Excellent private room for functions.

Been in a few times a nice pub with great tv for sports, staff very friendly and a good service, only 5 mins walk from me which is good, and I'm looking forward to coming in on Sunday when jazz is on with the coffin dodgers!

My son was part of a second stage group ski lesson, he has had both Ben and Arron who were lovely, they gave clear instructions and support throughout the session. My husband and I used the Coffee shop which was clean and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Only go here during england matches but the atmosphere is always spot on with the big screen tv, they put plenty of staff on so you never sat at the bar waiting. Iv never had food from the pub as i think there out sourse it so this year its a pizza van.

Should be an option to say I've not eaten here so had to put 5 stars. I've only been in on a couple of Sunday nights to play pool. Have darts as well. Really good bar staff, Heineken glasses kept ice cold in the fridge. Smart place, reasonably priced, good outside area. Will have to try food at some point but overall not a bad place at all

The water for the help yourselve tea on bar tasted of chemicals disgusting .Complaints were met by the barmaid with a so what attitude. A nurse friend of mine said it taisted like germanelen. Buffey was good and room was clean and tidy

We had a 60th birthday party here in the function room recently. Great function room with a private bar, all staff very welcoming and helpful and great prices. But I want to say a massive thank you to the manager, a family member had a medical episode and required an ambulance. The manager helped so much by calling and passing all information over while family members stayed and helped my relative. The whole family are very very grateful for your help 🙏

We had a lovely night celebrating a 60th birthday. Such a great function room. Thank you to Trish and the team for all of your help.

Wlthos is the 2nd time we have had a family party in the function room. The venue is perfect and very friendly with a private bar, we had a wonderful time. The staff were great. We will rebook again for pur next celebration

Decent pub with all the usual suspects on offer. Great staff and service with sports on show and big events televised. If darts is your thing, look no further as I believe that there's more dart boards here than anywhere in Staffordshire. There's even a pool table, too.

Manager needs lessons in customer services. very rude. Think its disgusting that the pub put an EXTRA £3.50 per head on party food, when the caterer charges £5.00 per head,total £8.50 per head, and still charge you for the function room. They dont tell you its cash only either to pay for party food and function room.

Visit it with scooter club, good wheel chair access and toilet. Pleasent atmosphere with out door under covering with heaters

Shared a friends party in the longe function room. Big room, own bar and staffing, own catering but fab might had by all. Would recommend as a a great place to celebrate a special occasion with friends and family xx

Had the pleasure of organising and attending a wedding reception at the Thistleberry on Fri 2nd September. Mac and Trish are wholly accommodating, professional and very friendly. The facility is ideal, lots of room in the 'function' area, great bar staff - a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

Recently went to my friends wedding reception in the function room. Good size and staff were friendly and welcoming. Dancefloor space was quite big too. Small bar but no ques to get drinks as staff were quick to fill orders. Ladies toilets were easy to find too.

Great place to meet up with friends and family friendly atmosphere

There is a full review on Facebook, as I’m not character bound. There was many issues with the set up in the day and pub being locked when they said that would go and set up all day. And there was no mention of a noise limiter when we booked. When we arrived to finish the set up, with the band, we finally felt slightly more relaxed. That was, until, the band started sound checking and every time the drummer pressed his pedal the noise limiter cut off the power to any amps. For almost two hours the band tried and tried to make the set up work, to ensure that they held out their end of the promise. Unfortunately, it resulted in the drummer being unable to play and the band having to play as a trio. However, during the night, any slight bit of singing from the guests would tip the noise limiter over the edge and result in the amps being cut off, meaning that they could be half way through a song and the power would cut off. At the time of booking, there was no mention of the noise limiter or that there would be such issues of the noise was too loud. The landlord/manager, was asked about noise limiter , to which he said “I can’t turn it off, as we are being monitored for sound”. Now I could say that was true, however, in the bar, there was a disco taking place, which was louder than the band (who had to play quietly to not knock the overly sensitive noise limiter out) no noise limiter was present in the bar, and the disco music contributed towards the noise limiter in the function room due to the disco being very close in proximity. So if that statement was true about the sound being monitored, surely, the disco noise would be capped and wouldn’t be twice as loud as the band were? (At times we could hear the disco in the background of the band!) I had personally asked to speak to landlord/landlady/manager about this (I went around to the bar side, where the disco was) to be told that he’d been asked questions and walked away. Funnily enough the landlord/landlady/manager was nowhere to be seen all night. I had also asked if we could dim the lights in the function for the disco lights that had been brought in. This request and reply was asked twice during the night. The bar staff said “we don’t think we can, we’d have to ask the front of house manager” I did ask if they could, but no sign of the front of house manager or even a courtesy reply to us explaining, why, in a room where functions take place (and their resident disco DJ’s with disco lights on) that the lights couldn’t be dimmed or switched off. Seems a very petty item to moan about it, but I’ve seen no party venues have a full set of internal lights on whilst people are dancing. I suppose the only saving grace to having the lights on all night was that when the noise limiter knocked the power out, the disco lights went too, which meant at least we could see whilst the band reset the power. The noise limiter was an absolute disgrace and ruined the evening, it couldn’t even handle an Amazon echo studio speaker on half volume with people singing at the same time. (That also cut the power out). The lack of management presence, at the time angered, frustrated and upset me, but on reflection, it actually shows me that my custom wasn’t that welcome and nor appreciated. Which is highly infuriating, as the cost of the room, isn’t that cheap, and the money that was put behind the bar last night, was probably of a decent amount. I would never book this venue again. A lot of time and effort went into to planning a party for two people who work tirelessly, and selflessly for others, I feel beyond upset that a catalogue of mistakes took place yesterday/last night and the party didn’t run as smoothly as I’d hoped and planned. This review will probably fall on deaf ears, a lot like our requests for last night, however it may make potential customers consider twice before booking. If you want a recommendation for a band or a hog roast though, I know of them both who went above and beyond all night! So thank you Stepping Lane and The Giggling Pig Company.

