The Unicorn Bar and Restaurant at West End Inn in Wiltshire

Why have I waited so long before going I ask myself. Welcome was great, staff very friendly, engaging and interested to you and the food wow, wow wow!! Definitely worth a visit.

Yet another excellent meal at The Unicorn Bar and Resturant. Tonight it was a family get together. Joyce the owner explained the menu to my sister who had travelled down from Aberdeen for a short break. Choices made were Squid in breadcrumbs, Satay chicken skewers, Prawn toast, Duck with pancakes all starters. Mains included Prawn Mee Goring, Kung Po chicken, Mama Sweat and Sour chicken, Mixed seafood with Teriyaki sauce and Chicken fried rice for my 4 year old Grandson. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food which was cooked and presented perfectly Over the recent years both before and after covid lockdown we have always enjoyed our time at the resturant and have never had a bad meal. If you have never tried Malaysian or Japanese food then I fully recommend you try it. The owner will talk you through the menu and adjust items to your requirement.

Once again amazing food and service from Joyce at the Unicorn. Food is always full of flavor and cooked to how you like it, either adding or removing spices/chillies.

We've eaten in the restaurant a few times, however opted for a takeaway this time. Everything about my experience this time was amazing. The food came out really quickly. It was hot and extremely tasty and was very reasonably priced. I'm definitely making this a more regular thing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a wonderful find, visited tonight with family, this was a mid point between us. Took 90 mins to get here and was definitely worth it! The waitress was so knowledgeable about the food and welcomed questions about the menu. I requested there be no pepper or chilli used in my meal as I have a super sensitive taste, my meal was beautiful and so tasty. All the food was fresh and hot, cooked to order rather than pre prepared! We will definitely return! The sesame prawn toast was the best I’ve ever had!

Visited from a recommendation and didn’t disappoint, warm friendly staff and ordered off menu for an authentic Malaysian food experience. Portions plentiful and therefore boxed to bring home. Will definitely be returning with friends and family. Glad of the recommendation and will certainly pass it on.

Decided on a whim to try The Unicorn. We had no idea what we wanted to eat but knew we wanted something new. Our host advised us and really took time to listen to what we liked before making recommendations and didn’t just choose for us the most expensive items. Actually the prices are more like take away prices than restaurant prices. The portions were plenty big enough. We had to box some up to bring home. The food was fresh and cooked very well. It really was some of the best Asian food we have had. Will certainly be back, but next time will walk as the atmosphere is nice, so to have more drinks and stay longer would be a pleasure.

Me and my partner regularly visit for the fantastic food, great value, lovely staff and the welcoming decor. It's our go to place of choice for a very good reason and we're very happy it exists! We've taken numerous friend groups and family members with us and they've always really enjoyed it as well. Can't recommend this place enough!

When you arrive you get a welcome from Joyce!! Everybody is treated the same!! Food is superb, and she caters for everybody's taste from spicy to subtle!! Your tastes will be catered for!! Just ask Joyce!!

We visited as two couples and had a lovely evening. Our server (we didn’t catch her name) was absolutely lovely. We ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings as a starter (having had them before) but she recommended the wings from their Christmas menu and they were really good. When we ordered our main, she was really good at helping us find similar things to what we like that we hadn’t tried before. We enjoyed all of her recommendations and she made our evening very enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

We got recommended by friends to try the food-so glad we did. We've been back twice plus 2 take aways in 4 weeks! Says it all, fantastic food & highly recommended.

The food was nice but found the woman who runs it a bit rude. I asked for a simple request to leave something out, and she just said no, I have to have it how it comes. Can't imagine what people with allergies would do then. Probably won't bother going back if I'm not allowed to leave something I dislike out. Even if it was a language problem, she didn't make any effort to understand the request. A shame if she is the owner, as she's letting down the good cooks by giving the place less points for the service.

