I used to be a regular of The Viceroy about 30 years ago and at that time it was very busy, even at lunch times. Popped in about 9p.m.without a booking (Saturday) 25 February 2023 hoping we could get a table for two however it was surprisingly quiet and we were taken to a table immediately. Service: Excellent; all staff were very smartly dressed, attentive, and professional. Food: My brother and I had the Tikka Masala Garlic Chilli which was outstanding, absolutely delicious and plentiful. Garlic bread which again was perfectly delicious, with ‘chips’. The ‘chips’ however were ‘French fries’ and that’s a big NO! Chips is chips, not French fries! That said, it was our choice not to have rice, so I won’t let that detract from the quality of the curry! Restaurant: Structurally it hasn’t changed since 30 years ago, however; it has been decorated and it is a lot brighter than I remember previously. Played good music too. Would I recommend? YES

Haven’t been here for a couple of years but the main courses are of an exceptional standard. I had the lamb tikka and my bf had chicken rogan josh with rice and garlic naan. The lamb and chicken were of excellent quality and extremely succulent. I had three large pieces of lamb. The garlic naan was Devine. I had the mushroom pakora which is good with a lovely sauce and bf had the onion bhaji which was very good. Coffee to finish £11.50 each. What’s not to like. Will defo be back.

We actually really enjoy the food from this restaurant, particularly the vindaloo. We have therefore ordered from them multiple times, despite the take away delivery being consistently slow (Ie more than 2 hours). Each time we hope it has been bad luck but we are currently waiting for food that we ordered nearly 3 hours ago which was estimated to be delivered an hour and a half ago. On calling we are always advised that the food is ‘on its way’. Sadly, we won’t be ordering again as it somewhat ruins the fun of a takeaway and any plans we might have made for the evening when it takes 3 hours to arrive.

We ordered a take away for collection. Collection of meal went smoothly but that’s where it ends. This has to be the worst take away we have ever tried. The meat was dried out and chewy and the sauce was greasy we ended up binning the lot. Will definitely never return. We usually get take aways from dhoom which are in a different league to this place or khushis. Don’t be disappointed go elsewhere!

This restaurant feels like it could do with a Gordon Ramsey overhaul - it’s a big place in a great location but the decor is drab and the atmosphere is non-existent. I wouldn’t have minded the drab interior, if the food had been fantastic…but it wasn’t in our case. The Garlic Mushrooms starter was swimming in sauce and very salty. The “Garlic Chilli” curry was rather sweet and I didn’t finish it, which is very rare! The waiters were pleasant but the food let the side down…overall 2 out of 5 sadly - could be much-improved with a new carpet, new layout, some nice Indian background music and tastier dishes.

It had flavour and looked amazing, the nan bread was fresh and really tasty.Jenny then asked if she could take our daughter for a walk around the restaurant and say ‘hi’ to all the other customers - this gave my wife and i ten minutes to chat and enjoy our meal.Overall an amazing experience, Jenny was a real star, the food was great, service even better. Visited on a saturday night. Restuarant was more or less empty yet staff seemed to be rushing around. Quickly became evident this was due to takeaway orders The owner who is normally very friendly and recognises us as regular customers seemed less friendly. When asked at the end of the meal if everything was ok I politely stated I was disappointed with my meal but my husbands had been fine and was surprised to be challenged back that it 'looked like' the curry I'd ordered so I stated it didn't taste like any kind of curry. It was chicken in a tomato sauce. I also wasnt the only person in the restuarant that night with the same experience. Therefore we requested and were quickly issued the full bill, paid and left and wont be back. Not only due to the quality of the meal but the surprising attitude displayed when we gave our requested feedback, lack of atmosphere, length of time we waited to have our drinks order taken, having the drinks ordered wrong and length of time to take our order. I had no issue with length of time waiting for freshly prepared food but if I order a certain curry I expect it to taste like that. Wht could have been a simple 'sorry about that' could have been brushed off as a one off but the way it was handled has finished us off. Shame but I'd rather drive over to Corstophine for a decent curry. Very sad as I've always loved the place

Visited on Wednesday night with my wife & kids. The restaurant is really nice, the staff are very welcoming and the food is excellent. This isn't a buffet restaurant as such, they just do buffet during the week, so it's not the cattle market you get in some places. The selection of starters & mains is good and, importantly, they only put out fairly small amounts at a time so it hasn't been sitting on the hot plate for ages. I hadn 't been to The Viceroy for years but will make a point of coming back soon.

We had visited the restaurant for the Buffett night previously and really enjoyed it, so when my wife suggested we order a takeaway I readily agreed. However it was the worst takeaway curry I have ever had. It took over an hour and a half to get to us and when it showed up it was lukewarm at best. After a reheat in the oven we finally tried it. I will not go into a breakdown of every dish but needless to say they were all awful. I've never known curry to have such little flavour and all just tasted the same (even the dhansak!). It was that bad that I actually put it in the bin and made the family Heinz soup instead.