As we were first ones through the door and as we had arrived straight from a funeral it was hard to judge the usual atmosphere of the pub. However the pub was clean and pleasant, the staff were cheerful and helpful, the funeral buffet was excellent and the beer was good, what more can you ask for. 👍

Poor service, complained about a Moretti being very poor quality, at which point the bartender proceeded to charge me for a change of beer, due to "stock reasons", opposed to putting it on wastage, or checking the barrel or even tasting it, very disappointed.

Very enjoyable, shame its not any bigger but brilliant music, people atmosphere welcome to the best night out ever.

Friendly place. Stock Fentimens Ginger Beer . Local ukulele group meets in large well ventilated back room. No noise from bar. Good car park and clean toilets. All boxes ticked.

Great, friendly staff. Felt very safe. Encouraged to sanitise and social distance when inside. One way system in place to avoid excess contact with other customers.

The landlord, landlady and staff are friendly, helpful, always have a smile and a warm welcome. The pub itself has been very professionally set up to ensure safety during the current crisis. Sadly no Stella, but plenty of choice. Always a good atmosphere even in current coronavirus times

Attended on this occasion for a funeral but it is always a pleasant welcoming pub. Did not have any of the buffet but looked very nice.

It's a great pub used it and worked there for many years unfortunately the brewery has decided to make the landlord change his wine all I can say is awfull what a shame those who don't actually use the pub are dictating what products to sell why oh why don't they listen will still come to support landlord until he moves on

Celebrated my retirement at the Thistleberry and I must say what a lovely friendly place it was ,the room is a good size and the buffet was lovely many thanks to all the staff x

There for a friend's 40th tonight. The staff on the bar were amazing and polite. My son was cheeky and kept running behind the bar but they took it in good humour and made a game of it with him.

I recently held my 50th Birthday party here. It was a perfect venue! The staff were excellent, friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The buffet was lovely too. All in all I can't thank John and the rest of the team enough for making my special occasion even more special! Me and my husband will be frequenting the thistleberry more often in future 😀

Doesn't do food- which I think it is missing out on with most pubs now providing a menu of some sort. However the place is spotless following the refurb, the staff are very friendly, it has a pool table (big bonus for me!!) And there's a TV screen on just about every wall. Well worth a trip if you fancy watching sport at the pub.

This place has had a fine refurbish and a good selection of ales, beers and lagers. Friendly staff and host, function room has been transformed from a ‘70’s style village hall to a premier venue for any occasion.

Nice friendly atmosphere, there is a good sized function room with a well stocked bar, they have bingo on a Thursday, karaoke once month on a Friday, a singer or group most Saturday, there is a jukebox,darts, and pool in the bar, the lounge is stylish and cozy, there is also good wheelchair access, carpark and seating area, also the landlord and his staff always a happy pleasant smile on their faces, I gave the Thistbery five stars, it deserves it

Was having a lovely evening until the singer's friends/husband/partner descidided to kick off at bar owner & customers at bar who were minding their own business for no reason. Customers who were standing at bar would not recommend singer again for the reason of the company she shared but she was a good singer shame about the company.

Went there for a tea meal, the soft drinks where good, beer on tap fine but the food let it down.
