The Venu in Gwynedd

Dreadful experience all round. Came for some lunch with the family while on holiday. Majority of the menu was unavailable, which was on the smaller side annual. Told the wait would be extra long due to a large party being served, which is understandable. While waiting for our meals we were told one of the options was unavailable and given an alternative. When our meals finally arrived we were then told that they’d run out of the fish, you’d think after a 30-45 minute wait they’d of told you much sooner. When a refund was requested and a conversation with the manager we were met with aggravation and attitude. The situation was handled terribly and not a single apology was given from any of the staff we spoke to. DO NOT ATTEND THIS ‘VENU’. Note to management, an investigation and disciplinary action is required on your half. The attitude of your tall blonde staff member (didn’t catch his name) was unacceptable and will cost you a lot of business if not dealt with correctly. Happy to give a full account if you wish to discuss the matter officially.

Most of my reviews are positive. Although this place is a fantastic location and has real potential..... Today we went for the third time... 3 of the beers were finished and not going to be available today - Again! The guy behind the bar was working very hard but it still took ages to be served. After speaking with Dan (Barman) I realised that there should be 3 staff but 2 were a no show. So, actually, Dan was doing a super human job but most of his customers were dissatisfied. This must be down to the owner. A reply, may demonstrate they care.

Semi good little night club Some days are dead but other weeks are fully packed. I have an issue with so many toilets being so dirty throughout the night compared to other clubs. Staff are a hit and miss some are amazingly awsome others are just angry people who needs customer service reality check

Decided to call in here for a quick drink. The owner walked us around the bar so we could choose where we would like to sit. It has multiple rooms. Has plenty of outdoor space which overlooks the harbour. This is a card only venue no cash at all. Dogs are allowed in the outside areas only. We ordered a Worthingtons and an Aspell cider. They cost £8.60 which is fairly reasonable. Ordered a pizza, the pizza was lovely however too much tomato base so the cheese and toppings tended to slide off. This also made the lovely thin crust a little soggy. The pizza was a set price for the base margarita toppings were extra, 12" and two toppings were £13.55. It was quiet when we went but the staff were nice and it was very clean. Would visit again.

Great lunch, very dog friendly, the owner brought both my collies a fresh bowl of water & a biscuit each.

Great pub sports bar kids welcome till 9pm I believe noce layout good for sport dj on weekends what more can you ask for friendly staff ...

Nice place, played pool, played scuffle board. Nice atmosphere and music was good. Staff friendly and polite. Would visit again and again.

Good place to watch football and rugby, has a huge screen. Drinks reasonable prices. Small dining area. Has live bands and DJ's on at weekends. Pool table. Kids allowed.

So genuinely shocked that 2 pizzas, 1 chips and 4 drinks including one being fake coca cola can be £42.

Much nicer here now than it used to be. Sky Sports F1 on during day for motor racing fans, decent carvery and a good pint of cider!

Couldn't get a coffee ordered 2 chilli didn't have any seemed to have to wait a long time for lasagnes but staff friendly

Nice and cosy place with not crowded. Have enough free parking space for the customer. Gave 4* because cod portion was not as expected for it's price. Other than that children live beef/ chicken burgers.

I went out onto the terrace and there were tons of empty plates and glasses that noone had collected on all the empty benches. Then went to the bar and was ignored even though I was one of two at the bar and would be next to be served. Not even a "be with you in a minute". No signs I could see to say they stopped serving food at 3, however someone joined the queue at the bar and asked about food. He said "we stop serving at 3". A little tip would be to collect the food menus and not leave people to think they can order. Anyway they opened discussion on getting just chips and I was still ignored so I left without ordering. Clearly not interested in either customer service or my money, shame really, as seemed a nice location... for Pwllheli

The pizza was lovely the burger was very juicy and homemade would definitely recommend.

Awesome experience! Location with a fantastic view, great options on the menu and the food was excellent. To top it all, Nikki was very friend, helpful, attentive, professional and made the whole experience so much more unforgettable. Thank you.

Decent food for a sports bar...

Food was very delicious. Great value for money. Friendly staff. Recommend the chicken burger as it was a chicken breast in a bun.

Ordered our food, half an hour later still no food. Went to check and we were told that the order hadn't gone through. From experience working in the hospitality trade I would advise that you keep a check on your tables whoever takes the order. Suffice to say we asked for a refund and found elsewhere to eat. Not impressed at all.