We went back to the restaurant after an absence of approx 12 months due to illness and travelling. The service was as we remembered, very informative and friendly. Joyce the owner was welcoming and it was really enjoyable relaxing with friends over a fabulous meal. We chose a mixture of Japanese and Malaysian food from the extensive menu all freshly prepared and the portions really generous. Went for a Sunday meal, hygiene standards have dropped significantly. Place smelled of strong bleach ... not very accomodating for allergies.. glasses were extremly dirty, very cold , menu was sticky. The waiter was very impatient..... poor customer service. We had to leave after drinks for Prezzo Pizza which was fantastic

We visited on a Saturday evening as a family of 4 and had another wonderful meal! The restaurant kindly set up a birthday table for my Nan- she was thrilled. The food was excellent- as always. We tried the new dishes and the butter chicken has become a new favourite. It is our favourite place to go in Melksham and we 100% recommend it to everyone

My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary dinner tonight (we had our wedding reception here a year ago), and its been so great to be back since the lock down. We feasted on all our favourite dishes - sambal sea bass, salted egg king prawns, Malaysian lobak (meat roll wrapped in beancurd skin), and braised duck. This place never dissapoint! The food is just sensational and delectable!

We eat out at the Unicorn regularly. The food is delicious and offers totally different taste sensations from the usual Indian or Chinese. We are now enjoying the new additions to the menu. Joyce and the staff always give us a warm welcome and tempt us with new delicacies. Highly recommended!

Wife and I went back to the Unicorn Saturday night for yet another visit.Joyce suggested we try some dishes from the new menu coming out as we have tried most of the other dishes, all excellent.There is a new chef in the kitchens with some fresh menu ideas.My wife had the Salted Egg King Prawn done on a butter sauce. I had to fight to try some of it as she enjoyed it so much. We visited tonight for the first time and will definitely return soon. We ordered a variety of Japanese and Malaysian dishes and were not disappointed. Stayed locally at the Conigre for our anniversary and popped over for dinner. Great menu of Chinese and Malaysian foods. Food was gorgeous and beautiful presented and very quick. Service was lovely and the price was very good for the portion size and quality. Definitely recommended!

We visited this restaurant after being recommended by the owner of the hotel we were staying at.The restaurant smelt amazing the second we walked through and we were met and seated very quickly by the lovely waitress who continued to check in with us throughout the night.We chose a mix of starts and mains (avocado sushi, yum yum chicken, seafood bento box and honey roast pork) and we were amazed by the quality and presentation. Every dish had a huge portion size - more than I could finish! Loved every bit of the experience and hoping to come again before our holiday is over- thank you for a lovely evening!

We have travelled extensively and tried many wonderful foods but truly enjoy coming home to eat here! It is our favourite place to go and the food quality is always excellent. My 87 year old Grandmother loves it as well! We have also tried the takeaway during lockdown and the food came in good time and was of a great quality. We have been through most of the menu and all of it is fresh, cooked to order and always delicious. We would recommend visiting and trying the food to everyone

Restaurant felt safe and food was amazing. In fact, it was so good that we have come back for a second visit. Gutted we are not local as would be here every week!

Expecting an order at 2030. Nothing arrived by 2100, even though Just Eat App stated delivered. Tried to call several times but no answer and when finally got through they had apparently tried to call 3 times (no call received) and that order had not been processed. So it’s now 2115 on a Saturday evening and we are having to reorder with a more reliable take away In Melksham - DO NOT RECOMMEND

Due to covid they are currently takeaway only. What a waste of money. Chicken satay - tiny amount of meat on each skewer - was so dried up, hard and stringy it was difficult to know what meat it was . Inedible. Thai fish cakes - well the only resemblance to the real thing was the shape - these were rubbery, horrible texture and again no one wanted to eat them. Main courses no better. We willNot be ordering from here again . So disappointed as the reviews all rave about the food so I’m puzzled by that! Can honestly say it was the worst takeaway we’ve had.

Having eaten numerous times with family and friends over the past 15 months. We have never had a bad meal or poor service. All food is prepared and cooked by Joyce who is always ready to discuss the many many choices on the menu. Kerry is a really conscience waitress always with a smile. Prices are very reasonable for the excellent food provided. Have already booked for Saturday 4th July. With family.

