The Travellers' Rest in Gedling

We went expecting a slightly more upmarket pub meal as it used to be but we left rather underwhelmed. My crispy squid was ok but for nearly £7 I expected a little mire squid. My wife’s crispy chicken was perfectly ok and rather nice. My chicken burger meal was average at best. The burger itself was rather small, the onion rings were luke warm and the skin on fries were like cardboard, not good for £15.50. My wifes steak and ale pie was more pastry than steak and ale, it was very large but as said too much pastry. I ordered a soda and lime to drink, I did question my order but was confirmed as the correct drink. It looked like bitter lemon, tasted like bitter lemon, smelled like butter lemon but was lime!!!

I often visit the Travellers Rest and I cannot rate the staff and the food enough. Always welcoming and they cannot do enough for you. Thanks again guys 😊

Staff were welcoming and friendly and very willing to help. Felt as though the food was quite overpriced, had the chicken burger and only got a small handful of chips, another person with me had the steak and ale pie which only had 3 pieces of meat in it - the rest being gravy. For £16-£17 each you’d be wanting your moneys worth. Chips were also cold, waited happily warmed them up but would have liked them hot the first time round. Nice atmosphere but food definitely needs improving.

Perfect atmosphere , fantastic food and amazing service, very friendly staff, Hannah you were 10 out of 10, pub was very clean . Amazing views and love it as it’s dog friendly

I’ve been to the traveler rest before and the food was very nice And the staff are very friendly.. But Easter Monday the food was very poor,cold and very dry. And I asked the waitress a question and she rolled her eyes But other member of the staff was very nice. I do hope things will improve.

The menu has changed and the portion sizes are very small. Garlic mushroom starter consisted of a small slice of bread with 2 mushrooms on. Side order of cheesy garlic bread was a very small slice too! Not at all value for money!! The chips on main course didn’t seem fresh. Meals I have had here in the past have been good but this one was poor in comparison. Even the waitress said that quite a few people have complained about the menu!! The menu needs improving and so does the portion sizes. I won’t be visiting this restaurant/pub again.

My wife and I had the meat and fish sharer. Then the lambshank pie followed by the salted caramel sundae for dessert. Every morssal was delicious. The service was also very good. The girls were courteous and friendly. The whole experience was delightful and then to get a blue light discount too made it even better. We'll done everyone. I would recommend the Travellers to anyone

Booked a meal at 13.00 on the 7 March 24 on line which was easy to do. The meal we ordered was good, the starters of garlic mushrooms and Korean chicken strip were excellent. My wife and I had the special belly pork dish which i enjoyed but my wife thought that it may be more traditional but and thought it was ok. The quality of the food was very good and the service too. The people who work there are very attentive without being too intrusive and very friendly. Overall a very good experience one to which we will do again. thank you.

Had a nice lunch today at The Travelers Rest. The food was very good, we had the Seafood grill off the specials, the salmon with new potatoes, a chicken ciabatta with a side of halloumi fries. The service was friendly & efficient.

Lovely place good food, good staff easy to find lots of parking my little boy loved the chicken, my Nan loved the scampi and I loved the burger

We visited for the Burns night menu on 25th January. It was a busy night and the place was full when we arrived…the earliest we could get a table was at 20:30..testament to its popularity. £28 for a 4 course menu and it didn’t disappoint...

Absolutely fantastic breakfast! piping hot, perfectly cooked, gorgeous runny yellow yolk in our poached eggs, lovely fresh coffee with cream, and boiling hot English breakfast tea. The bacon was lovely and crispy, the sausages were great quality too and the plates were lovely and warm....

Food is usually second to none here but, both our lasagnas were extremely dry, well overcooked. Taste was there, shame about the dryness. Staff as usual were brilliant and the service was good.

Popped in after a dog walk, was seated immediately and served, the food was excellent. Tara our staff member was friendly knowledgeable and accommodating ( even though she seemed to be the only staff member on) nothing was too much trouble. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Our first night out in a restaurant since before Christmas 20. Booked a table which was in a nice area, it wasn’t too busy however we waited over an hour for the starter. The main came about 20 minutes after and was very nice. We did have to call the waitress over a couple of times to ask for drinks so we didn’t get much attention and there was no apology about the waiting. Service wasn’t great but the food was nice. I do visit regularly and it was the first time I have had this issue so would assume it’s a one off and won’t stop me from going again.

I had wanted to go for a while and we were meant to visit prior to first lockdown. We eventually got to visit on the 9/6 after booking for me and a friend. There was a little wait to get seated but once seated we were served by beau quite quickly. She did state their was a wait for drinks but it really didn’t take long. We ordered off the supper club menu which was 2 courses for £13.99. I had the gammon which was lovely and Eton mess sundae for dessert which was gorgeous. The whole bill for three drinks, two supper club menu offers and side order of mushrooms was £35 which I thought was very reasonable. It was busy and the staff did seem rushed off their feet but our server was very attentive. There was Covid protocol in place and one way in and one way out. I would definitely return as the food was lovely.

Slight confusion at the start. We hadn't booked but the lady said there was a table for the 3 of us inside.But when we went inside the gentleman said no tables available and because of how busy it was. They were not taking food orders.I thought the gentleman was rude and appeared not to be able to cope with our busy it was.He gave us a table in the end (when the lady said to him we could have a table.) It wasn't suitable for one of the members of the group as it was just a bench. With no back rest. We asked the gentleman if we could have a different table. Which he seemed not to happy with our request. The pub was taking food bookings and the meals came out quicker than we expected.Nice food. Expensive drinks.

Came to The Travellers Rest on Wednesday evening for a family meal. We will definitely be returning. The food was delicious, absolutely perfectly cooked squid and amazing rib eye steak from the specials menu. The staff are all so attentive especially Beau who was our server, so friendly and charismatic. Overall a lovely evening had by all, thank you.

Excellent evening at The Travellers tonight, first meal out in 15 months and shall be returning. Felt extremely safe, food was amazing. Beau looked after us and chose Boe passionfruit gin for me which was perfect. Keep up the good work!

Lovely meal out with the family. Food was delicious, especially the pork belly special, and the caramel banana waffle was incredible! The staff are always super helpful and riendly, despite being exceptionally busy and it all added to a wonderful atmosphere at the pub. Cannot recommend this place enough, and can't wait to come back again!

Went for a light lunch today and I was truly impressed with the way the staff worked. They all seemed to work in tandem and I was served by 4 different members of staff. All were very helpful and especially Tara who couldn't do enough to make my stay welcome. The pub is very spacious and has plenty of choice of tables inside and outside. Good choice of real ales aswell.

Easy booking, awesome food everytime my mum and I visit. The staff are always helpful. Really good to be able to take my mum to such a lovely place which is accessible too.

Really nice lunch, great food and great service, especially from Hannah. All our mains and desserts were tasty. The starter sharing platter was very nice (tho be warned, the red peppers are hot chilli peppers, not bell pepper!). Just one comment, a couple more vegetarian options would be nice, thought the halloumi and chips was excellent. They even gave us lovely weather!