Gorgeous decor and lovely food. Sweet potato fries and bowl of chips were decent portions, served fast and really tasty. Staff were absolutely lovely and very attentive. One star taken off because my friend said that the toilets were very dirty. I didn't use those facilities. Everything else was great and will definitely visit again.

Modern bar with a great view Really cheap drinks & well mannered Staff. Night life isn’t the best during the week but absolutely booming on a Saturday night. Really enjoyed it we be paying another visit in the future.

Date of visit: August 2021 Was surprised by how modern everything looked when we arrived here. Bar area is very spacious. Pool table. Large TV's. Outdoor terrace overlooking the marina. Wheelchair accessible including toilet facilities. Didn't eat here, but food looked ok and prices are reasonable.

Drinks and lunch on the Terrace. Very reasonable prices and presentation. Pleasant and switched on staff. Once it's all bedded in will be five stars

Visited as was told it’s a amazing place to eat and dance the night away, not into the club thing so opted to go on a Sunday evening. Only person there not a problem I was eating early. Sat at the window no view of anything just black sky. Table was very sticky no idea why but it was the same everywhere. Asked what I would like to drink and was told the specials available and went for the Sunday pork dinner. Looked good on the plate veg was ok but not much taste of anything it all seemed bland and server seemed like she did not want to be there. Sorry but maybe the party/ dancing part is excellent but for me the food was poor.

Another enjoyable visit, thanks to Liam and his team, we could not fault anything, although the only party dining, no shortcuts had been taken, the venue was warm, and a full menu choice was available, we chose several starters, main courses and sweets, all excellent, and delivered in a timely manner, by attentive fully trained staff. Although we were the only dinners there, there was never any attempt made to rush ys through our meal.

Come here for a birthday meal, and definitely will come again.!!

A fantastic evening from start to finish. Really tasty food (first class ribeye steak and the Tomahawk to share was outstanding) great food and really good value for money! Great hosting by Liam - particularly on the wine choice (thank you Liam). Would highly recommend visiting The Venu for a great night with great tasting food. Will definitely return.

Called in on a whim one lunchtime last week and I have to say both the food and service were exceptional.

Such a lovely day we thought we’d try the terrace as dogs are allowed (big bonus to any place) and enjoy a hot chocolate (wife) and a bottled beer (me) and indeed the place looks lovely “inside”. A well presented dance and bar area with a small seating area to the side for lunch or dinner, I must admit to say that it looked very nice and we were greeted warmly by the waiting on staff (Izabelle).

Lunch was a sort of impromptu affair and very much last minute. I was supposed to have booked somewhere but had not got round to it. We agree to meet in Pwllheli and then drive on to Abersoch. Well first drinks on the terrance over looking the sailing basin then a very nice lunch. We were introduced to the new general manager and we wee told the restaurant had just reopened. Well fist rate and truly excellent seafood.

My family and I 100% wish there was one closer to home at Shrewsbury. Their steak sandwich and scallops are absolutely divine and their staff are all just so lovely and helpful.

This place is run my a manager named liam, him and his staff were exceptional in customer service and all catering needs. The food is without a doubt seamless, the steaks are exquisite as is the rest of the food. Definitely recommend to anyone from anywhere. 10/10

From the moment we arrived (family of 6 the youngest being just 3yrs) to the moment we left, everything was perfect. Gorgeous food, Gorgeous service. The staff were extremely accommodating, the food divine. Would highly recommend.

We have just come back from an amazing week in North Wales, meals here are exceptional, catered for all ages and food excellent, Very friendly staff and a manager who knows how it should be run, we wish them well .

Not a bad place at all. The only downside was the wait for service, wait for ordering and wait after we'd finished to manage to get someone's attention that we'd like to pay and leave.

visited here on holiday after cycling into pwhelli firstly finding staff to order was hard so ordered drinks from bar instead but had to wait for staff there as well anyway after having few drinks left bikes locked up outside when we returned the bikes had been tampered with we went inside to ask if they could look on cctv but manager came straight out not very helpful at all

I visited The Venu with my family as we have a boat in the marina. We had the scallops to start with the ham and they were delicious, well worth a try. Then we waited about 45minutes to an hour before we managed to get our main meals. There are only about 8 tables, so it shouldn’t have taken that long. For mains when they finally arrived I had the fajitas which were delicious, the chicken was very tender not over done at all. I would recommend a visit here as the food is great and the view from the bottom tables is lovely; a view of the marina. I would recommend you book a table though as it gets busy as they don’t have many tables. The cocktails are also 2 for 1 so make sure to check that on the bill, as they didn’t get it right on ours.