Came for a Valentine's meal with my fiance. This is our favourite place to eat, Joyce knows the kind of food we both like and so always recommends us something amazing! The starter I wanted was unavailable so she prepared me something that wasn't on the menu, and my fiance had a main that was also not on the menu. Both were absolutely incredible! My main had chicken and prawns, but I'm not a fan of prawns so of course it was fine for me to have extra chicken! Nothing is ever too much trouble and the staff are so friendly and patient. I'm looking forward to many more meals here!

Genuinely the greatest place in the world, the food and service are just ridiculously good!!! If you enjoy interesting food this is the place to go and if you want to take people that don't like interesting food, Joyce will still cook them up something they will enjoy!!! This is the millionth time i've been and will be going at least another trillion times!

Looking for a late Valentine's booking stumbled across this place here, which I was completely unaware of. I'm always a little suspicious when nearly all recent reviews are so overwhelmingly positive, but as another review said this really is a "hidden gem." Excellent friendly and helpful waitress annd huge choice of Japanese and Malaysian/Thai dishes. We went mostly Japanese and everything we had was hot, tasty and authentic. A bit more expensive than your common-or-garden Chinese restaurant perhaps but still good value for bth food and drink. I hope this place continues to thrive and we will definitely return. I've drop one mark of the rating because the background musak became a bit repetitive although it did a good job of drowning out the MTV from the pub bar. I think some set meal options would be helpful on the menu too for those who arent sure where to begin with some of the more unusual choices and what to mix and match

Visited here after hearing good reviews and wasn't disappointed. We ate some Malaysian food having been to see some friends in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the year and t really was excellent.The cook is Malaysian, so the quality of food was right up there considering this is in effect an old pub restaurant. You can choose how spicy you want it, and the portion was massive. But don't worry, they offer to package up what is left so you can eat it later.Well worth checking out, next time I may well try the Japanese.

Travelled all the way from Eastleigh In Hampshire in the Rain on boxing day for a wonderful meal and as I cannot eat chillies the menu was prepared with me in mind the rest of the family had their normal spicy meal. portions were large I am big eater and i was nearly full. Chef was great needs to write me a cookbook and the staff were superb and looked after us! will travel back up just to eat there!

As a family we enjoyed another fantastic meal here. The food was fantastic and faultless as always. The selection of food available is excellent and it is presented to the highest standard. It is a treat for the senses to eat here. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Yet another visit to the Unicorn Restaurant. This time we went for the Christmas Menu option. WOW imagine our surprise when we realised that the whole of the menu was included in the £28 price. All courses were freshly cooked and served as usual by Kerry in her friendly way. Joy the owner and chef frequently pops out to check everything is ok. Had another great meal here, the ribs (starter) were amazing and just fell off the bone. Each time I’ve been I’ve tried a different option, and never been disappointed. Staff always willing to explain what the dishes are, and make it as hot, or not, as you want to. Joy and Kerry always welcoming and we miss Kerry when she’s not in.

We had our wedding reception here on 19th, and the food spread was sensational. The serving portion was generous and everything tasted amazing. Our guests were so impressed with the quality and flavours of all the dishes. The service was great, staffs were friendly and the most helpful. This is definitely our go-to-place for Malaysian food!

Had been meaning to try the food at the Unicorn for ages but my boyfriebd is quite fussy and doesnt usually like Malaysian type food but thought we would give it a try and we didnt regret it. The food was amazing and big portions. I couldnt eat all mine but was able to have it put in a takeaway container. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back again soon.

Stumbled upon this place after googling for local sushi on a cold Wednesday evening. Set in a traditional Wiltshire pub but fully authentic Japanese and Malaysian food. I had the sushi - a tempura prawn handroll. Came as five pieces but they were huge, easily the same as 10 shop bought pieces. Given I wasn't expecting the pieces to be so big I had also ordered the eel and tuna sushi. It was so good I got through it all :) My son had the chicken Katsu with egg fried rice and my wife the Nasi Goreng. Both of which were also large portions and incredible tasty. Brilliant, friendly and attentive service from the waitress. Highly recommend and will return

I cannot praise the Unicorn highly enough. The food is fresh, the service is exceptional- massive shout out to Kerry. Our children also love it here. This is our 3rd visit in as many weeks. And the first time crispy aromatic duck has lived up to its name in all our years of eating it. You can literally taste and sense all of the ingredients. Recommend the nasi lemak and satay chicken skewers. Be back again next week!!!

