Great pub. Good beer and fantastic music

Strange place! When ordering drinks, I was asked to pay extra for a band playing. Barmaid then insisted on payment AFTER drinks were poured saying notice on door states music venue. Had I seen the notice, I wouldn't have set foot in venue. Paid £1 just to shut barmaid up. Never again!

Just think having bought a drink and and told the price includes a raffle which I wouldn't go for and then later a bowl comes round for more money. Nothing to say what it's for. Cosy pub with friendly people though. A nice change to the slug and lettuce or the art and garfunkel. No food but you could bring your own or delivered, so not all bad

Had a wonderful Easter Sunday at The Trumpet with friends. Traditional jazz pub, great atmosphere and excellent band - John Evans. I can't praise the venue enough. If you appreciate good live music in a traditional pub steeped in history - The Trumpet is the place for you.

No food here but a great fill to the place. I have been coming here for years on and off, and now, everything is right about the place.

Spent a pleasant weekday afternoon at the Trumpet. Good beer, reasonably priced and friendly service courtesy of Diane. Will definitely return.

First time here..if you like Jazz try this place..open until 2 am..every night...polite friendly staff...give it a try...

Pub is nice, good atmosphere when there is a band on ( run for cover ). HOWEVER, there is a blonde woman behind the bar who is utterly rude. She moaned at our family for leaving to go and get fresh air for 5 mins. Once they had came back, she moaned once again ( using foul language) that they didn’t shut the door! She ruined the night with my family. BE AWARE, when you purchase a drink from the bar you will be forced to buy a raffle ticket as she will put it on your total unknowingly - if not you will be frowned up on- she later on walks round with a tray asking for money for the raffle. Due to her attitude, half of the family have left the pub.

Urgent message to the brewery This is a great little Holden’s pubby pub Great live music n ale, Run by a nice chap called Musty. However Beware 🔴 there is one woman (short n rotund) behind the bar who is just nasty and the most vociferous loud mouthed person,🔴 I believe she is bullying the elderly owner! her behaviour last night was dreadful, After speaking to locals at the Wetherspoons this is a regular occurrence. ❌She is of no good to the pub, The nine of us walked out last night, Leaving drinks,❌ We won’t be back until she is gone. ( apologies we didn’t get her name) Such a shame we like the ale n live music.

Fantastic place, Sunday afternoon music, Friendly staff

You may get a bit of a nasty shock when you go. Every 15 minutes a tray is passed round and you are compelled to put money in each and every time. The staff get pretty irritated if you don’t do that. Then they have a raffle which again,is compulsory, the prize is a tonlerone. If you done believe me take a look at other people on trip advisor you will see what I mean. Edit 2024 after previous review. Still the same now so I’m told as I don’t go in any more

I've had some great nights at The Trumpet over the years. Some things to be aware of: 1. It's a cash only pub. Be prepared and take plenty of cash with you as... 2. There's a collection plate that goes around twice during the night. This is a collection for the band. If you don't give generously both times, the landlady can be really arsey with you. It's quite rude, but it's also really funny. 3. There's a raffle and you'll get a frown if you don't buy a ticket. Again, it's to help pay for the band. The prizes, ranging from a bottle of wine to some chocolate, are a nice bit of fun. Due to the layout of the pub, they can't charge on the door so, while they can be a bit pushy with the collection plate and the raffle, these are an essential and traditional part of a night at the Trumpet. Those bands have to be paid for. The pub is quirky and so are the staff! Visit with this in mind, and plenty of cash, and you'll be in for a good night.

Long time locals venue playing Jazz music most days, although the genres of music have become wider of late. Four Holdens beer on hand pull which are always in good condition.

A pub where you can ONLY PAY CASH! Quite odd in these modern ages. As soon as you order drinks (which ain't cheap) you're forced to buy raffle tickets at £2 per go. The feeling is the landlady forces you to upsell.... even comes around with a tray for tips mid-drink even though you've already forked out a fair whack, and makes you feel uncomfortable if you refused (even if you paid for the forced raffle tickets, they still want more!) All in all, the music and live bands are really good, the pub is friendly, but forced upselling is unwanted and uncomfortable

Had a grand night from the minute we walked through the door the lovely landlady couldn't do enough for us. Enjoyed the ale & the band (who were just what my Pink Floyd t-shirt asked for!!) A relaxed atmosphere & even the landlord got up to have a spot on the bongo drums 🥁 A welcoming & intimate venue which I'll have no hesitation in visiting again. Thank you 😊

Probably not a fair review review, but a good singer on but had to wait to get served until the chip shop order was dished out

It was Bastille Day.. so French Jazz from Tim Amann with Musti on vocals, plus a variety of Cheeses, Baguette and Seafood served by Musti's partner. Excellent.. food is not normally served, so a special evening

Went in ordered 3 drinks landlady basically forced 3 raffle tickets on me lol..felt robbed..apparently it was to pay for 2 old fellas playi g some tunes..be aware because i was told she does this all the time..avoid you have been warned lol

I've only been here for the open mic nights on Thursdays but I'm in love with this place. Very chill, friendly vibe, and very encouraging when I play songs for the open mic night.

