The best in Leyland for Indian food! Having eaten in Indian restaurants the length and breadth of the UK this is by far one of the best! The lamb naith is the best I have ever had and the lamb mogul is definitely worth booking for. We will be regulars there! Four months on from the launch of the new Viceroy the food is still brilliant and the quality is of the highest standard

The new Viceroy is top notch! Friendly atmosphere with brilliant staff and service. I also have to recommend the Mogul Lamb with red rice, absolutely beautiful meal.

Ordered a couple starters for takeaway on my way home, could only pay with cash online so I asked inside the restaurant if I could pay on card and wait and they were happy to accommodate. Staff were lovely from start to finish and the food was delicious, especially the shish kebab, can't wait to dine inside soon!

Food was distinctly average. I ordered a chicken and keema jalfrezi, and peshwari nan. Portion size for mixed starter was a piss take, and not so much as a popadom in sight despite having a £ 23.00 take out for one (including one cobra). Value for money, not. Will I go back ? Probably not. Restaurant was quite nice and staff friendly, but hugely underwhelmed given the hefty price tag. May be my last Indian from a restaurant. I can do better at home myself.

The best Indian restaurant in the area lovely food, very friendly and helpful staff Tikka Masala excellent 7 in our party and everyone really enjoyed the food.

Having new management has made a massive difference. Lovely restaurant and the food is excellent. I visited with my wife who had a vegetable saag and I have the lamb moghal which was delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a lovely meal here. The midweek special menu is exceptional value for money with full portions and a lot of choice. The lamb was so tender and not fatty at all. Service was friendly and efficient with plenty of drink top ups and checks that everything was OK. Chef came out for a natter and explanation of how he had cooked parts of the dish we had. The music and environment was great and even when it got a bit busier with a lively birthday party, it still felt intimate in a booth which would easily fit 4 but we were given to ourselves. Will definately go again.

I've been to many Indian takeaways in Preston, but this one is the best of the lot. The flavour is top notch. I'll definitely be back again. It's a shame that the previous owners are knocking this review score down. It deserves 5 stars.

Update from previous review, we got a chance to visit Jamal and the new team at the New Viceroy, thoroughly enjoyed our meal, much better under the new management, food was delicious and the atmosphere is great.

Four mates called in and was met by old friend Jamal from many years going to Bangla Spice, and few familiar staff faces. Poppadoms and starters all hot and well spiced. We all had different dishes and I was recommended the Lamb Shank Mogli rather than standard Lamb Korai, I’d did not disappoint and the sauce was rich and deep in flavour similar to Korai. I know the previous Viceroy was very up and down in quality but the decor and attention to detail will be a great addition to Leyland that has lacked a decent Indian restaurant for many years. attended the New Viceroy last night with a group of friends, what a fab night we had, highly recommend this place, the food was excellent and the service second to none I will defo be going back

Just been for a meal at the new viceroy. The resturant is looking amazing. The food was so good. All the staff was very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Was lovely to be greeted by Jamal and to see him looking a lot more relaxed. We wish he well is his new resturant and im sure we will be visiting lots. All the best Maria and Greg

Visited the new Viceroy on their opening night for my partners birthday. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was just as good. As someone who doesn’t eat meat, I’m never sure what to expect, but the veg korma was delicious. Full of veg and really well cooked. Really great value for money too. The only reason I can’t give 5 stars is the naan bread was a little tough for my preference. Will definitely be visiting again!

Just don’t bother. Awful service, awful food. Go to KFC or for a kebab, or Tesco for a microwave curry. Dirty glasses that we had to ask for.

food is usually really good from here, Balti is excellent every time from here, tonight flavourless and full of water. 4 out of 6 poppadoms didn't arrive and the 2 that did were chewy, mango sauce leaked everywhere all over the bag so that was a nightmare and the chips were barely cooked. massive let down and they are quite rude when you ring up to check where it is when it's late. on top of that delivery driver knocked on door left on cold porch and was driving off before I opened the door.

Food is excellent and timely when you're there in person. They don't seem to care about orders for delivery as they are consistently late every time we order delivery and we've been ordering on and off for years. Once they were an hour late. Conversely it never seems that busy when we pick it up ourselves. Again the food is gorgeous but the service is really sporadic.

Super tasty flavoursome perfect Indian food. If you've tried here in the past you must come and try again. Rezzela dish is highly recommended, onion bhaji is perfect, salmon starter is divine.

