One of the best pubs I have ever been in

No wonder this pub has won Camra pub of the year the last 2 years. It is one of the best pubs in history. The fact it has been created, rather than built makes it even more amazing. The staff are incredible, the beer choice and quality is superb. The food and snack options are ridiculous. A must must must visit if you are in Tamworth, Birmingham or anywhere else in that vicinity. Can only give it 5 Stars when it requires 10.

Just went in for a pint. What an absolutely brilliant pub ! We live an hour away , our Friends who live nearby , took us to the Tamworth Tap as local Folk are so proud to have this wonderful , multiple award winning establishment in Tamworth. Adjacent to the Castle walls , the building is welcoming , cosy & you can feel the history of the place from the Castle period onwards . I loved the decor , memorabilia harmoniously arranged throughout the building , creating a very pleasant , safe aura to the place . The Staff are friendly & extremely knowledgeable about the huge range of top quality Ales & Beers on offer , & about the history of the Pub & Castle. What a great atmosphere too ! Sadly I was driving later so only sampled one pint but my Wife & I are planning to stay over in Tamworth when we can , to spend more time in this superb Pub - & for me to enjoy more of the outstanding Beers - plus the delicious looking home made pork pies & rolls etc. The staff were great , obviously full on committed to the ethos of this gem of a place. A huge Thank you to the Tamworth Tap Owner & to your wonderful Staff , for making our visit to Tamworth really special - & a massive Thanks to our Friends for introducing us to the Tamworth Tap - I wish we lived closer !

My partner and I go here quite tegularly, and it's always a wonderful time. The place itself is brilliantly decked out, and the people it attracts are chilled out and friendly. The staff are great and the drinks are top shelf. if you want something away from the standard bar scene in Tamworth then I highly recommend The Tap.

Cosy and welcoming and what's not to love about a log fire? The boys enjoyed their ales, only negative was that the driver couldn't get a cuppa.

This is a great pub on three floors with an excellent selection of real ales and craft beers. Bar snacks like sausage rolls, scotch eggs, and cheese rolls were fresh and tasty. It was busy, but we found seating on the second floor, and the third floor had plenty of space. It was a very enjoyable afternoon chatting with friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Excellent friendly little pub 👍 the staff were very helpful with telling us the best drinks to have not being there before 👍the place was lovely and clean 😀 the locals were lovely and friendly 😀 10/10

Deserving holder of the pub of the year title. Friendly welcome from all staff, quick service even though its busy. Fine selection of ales. Despite small serving area, plenty of room to sit with spacious upper floor and a garden. Recommend the home made pork pies.

After Attending the Tamworth Beer Festival. Called in the Tap. For Something to Eat. Had Cauliflower Buffalo Wings. Collected from a Delightful Garden Hatch. Enjoyed with a Wicked Spicy Dip. Drank well kept Cask Ale. Even took some Beer. Off us. As they Thought it was not up to Standard. Won the National Camra . Best Pub Award in 2022 & 2023. Can See Why. Big Que at Evening Rush hour. Lovely Pub. Will Return. When in the Area.

Cracking pub. Staff are brilliant, atmosphere is superb. So nice to find a place that serves great drinks and is full of people enjoying the moment. Yet to try the food but that'll be a definite on our next visit.

Broke a train journey from London to Stoke to visit here. One of the best pubs I've ever been in. Unbelievably good selection of beer, and super friendly/helpful service. Cheese & onion cobs in this area are one of life's finest things, and this was no exception. Seriously, if you ever get the chance to visit do.

Nice cosy place. I enjoyed the IPA (Citra) but then tried the Twisted Lime Cider which tasted like someone had made a pint of lime cordial but switched the water and lime ratio round the wrong way. It was luminous green ! Won't be having that again but will be back to try others.

higgledy-piggledy, lovely knowledgeable staff, pity I couldn't access garden area (about 10pm was here) may be limited times. Reminds me if the Crooked House in Himley R.I.P. All pubs like this need protection to avoid same fate, CAMRA need to do more work on this problem.

An amazing find, don’t miss it! Great selection of beer (other drinks available), sun trap beer garden, when I visited there was live music, overlooked by Tamworth Castle. This place is what micropubs are all about. Will visit again, soon I hope…

Came to Tamworth to meet up with friends as a convenient halfway point. I would genuinely come back just for this pub. Drank here both Friday and Saturday nights. Great choice of cask ale, constantly changing. Pub is full of character, both in and out. Great beer garden/yard. Simple but nice food in the form of cobs, sausage rolls, pork pies, chips etc. Best thing of all is the staff. Highly knowledgeable, very friendly and welcoming, super professional. This pub won CAMRA pub of the year 2022 and 2023 and I can see why. It'll take some beating.

Great place for a beer or cider (amongst other drinks) with lots of choice. The staff are great with good knowledge of the drinks and happy to help with you with choosing.