Another 10 mins before our drinks orders were taken and took ages to bring them to table then had to wait another 15 mins before we were asked up to the buffet bearing in mind hardly anyone was in, staff member hanging over us when we were at buffet was uncomfortable! Food was OK but nothing to rave about and could have been hotter, the salad was sitting in a bowl on a table along with a couple of dipping sauces , sweet choices poor also. We used to be weekly diners some years ago so decided to try it "for old time sake" having lived away for many years. They say you should never go back and this place certainly proved that. It was awful. The food was not good, a man kept wandering from the kitchen to the buffet with plastic jugs filled with food and dumping it in on top of the food already lying in the chaffing dishes, a bit worrying. The service was basic and the place appears not to have changed in the best part of 20 years regards decor or carpets. It seemed to have a certain clientele who were happy with their massive over loaded plates and bets at the table as to who would have seconds and thirds, so if you are on a rugby weekend and it is merely a base for the booze, it might suit you, but if you want good food, forget it. Sometimes it is better to hold on to your memories and avoid having them shattered. Would not recommend The Viceroy now, which pains me to say

We booked a table online for the Viceroy restaurant for 17 June 2018. It was Sunday buffet which is always £10.95per person. Food was usual high standard however female waiting staff were not very professional and when I advised that I had the wrong drink they were not apologetic. However, main criticism was the charge. When the bill arrived I queried the cost as we had been charged £12.95 rather than £10.95 per person. I was told that was the cost of the buffet as it was Father’s Day. The menu still stated £10.95and there was no signs up to say differently, however it felt like they had just made up an extra charge without communicating it. Have to say that despite nice food, this left a sour taste as it felt like we had been ripped off.

Excellent courteous staff, lovely buffet. For a real treat ask for an additional garlic nan to be made. It sizzles happily and is a meal in itself.

Any time I have been in The Viceroy the food has been very good. Usually opt for the buffet and it is pretty good value for money. Good for both lunch or dinner. They have a range of different curries although I have been to similar buffets where there is more on offer.

Visited with 2 work colleagues on a Wednesday night it was busy with mot people opting for the buffet good value but not my choice generally. The chicken tikka and Pakora starters were excellent, followed by a really tasty chicken and mushroom Balti and chicken masala all cooked really well with good flavours. The roti and cheesy nan were well received. The service was excellent welcomed with a handshake all in all .would recommend this restaurant,

Tried the Buffet as a family, there wasn't a huge selection, but this is never an issue whent he food is good, would rather have a few lovely choices than lots of bland, howeverwe were all a little let down I'm afraid. The lamb mince kebabs, a favorite of mines and my son were very dry and didnt seem fresh. We normally enjoy some popadoms with the spicy onions and chutney but thre wern't any available. The main meal was if I remember correctly 6 curries and rice, and I'm afraid we found them all a bit bland, not terrible! but just a little on the bland side. When it came to deserts, my husband and 1 of my sons had spied a nice selection of cakes, however when they went to get some, there was a choice of only 2 cakes left, so they took 1 each, there had been a large group in that had taken most of them and it hadnt been replaced, we could have asked and I'm sure they would have no problem but we didnt have enough time to wait. There are also no plates available to you ad lib - you are given a plate for starters and another for main course, so think maybe it's only one visit you are allowed to make to the selection, I didnt want to on this occasion, but if I had wanted to re visit I would have felt a bit greedy/silly asking if I could have another plate.

I've never been disappointed with the food at The Viceroy. I ordered a takeaway about 7pm on a Friday night and it was delivered well within the 45 minute estimate. All of the food was fresh and hot, unlike some of the soggy rubbish I've experienced elsewhere. I'll definitely continue to be a regular.

Visited here recently with family for a evening meal. Service was great staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. Good size portions, after my starter I was pretty full so decided to split the main course with another. The prices were a little high to be honest. I would go back but maybe for the buffet next time.

The viceroy offers a buffet most days I believe and we visited to give it a try , I was pleasantly surprise at how tasty the food turned out to be as I am always a little wary of buffets . The service was good and the restaurant was clean, tidy and cool on a warm evening. The cost for two including soft drinks was under £30, well worth the money given the quality of food.

Great curry here. I'm not local to Dunfermline but I have a few pals who live here and every time I'm in town we eat here. They're in all the time and I probably visit about once a months for the last five years. Its always lovely food, its always good service, the lads who work here are friendly, the prices are good. Sunday buffet is good value and is turning into a bit of a tradition. Probably the best curry in Fife.

Ordered set meal for 2. Collected after 40 minutes. Arrived home. A dish missing. Called to explain and was told there was no driver so I'd either have to wait whilst our dinner got cold or collect. I opted for collect. Second time in the resteraunt in 20 minutes and the manager stood scowling at me as if I was an inconvenience. I got home and it tasted reheated and was oily than ever and was look warm. Not a great experience at all and I'll be looking to another in town from now on. The korma was disgusting in taste and appearance.