Delivery was later than expected so had to call up to see where It was as site said It had already been delivered, they said It was on the way and quickly hung up (must have been a busy night I guess) Curry was luke warm, rice, saag aloo and onion bhajis were cold, which Is very unusual as previous orders have been brilliant. Maybe the delivery driver didn't show to collect and they had to send a member of staff. We ended up eating It anyway as It was treat night, though generally the food and service Is wonderful.

New synced lights and new decor had certainly added to the charm of this place. Food is great with loads of choice, limited drinks but Cobra and Kingfisher on draught. Plenty of room for small intimate alcoves or large open tables for parties.

There is a recent change at the Viceroy that has transformed it into a smart vibrant restaurant. New synced lighting gives the place an added oomph and with its bold decor it’s certainly a nice touch. Limited drinks choice but Cobra and Kingfisher are always good. Food as always is freshly cooked and tasty , decent portions and fairly priced . First time try of an Afghani curry and loved it, nice heat with good blend of spices. Aloo chat is filling and very tasty. Overall great meal out with nice service and competitively priced.

I have never ordered from the viceroy before because I thought it was a bit pricey, but my family highly rate it so I thought I would try it out with my partner. the order was delivered early and piping hot. the poppadums and dips were fine. the starters were ok but the lamb chop virtually cremated. the lamb passanda however was really disappointing. watery sauce that had not been reduced properly and overcooked chunks of lamb. won't be ordering again

After paying nearly 30 pounds for 2 meals was very disappointed order was short of 3 chappati when they finally arrived after driver realised he hadn't given us them it was to late meal was unined will not be useing again

Honestly I actually felt sorry for them it's was nearly empty. 1 blonde girl was running around doing everything because 1 of the lady's running it didn't no what she was doing and didn't understand English. The food was awful tasted reheated and bland. I will try again in a few months hopefully it will be a lot better

2 hours to deliver a order & it was cold when it arrived, the didn’t even answer the phone when I tried to call them. The food is normally good but tonight it is well below what they normally deliver

The special request - for my chicken prawn and chicken peas jelfrezi Asian style medium spice - was delicious. Also, my fried king prawn and massala fish were also nice. the only thing missing was a fresh lemon with the fish , , it would be lovely if they sold something like bolognaise noodles with keem or keema cheese pie kiesh pie - tuna sweet corn and pasta - the menu needs to change a bit

Horrendous waited 2 hours for food fair enough it was 14 people but when it arrived naans we’re missing food was passed to wrong people food that wasn’t for us was forcefully gave to us and left 4 of us with really bad stomach ache I would’ve rather had a microwaveable meal Tried charging me £17 extra

I’ve put a 1 star for food even tho I haven’t received it we have been here 1hr 50 and only had popadoms the service is extremely slow and they took orders from other people before us I have never been to such a rubbish place

Very late despite chasing the restaurant several times and getting fobbed off with a 3/4 minute delivery eta. Best part of an hour late, food was ok but naan breads were cold.

Only person in there, waited 20 mins for a couple of popadoms. Another 20 minutes for the main. In the meantime a family came in, ordered and walked out after waiting too long. The popadoms were soft and could be torn. The main course was utterly tasteless and comparable to a supermarket curry. I mentioned this politely to the waiter/owner who accepted my findings and offered a discount. Just give me a tenner he said, which I did, but I certainly will never set foot in there again. This place will not survive serving up shoddy food like this.. I wished him luck,

I have always gone to eat in at The Viceroy mid week. The atmosphere is quieter due to lack of clientele. I would say that it actually lacks atmosphere. The waiter who has worked here for many years, does not openly engage, this has a tendency to make the experience feel tense and uncomfortable. (I am unable to comment on weekend activity). The food is cooked to average western standards and taste. It is ok and consistent and I have never had a bad experience with the food. I have now found an alternative restaurant on Wigan Rd, heading towards Bamber Bridge. The reason for this, the last 3 times I have eaten in at The Viceroy, I have chosen from the mid week offer menu, where the waiter (older gentleman) has tried to over charge me by a few pounds each time and I have had to challenge the bill. If you do go here or order a takeout/delivery, be sure to check your invoice before payment!

