Arrived at our table previously booked. The owner said hello, gave menus then ignored us. The restaurant was not busy. The owner then stood near to us and appeared to be clearing up in a leisurely manner. We waited another 15 minutes but no acknowledgement for even a drink on a hot evening. We decided to just walk out as thought it was rude to be just ignored, especially when the restaurant was not busy. The owner said 'okay bye'!!

Sadly for us, this will be our last visit until standards at this restaurant are a lot higher! The restaurant appears very worn and in desperate need of an uplift. The manager/cook was drinking wine whilst cooking meals and screaming over the counter for her young waitress on reception to serve! Now and again you would get an over whelming smell of cigarette smoke from the staff smoking out the back with the door open. I watched the young waitress rinse used glasses with just cold water and wipe with tea towel and put them back on the shelf! There are no hygiene or cleanliness standards here!! Check the hygiene rating for yourself! Since going I have checked, which explains alot! The Vodka and coke were given from a litre bottle of coke from under the counter, which was warm and flat with cheap vodka, definitely not smernof vodka, but still paying all the money! There were plenty of tables available whereas before years ago this place was rammed! I wouldn't recommend going there at all! It's a 1 star for us unfortunately such a shame as the food and standards at this restaurant were really good. Sadly, we won't be going back anytime soon and wouldn't recommend it.

Food was really nice but there is no atmosphere, could have been in a greasy spoon cafe. The service was not good, dishes came out one at a time, with 10 of us the first served had finished before half of the table were served, had to send two dishes back that were wrong. We will not be rushing back, there are better restaurants in the area.

Have been here quite a few times, provides Thai food simply cooked, and tasty. The standards can vary from visit to visit. At this visit we ordered the special fried rice which contained prawns. Tasted good but the prawns still had the black stomach in, I was not impressed but did eat them. I think more established restaurants remove this stomach tract to make the prawn look better and avoid any health complications. We both had the banana fritters which were excellent. The young staff working that evening were polite and friendly. They however need extra training so that they are aware at all times of customer needs. For instance we had finished our main meals, and it was sometime before staff noticed this. Will give it a few months before we go again to see if any improvements have been made.

Fantastic little place, food was amazing. The hosts were so warm and friendly. The menu was spot on, great variety but not too extensive. Although this was mid week this place was near empty and considering what tasty food and great value this was, I’m surprised it wasn’t busier, but sure it will be very soon!

This is our third time at The Thai and sadly, probably our last. We ordered starters followed by chicken pad Thai, massaman curry and egg fried rice all to share. The pad Thai tasted completely different to when we'd had it twice previously. The sauce was strange, overall quite bland, and despite ordering chicken it came with chicken and tofu. The chicken was very dry and over cooked but edible. The beef in the massaman curry was incredibly chewy. And again the overall taste of the massaman curry was quite bland and not like before which was delicious. I appreciate not every meal is going to be 100% all of the time but we let the waiter know that the chicken and beef were tough. He kindly reported it to the owner and the chef and the owner shouted "they left 3 pieces of beef". To clarify. There were 6 pieces of beef in the curry. I ate one, left 3 totally uneaten on my plate,my husband left 2 (which he'd tried to eat but couldn't) and ate one. So all in all there were 7 pieces of wafer thin meat, 5 of which were left. The owner didn't apologise, but left the young lad to apologise. As a business owner, whether you agree with feedback or not, you should at least acknowledge it yourself. Ultimately the buck stops with you (again whether you agree with the feedback or not). Sadly my birthday meal was soured because of this experience. Before the owners curt reply we would have tried again, but we won't now.

Partner and I went for a meal here. Just had the one course each. Her curry was OK, nice tasting - I tried a bit. The meals and drinks were reasonably priced. Unfortunately mine, the pad Thai, was the worst one of these I've ever had. I love these and try them often. Textureless and almost tasteless apart from some sour really unpleasant taste which may have been the beef. When I mentioned it the owner said "Well you should have had something else". Maybe she was joking but - no arguments there! Maybe we should have gone somewhere else! I don't like leaving bad reviews but I feel its impossible not to - people should be aware of not only the food but the staffs comment.

