Donaghy's Real Fish in Derry

£21.50 for x2 fish suppers and two cans. The fish suppers looked like when you get fish alone and they throw in a few chips for good will. Rang and actually got put through to owner who was looking for us to bring them back when he should have delivered two bags of chips to me, rude and arrogant man, been going there for years too. Oh aye, ordered peas which they didn't send either. I see in reviews below this is a ongoing thing. Must be expecting another potato famine on the horizon.

Absolutely beautiful Fish and Chips. One of the nicest i've ever had.

Skip this place folks. 25mins to get a kids special. Dirty hot plate meant the fried onions were full of black grit and so greasy they soaked right through the hotdog bun 🤢 Chips were inedible. Literally had to take the sausage out of the hotdog and bin the rest. Don't waste your money.

Just paid £4 for a small handful of chips (ordered large bag). I went back into the shop to ask if they’d made a mistake, the teenager working refused to alter to increase the portion and was very rude. Chips are nice but that price is absolutely absurd. Won’t be back.

Placed an order at 4:30pm for an elderly relative, deliveries began at 5:30pm ~ enquired for delivery slightly futheraway told can be done for extra delivery fee.. paid that and overall order on card — had just rang back to see where order is (2hrs laters) they informed me they aren’t doing the order as they’ve one delivery man on and I asked why didn’t they make contact and inform me they couldn’t fulfill the paid order.. Was met with you’ll have to ring over the next few days and try catch the boss to refund your £30 & ‘here we’re slammed busy bye’ hanged the phone up. brutal customer service, will never use again and will make this known at how shockingly no member of staff is allowed to refund money you have to try and ‘catch the boss’ to get your money back. Donagheys is definitely the best chipshop in derry. In nearly 10 years I've never had a bad takeaway from Donagheys. Consistently excellent 👏 👌

Really need to be honest about delivery times, waited an hour and a half for food that arrived freezing, could savage the salad baps but chips were binned...plus more like a scoop of chips not a small bag... ordered small chip, 2 salad baps, can of coke and small tub of coeslaw...came to £19.20 with delivery which seems a bit on the expensive side...I don't know what is going on with the delivery service and why other reviewers seem to be saying the same that the food is cold.... please do your business a favour and let the customer decide if they want to wait that long and maybe not do too many deliveries at once? Was really disappointed that the few chips that were there had to be dumped...in the long run this won't be good for your business...so take this as constructive criticism.

Unfortunately the food I wanted was unavailable but third choice was satisfactory and edible. However was totally let down by the service this time. Staff were mid conversation and although the shop was empty it took the lady 5 minutes to actually engage and take my order and even then pleasantries were not made. Does not take a lot to be nice.

I can't comment on atmosphere as its a take out chip shop. This place is top notch the best chip shop. Good sized serving prices are good and the food is excellent. Gluten free on most stuff [please check menu] highly recommended

I can’t recommend Noel, Lorraine and all the staff at Donaghys enough. At the weekend we placed a massive order for guests at my birthday party. The food arrived piping hot and it was delicious ! They even cater for people with gluten intolerances. People could not stop raving about how nice the food was especially the fish which flaky white cod in beautiful batter. Honestly the best fish I’ve ever had. Thankyou again. Susan & Ronda

New review Since my last review, i can say that my opinion on there food has definitely improved. I can say this because i have eaten from here a few times since my last review. AMAZING to see as i have been coming here for years since I was diagnosed with celioac disease..... The staff seem to be more confident in processing your order so as for now I am happy. Previous review: ------------------------------ the owner needs to be in shop more often because the quality of the food is slipping a bit, half of the time the chips are not cooked properly and they almost always run out of tartar sauce which I think is a joke, why sell fish if you cant keep enough tartar to go with it. I'll change to 5 star when these issues are resolved

Order placed at 5pm, delivered at 6.45pm, Food warm but will not be using again due to the wait for the food, and it wasn't even nice, my advice would be to avoid, there's far better takeaways that deliver better and faster.

First time using this little shop and it won't be the last. Huge big bit of cod. Really enjoyed it.

5 star food, Expensive but worth it, simply loveley food. The app I do think needs improved, doesn't tell you delivery time till after you order and no option to cancel.

Ordered on My Food Delivery. Order was accepted straight away And 2 hours later after I phoned and said to cancel order a cold take out arrived with grease seeping through the bag, This place used to be really fast delivery and spot on, WHAT HAPPENED PEOPLE, this is the second time this has happened. won't be ordering again, far from an enjoyable experience, just a pity I cant give NO STARS or I would £28 for that, I'm seething.