Absolute perfection of a pub. Fantastic drinks range , great food/ snacks, friendly, cosy, comfortable and everything about it is quality with huge attention to detail. I ran a multi award winning pub for 21 years and we experienced the same negative reviews as you because we didn't allow kids, Didn't exchange drinks just because someone wanted something different ( ie no quality issues ), kept on top of any anti social issues etc , you will never please those people and im sure you don't worry about it . Your venue is fantastic and you fully deserve your awards . Well done and thankyou for providing what you do.

First ever visit here and loved it. It was very busy but managed to get a table upstairs. Great choice of drinks from real ale, cask and keg and craft beers on tap and cans & bottles in the fridge. Staff very friendly & helpful. Didn't have any food, but what they had looked good

We went out of our way to come here because of a recommendation, and it was definitely worth it! A big thanks to the wonderful staff and kind people at the pub that made us feel so welcome in Tamworth! Will come again for sure!

Rustic micro pub, Takes a few visits to love the charm. But utterly utterly welcoming and an amazing labyrinth. Massively warm atmosphere. Won UK best pub in the Camra circles! A treat. Always the right music and volume !

I came to the wassail night this evening, there was great beer and cider. The staff were really helpful in helping me choose a drink and even offered a free taster beforehand. Really positive experience, will definitely be back again.

There is better pubs than this however the decor is amazing. The two young girls behind the bar do not come across as convincing that they know what they are selling and here's a big negative point.. I asked if I could swop a beer as the one I bought at nearly £5 didn't taste right. One of the girls said "there's nothing wrong with the beer.. You can either buy a different one or keep that". Very poor service. Even wetherspoons change a drink if its not up to what you deem drinkable. At the end of the day the Tamworth tap is just a public house like thousands across the UK.. Yes there's lots of tin adverts on the walls etc but two win Camra pub of the year twice.. Really! Worth a visit if you've other pubs to take in also. Tony

First visit. Really impressed with the range of beers. Excellent bar staff. Helped the young lady fix the Christmas tree lights!

Really enjoyed another return to the tap last night. Great service as usual, friendly locals and superb beer (cask, keg). Finished on a Belgian beer and it was great to see a couple of new ones in the fridge too. Till the next time.

Absolutely fantastic place, will always be my local the most fantastic staff they always cater to your taste, the food is amazing due to years of finding that perfect chef to meet the pubs needs, you don’t come here for a pint… you come here for the experience, there is a reason they are number 1 in the country

Superb choice of constantly changing ales and ciders with excellent outdoor seating. Friendly staff too. My only criticism would be the 9pm closing. As requested by maps an update on the above review: Closing time has been reviewed and is now 10pm on Wednesday and Thursday, 11pm Friday and Saturday, still 9pm on Sunday though. Another request requests an update on staff. Currently I only come into contact with 4. Sophie, Jess, Kate and Ash are worth their weight in gold. Lucy I have the misfortune of regularly missing but is there with them. A great team if 5 (plus the bosses of course). It is well worthy of Pub of the Year.

Great pub on the main street with the castle behind. Super range of real ales along with craft kegs. The atmosphere was great and a friendly relaxed environment.

Great brewery, with lots of craft ciders and beers to choose, can or keg. It has some great Belgian beers. It has 3 floors with cozy rooms to enjoy your drink and your company, good music, and an amazing beer garden at the back of Tamworth Castle. Just won the CAMRA best English pub of the year award.

The absolute jewel in the crown of Tamworth. Unrivalled service, drinks selection and atmosphere. The owners have clearly put great care and effort into ensuring this is the pub of pubs (the CAMRA national pub of the year is no surprise). Will be back here without question.

What. A. Pub. If you want a great choice of fabulously poured beer, look no further! The beer is fantastic, the staff are exceptional and look after you so well, nothing is too much! A wonderful place to drink, definitely pop in!!!

The highlight of Tamworth real ale scene when you’re an ale enthusiast and you’re on a pub crawl. Great old timey look for somewhere relatively new, great range of real ales and lagers, and good selection of bar snacks from cobs to sausage rolls and pork pies I think. Friendly staff too. It is strictly over 18s only too. All in all, a great little establishment!

We went for the Sunday sessions, amazing music by Rob Taylor, in the gorgeous beer garden, overlooked by Tamworth castle, a brilliant recommendation for my beer, I'd expect nothing less from camra pub of the year, all in the sunshine. I would definitely recommend this pub, independent, quirky, in a really good way, great beer and staff.

This is a beautiful pub with a lovely beer garden. HOWEVER I would advise all dog owners to go elsewhere- of 'elsewheres' there are many in Tamworth. I went with my dog, and a friend with their dog- we sat outside on a quiet, sunny, sunday afternoon. We were joined by a regular who sat chatting with us about the dogs, and then joined by 2 more people and 2 more dogs that we didnt know- there was momentary barking when they first went past- pretty normal for dogs- but it was short and not persistent. On finishing our drinks we were all asked to leave as the dogs 'weren't settling'. The dogs were absolutely fine and not making a fuss. We all left immediately without argument- i dont want to be somewhere im not welcome- but the next day I emailed asking for an explanation- i have waited a week and had nothing back. So dog owners you have had fair warning....

