Hi TOKYO in Wolverhampton

I had an amazing experience at Hi TOKYO restaurant. The dishes were bursting with authentic flavors and beautifully presented. The service was outstanding — the staff were warm, respectful, and attentive. The chef’s expertise really shines through in every bite. Easily the best Japanese cuisine in town!

Never going back again…! Form my 1st review giving 5 star a year ago vs 1 star if I could give less I would! Friday 28th March I came with my son after giving this place a 3rd chance as I’ve noticed since Christmas they have gone down hill! I ordered a ramen and when it came it was luke warm I asked the waitress should it be this cold shouldn’t it be pipping hot as I’ve had it before she didn’t understand me and she didn’t she go and query this with the chef.. I just ate it anyways as I was hungry and I was like fine! My son had the fries and chicken nuggets. Fast forward exactly 2 hours later my tummy felt off and I felt very unwell I thought let me sleep it off.. morning comes lo and behold!! I vomited up what I ate at the restaurant the night before this was after brushing my teeth! From Christmas time thier food had felt off as one of my fave dishes was the pork and kimchi stew soup but the last time it tasted like tomato soup it wasn’t hot and spicy and no tofu or seaweed was ain’t the soup and rice was stale.. when I again mentioned this to the waitress she didn’t fully understand and apparently they changed rice .. and since then it’s not been the same as I was really excited for the authentic Japanese with a splash of Korean dishes based in Wolverhampton as it’s very long to travel to Birmingham to get some of those dishes. If they don’t fix and improve fast I wouldn’t be surprised it closes. But due to what feels like food poisoning I will not unfortunately be back neither will I be recommending this place. I might need to remove my original post as it’s very saddening it’s come to this! EDIT — The audacity of suggesting it’s what I ate earlier in your response below. No it was not I ate toast form breakfast, a packet of crisps for lunch and your food was my main food as I’m calorie deficit anyways the point.. I ate your food, I felt unwell quickly after and vomited by the next morning and as I respond to your feedback I’m still feel unwell and I haven’t eaten but drank water due to the sick feeling I’m still suffering from. When I vomited it was your food that exited out my mouth I should have taken and picture and posted it to! Yh your not lasting your food has gone down and the audacity of blaming what I had earlier is rude

Beautiful food the and the seafood soup is delicious

Went today with my sister for lunch and I must say it was pretty nice and the food was great, ate everything with no regrets. The staff was also pretty welcoming and respectful although little. Overall I would recommend this place if you are going in with a small group of friends that enjoy listening to popular japanese songs and eating good food, very nice experience.

Went here with 2 friends of mine and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of our experience. Amazing food and atmosphere, served by an attentive waiter named Dipa. Would 100% go again.

Unfortunately I had to give 3/5 here due to poor quality of kimchi soup recently. I have been a loyal customer for a year now and it is such a shame that they reduced the quality of kimchi soup like very thin with a lot more water and no seaweed as it used to have. It used to be so delicious with more flavour and kimchi. Seaweed salad is one of the favourites but there is lately no dressing there. I hope Hi Tokyo will try to maintain the quality to keep the loyal customers. Edit: Thank you for acknowledging this and responding to my review. Really appreciate this and will definitely order again. Overall Hi Tokyo is the best sushi place in Wolves.

Have eaten here before and the food was really good. Ordered a takeaway and they are too busy prioritising Uber orders rather than dealing with customers that are stood in front of them. Food was cold by the time I got home within 10 minutes from the restaurant, they kept saying they would call back and never did. When I called the lady hung up! Absolutely disgusting service and attitude towards customers. Given their prices would have thought a call back would be a minimum!

Fantastic japanese + korean restaurant, would 100% recommend. Menu is gigantic and delicious, especially the teriyaki chicken and the prawn tempura maki 🌟

The food tasted good but it was all cold when it was delivered. I understand part of the food (sushi) is cold but majority of the food ordered was hot items and I’d expect them to still be warm when they’re delivered.

i have only ordered food from here but there’s a large range, the food is amazing! but the only reason i put 4 is because if you order anything cold for takeaway it will end up hot like the sushi, drinks etc i had to throw some nigiri’s away bc they were so war but other then that its good

Cannot recommend enough. Food is always piping hot and amazing. (Recommend the korean spicy soup..perfect for cold weather) Price is fair for the amount of food you get and the quality. Hope these stay around for years to come.

Had a great dining experience here with my partner. It had only recently opened when we went and we wanted to try some authentic sushi. So glad that we came here because it was absolutely incredible. We got 2 sushi platters and they were prepared perfectly, very fresh and came presented on boards to look like a miniature garden and a bridge. Staff were friendly, our server and the chef both thanked us as we left and we went out with a smile on our faces. Would definitely recommend going here if you’re looking for good sushi/asian cuisine.