Quality live music costs, so please be prepared to make a contribution to the tray which is passed around and consider purchasing a raffle ticket to help support the bands. The Trumpet is a Holden's pub, and their Special, Golden Glow and Bitter are the usual ales on sale, occasionally another Holden's ale may make an appearance. With few decent pubs remaining in Bilston, The Trumpet has got to be one to try. Weekdays it is open 12noon until early evening, then from 7-7.30pm until closing time (though will stay open right through if there is demand). Weekends The Trumpet is open all day from 12noon - 11pm.

The pub smells very musty. The lady that runs it isnt very nice either and My friend (a woman)was threatened by a little aggressive man waving drum sticks at her! If youre a group of women go elsewhere. .

Absolutely fantastic pub...been going to this place for many many years? Brilliant atmosphere..really friendly customers all enjoying live music ( FROM JAZZ TO BLUES & various other musical styles) nearly every night of the week..propper good beers and tremendous gaffers running it👍 there's not many places like this about so do yourself a massive favour and get there and enjoy 👍👍

What a fantastic place. Great beer and music. All of the punters are super friendly. A thoroughly enjoyable evening The only issue I have is the almost annoying landlady who is rather over zealous with the collecting of cash for the band. I understand that it pays for the band. Even after buying 2 stripes of raffle tickets and putting over £5 into the collection I was still being harassed for more cash. Why they cannot just have an entry fee is beyond me. In That said ot really is a great pub and I recommend it, it's a great pub

This place is amazing. Great live music, I saw an excellent Jazz band (Tim Amann with Sam Rogers) playing standards & some modern stuff & then the Martian Social Club the next day (kind of Zappa). The owners are really welcoming & friendly, infact the whole pub is friendly. Don't forget to buy a raffle ticket. Beer is good price BUT take cash as NO CARD MACHINE 🙂

Popped in for the first time for a quick pint,, I admired the interior decor which was adorned with photographs of legendary musicians,, this is a pub I highly recommend for people who love live music,,and obviously real ale,, beers are mainly from the Holdens Brewery

The Trumpet is by far my favourite pub good music nice people. great beer great atmosphere and a great sound. A single room pub that is not allowed to charge on the door for performances so they collect the band fees via taking a tray around and running raffles.The management work very hard to put on good entertainment for their customers.

My Wife, Frances and I have enjoyed many evenings at The Trumpet over a number of years, whether for having a "quality" drink, or to enjoy the Jazz when available and provided by the most talented musicians, and Singers. We appreciate their regular attendance at The Trumpet and feel it is only fair to show appreciation by contributing to a collection of cash and the purchase of raffle tickets (not solely with the wish to win a prize) - although these are provided by the Licensee - but for the proceeds to also be shared by the musicians - some of whom may not only be giving up their time and talent, but travelling costs also.! The Trumpet is unique: The friendly atmosphere, and the "Bon Ami" and the feeling of a safe environment. One more comment: The Bar Staff work extremely hard, over many hours to ensure that all Customers are made to feel comfortably seated and served. Also thanks to "Musti" for his drumming and songs. Great afternoon or night out with live Jazz music in Bilston. Donations are asked for on the tray for the band as it is free entry into the venue. The beers and ales are good too, what's not to like.

Musty the gaffer absolute superstar makes everyone feel welcome and keeps a brilliant drink.... and that come from a bar manager too ! I would recommend taking a visit to the trumpet 🎺!!!

Not good at all. I would said the only good thing is the decoration. Honestly people are so RUDE. I called earlier asking how much it costed. I was told it was free entrance, and would only pay for the bar and eventually give some contribution for the band. I was with my family so one of us paid for everything, we had 3 beers at the bar and a Pepsi. Later the bartender was passing by with a tray for the contributions for the band. The one of us that was paying for everything gave her all the change he got. She started shouting at us saying the we all had to pay for the band. WE DID PAY. I told the story and she literally dropped the tray on the table shouting and making such a scene. Honestly it was AWFULL. The band is good, I liked the sound of it and was talking about coming again before the whole thing. Will never happen. Shame.
