The Unicorn Bar & Restaurant in Powys

Called in for a meal based on previous reviews. Not sure where to start. Don’t like giving poor reviews however this was as poor as it gets do not believe past reviews! The place is unkempt, freezing cold and unwelcoming. Why we stayed to eat is a mystery to me so only have myself to blame! On a good note the beer was great the food however was dreadful, hot chicken wings clearly microwaved swimming in defrosted water disguised as spice which they knocked off the massively overpriced bill. The nearly £18 chilli con carne and £18 lasagne was ok but a 10 year old could have made both better for a couple of pounds. The clearly microwaved ‘home made pie of the day’ was soggy and under cooked! Be warned! Would not return under any circumstance 1/10

Life is full of regret. Regret is what I have after visiting The Unicorn Bar & Restaurant tonight. Regret, because I've lived in this area for just over 5 years and this is the first time I've been here. I've missed out so much!! What an absolutely delightful Restaurant. Welcomed by amazing staff, with a separate bar and restaurant area. I was honestly surprised with how much variety is on the menu and how good the prices were. One menu item that caught my eye was the double cooked cheesy fries. Hot dang, wow. I mean I've had cheese fries before, but they're often a disappointment. THESE fries though were worth ordering. Even without the cheese they were great. Speaking of cheese, there was a generous amount of very tasty cheese used on these. My wife and I had the Vegetarian and Beef lasagne, which were both exquisite. A wonderful night out, in an absolutely amazing restaurant with great ambience and great staff. Don't live your life in regret - don't take 5 years before you visit here. I promise you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here on the way to Dyfi bike park. Super friendly staff, room very nice, warm and comfortable, great food. They also got up early to cook breakfast for us as we wanted a early start. Will definitely stay here next time we are I'm the area.

What a disappointment! Although the staff were lovely and welcoming the food was a let down. Went with my husband, we both had the Stack Burger. Good sized portions but very greasy for our liking.

Great for a Sunday Lunch, friendly staff especially the man who carves the meat. You'll find out.👍

Such a lovely find on the way from South to North Wales on the A470. We liked it here so much we made a beeline for it on the way back home. Lovely lady serving both the bar & restaurant area. Highly recommend this place for lunch on the A470. Lots of choice & the food was top notch. Plenty of room in the car park & although there is a step in, a wheelchair could gain access with help.

Busy evening and although booked a time got order taken after another 45 minutes. No offer of desserts after waiting a while after mains cleared.

Amazing food for reasonable prices

Nice place to stop on your travels, just off the main route. Prices seemed steep so opted for sandwiches with sides. Sarnies were nice and fresh with salad and coleslaw. Advertised as coming with crisps, I had about 4 individual crisps so dont think that will stop you from buying chips! Cheesy chips were a let down, see pic. Staff very friendly and accommodating, would stop again.

Staff were so friendly. Heads up the cheese chips are literally chips with some red leister on top, grilled within an inch of its life. Seemed clean inside

Absolutely awfull service pie came out sloppy ment to be puff pastry was flat and slop meat was grey inedible we addressed concerns to the chef he then called us liars took photos of us and said he was calling the police because we wouldn't pay for a inedible meal 7 staff came out intimidating me was an awfull experience Bit of advice take criticism as you grow from it NEVER AGAIN

Lovely relaxing atmosphere friendly staff and playing my kind of music in the background 50s 60s lol already good start lol but the food was also very nice and a large amount we had starters and main unfortunately no room for dessert.we had scampi and the gammon for mains both very good .

Good service, nice food, friendly staff. Good pub food, generous portions, reasonable pricing. Dog friendly if you book a table in the bar.

This was a delightful find. It was quiet when we arrived but I suspect this eatery gets busy. We had burger, chips & Salad and Lasagne, Salad and Garlic Bread. It looked inviting, tasted delicious, the salads were really fresh and it was washed down with one of the best mixed Lime & Sodas. Well done everyone!

1st time here. Bowls club end of season dinner and presentation. The food was 1st class. Staff all fantastic. Really enjoyed the afternoon.

7 of us family went for dinner and again you didn't disappoint . Food was excellent plates were hot and service was brilliant . In sorry but I couldn't fault you . AMAZING. 2 out of the 7 meals Unicorn Yorkshire and slow cooked belly of pork 😋

The food and drinks are excellent but by far surpassed by the staff who do all they can to make visiting a delight.

The food was very very tasty and plenty of food on the plate the staff was very polite and friendly and the service was great highly recommend this place

Very nice restaurant with kind staff, lasagne was perfect. Only quibble would be they tried to clear the table whilst we were eating, but then we were a last minute walk in so that might be why.

Lovely pub. Stopped off on a long journey. They had no baby changing facilities but were more then happy to take me to a room in order to change my son in some privacy. Whilsy we didnt stay there the room i used was to a beautiful standard. Brilliant, helpful and very kind staff.

What a nice pub come across this place as was just driving passed and discovered to stop for sum luch and am glad I did 😀 stuff are friendly and the food was excellent nice an French and reliable pieced ... So if you do come across this pub than stop and enjoy sum hospitality and great food 😋

OK had to wait a while for them to take our order, but once we had our meal it was lovely.

Called by chance hoping to book a table for lunch. Lovely reception, good service and very good meal at good prices. Car park adjoining this lovely old Inn. We have stayed there in the past and again all was well.

Food was to a good standard, very tasty.

Visited here one evening while on a relaxing hen weekend, I must say the food was delicious. The portion size was unexpected in a good way, and fair prices, food was brought out promptly and the staff were lovely. We all had a lovely time, and if we are ever in the area again will be returning!

Excellent Sunday carvery followed by homemade puds.

Had the good fortune to stop here for some food, unfortunately (or so we thought) we were early and hadn't booked so they couldn't fit us in, but we bought a drink and then they also kindly managed to squeeze us in for a meal. Service was excellent, both bar staff and waiting staff. Food was excellent, circa £14 for a stacked burger and chips. Would highly recommend.

If i could place a 7 i would . Best cheese and toliet ive ever visited . And ive frequented many a watering holes .

We have never been before but heard good things about it. The gentleman who took our order was very friendly and pleasant as were the girls who delivered our drinks and food. The food was delicious and it was reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend them.

Only got to stay one night here but the staff, rooms and atmosphere was absolutely lovely. Highly highly recommend, also the location is beautiful.

It was okay. Wasn't what we expected but can't fault it just wasn't what we thought. They had no lamb or chicken dishes. I ordered the pasta dish and garlic bread and it was just alright but not bad and my husband had the chicken burger. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and that was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Food very good, but quite hot and loud inside once full.

Had a lovely family meal and few drinks. The service we recieved was fantastic and the food was delicious. Couldn't fault it. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Popped in for lunch. A bit cold, could have done with turning the heating up. Good beer. Soup was proper homemade veg, which I enjoyed.

We were visiting Trefeglyws for Xmas and this seemed to be the only pub open early afternoon that was the closest It was quite quiet but Ann the barlady was very friendly and helpful and was happy to chat to us Would def visit again if in the area.