If I could give this less than 1 star I would. We tried the Thai when it reopened and we’re not impressed but thought we would give it another go to support local businesses. Our starter spring rolls came out half cooked and half frozen. The chicken satay was barely warm and the prawn crackers were flavourless with a horrible dipping sauce. We waited 30-45 minutes for our mains which came out more on the cold side. The chicken in the yellow curry was like rubber, we ordered a pork red Thai curry which was made with chicken and the sweet and sour chicken was inedible. The Pad Thai was greasy and over salty. £145 for a family of 4 with inedible food is an absolute joke. The waiting staff were the best part of the meal but the kitchen looked utter carnage when passing by to the toilet. Since eating here my stomach is cramping up, most likely due to all of the lukewarm food we were served. Never again!!!!

They need to decide if their a restaurant or takeaway. Very slow service, using the the excuse that all the food is cooked fresh when carrier bags of takeaway are passing you whilst your sat at the table isn’t except able. I decided to have a massaman curry first time I have experienced a massaman curry with no potato’s but lots of pineapple?? and so many peanuts it was if someone had just grabbed a handful and just flung them on the top. This may well be the way they serve there curry but I have had massaman curry all over the world never not had potatoes in it . Strange and not some where I would return to or recommend.

But it was the wrong meal with an egg on top! Left at 9.30 with the 4th person having no main course, so hungry! The women at front of house is co-owner with the chef. Been excited to come here for a while! However was really disappointed in the food. Service was great and everything arrived in a timely manner so no complaints there. We ordered duck pancakes and the squid to start. The duck which I know is meant to be crispy was cremated and the smallest portion I've ever seen! The squid had no salt seasoning making it very bland, it was also served without the sauce noted on the menu. For main my partner had a curry which smelt delicious, and I had prawn pad thai. My pad thai tasted OK but only had two prawns in it and the rest made up with tofu? Not sure if this was a cost cutting excersise or a genuine mistake. Wish our experience had been better. The place was packed so unsure if we where just unlucky as there seemed to be lots of repeat customers who knew the restaurant staff.

My partner drive 30 minutes to pick up the order and had to wait another 30 minutes before the order was ready. When he got home we discovered that the 2 main courses were wrong. We had ordered the jungle curry and we’re given a beef dish with tomatoes and cashew nuts. Have been coming here for over 10 years (when the previous owners ran it). Visited this week - the portion sizes used to be much bigger and we used to leave feeling stuffed with enough in a doggy bag for a second meal - but not any more. I understand prices have risen due to inflation but the main courses seem to be about 50% of their former size. Curries are around £12 and a bowl of rice is £4 so sadly no longer value for money. (Maybe takeaway sizes are bigger?!)