Myself and my father visited again this evening and were joined by my 86 year old grandmother for the first time. The food was fantastic and faultless as always. It is our favourite place to go and a must do visit when I come back to Wiltshire. The food is consistently superb and the welcome always warm and friendly. The service is excellent, the atmosphere relaxing and the whole experience a must do.

My wife and I visited a couple of weeks ago and were very impressed with both the decor and range of choices on the menu. They offer a wide range of choices from Japanese and Malaysian cuisine. We both felt it was among the most beautifully decorated and atmospheric restaurants we have ever seen. As well as this both the size of our meals and the price of them were excellent. It's easy to see whey they are racking up good reviews and we are looking forward to visiting again.

We waren met ons beiden en kozen voor het Japanese en Malaysian Set Meal voor £ 25,95 p.p. Heerlijk om zoveel verschillende dingen te proeven die met liefde zijn bereid. Het was ook echt voldoende, geen ruimte meer voor een dessert. Echt een aanrader.

This is a hidden gem as the venue looks like a traditional not well frequented pub. The service was excellent, very friendly waitress and although kept busy she did keep making sure we hadn't been forgotten. Even the chef came out to meet the diners. The choice and quality of food was very good, a great destination if you like all types of asian food. Whilst the flavours were very authentic so was the level of heat and we did comment this may be too high for the UK pallate. Throughly recommended.

What a find! Just on our way to Cornwall when came across this treasure. The food was very authentic, tasting as good as our time in Kuala Lumpur. The beef rendang, nasi and me gorengs were delicious. I cannot recommend highly enough!

Went to The West End last night for a meal with family. I've never tried Japanese or Malaysian before so wasnt to sure what to expect... have to say it was amazing, the food is all freshly cooked to order, you can ask to have made milder or hotter, and if your not sure what it is they explain the dish, its very well presented and tasted amazing.. the staff were all really friendly and the chef even came out to say hello and introduce herself.. so if you want to try some thing a little bit different i cant not recommend this place enough and will definitely be going back..

Tonight my wife and I returned to the resturant for yet another fantastic meal at ridiculously low prices.

Amazing food, great atmosphere, nice decore and fab service. We were all impressed on how different this pub looks now. The staff are great and friendly. Wine, starters, main and dessert...we tried everything. Kids enjoyed the food as well. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you :)

Where do I start?! A group of us went here on a Sunday evening somewhat randomly as we had just always wanted to try it. SO glad we did. From the second we entered to the second we left the lady was so friendly and attentive, any questions we had she answered. The food came out so quickly considering it is prepared fresh and there was 8 of us. It was amazing. The portions were ridiculously large for what you paid, and delicious. We all ended up asking to take the rest home and have our meals for lunch the next day. I had a deep fried prawn starter and chicken noodles, my friends katsu curry was out of this world, i would recommend it all but the chicken noodles were especially delicious. Even people that tried some the next day said so. We split the bill which came to £25 per head. Which when you consider the fact we all had a starter, a main, and one or two drinks each, some alcoholic, we couldn’t complain. Cannot wait to go back here again

Really tasty food, my teenage kids loved the dumplings (gyoza) and Tempura Prawn sushi roll for starters, then the mains, wow, all polished off. The Curry Laksa had a generous amount of King Prawns in it.

Rather authentic Malaysian/ Japanese cuisine. The sushi is better and more authentic than the Japanese restaurants in Soho in London. The crispy chicken is a must try. . Rendang similar to those from far east. Serving is big. Jas the barman serve great cocktails.

We visited on a Friday night without booking. It is a converted family run public house with a malaysian/japanese restaurant section to one side (there can't be many malaysian/japanese restaurants in the UK). It is within walking distance of the town centre and has its own car park. The interior is a quirky mix of pub meets east asia. The menu similarly is split between malaysian and japanese. If i had one minor criticsm it would be to slim down the menu a bit. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had beef rending, meet goreng and maki. All of which were very tasty and authentically Asian. Portions were generous and the meal was good value at about £20 per head including drinks. We will definitely return...