Arrived here at 18.30 on Friday evening (10/08/18). After looking at the menu decided this was for us. 2 hungry adults and 2 picky hangry children. Waited around 15 mins for someone to acknowledge us only to be told ( despite the place being virtually empty) that they couldn’t take any orders as “the head chef” was refusing to cook anymore food!! Really. Anyway after reading the reviews this turned out to be a blessing.

There was 10 of us from porthmadog out in pwllheli last night.. so we went to the venue around 11 30pm.. There was nobody else there only us.. the bar staff was so rude.. attitude towards customers were awful and to think we were the only ones there they would appreciate our Monay... I can understand know why it was empty there.. used to be a very good night in venue. And never experienced this before.. won't be going back in a hurry

My two boys had fish and chips one looked appealing the other looked dry and horrible! My wife had sea food tanglitelli..dry!! Steak was good but if you can’t cook a steak you should go home. Wouldn’t recommend, 😐

The waitress tried her best bit about five things (mostly fish) were missing from the menu. The starter of leek and potato soup was inedible: a huge amount of black pepper in a glutinous bowl of jelly like soup. I sent it back. I had the seafood linguine. The salmon was overcooked and probably just added from a packet. The prawns were like rubber bullets. The mussels were ok. We were massively disappointed and will not return.

We had a bruschetta to start, and a nachos, we shared the nachos as it was a HUGE portion. We then had pizzas and the local mussels. The pizza was fine, nice wood fired crispy bases. The mussels were pretty awful however, so very salty, so much so I couldnt eat the sauce at all and normally I’m not shy of adding salt im known for it, but this was basically inedible. The lovely waitress was apologetic and offered to replace, but I had eaten the huge nachos and the bread and was full by then, my own fault for not raising sooner.

Very nice modern bar/restaurant with a terrace over looking the sea. Staff very attentive. Prices seem very reasonable although we didn't eat there. Tried to book for evening meal but full very popular.

Was in the area for bank holiday weekend and went into the club after the champions league final. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be the understatement of the year! A cracking night with a great atmosphere, will definitely be returning!

We booked hear because of the choice of Vegan dishes it offered for one of our party. Both that an date rest of the food was excellent. Staff were courteous and prompt

If you like your pasta like baby food, then this is the place to eat! Complained twice and the waitress was still going to charge us full price until I pointed out I wasn’t happy again. Eventually she consulted the manager who came and apologised and removed the offending meals from our bill.

Food was generally very good. The exception was the chocolate brownie which was very dry (we mentioned this to the waitress who said she would tell the chef, but we heard nothing more). Lamb rack was excellent, as was the sea bass. Effort was made to accommodate dietary requirements, - we did have to submit menu choices in advance but the results were very acceptable.

We have just left this small dark pub after being served food that was extremely sub-par and a seafood linguine that was mainly pasta and sweetened tomato sauce. Don't trust the glitzy photos, this is a sticky dive with only the very polite and friendly waitress and waiters to hold it up. Avoid if you have any expectations!

Car parking, lovely inside so comfy trendy but tasteful. Good choice on the menu also a lunchtime specials menu. Two of us had ham and leek quiche chips and salad presentation lovely £8.50 well priced quiche was perfect. One had nachos very fresh he thoroughly enjoyed them. One had the burger which was homemade and tasty. Service was quick, drinks fab, coke, £1.60. overall will definitely go again.

Visited for Sunday lunch, the menu was set with a few options across 3 courses. I’m vegetarian and ordered the one option available, only to be told the potatoes are and gravy are both cooked in beef fat!!! So it’s not veggie option then?! The waitress asked the chef for an alternative choice, only to be told I can have boiled potatoes but it will still be covered in beef gravy!!! There was also no pork, so only 2 options for mains even for meat lovers! We sat finishing our drinks and no one came to apologise or offer an alternative! We didn’t even get glasses to drink our water, just a jug!! I’ve been veggie for 23 years and have never had this bizzare experience and lack of customer care, even abroad! Not for anyone who has any food intolerances, needs or dietary requirements.