•After going out for a family meal last night was disappointed when we have ended up with food poisoning from eating here even with a vegetarian curry being one of the dishes that made us Sick. Several members of a party of 12 ! •Staff also took members of our tables plates away before we had finished while others were still eating theirs •We waited 45mins - 1hour on our food getting served restaurant wasn't that busy •2 of the waiters also hung around our table (while eating) hanging over the chairs speaking to one of our table bit rude when people are trying to eat and you have a man Leaning on your chair •Was great when the front door of the restaurant was open letting air in but when it's shut its a very stuffy place to sit and eat hot food • I have to say very good service off the waiters for drinks constantly making sure we all had fresh drinks never once did we need to go to them to ask for more. A lot of money spend to end up not well! first and last time here

£9.95 buffet at the viceroy gives you exactly what you would expect, value!. It isn't without compromise tho, I think both the korma and tikka masala dishes had a higher than usual water content. Maybe thats harsh because one thing it never lacked was chicken, which was well cooked and tender. Their is a decent selection of curries and starters for the one price of £9.95 but I never saw any poppadoms which to me is a staple of any indian dish. It is worth noting that the table service we received was the best in any indian Ive had to date, the owner/manager was sitting at one of the tables at the back and was just watching everyone and making sure his staff were as attentive as they could be. For the price we paid and the food we consumed It is well worthy of 4 stars.

My wife and I invited our grandson and his partner to have an evening meal at the Viceroy. We had not booked yet we were greeted at the door and made very welcome. It was the first time any of us had been to the Viceroy. The room was large and spacious with high ceilings. The room was air conditioned. There was soft Indian music playing gently in the backgroundThe food was absolutely perfect, The menu was large and varied with a choice to suit every taste. The service was extremely good yet not overpowering. The cost was very reasonable and worth every penny.I have told all my friends how good it was and I am sure they will agree when they try it for themselves.

Being new to the area, I had tried a few other well rated restaurants on Trip Advisor, but none which were really any good.I'm so happy I found The Viceroy! This place has a great variety of very tasty food, fair prices and really friendly staff - we were very well taken care of. Tried the Chilli Bhoona as well as an assortment of starters - they were all excellent, light but filling. There is great variety in the menu and everyone in our table was raving about everything they tried.I haven't tried the buffet yet, but that'll be next on my list. Going by the strength of the a la carte, i'm looking forward to it!Give them a chance, they deserve it :)

Me and my good lady are big fans of the viceroy. We consider it the best place to eat In Dunfermline and so far Fife. (We like to dine out as frequent as possible) we're always greeted promptly and always with a smile. Our food is always perfect. I would reckomend the the chicken Tikka Masala with Punjabi Rice and a cheese and garlic naan. This place is a wee Gem and I cannot fault it.

We stumbled across this restaurant while looking for somewhere different to eat in Dunfermline. We went in and checked the takeaway menu out first as my husband is a very fussy eater. Once we had found something that he we eat we went in. Straight away we were greeted and shown to our seat's. All seat's were pulled out for us lovely touch i thought. The restaurant was surprisingly big on the inside. Very clean and tidy also. We were handed our drink menus and food menus for adults and the kids. The waiter then returned in around 5 mins to take our order. Drinks arrived very quickly as did the food. Before our food arrived we revived a plate of poppadoms and a mixture of pickle, spicy onions and a chutney. We were told these were on the house and not to let the kids have pickle as was very hot. I agree there was rather spicy. I enjoyed the onions and chutney very nice. The kids had went for the chicken korma and rice. Witch i must admit i just had to try it was amazing. They way it came served to you as well in wee pot things they placed onto the table was lovely. Us adults went for cheese omelettes and chips and a garlic Nan. All cooked beautifully was lovely that garlic Nan was amazing. Portions are quite some size. We asked for the remainder of our meal to be boxed up for home. We really enjoyed our meal out from start to finish. Was a lovely treat we will defo come bk again. Our bill came to just under £50 well worth it.

Went here with the girls for a nice meal. We had a lovely bottle of prosecco and a delicious meal. The service was alright but it was clear to see who regulars where. One waiter in particular didn't make us feel very welcome and needs to work on his people skills. No popadoms with the amazing spicy onions mint sauce and mango sauce - this was so annoying especially when every other table around us had them! We did not even get the option. Again possibly regulars.Don't let this out you off a good meal I just feel the service could be a lot better!

On a very busy evening we were greeted by the Manager courteously who took our order. We chose a sharing Starter plate. We didn't have to wait very long for our starter which was very tasty and decent size portions. Our main courses arrived after a nice break. Yet again the food was excellent tasting. My wife was unable to finish her food as the portion was too much for her. Overall we were very pleased with the food and the service and left an appropriate tip. We hadn't been at The Viceroy for over 1 year but we won't wait so long for our next visit.