Once I got home again opened up all the dishes, one of the vegetable dishes (it was an all vegetarian party ordering) was marked as 26 Veg but was clearly a chicken dish inside. So poor mislabelling an item, very glad no one was relying on the labelling for allergy - I wasn’t going to go back for a third time so we had to share out what we had but one of the party was down a meal - after paying over £50 for 3 people we expected better quality than that. I offer the following quick summary stating what we found was good, bad and/or indifferent about our experiences at this restaurant. For those wanting further information please read on and find detail within the full review.Good: Order ready early, some food (certainly not all of it), just eating food cooked by someone else!Bad: Order ready early (no this is not a mistake), Noodles, Sweet ‘n Sour Sauce, container labellingIndifferent: General temperature of food, riceStill in lockdown and having not had a takeaway for about 6 weeks we decided to treat ourselves in which to celebrate nothing particular at all: we just needed a break from cooking. The two visits to this restaurant are the only takeaway or ‘meals-out’ we have had since mid-March, and thus it should be seen as a compliment to this restaurant that we have chosen them on both occasions. Not wanting to be collecting at prime ‘takeaway-time’, I phoned the restaurant, the day before, and booked a collection time of 18:00. I volunteered my name and the young-sounding chap that took my order repeated my name back to me. Again no payment was asked-for.I arrived a good 10 minutes early, from my 15-minute drive from home through what had been very light traffic, and also with almost every traffic light co-operating. I went to the pay-counter and stated that I had pre-ordered a takeaway for 18:00 under the name ‘Mike’. The young lady had 4-5 order slips but not one with my name on it. She did have one which was not named (and it had no time on it either). By quickly working through the choices I confirmed it was a good match and paid my bill. I then realised I had left my insulated bag in my car, so I went to fetch it. My car was about a 30 second walk away and by the time I turned back towards the restaurant a young man was heading towards me with my order, which he placed directly into my bag. Job done, so off back home I went.On arrival home I again noted the various opaque plastic boxes containing the food were scrawled with numbers corresponding to the menu item numbers. As I pointed out before, I mostly couldn’t see which container held which dish. I repeat, ‘numbers alone are not very helpful unless you have a printed menu to hand’: the dishes had been ordered by telephone whist looking at an online menu. It would have been much more helpful to scrawl ‘S&S’, ‘Prawns’, ‘Duck’, ‘Rice’, ‘Chicken’ and ‘Noodles’ on the boxes. The food was eaten in the following order: The ‘King prawns’, nicely de-shelled, were OK but not really hot enough. OK they are small and difficult to keep warm, so perhaps it would be harsh to strongly criticise. The sweet chilli sauce was very thin and watery. The ‘Thai style aromatic duck’. This being a firm favourite of ours was a must, and again there were 12 pancakes (plenty) which were still warm (but not as hot as before), two generous pots of hoisin sauce, and a very generous portion of sliced cucumber and spring onions. The portion of half a duck was again enough to allow us to make 8 good-sized duck-rolls. This dish is very difficult to keep warm (and therefore it wasn’t).Up to this point in time, you may detect a theme concerning the dishes and their temperature. Please remember this takeaway meal had been placed directly into my insulated bag on collection and well under 20 minutes later (yes, another delay-free drive home) it was all on a heated tray. Our ‘mains’, a very generous portion of ‘Sliced chicken breasts cooked in a medium hot red curry’. This was creamy and pleasant but we would personally say it was a ‘mild’ not a ‘medium’ curry. Our taste is for ‘medium’ to ‘hot’ curries. Temperature-wise this was plenty hot enough but, there again, it had been sat unopened, on our heated tray for a good 15 minutes whilst we had served, and eaten our prawns, and made and consumed the duck pancakes, plus enjoyed a glass of wine. The rice was certainly sticky, and there was plenty of it, but it was a very firm ‘cake’ of rice that had to be quite vigorously broken-up .The ‘Lean pork, stir fried with cucumber, onion, tomato, and peppers in a sweet and sour sauce’. This looked a bit strange as the pork was very pink, but it was well cooked and very tender. It was hot having been sat, unopened, on the heated tray. The sweet and sour sauce was certainly ‘different’ to anything I have tasted before and almost peculiar: it was too thin, and not sticky, but I persisted and did eat it all, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have expected to.The ‘Stir fried egg noodles with onions, spring onions and beansprouts in a soy sauce’. This tasted stale and was not at all pleasant. I did eat about a third of it but decided to leave it there, and join my partner and have the rice with the remainder of the sweet and sour dish.A small portion of prawn crackers were good and crispy with some of the thin sweet chilli sauce. My opinion is that the evidence presented above suggests that the restaurant knew I was arriving sometime before 18:00 and guessed at a much earlier time. The food was not hot enough and some of it was caked and tasted stale. There was no name or time on the order slip and it was all ready, and in plastic carrier bags within 2 or 3 minutes of my arrival.Overall we were disappointed, but we lived through it and we have learned. It may be some time before I order another takeaway from here.

We were staying in Bitton and were recommended this place. We had the prawn Penang and duck Penang & some spring rolls to takeaway. Both dishes were lovely, but the spring rolls were the stars of the show, incredible! I would definitely visit again.

