The Terrace Restaurant in Camden

Enjoyed a pleasant few hours in this lovely cafe. Gentle sunlight streaming in and across the cafe. Comfortable temperature. Relaxed ambience. Clean tables. Delicious coffee and cake. No one on laptops/phones. Decent prices for the coffee and cake. Staff were courteous and friendly. It was my first visit- but not my last!

Hostile service & genuinely terrible food - falafel from a packet, salad doused in vinegar. Unfriendly & unhelpful service. Avoid.

I Ve been working at the British library for 14 years as a researcher, yet I m still regularly baffled by how overpriced this place is and how rude the staff are; I strongly suggest avoiding this place and going to the indépendant cafes nearby on Chalton street, in particular Flori Canto and Gazelle Dates, which are infinitely better

After 7 consecutive days of visiting The library I can say: Horrible, cold food.. overpriced… Management must go to church (not to appear in hell) after poisoning the customers!! Chefs skills are comparable to my 5 years old son … LOL and SHAME !! The restaurant is open 11:30-14:30 ( not even 15:00) , so you gotta have your meal quick! I’ve tried: - Chicken Kiev - 4 of 10 as it’s not a chicken Kiev at all😂 , but looks same - Jack P with beans and sausage casserole- awful cheapest sausage I had ever , cold jack P, beans are beans … 3 of 10 -Fish and chips- probably the best dish as its almost impossible to ruin the “deep fry stuff” - 6 of 10 - Chicken baguette sandwich- ingredients: bread , deep fried chicken, 2 lattice leaves , full stop. - Overpriced and not tasty . No sauce. 5 of 10 Advice to restaurant: 1. Never Ever!!!!! take customers as a money cow! 2. Purchase mid to high quality ingredients, and not the lowest quality to rotten ingredients !!!!!!!!!!! 3. Find a fine chef or teach yours! 4. Change the menu asap I’ll be back and will update my review, if anything changes.

Over priced yes but what a great place to take a breather from poring over your research before heading back to the reading room. loved the light pouring in and can imagine sitting out when the weather is warm.

I was baffled when the restaurant manager approached me and my wife, who sat quietly with the drinks we purchased, and without explanation as to why, he rudely made a point that we couldn't use our laptop, despite there being several people sat using phones and tablets and much mess across their table, and he continuously bothered us in quite an unfriendly manner... as if we were criminals haha honestly it's laughable that such a rich institution would have such a strange policy... additionally, if you're not able to toast a HOT cross bun then it's simply just false advertisement 👀

Horrible attitude from the short brown manager. We were sitting there and having coffee at 4ish before the restaurant shuts. I was trying to be quick to finish some work as there’s no spaces outside and it’s nearly the close time. The man came over with aggressive attitude many times to tell me that I’m not allowed to use my laptop while many people were studying on their tables and children were running around. He even couldn’t explain the policy then what’s the reason it exists. Anyway, disgusting attitude!!! Horrible!!!

Overpriced. Two meals I had were almost cold. Staff rude.

Good coffee, very ordinary cakes and extremely dirty tables. All the empty tables were covered in other people’s crumbs and coffee stains so I asked the guy behind the counter who was just standing there doing nothing whether there was a cloth available to wipe our table. The usual response to this is ‘I will come and clean it for you’. Instead he just handed over paper towels for me to do the cleaning! Unbelievable. We will not be back.

I will suggest get out of the library if you want to eat something better

The food was overpriced. Four small meatballs and salad for £9.95!? This restaurant is not a “restaurant”, but a very casual canteen. The interior and terrace were the only things I liked about this place.

Shocking customer service! I thought the restaurant was opened from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm per website. I was told by a short brown man (as mentioned on the other review) in a very rude tone "Close! Close! Close!" in order to get me out of the restaurant!!! This was before 4.30 pm. Such a shame that a beautiful restaurant here is run by someone who knows nothing about customer service! I would like to know what is the management going to do about this?

The manager (the short brown man) is extremely rude. Food price is hiked up to extreme taking advantage of it being the only restaurant in the building and ppl eventually get hungry while studying

Pitiful and totally unimaginative food offering spoilt our visit to the excellent Treasures exhibition.....

To Chris who moaned about no lap tops, there is a massive area in library to use, this is the one space where we are encouraged to eat and turn off from study. I am glad policy has no laptops otherwise it would just be full all the time. The area is nice and bright generally staff are pleasant but understand when they have to deal with some rather foolish people they get annoyed. Food choice not the greatest on savoury, and can we just get a plain soup along with the daily fancy one 😅, same applies to toasted sandwich selection. Cake selection is always good as my tummy will testify.

Expensive and Rude customer service plus ! staff with the short brown hair and glasses could not identify what was on the menus when I asked she said everything is on the Menu. If I knew what the items were I would not be asking.

Absolutely rude staff with a pointless policy of no laptops even though they cannot explain the reasoning themselves and are just pointing towards the ‘no laptop’ signs while screaming. Was interrupted by a rude man an hour into working on my laptop peacefully in an EMPTY cafe to ask me to close the laptop. Then be also announced they’re closing in 5mins (at 4.22 on a Saturday) and when I questioned that online it says the cafe is open till 5pm on Saturdays he became agitated and snapped ‘because I said so’ when I politely asked why are you closing early today. Really detrimental to the overall experience in the British Livrary.

Asked for tea with milk, got overcharged and way too much milk (it's not unusual to assume you can do it yourself?). Politely asked for a replacement and staff were not happy about it.

Manager made a point of disturbing me to tell me I couldn't be on a laptop, despite being a paying customer and despite being one of less than 4 people in the place at the time. I indicated I was making a reading room booking for later in the day while enjoying a coffee, I was told this didn't matter. I'm now doing the same booking on my phone which he has made twice as long a process. A pointless policy for no reason, especially on a quiet day like today. Also, categorically not a restaurant, and overpriced.

It's categorically **not** a restaurant. It's an overpriced, self-service canteen with prices worse than any motorway service station. Not only that, but the portions are pitifully small. I thoroughly recommend everyone to give this place a wide berth and find something more honest locally - it's not impossible.