Fantastic little Japanese restaurant in the middle of Wolverhampton, top quality traditional dishes, extensive menu choices. Waitress worked very hard (as did the chef I'm sure but he was behind the scenes). Seems to be frequented by students (near campus) and a couple of Japanese groups so that says it all to me about the food quality and the reasonable prices. 2 of us ate loads and with a beer and a can of pop all for £40. Thank you.

Quality of the food was excellent and we really enjoyed our stay. We got surprised when we wanted to pay. The only payment method was via QR code which led to a web page to pay with credit card or Apple Pay.

The food was ok. Little disappointing to be truthful. The soup base came in one container and the noodles in a separate one. The soup was somewhat hot, but when pouring onto cold noodles, the soup had cooled down quite a-bit. And also, there wasn’t much topping with noodles. Great idea by them but even the taste, didn’t seem authentic (I grew up in Japan). Maybe I am being to picky now. But overall, very expensive for what you get and it was not the best.

First time ordering from Hitokyo and all i can say is that i wasn't expecting to be spending a fortune on something so bland, Nevermind the portion sizes.. If the food was tasty i would not bat an eye lid towards the portion.

Been here numerous times and tried numerous dishes. This is certainly my favourite restaurant in Wolverhampton since service is quick, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is great!

Avoid the eel, for me it tasted off. The Korean honey mustard chicken made up the difference. In hindsight I would have ordered the BBQ beef donburi instead.

Yet again, the free advertised item (free fried vegetable dumplings when you spend £30 or more) was missing from the delivery. To date we have never received the free item as offered (and for which we have met the prerequisite criteria).

lovely food but being honest , disappointed with the ribs. They were very fatty, cut up into small pieces and just not that tasty. The fish and chicken dishes were beautiful.

Best meal you can get in Wolverhampton hands down. I'm from California USA, and this was some of the best sushi and Japanese food I've had in a long time with prices that easily beat CA. Super fresh fish on their specialty rolls. The beef and chicken teriyaki skewers were 3 pounds each! And the steamed edamame was perfection. Not the tiniest bit soggy! 10/10 would go again and again!

Me and my partner go here regularly as it is one of our favourite restaurants. the menu is huge, we have tried many types of sushi and other dishes and enjoyed everything! it’s a special treat for us to come here. never been disappointed. prices are very reasonable as well! i recommend any sushi that has tempura prawns, and the teriyaki salmon bento box.

Loved everything I ordered, tasty and overall lovely, however I normally do get chopsticks and soy sauce packets which I didn’t this time but it’s fine I did get soy sauce in a tub which lasted me :)

Ordered through Uber eats as a treat for my 10 year old son this evening…..what a disappointment…..the sushi was falling apart….the contents of the ramen came separate from the broth…the contents were moulded to the packaging and could not be separated….the broth container could not be opened even if I had the strength of Arnold Schwarzenegger (yet somehow was leaking from somewhere) the chicken was barely cooked and the same with the prawn tempura which were soggy and undercooked in the centre

This is the best restaurant in Wolverhampton. The staff always have a smile and are very polite. The food is beautiful and delicious, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The restaurant is equipped with professional high chairs for children, and my child loves dining in one. We'll definitely come back next time.

Japan is the home to Kobe and Wagyu beef - I suppose that Wolverhampton is closer to Northampton and so the beef had the taste and texture closer to reject shoe leather.

Had a late dinner here with a friend, it was our first time here. The food was delicious and great for the price. I had the beef stew with rice and a tuna rice ball 🍙 I would definitely come here again and order a bento as it looked super delicious. The service was a little slow but the food was worth the wait.

A few months ago had a lovely experience with a waitress that spoke excellent English. Went back the other day… it was like playing charades… plus the place was dead… I think it would be good if you employed waiters and waitresses that had a basic command of the Langauge. The food was still excellent though. It’s a pity. Service is an important part of the experience..

My wife wanted Maki & Ramen before going to the theatre. We arrived just before 6pm & it was quiet. We ordered the food & the starters for us both were delicious. The Ramen & Bento box arrived soon after & was tasty & filling. Service was great & the staff are polite & friendly. Prices were very reasonable & the only fault is that they don’t take cards so I had to get cash from an ATM down the street. Great service & will definitely be back again.

This was our second time having food over there and the food was delicious, quiet environment, reasonable price, friendly staff as well as tried some traditional clothes. I would highly recommend to give a try over there.

2024.03.30 Overall, it is acceptable. It is a good Asian restaurant to find in Wolverhampton. The price is not too expensive. The average price is ￡10 per person (excluding drinks). The tempura rice has a variety of vegetables and 2 shrimps. The rice is a bit Hard, herring a bit salty.

sushi not using Japanese rice lemon peel was found in the maki, which is not acceptable If you want to pay by card, you have to download their China payment app.

We've found a new place to eat. I would recommend dining in for the best experience as a lot of this food doesn't travel well. Food is amazing we've been back a few times now!

Chopsticks would be a nice touch, as well as more dessert and drink options. A bit pricier than other sushi places.