I offer the following quick summary stating what we found was good, bad and/or indifferent about our experiences at this restaurant. For those wanting further information please read on and find detail within the full review.Good: Food (almost all of it), just eating food cooked by someone else!Bad: Delay, communication, container labellingIndifferent: Fatty ribs In lockdown and having not been to any restaurant for exactly three months we decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We first visited this small restaurant in mid-January this year for a dine-in experience, and were very pleased with just about everything about our meal and the service. Salford is a small town that I often travel through, and in the last month or so I had noticed the signs in the window of the Thai Café advertising their takeaway and home delivery service. I resolved to give it a try and the impending birthday celebration was the perfect excuse. We decided to book our takeaway in good time to ensure that we could enjoy our food at a reasonable hour, on what was sure to be a busy Saturday evening. So, I phoned the restaurant, a couple of days prior, and booked a collection time of 17:45. I had my order ready and just as well because I was told that I had to order my choices (by menu item number) at the same as reserving a collection slot. The order was placed and time set at 17:45 for collection, which was 45 minutes after the takeaway opening time. I was surprised that I was asked only for my name and not for any payment, but I guess they had my telephone number?I arrived a couple of minutes early, from my 20-minute drive from home, and was able to go inside the restaurant and take a seat fairly near to the door: it was a bit cool outside and there were quite heavy rain showers about. Two or three takeaway customers were waiting outside when I arrived. There is some seating available outside but this was too wet from the rain to be of any use. Inside the restaurant there was the manager, a young lady behind a plexiglass screen (also sporting a face mask) taking payments, a young man who was assembling dishes into orders and the kitchen staff in the kitchen area at the far end of the restaurant. Everyone was respectful of social distancing. The kitchen was certainly busy and several plastic bags were being filled with takeaway meals. I was told that my order was being cooked: actually I was informed “the final dish is in the wok now” and that was at 17:48. Another middle-aged man arrived and took a seat across the room from me. The young lady proceeded to provide him with a list of home delivery addresses: and all the plastic bags being prepared were eventually taken away by him in various insulated containers. Cooking of my order hadn’t even been started, let alone being “in the wok”. Another 13 minutes passed before I was able to leave with my meal, so it was about quarter of an hour late. Now I understand that one has to expect some delay, actually I wasn’t upset at the delay, but I feel that I should have been told about the delay. Both myself and the manager knew, from seeing the bags being assembled, that my order was running late and the manager should have assured me when my order was being assembled, rather than leaving me to guess.Anyway off back home with my plastic bag and to the eating. The various opaque plastic boxes containing the food were scrawled with numbers corresponding to the menu item numbers, you couldn’t really see which container held which dish. Numbers alone were not very helpful as we, like many other customers I’m sure, will not have a printed menu to hand: as mostly they would have ordered by telephone whist looking at an online menu. It would have been much more helpful to scrawl ‘Ribs’, ‘Satay’, ‘Duck’, ‘Beef’, and ‘Noodles’ on the boxes. Still we managed, but the ribs starter was eaten after the pork main rather than at the same time as the satay starter. Most of the food was really good and was eaten in the following order: The Thai style aromatic duck: this is a firm favourite of ours and there was 12 pancakes (plenty) which were still warm, two generous pots of hoisin sauce and a very generous portion of sliced cucumber and spring onions. The portion of half a duck was enough to allow us to make 8 good-sized duck-rolls. The chicken satay: four skewers which were a bit cool, but they were very tender and tasty, and well marinated, this was served with ample good peanut sauce. The deep fried pork pieces in breadcrumbs: these were delicious and the lean pork was well trimmed, and there was plenty of hot and sour sauce which was very good indeed. The spare ribs: these were a bit disappointing, being extremely fatty and needed trimming which removed much of the tasty ‘mildly spicy’ caramelised sauce. I will not eat lumps of fat especially in what, on this occasion, was very thick (up to 1cm), but the meat, when you got to it, was very tender. The stir fried beef with mushrooms, peppers, broccoli onion and spring onion in oyster sauce: this was excellent and the beef was good, tasty and tender. We had a portion of stir fried egg noodles with onions, spring onions and beansprouts in a soy sauce. This was used as an accompaniment for the pork and beef dishes. I loved the texture of the crisp bean sprouts with the soft noodles.A small portion of prawn crackers were good and crispy with some home supplied sweet chilli sauce. So it was a really good takeaway and although we had eaten very lightly during the day we were stuffed, perhaps one dish too many!