Amazing and great for Gluten Free!

We bought 2 fish and chips there on Friday, the fish was very nice but not the batter, that was not cooked through so soggy . The chips were horrible dark brown ,watery and not crispy I would think made with poor potatoes the peas were cold as if they forgot to heat them. I rang them the next day and he said we should have brought them back. The night we bought them was very windy and wet and we should not be expected to go there twice when it wasn't our fault. He added that he gets calls like this all the time and I thought that speaks for itself. In saying all this we have bought food there several times before and it was good.

The chips tonight from three different meals we received were simply awful. A mixture of grey, almost black some of them were as well and completely soggy. I don't know what type of potatoes or oil that was used or who cooked those disgusting so call chips but you'd seriously need to get your act together Donaghey's. Totally inedible.

We only went here as the chicken shop along the street was closed. We ordered the Big D Burger, a Belfast pastie, two battered sausages and a small chip. The burger was great and the chips were only okay but having asked for salt and vinegar, it certainly seemed it was being rationed. The battered sausages and the pastie were poor as they were both very greasy. As I said, the chicken shop was closed and it seemed this chip shop was getting the overspill and therefore busier than I would imagine it normally is and maybe busier than they expected but it felt like they were under a bit of pressure and trying to rush without success. Overall the food was middle of the road and it certainly wasn't the worst. I think I'd go again to see if they can get better.

Safe is a joke waited 2 hours on food and still wasn't ready maybe if staff spent less time talking to each other and more cooking food and getting it out be ready faster never be back again

Called in my order about 10 minutes before I arrived and had to wait another 15 minutes as they were busy. I was rather disappointed then to get cold chips and cod in a soggy batter. Real fish and chips was not really worth the wait

Waited 2 and a half hours for delivery with no communication. Then received the wrong order and wouldn't answer the phone. First time ordering and will definitely not be ordering again. Wouldn't have minded the wait had the order been correct but it wasn't.

I am absolutely disgusted with my order, my order came to just over £26, in the order was supposed to be a cod supper, well I got the cod but only 25 chips! So I thought they got the wrong order, so headed back into the shop to ask! Only to be told by the girl that my order was correct and that is all they 'are allowed!' to put in the box. So when I asked what they put in for a small chip she couldn't answer, so she reluctantly gave me another 20 chips. So when I got home I still couldn't enjoy it as the food was stone cold, bar the extra chips were luck warm. I only live a 2min drive from the shop!!! I will never be back!!

My mother has just had the most awful experience with the staff from donaghys. Order was not charged for as order was made online. My mother received two missed calls, she rang back to donaghys who explained there mistake my mother was addressed as there she is now ringing back and passed on to another member of staff. My mother spoke to the girl and explained that she was on her way to work and that she would call and pay for this order the next day only to be asked if she could definitely guarantee that she would be in the next day to pay for the order my mother thought that she had missed heard this girl, who then in turned hung up the call. My mother was very annoyed with the attitude from the staff so she left early and called to the takeaway where she spoke to the manager and paid for the food. The manager did apologise to my mother, my mother just felt that she was been labelled dishonest by staff the way in which she was questioned through no fault of hers but the staff serving.

It was £6.50 for a fresh fish and chips. It was all cooked fresh to order so you have to wait for maybe 10 minutes or so to receive it. That is a very small price to pay to have it piping hot. They do not take any type of bank or credit cards in the shop. There is a shop next door that has an ATM, but it costs a few pound to withdraw your money. Better value choice is to walk the 80 metres along the road to the Bank Of Ireland where there is a free ATM. Highly recommended.

Everything is so greasy. The place is an absolute hole. So dirty. Staff are clueless. A piece of glass in a chicken box chipped my front tooth three months ago and still waiting for the manager to call me back. Completely avoid. So many other nice chip shops in the area.

La tienda de papas Donaghy's es una excelente pizca tradicional que sirve comida recién hecha. El pescado fresco es realmente bueno cocinado en una masa crujiente muy ligera. Fichas grandes también. Las raciones son buenas y los precios son muy razonables. La mejor astilladora de la zona.También una pequeña área para sentarse.

Fresh made fish and chips, absolutely beautiful. Clean place to eat inside and there is free wifi here(not sure if its there or not but you get 4 bars in there). Extremely clean inside and some really friendly staff. However the one problem i had was that there was a bit too much batter on the fish but other than that it was amazing.