Called in on spec for lunch, wasn’t disappointed. We had seafood linguine, battered cod and chips and 2 goats cheese salads . All were thoroughly enjoyed. Service was quick and efficient but we were not rushed. Nice table overlooking the water.

Excellent lunch, well priced, lovely welcoming place. Totally recommend it! Never seen so many prawns on a plate and extremely tasty too. View was good as was the weather! Nice to be able to bring the dog along too.

We managed to book a table for 7:00 just to eat and realised it is a night club to in the next room. It looked like the place to be for younger than us people, us being in our 60’s!

The lunch was the best tasting sunday lunch i have had,only downfall was that we only had one little side dish of veg to share between 3 and we had no spoon to dish the veg onto our plates.Appart from that the meal was lovely

We visited Hafan Y Mor Caravan Park and ventured out to eat somewhere nice to celebrate a family member completing University study.

Just finished a great meal with my parents wife and children. The choice of food was extensive, accommodating for dietary requirements and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Fantastic food in a great setting, thank you.

Firstly, the food is very, very good. One of the nicest Sunday roast I've had for a while.

We came here for Sunday lunch as a group of six. We hadn’t booked but as a reservation had been cancelled so we could be seated straight away. The waitress came and took our drinks order straight away, and after confirming they could do gluten free options, they came and took our order.

We visited on a friday night for cocktails and had a nice time, we wanted to go back for dinner but they were fully booked, would love to go back and try the food next time we are in the area.

An excellent venue to hold our event - the staff were so helpful and supportive, nothing was too much trouble for them. Will be going back again.

We popped in to take a look around as we had not been before and asked for a table for 2. They were fully booked for what looked like an amazing Sunday lunch! We were served coffees which was all we popped in for and had a nice experience. We will return for food as the plates coming out looked great!

Visited whislt on a date night with my wife and we were'nt dissapointed.Lovely stylish and relaxed ambience with friendly and accomodating waitress.It was a mexican themed menu on the night we were there which had plenty of choice.The prawns and chimichanga we chose were delicious and filling.We also had a couple of fancy cocktails to top off the evening.I look forward to visit here again.

4 of us had a 5 course meal for new year paid for a VIP booth upstairs above the dance floor. The food was excellent. The portions were just the right amount, not too much but enough to feel full. The service was excellent and staff attentive. My only suggestion would be to vary the music upstairs. We were all in the slightly "older" age range and felt quite maternal to the rest of the clientele, but fun was still had.

8 of us went for Sunday lunch last week and it was the best food we have had for a while.The crab starter was lovely and all main meals were excellent,staff lovely .Nice atmosphere with Xmas song in the background,We also went to the Michael Bubble tribute and George Michael tribute both great nights

The staff were very friendly and helpful with everything from arranging the booking (via email - excellent communication) right through to serving the food and making our party feel welcome. Food was very enjoyable and we will definitely be using again. Thank You everyone.

I've lost count how many times I've visited this fantastic place. I always take my mum who is in a wheelchair. I always book before hand and our usual table is always reserved for us. The food is fabulous and I believe everything is home made. I've never had a bad meal and always look forward to going back. I think I've tried most things that are on the menu! The homemade quiche is fabulous. So is everything else. Had the Lasagne today. Best I've ever tasted. Staff always helpful. Nerys and Chris are fantastic. I now consider them friends!! I miss the teriyaki noodles being on the lunch menu. They are delicious. I might be cheeky and ask if I can have them for lunch next time! One of the best places I've been to. Keep up the good work. I'll be back very soon.

Fabulous lasagne for lunch, hot? Tasty and not too filling. The glass of procecco helped wash it down! Left filling fulfilled and happy, not too much and not too little :0)

So my friend has had good experiences here so made the reservation. We were both very disappointed. Tasteless veggie burger, steak that was too tough. Starters grim too. Puddings- we had the brownie which was awesome. So I've given one star for brownie one star for customer service.

The food here seems to have improved - and it was already fine ! The lamb shank, hake, sirloin and fillet beef were all mouth-watering and with wine/beers also thrown in it worked out at £30 per head. Bonus of being a nightclub attached so you can have a 'bit of a boogie' afterwards to shake down those calories !

First time we have eaten here. Great food and lovely location with views over the marina basin, we will be back soon. We had lovely fish and chips with proper handcut chips and huge prawn baguette. Freindly service.

My favourite restaurant locally and the standard of food is superb. The chef only does a few tables in one setting. The selection is plentiful. Service and food first class.