Had the takeaway due to lockdown, first time trying this restaurant and indeed thai and it was a resounding success, both me and my wife loved the depth of flavour in our curries and starters. A little on the pricey side but well worth and will use them again. Perfect meal.

Very disappointed. Far from Thai cuisine. Hardly any flavour and for what flavour there was, was not balanced well. Seemed to be confused as to what it wants to be. Would not be worth the complaint however the price paid for 2 starters and 2 mains and sides is well over what would be expected for such poor quality dishes. If you want nice Thai food, take your time and cook it yourself.

I have never had any issues with the food from here, it's always been bang on. However when I tucked in to my chicken red thai curry last night I noticed the chicken was very dry even hard in places..almost as if the chicken was not fresh that day. I could not finish the meal because of this. Since my thai curry I have been wakng up all night being sick with hot and cold sweats..its now 12:30 the next day and I'm still being sick but nothing Is coming up. Clearly food poisoning, I would have thought that in these times extra care would have been taken to ensure the food is good, just be careful guys this ain't fun.

Because of Covid 19 we were at the end of our second week in isolation and decided to treat ourselves with a meal from our favourite restaurant, who were doing delivery’s while the restaurant was closed. The meal was delivered on time, hot and of the same high quality that they serve in the restaurant. It is a difficult time for business at this time but because of their wonderful food and friendly atmosphere they have a loyal following of customers who i am sure will support them through this time.

Just had a takeaway which is the first time we have tried this Thai. Had mixed starter for 2 which wasn’t very nice - watery chicken satay & soggy deep fried vegetables - the other bits were ok. Main course egg fried rice & king prawn with cashews, ok but nothing special - nearly £25 for a takeaway - first & last time I’m afraid which is a shame as following the reviews expected better!

Myself and two friends thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Thai Cafe. Our welcome was warm and inviting and the service spot on, attentive, helpful but not intrusive. It was a Tuesday evening and I was surprised to see it so busy, a sign of it's popularity. The atmosphere was relaxed and buzzing. We sat quite near the open kitchen and I could see the chefs, the owner I believe, working so hard to get the delicious meals to everyone's tables. We all enjoyed our meals, the thinly battered covered vegetables and our mains, chicken in a peanut sauce, the flavours were amazing.I have been a few times before and on all occasions it has never disappointed. We are so fortunate to have this little gem on our doorstep, may it continue to thrive.