What a fabulous place the words quaint and idyllic are perfect to describe the tamworth tap , the staff are very very polite and can't do enough for you and the gaffers are alright too , also the cheese and onion cobs are to die for, delicious .I'll definitely be going out of my way to go again. 11/10

The best looking bar staff of any bar I've ever been in. Though the real reason to visit is the quaffable ales. Come for the ale, stay for the staff and a couple more pints of the ale.

This pub is great, I've visited many times. And we all love it. However, today, we were all kicked out because they would not accept my nearly 19 year old daughter's ID. She wasn't even drinking alcohol. In all fairness, the group of us were not kicked out. They just said my daughter would have to leave. They also wouldnt even let us finish our drinks. Immediately booted. So be warned, even if you have valid ID, if you look young, they will kick you out. So disappointed with them. It's for this reason a large group of us will now not return. Such a shame.

Me and my girlfriend came here on Friday evening. We aren’t knowledgable about Ale and made that clear from the start with our interaction with the gent behind the bar (beard, brown hair and glasses) and he was patient with us and incredibly kind and knowledgable. We are definitely coming back. Thank you so much. Also, it’s an amazing venue and you can see why it’s number one

Wonderful pub, voted CAMRA National Pub of the Year recently. Fully deserved in our opinion. Great beer range, warm and friendly atmosphere and fantastic décor. Glad we made the effort to visit on our way back to London 👍😁🍻

The courtyard at the rear has been thoughtfully refurbished to make an excellent outdoor drinking area with plenty of seating. This gives quite a continental feel to the drinking experience. The beer is excellent and there is a good choice of cider too. Blankets are provided for when the evenings get cooler but I do worry that the limited interior space may mean it will get rather crowded in the winter when our climate doesn't encourage drinking outdoors. UPDATE: it is crowded at busy times (most of the time) in winter, especially since winning CAMRA pub of the year, but there are 3 floors so you will always find somewhere to sit down.

Homely pub, vast range of microbrewery beers and ciders. Cosy setting and places to sit on multiple floors, has a great atmosphere and place to sit outside on a warm day.

This place reopened after covid, we tried to get in and were turned away as they were only taking bookings. We watched as people piled on who hadn't even booked, rude and unfriendly

Can't rate the food as I only had beer. Lovely little pub, like stepping back In time. The stove was burning hot when I visited, the staff were friendly and the customers seemed happy and friendly. Wonderful little pub, between this and the Robert peel, you'll have a great night out. Oh and the gents toilets are absolutely cracking 👌. Worth visiting just for the bogs 😃

One of if not "THE BEST" venues in Tamworth. Tbh if you weren't aware you could easily breeze by as it is very deceptive from the front. The owner "George" is not only a great host he's a true visionary & has totally transformed the former tourist information centre into a real gem of a place. I shared a few quality real ales & ciders outside with a couple of friends last evening & the choice for both was amazing. The decor, table spacing & outdoor heating was perfect & on selected nights there's even live music being performed. Looking around whist outside you could've been in any European city. Kudos to George & his wife Louise on what they've achieved & I'm sure that there's still more to come. So I urge all of you Tammy's or from even further a field who like to drink in a warm, friendly hospitable environment to give this place a try. I can assure you that you won't be disappointed! 🍺🥂🍷🥃🍸👍🏻

A cracking pub, an array of excellent beers and the pub itself split over three floors is full of charm and character. We had a great time having a little room to ourselves at the top. The landlord was friendly and we would definitely come back.

Don't go if you're in a wheelchair no chance of a toilet. Camra seems to over look people in wheelchairs

Don't do meals but if anything like the rest 5 stars, our go to place 😁 for chat inside or outside, staff very friendly & knowledgable too, so enjoying trying a different drink each time

Fantastic pub. Great atmosphere and great ales.

The place to go in Tamworth if you're into real ales, ciders and gins. That said - you will also find plenty of variety of regular drinks too. The Courtyard is huge with open and covered seating. Staff are friendly and attentive. The food is great and well priced - gastro twist on classic pub foods. This is a place to support if you want to see Tamworth grow classier places.

Really good vibe but major downside is that despite reservations not being available, consistently one group is allowed to reserve a table in the window. It’s a minor thing but just quite rude to others, particularly as the attitude of that party is quite unfriendly. Otherwise a great venue - just don’t sit in the window!

Beer is fantastic and some staff are great. Remember listening to a 30 second video on my phone and being told it should be on my headphones when the pub was half empty at 1pm. Strange customer service when we'd already bought 3 rounds of drinks. Left straight after and the bloke behind the bar, presuming the landlord, needs to learn how to treat customers.