Having eaten at Pen Cob and walking back to our place on Marine Parade, we decided to stop for a drink at VENU. Its got a great restaurant, so enquired if we could have only dessert and wine. Most obliging waiters, both with a good sense of humour. No problem.

Came with my husband last minute for his birthday and the amazingly kind staff fit us in last minute between bookings. The food was great and they even did a little birthday cake for my husband! Steak was great! Thank you for the lovely evening.

Looks the part but definitely isn't. Ordered 2 baguettes. Welsh cheddar with chutney came in a soggy brown baguette and grated cheese served with stale crisps and a pile of undressed salad leaves. My husband had the prawn baguette again the baguette was soggy obviously hadn't been cooked enough. We had a coffee that was fairly mediocre and a Pepsi out of a pump that was more like syrup £21 rip off.

Second time here for food and again the service let it down. The first time we never got our drinks despite repeated requests. The second time we were served a starter and main but as (presumably) all the staff wanted to finish we were left in an empty restaurant with no offer of dessert or more drinks (at 9pm). It spoilt what had been a great night. I probably wouldn't go again now as it's frustrating to have a meal out spoilt by the service. The food overall was quite good. The cocktails were great.

On holiday & decided to venture out into the local town for tea, stumbled across this place. It is a night club by night, but inside they have a beautiful 30-40 cover restaurant. I ordered the lamb shank, the lamb was beautifully cooked. For dessert, the Eaton Mess was served in a large glass dish, fruits tasted very fresh. Our server was very attentive & recommended where needed. Well worth a visit!!!

Visit the venu on many occasions, the access is fantastic for wheelchairs.

We tried to book into Dylan's in Criccieth but were told they were full so ventured into Pwllheli to see if we could find somewhere similar. Came across Venu which is situated alongside the quay with an outdoor seating area. It was early and despite the signs saying food is served after 6pm, we were told by the friendly staff that they would be happy to take out orders early (5.45). The dining area was modern, what you might call 'shabby chic' with a nautical theme. We ordered a sharing plate of nachos which was very nice. I ordered Fajitas which were served on a sizzling hot plate, my wife had the Coq au Riesling which was really tasty and tender and my daughters had pizza (hand made pizza base) and chicken salad. The food was delicious and I particularly enjoyed my side of homemade chips. Needless to say we all cleared our plates. the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We did visit Dylan's the following night and although the have a nicer venue with views to the sea and castle, the food at the Venu was far superior in our opinion.

We went in with a party of 14 for a 40th birthday meal. Food was very good and service was excellent. They couldn't have been more accommodating and the place itself is really nicely fitted out. Fantastic location in Pwllheli. Only (very minor) gripe was that the fajitas had more filling than could be fitted in the 2 provided tortilla wraps and we had to buy an extra wrap each to finish it off. Thanks for a lovely meal.

Nice meals for four of us. Service wasn't amazing which is why only 4/5. Catered for gluten free quite well too.

Miserable day here in pwllhilli so we sought refuge in this lovely eatery. Contemporary design, great bar area. Lunch overlooking the water. We were hoping to eat outside but rain stopped play! Great nachos and we all had haddock and chips! Nice wine, great company. Would like to visit at night when the menu is more extensive! Would definitely reccommend .

We visited last night after visiting last year when we were on holiday and had a superb meal. The mussels to start were nice but basically the sauce was just cream. The hake main course was cold and as they brought it out I was told there were no dauphinoise potatoes which we should have been told when we were given menus. The gin and tonics were served very differently each time. There was no one in charge and it just seemed like there were young girls who didn't know what they were doing. We were given the bill with £27 of someone else's drinks. There was no apology. I certainly won't be rushing back

Visited during a busy lunch time around 1.15 on Tuesday. Waited for lunch to be served for just over 45 minutes from placing our order with no explanation or apology. Wanted to just leave and wish we had. Poor service and not well presented or cooked meals. Other reviews I have read are so positive though. My husbands gourmet burger he said was great but both chips and onion rings under cooked, I had quiche which was overpriced as it was tiny (honestly I had to laugh when it was brought out) but priced at £9.45 with sweet potato fries. My advice would be not to go in if the resturant is very busy. It looks such a stylish and new restuarant but did not live up to its appearance yesterday. I think we may have been unlucky during our visit as other reviewers here appear to have been delighted.
