y muy rápidamente se detuvo en una mesa extra ya que teníamos 4 huéspedes adicionales. Una buena variedad de entrantes, Ckn y merluza eran deliciosos, el bolsillo con pitta de ternera con especias era un poco demasiado picante para algunos en nuestro grupo, una deliciosa selección de postres también

Después de que llevaron a nuestra mesa y conseguir nuestras bebidas esperamos 30 minutos antes de que alguien se acercó a tomar nuestro pedido. La comida en sí estaba bien, 3 campos por 15 libras podía quejar. Mi problema era con el servicio otros 35 minutos para limpiar la mesa después de que habíamos terminado y otro tanto esperar 20 minutos para pedir postres simplemente no era lo suficientemente bueno. Estamos malacostumbrados en Derry con algunos excelentes establecimientos para comer es que no volveremos a cualquier momento pronto.

Would eat here most nights whilst I stayed on business. Always had a good meal and always left satisfied, staff are very friendly and always on hand! Overall very good indeed!

Had dinner here with family recently on two occasions. The food is wonderful. Fantastic atmosphere. A varied menu with plenty to chose from. The vegetarian menu is quite extensive. We will be back.

The food in the Waterfoot Hotel never fails to impress. The menu is varied, reasonably priced and the staff are attentive.

Booked for lunch on Christmas Eve with my mother and husband. My mother ordered off the Christmas lunch menu and my husband and I off the regular lunch menu. On ordering my mother ordered both her main course and a dessert and my husband did the same from the regular menu. On asking what desserts were available my husband was informed that it was only the trio that was on the Christmas menu but we later saw other guests being served other desserts. Our main course arrived reasonably quickly but we then had to ask twice for the potato and vegetables to accompany my mother's lunch which only arrived when she was midway through her meat. The first staff member we asked appeared to relay the information to the kitchen but then did not follow up on it. On finishing our main courses we then waited too long for our table to becleared for ddessert despite a number of staff walking past us several times. The food itself was lovely and I would definitely return but only if I could be assured of similar quality service. However although there appeared to be more than enough staff on duty to cope with the number of diners there appeared to be a lack of control or coordination by a restaurant manager with staff seeming to be unsure of what they should be doing and instead looking as if they were wandering aimlessly around the restaurant floor

I visited the Waterfoot yesterday with some family. I eat here regularly and while the service is always pretty poor, the food is usually good. Yesterday was a different story! We arrived at the hotel shortly after 5pm, the area where we pay your bill was busy so we stood for a few minutes waiting for someone to serve us. Eventually after standing for 5+ minutes, the girl at the till asked us to sit in the waiting area! We moved across to the waiting area and sat there for at least 10 minutes, she never came over and advised us that we would have to wait for a table, the restaurant area did not seem that busy and there were vacant tables. I got up after 10 minutes and went back over to the till area and asked her would we have to wait for long. She answered me quite abruptly.. 5 minutes tops! I went back over to the waiting area and after 3 minutes or so I younger staff member came over to the waiting area and said they had a table ready for us. We waited about 10 minutes to order despite 5 staff members standing around the bar chatting and apparently ignoring the customers that were waiting to order! Eventually a guy took our order and we waited for our food to arrive. The starters arrived and they were lovely. Once we finished our starters we stacked up the plates and left them at the side of the table, I would say we were 10 minutes finished before any staff members came to left the plates! They were busy cleaning tables around us and again ignoring the customers! Main course arrived... I ordered Turkey and Ham, when it arrived, it was covered in FREEZING gravy! My husband ordered the same thing, his gravy was also freezing. I advised the waitress it was cold, he apologised and took the food back. About 3 minutes later (not sufficient time to have reheated the gravy) the two turkey dinners arrived back, guess what the gravy was still cold! I advised the waitress that it was still cold and wait for it.. she laughed at me and said the chef said it was warm! I asked her to take it back again! She took it back and came back to the table saying the chef said we could order something else of the menu.. I advised her I did not want anything else, I just wanted the turkey I had ordered with warm gravy! The turkey arrived back AGAIN, this time gravy on the side and the turkey was microwaved despite the fact there was nothing wrong with the Turkey in the first place!! After leaving the food with us that time, they never returned to the table to ask if everything was ok! When we were finished eating, they arrived back to clear the table! I did speak to the manager before I paid the bill and in fairness to her, she was not there when the above happened. She apologised and took the turkey dinners of the bill. However the bill was another issue, we got 4 copies of the bill before it was correct!While taking the dinner of the bill was a nice gesture, it did not solve my issue of poor service and cold food! I have to say I was really disgusted with the whole experience yesterday and as a regular customer to the Waterfoot, I will not be rushing back! As bad as it is to have to send food back once, twice is just not on!

Een driegangenmenu voor 17,5 pond. Voldoende keuze tussen de gerechten. Gezellige bar, met veel keuzemogelijkheden (ronde hoekjes, hoge tafels, lage tafels,...)Vriendelijk personeel.

We went for birthday celebration for our grandson. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent.

As we live locally ww would eat here at least once a month. The last time we visited we were very disappointed with the quality of the food and has left it for a while but decided we would try again as maybe it was a bad experience. However again our meals were not good. Both chicken dishes were overcooked until the chicken was dry and tasteless. The boiled potatoes were black in parts and tasted horrible. The vegetables of the day uninspiring and tasteless. We did not order desserts based on the mains. Don't know what is happening but will not be back too many other great places.

Nice Bar attached to the hotel restaurant and also where they serve breakfast. Prices are very reasonable and the bar is fully stocked. Massive wine cellar as well.