Nice meal well ok went with our tastecard that we were supposed to be able to use but we're told that we couldn't although the tastecard did it could be used on Sundays (disappointed). We would go again but in reality I won't be rushing back.

Well well well where do I begin The mixed starter left me with nothing but mixed emotions fuming to see the state of it but happy I wernt paying the bill. Now when I eat a nice madras I like to feel a nice heat gradually kick in and hit the back of my throat not the two greasy black hairs i found this evening. Very bland food, all those spices in the kitchen and yet I've had more flavour in a bowl of porridge. wouldn't come back again the nicest thing about my experience tonight was leaving.

Late delivery. Cold and bland ... Don't bother.

The first time I went, the food was really good but the 2nd time, the curry dishes were really bland lacking in spice, depth and savouriness. I will however, say the poppadoms, nann and pillau rice were good. Due to the lack of consistency, it's not worth taking a chance for good food and I won't be going again, unfortunately.

The meal tonight was very good. The service was excellent. The portions plentiful. We will definitely be going back for more.

Best Indian in leyland, top food quality, great price

I have been going here for the best part of 20 years and have always found the food and service exceptional. However last night I went with a friend and the food was great as always, but the service was terrible. And when it came to pay I was being pushed and pushed to pay cash "because we need to pay our staff tonight". Okay well that's really not my problem, and there's no reason to pay your staff cash unless you're evading tax and NI. I didn't have enough cash so said I couldn't. I was then "invited" to walk to the nearest cash machine to draw cash out to pay. To be honest I was pretty flabbergasted by this and I just gave him the £20 I had in my wallet and said I'll pay the rest on card. Take it or leave it. He begrudgingly accepted. Pretty disgraceful I'm afraid and we walked away saying to each other "did that really just happen?". Won't be going back.

This has been the second time in a row the food has been late. It was already 1 hour 20 min wait which was long enough without it being late. I rang up after an hour to see where it was to be told it had just left when it clearly hadn't. I rang after 1 hour and 40 to be told the exact same thing that it had just left. Total wait time 1 hour 50 min. Very disappointing. The last order also was missing a dish which we complained about but never received a refund. The food is good which is the ONLY reason to go to this restaurant.

This review is for the takeaway service,wrong order again,this has happened several times,I wouldn't mind so much but when you ring and tell them,they do nothing about it.No more for me.

New Customer - unfortunately won’t be a returning customer. Normally use Bangla Spice for Pick Up but didn’t feel well tonight & they don’t deliver, so we thought try somewhere that does delivery as couldn’t be bothered to cook. Food took over 1 & 1/2 hour to deliver, we live just over 2 miles away. The food was Luke warm, the order had an item missing ( no garlic Nan bread ). Rang to chase the delivery 1 hour & 20 mins after ordering ( told would be an hour ) to be told it had already left with the driver, no apologies for it being late or explanation. You could have had a new regular customer but sorry, won’t be returning. Lucky to be getting 2 stars, that was only due to the Chicken Balti Curry being alright.

Great food however the service was appalling. Called in advance to ask for a bottle of champagne to be on the table it didn’t happen. They had to find it and try and chill it but was served warm and was the worst I’ve ever tasted. Draft lager was cloudy and tasted purely like yeast, obviously not cleaned their lines for a while. The waiter had no clue as to what we were asking for and just said yes and walked away. Very disappointed and will never go back.

Me and my partner took our kids out for a meal on Friday eve and we wanted Indian. Thought we would give this place a try as it is the closest to us. Will not be going back unfortunately. The restaurant was empty except for one other table and we were placed right next to them at the very front. There atmosphere was dead and each table could hear everything each was saying, there was no ambience at all and one older gentleman just doing everything. He had to cater to us diners, collect the food from the back, man the phones, Just Eat orders and walk in collections etc. This meant service wasn't too great. When he had to often go in the back kitchen, the phone would be ringing, online order machine bleeping every 2 minutes in a quiet setting- all very annoying. We were never asked if we needed a drink or anything at all at any point, we had to keep waiting for him to be available to ask for anything, should have had another worker on in my opinion. Drinks selection was so poor! Never had anything in that me and my partner drink at all. The bottles on the shelf were almost empty, just the last dregs and once they were gone they were gone. The drinks we were given were in small glasses with one singular ice cube that melted fast and was left with a very unappealing drink (and one we didn't want in the first place) it is like they hadn't stocked up on anything. Not great considering it was a Friday night. Food was very average. Kids enjoyed theirs, but they had chicken tikka massala which you can't go too wrong with, was OK. But me and my partner left half of ours, was nothing special about it, and the pilau rice was bright yellow plain and dry, like what you get in microwave packets. Toilets disgusting and smelly! Almost £100 for a disappointing dining experience that lasted no longer than an hour because we just wanted to leave. Definitely go somewhere else for a dine in Indian!