Having travelled through Saltford several times in the last couple of months I had noticed this small restaurant on the A4 right in the centre of this well-heeled large village. Always looking for new food adventures and experiences I made several mental notes to try it out: and that we did on a dank Friday evening in January. This restaurant is decidedly small and by the time the single room has accommodated the bar and the open kitchen, there isn’t a lot of room for tables. So, if you want to experience some really good Thai food here, then reserve your table with as much notice as possible to avoid disappointment. We arrived a little early at 18:15 to take full advantage of our ‘slot’ ending at 19:30, when our table was reserved for another party. We do not mind eating early and had adjusted the timing, and the volume, of our lunch to ensure we were completely ready for our meal here (i.e. we were starving). The menu is absolutely huge and there is almost too much choice (135 dishes not including the desserts!) I believe however we had a good go at picking out some of our favourite favours (we are well seasoned diners when it comes to Thai cuisine). The house white wine is a Sauv Blanc which is ideal with far eastern cuisine and at £13.50 a bottle it is both cheap and very good. We didn’t know what the wine would be like, so had ordered by the (175ml) glass at £3.50 a time.Straightaway we decided on the duck pancakes to start, so half a crispy duck between us, some strong and really gooey sauce (most likely hoisin, but it could have been black or yellow bean), some shredded spring onion and cucumber, and plenty of steamed pancakes. It really frustrates me that in most Thai / Chinese restaurants the portion of steamed pancakes, which must be the cheapest part of the meal, are always so mean: but not here as there were plenty. To be super critical the duck was over-shredded but that didn’t spoil the taste: it just didn’t look as appetizing. More seriously, the plates were not warmed sufficiently, so when you put a hot, and ultra-thin, steamed pancake, that you are have carefully keep as hot as possible, on the cold plate the pancake immediately goes cold! Then you smear on the chilled sauce and it’s even colder! It’s a conundrum which needs addressing (not only here but at most Thai / Chinese restaurants), maybe both the plates and the sauce should be warmed? The assembled duck pancakes were good though: but if they had been slightly warmer, the flavours would be better developed, and that would have enhanced the taste.Mains: my partner chose the king prawns in medium hot Thai red curry with pineapple, and I chose sizzling stir-fried beef also with pineapple and black bean sauce. We shared a dish of soft noodles with chicken, beef, pork and vegetables with dark soy sauce. Yes, this was a serious amount of food, but we had planned for it, and thus we were hungry enough for this substantial meal.We shared some of each-others main dishes, so I had about a third my partners prawns, in exchange for a similar amount of my stir-fried beef. I have to say the prawns were magnificently cooked, very tender and the curry was rich and tasty but notably well on the mild side of medium hot. Note for next time: I agree with my partner that she really needed boiled rice to mop-up the lovely creamy curry sauce: as the noodles were in their own, delightful but unsuited, sauce for red curry. The stir-fried beef was actually a little (chilli) hotter than the red curry because the stir-fried beef contained some wonderful fresh ginger (one of my favourite tastes). The stir-beef was outstanding, not too thinly sliced: it was cooked well, and not tough. The noodles were excellent and were an ideal accompaniment to the stir-fried beef, but not as I say, to the Thai red curry. The only criticism was that again that the plates, brought just before our mains were served, were not sufficiently warmed. This coupled with a delay between the arrival of our mains and the slightly tardy arrival of the noodles meant that the food could have been hotter. Despite the size of the meal we did eat it all, but had no capacity left for a dessert.Another slight annoyance: there were no serving spoons for the dishes: meaning you had to use your own unsuitable cutlery to take the food from serving dish to plate, this then caused a mess on the table. Also, I agree that I share germs with my partner of course, but if we had been dining here with friends, and if they had colds, then it would not be good to use personal cutlery to serve yourself.I may be seen as nit-picking here, but there is so much that was very right with this meal: wonderful flavours, fantastic quality of ingredients and the skilful preparation and cooking, it was just a shame to not have the food at the zenith of its powers. In some Thai restaurants there is a propensity to over-decorate the food with carved vegetables and colourful fruit. There is none of that here which is, on balance, a good thing because all that decoration adds little to the taste and much to time and expense. I would rather have plainer-looking food, but with quality, heat and taste any day.The bill was presented, and we were very happy to pay the £58.40 plus a gratuity, which was amazing for such a good and sizable meal.Service was truly fantastic, and the owner was great at front-of-house duties, a very pleasant gentleman who, like all the staff here at this family run business, made us feel very welcome. The two chefs work hard to keep pace with orders in what must be quite cramped and hot conditions, I doff my toque blanc to them.I am going to ignore all my nit-picks if that is what they are and still award this restaurant with a 5 start review because the meal warrants this ultimate accolade.

Really good food available, the rib starter was stunning. Thai red curry main was good but I'll be interested to try the green curry next time. It maybe small inside, but has a big menu, very good food and a friendly and helpful owner on hand to guide you through your choice. Highly recommended. Only downside if I had to pick a fault is having the kitchen very close to the dining area means food smells, smoke etc can float around the place making a few people cough etc. It's a minor niggle though and we'll be back there soon for the green curry and rib starter obviously. 😍