Food was good, service was bad. Was served by 5 different members of staff with staff running about the place and each one giving us different information. The chairs and table were disgusting covered in crumbs and dirt.. I was also disappointed when I asked for a chocolate fudge cake and received a chocolate gateau, although it was nice it was not what I had asked for. The dessert menus were also completely different from each other and not everything was present on the menu as I had to ask if there was chocolate fudge cake. (As you can see in the photo it was just a regular chocolate cake)As someone with a degree in hospitality management I recommend the restaurant supervisors and management allocate different members of staff to do different tasks so they are not running all over the place and to assign staff to different sections of the restaurant so customers are not being served by a number of different people and being told different information. I personally won't be back due to the service and uncleanliness of the eating area.

When working in Derry a trip is always on the cards to this place. The food quality and choice is exceptional, and the staff are very friendly. The restaurant is very modern and looks very expensive but in fact the prices are very reasonable. I would say if you're going in Londonderry make the trip as you won't be disappointed

Was out for dinner with my boyfriend and was an absolutely amazing evening. Our waiter Adam really went over and above for us. His knowledge of the menu and of the bar was spectacular. Really great restaurant and would definitely return. 10 out of 10 and 100 out of 10 for Adam. Thanks Again

Been here many times to eat. Enjoyed every visit with family and friends. Tried their summer menu which has plenty of choice, two choices for £12 or three choices for £15.50. Lovely food and great service as always.

I have just had a meal with friends, approx 30 people, so a nice sized group and i would have thought the Restaurant would have made sure everything was perfect, especially when there was a reservation and we were expected.Everyone was looking forward to a nice meal due to a similar previous visit , our order was taken and we waited for the food to arrive, we waited and waited and the first course finally arrived. Who ordered the soup? Who ordered the salad? etc ..... The staff didn't know who ordered what and were not even sure what table exactly ordered what ...if you were talking and didn't hear them ask who ordered what , you had a longer wait and got your order after you asked where your order was.It got worse .... Main course arrived .... same again .... who ordered this or that .... most of us got our main courses .. then the same again with the side orders ... only this time not all the side orders arrived, my wife ordered Mash, something simple i thought , she ended up enjoying my Garlic potatoes and after a wait of approx 10 minutes . ... the mash arrived, just as she finished her Main course.Unfortunately it didn't end there ,there was a problem with a kids meal, a young girl at our table finally got her meal after a wait of nearly 15 minutes after we were served our Main course, maybe it was a challenge for the Kitchen, a Child's Meal off their menu ....Sausage and Chips ! I didn't pay attention to the delivery of the deserts, although what i ordered was off the menu and the staff made sure i got something which suited me due to health reasons, this was a nice touch and i Thanked them for this.All of this is so unprofessional in a place which has a really good reputation.The food when it arrived was really nice, i made a point in asking different people what they had and was it nice,everyone was complimentary on the quality of the food but each and everyone had a comment on the wait time and delivery of their meals.To sum up, the quality of the food was good, the staff really tried their best, but something is badly wrong, i hope this was a one off and it will not put me off coming back again and give it another try.

One of my favourite places to dine, but sadly my last visit was disappointing. I had rump of lamb which was a poor cut ,not well cooked or presented.

I had booked a family meal here. We booked the table for 7pm we arrived at 6.45pm. We had to wait till 8pm before we got are table. The hole point of booking a table is to get the table for the time you booked for not later. When we got the table the food and service was good.

My husband and I eat here regularly as we live locally. We like the staff very much and up until last night were very happy with the food. I had the chicken with noodles it looked small and tasted nothing like it normally does with minimal noodles more like a child size portion but not price. My husbands burger was so poorly presented and tasted very average. We were rushing and had contemplated going to mc Donald's we would have saved a lot of money and it would have tasted equally good. We expected better. Will not be rushing back.

business trip stopover in attached hotel. Fairly impressive club feel about the bar, was exceptionally pleased at the wine cellar/store. Good effort

Now I've been coming here since it reopened. I live in Waterfoot Park. I can't express enough how impressed I am with this place! The staff are amazing....Jennifer, Mark, Denise the manager and Leona Mc Laughlin! The food was world class and I am really impressed with the improvements made! I'm so happy that the Waterfoot is back !!! Great food staff and atmosphere ! What's not to like !!! Once again my favourite in the city !! Thank you for everything ! The new chefs are doing a great job too ! Made my day.

Very pleased with our visit here for dinner, the food was ten out of ten and the service was very attentive. Our waiter was Adam and he knew his stuff about the menu and was really cheerful

I visit every few months the food is grand, however last night we were shown our table seated and given menus. A wine list would have been helpful, before being asked again for our drinks order likewise with the menu details of the dish of the day etc. The appearance of the menu looks a bit tired and doesn't seem to have charged in sometime possibly the menu is a little long in the tooth?That said the meals were great and the staff attentive when we needed them. Will be happy to return just datails or is that details?

Went here for Sunday lunch carvery. Very well organised and the food was great. Ended up taking huge amount of meat home for the dogs! Range of choice in each course. They have made good use of the function room on an otherwise unused time. Child friendly with entertainment and colouring activities for children. Definitely visit again

My family and i went here for Mothers Day. The food was just on. ....nothing special at all and the portion sizes were minute. I had the salmon, creamed potatoes and vegetables and to be honest my 20 month year old daughter would've quite easily have eaten the portion potatoes on her own. As for the vegetables. .....A dish of watery, tasteless frozen vegetables are not what I expect for the prices this hotel charges! When we were leaving and went to pay we were charged for a bottle of wine which we never had!! In fact on one at our table even drink alcohol! When the female manageress asked if everything was ok for us and my partner began to tell her the issues we had she turned away from him and just ignored him!! How rude! !! We will most definitely not be back and would not recommend anyone to eat here. Very disappointing indeed.