Firstly, the older guy was a bit rude and pushy but the young waitress was lovely, really helpful. The food was a mix of what seemed like reheated semi stale pieces and fresh. My main was nice but the overcooked starters had put me off by then. Secondly, we waited a while for drinks and 1 round didn't turn up. At the end the older guy didn't want us to pay on card, he suggested we get cash from the bank over the road. Won't be returning.

It’s very rude staff and owner no going anybody

The restaurant was very busy with take away however it did not effect the quality of food & service provided to me . The madras chicken was excellent & the piri piri lamb chops were cooked to perfection. I have eaten here many times and the food is always consistently good . The madras is full of flavour and takes me back to how curry’s tasted decades ago . 3 courses for £10.95 that’s value for money . A great dining experience. Highly recommended.

Received a special offer flyer through the door. It gave the impression I could order from the extensive menu provided. However the menu in the restaurant was a basic facsimile. If I had not been accompanied by my wife, I would have walked out. There was more atmosphere on the moon, we were the only diners in the place. Once bitten, never again. Wetherspoons curries are superior, for a fraction of the price.

First time in this restaurant and although the place was very very quiet ( we were the only two diners) this wasn’t a reflection on the food. My fish curry was the tastiest curry I’ve had for a long time and the waiter couldn’t be more accommodating when we asked for a larger portion of rice. Shame the place was so empty because that obviously adds to the atmosphere - but we will be revisiting.

There's an offer out the back on the back wall - no mention of that on the menu though, which is as bit deceptive... Wish I'd taken a photo of that offer to share here now, I will next time. They really need some new music, Westlife seems to be the only CD they have, and some of the friends I was with who visit more regularly say it's all they ever play...

There are some unusual dishes on the menu that you rarely see Try them as they are delicious Friendly crew here, always keen to please I’ve been coming here for years and it’s always great to come back and experience some different dishes.

Never sat down and eaten in the restaurant but have had a few takeaways. Food is fantastic and at a very reasonable price.

This was the worst Indian meal we have ever had. Food was bland and texture horrible. We complained and they offered nothing off the bill. My colleague was sick the next day. Place was dirty and needless to say we will never be back.

Had lovely meal at The Viceroy last night with friends. The food was amazing. (If you like mild the Kurma was great) The service was good. There was a little mix up with the drinks, but I think that was their dad trying to help out :) Will definitely be returning.

It’s not very clean. Mens toilet urinal has weeks old stale piss just hanging about in it. The stairs to the toilets look like they get cleaned once a week. Staff not very accommodating- place has gone down hill

Ordered a takeaway for mother's day for 4 people, worked out the prices from their recent flyer at 52 quid. My mum rings the order through to be told over 55 quid, plus the large picture saying all phone orders over 25 quid get 2 free bottles of cobra lager is incorrect. When queried, the excuse was it was misprinted on thousands of flyers! Then when my dad went and picked up, a pilau rice was missing along with 3 salads and yoghurt sauces for the 4 starters, only 1 of each included. Apparently its a regular occurrence despite the mebu clearly saying each starter comes with salad and sauce. My dad rang and vented at them, but no offer of recompense made or to get a driver to fetch it up. The food was ok, i guess, but my korai was quite runny and my wife's biryani veg curry sauce had no potato but curry peas carrots and cabbage in. Literally as if a frozen mix veg bag had been chucked in, which is just insulting given the price. Not a pepper in sight. Bhajis were greasy and naan bread was far too stodgy. My folks use this place and regularly moan that something is missing. Personally I have no idea why they persist with such incompetence, or is it as the "mistakes" are always in their favour not the customers. One last note also, the website is badly put together for online orders, only some are actually priced, no drop down menu selector for curry meat types, list goes on. Can't knock 10% off online orders if you can't place them. First and absolutely last experience of this place. Many other restaurants with Indian food, save yourself the aggro and order elsewhere, please!!