I ate at Hi Tokyo last night for a late valentines date with my bf, and I honestly had a great time. The service was on point, we didn’t wait long for our food and the food was sooo good. I had salmon maki and my partner had chicken dumplings as starters and the rice was so soft and yummy. For mains we had Katsu chicken (really crispy) and noodles (noodles are a separate dish and the portion was huge) and Omlette rice (giant omlette ball full of rice) and it was lovely. Was so full we couldn’t handle a pudding 😂 only downside is that the menus aren’t linear and a bit difficult to follow but otherwise i’d 100% recommend to japanese cuisine lovers.

Food is great and tasty. Worth the price. Love their ramen, it’s good for two people. Place is small and orders for a family is not served all together nor served at an adequate time so that group or family can eat together. One time, my son and I finished our meal but my other son is still waiting for his food. But been here several times already since we liked their food. I love their kimchi rice.

Sadly I'd already ordered before I realised I had already had a bad experience with this place and this time was no different. I ordered a dish with salmon, seabass and crabsticks. I recieved none of those. I got one king prawn and about 7 or 8 cockles and mussels. The food was inedible and it was just watered down curry and slimy upon noodles. This time though I got four fishballs instead of 3 and the kimchee was just wilted and sad looking. Cost me just under £24. I absolutely WILL NOT be using this place again. It was an insult to both Japanese and Korean food and I might as well just thrown my money out with the food into the trash. Please stop providing a takeout service because you are ripping people off and it's not fair. I'm half chinese and have worked in quite a few Asian places and although it's not the same food I do know the cost and how things are made. I didn't expect a discount but what I did expect is fresh ingredients and the meal I paid for.

Our server was so lovely .The place was really clean and the food was delicious . highly recommend the avocado and salmon salad . We will be back !

The first time I ordered was a disaster, not because of the restaurant, was the driver, who refused to deliver the food after going to the incorrect address. I decided to give you another chance, and I have to say the food was amazing. We will order more often, definitely! Thank you!

Went there Tuesday around lunch time. We were greeted warmly by our server Dipa. We ordered Seared salmon maki, chicken katsu omelette rice and bbq beef kimchi don. The food was excellent and made to order plus the service was great too!Dipa our server was very attentive and very polite. Will definitely be back.

Avocado maki and the drink were really nice, will order again. Doriyaki - I prefer the custard filled ones and wasn't a fan of this style. Would be great if you could add Mochi to the menu too, mango or vanilla. Delivery was a bit late on the day.

Food was of good quality but was a little short on quantity. Staff pleasant and helpful when you pointed to things on the menu but was a little language barrier but sure that will improve with practice. Would I go back? Yes I would.

this is such amazing Japanese food! the service is so good and the young waitress (not too sure of her name) was so kind and helpful and catered to our needs! We had a decent amount of food and although it came out at different times it was all fresh and delicious and portion size is decent, defo recommend! x

The temake was small and not much pork in the Cha Siu Tonkotsu Ramen. The noodles, veg, egg and pork were cold in a separate tub but soup was hot. Soup tasted medioca. The half egg was perfectly cooked and looked perfect with orange grey centre and you can tell it was marinated in soya sauce. Would have liked a full egg. Average, will be going back to my normal place for Asian food. I just wanted to try a different place.

Delicious Japanese beef rice bowl. Best gyuudon I have had outside Japan. Nobody else was in the restaurant around 15:00, so it was very quiet but that's fine with me. Very fast and polite service.

Always get the cha siu ramen whenever I want something hearty. Soup needs warming up first though but doesn't take anything away from it. :D

Very kindly delivered to us this evening, despite stating that they were not offering delivery on Just Eat and Deliveroo. The food was just perfect. The okonomiyaki was just like we had in Japan. The chicken teriyaki bento box was delicious. The Japanese style fried chicken nuggets (karaage) was awesome. Very, very happy with our food and will definitely be paying you a visit to eat in 😊

Advertised if you spend more than £30 you get a free chicken katsu. No Chicken katsu arrived.

The containers aren’t spill proof so my curry the main part of the dish spilled out creating a messy experience trying to salvage what was left of my food when I opened the cling film. The chicken wasn’t really to my liking And the coating of the fried chicken was falling off it. For the amount of money I paid for the food it wasn’t worth the price at all

I would not recommend to go with kids if you have a family as they don't turn on the heater at all so customers will always need to keep the coats on when dinning. Food was ok - pretty much British style Japanese. The rice in certain dishes don't taste fresh enough and covered with lots of tapanyaki sauce which it makes it too salty or sweet. I am sorry to say it doesn't taste like proper Japanese all time.

Gyosa was cold, and the sushi was some of the worst I've had. Covered in mayo and not at all fresh tasting. Also very expensive for what I received. Having recently returned from Japan, I think I can speak authoritatively about this. I'll stick with iso sushi from now. Much fresher and straightforward sushi there and much better value for money across their menu. Sorry hi Tokyo, but this is a honest appraisal.
