Great service, lovey food and will defo be back! We booked on Friday for a last minute meal for 8 people and the food was delish and service great

This was a take away looked at the menu on line which isn't a reflection of the prices at all our bill was 12 pound more on 4 dishes then the food was predicted 40 minutes but came in 14 minutes can't possibly have been cooked fresh too scared to eat it

We had a lovely meal for our sons birthday, it was not to busy in the restaurant, the food was tasty and delicious and the service was outstanding. The food was a little pricey, but no different to all other establishments in Epping.

The service is appalling. Waited over 1hr 40 mins for food with a 18 month old and a 3 year old. On booking even told wanted table back quickly which suited us then never served the food!! Had to leave as got too late served food in takeaway containers and still charged £80 and argued people want to be served slowly rather than simply apologising. On the food we took away with us was cold by time home and a criminal amount of salt on some dishes that was all could taste ended up binning it. Kid-friendliness Not even got a high chair this place is not somewhere to go with family that literally have no idea how to cater for families avoid. Would add toilets for a restaurant are a disgrace as well dirty and unhygienic.

Went there Christmas Eve 2022. Booked for 7pm. They phoned and asked if we could go at 7.30pm. No worries. Table wasn't ready. By 9.15 we had only had our starters (out of a packet) and drinks (very expensive bottled beer). Their problem is that take-aways tale priority. Well, if that's the case, close the restaurant. We had to leave as we had other places to go. No apologies. Couldn't be bothered. However, spoken to a few people locally who will never go back for the same reason.

Complete and utter discuss 😡🤬 I have been going to the Swan for years. Had a pick up to take home, when I dished my dinner up I found a long black hair and a grey hair, which one of them actually got stuck round my tonsils, which was vile, also the food was stone cold, the seaweed was extremely salty, my husband took my plate in and told them to chuck all away including the plate I can safely say I won't be dinning in or out from here again. I don't rate this restaurant not even 1%. I don't recommend the Swan to anyone not after what I have been through.

Had a delivery from you and was very standard the sweet n sour prawn balls were over cooked and there was no beef in the sweet chilli beef but other than that it was ok

Had dinner here with my mum and dad for the first time in a few years. Had a lovely meal!! Such a friendly place. We used to come here in the 1970s every week when I was a child, and I have such lovely memories of fantastic dinners here. Fast forward 40+ years, and I was visiting my parents and thought, “where to for dinner”? So we went to The Swan. Such a friendly welcome, and such nice people. I’m sure they’re different staff from the 1970s (!!!) but just as friendly, and the welcome was just as warm, and the dinner just as nice. Reasonably priced, too, still. We had a lovely dinner, and a lovely trip down memory Lane. Thanks The Swan - a memorable evening. We’ll see you again very soon !!

We had an excellent meal at the Swan. A group of 6, we were seated at a lovely round table which is always nice. The staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive. We had three courses, plenty of drinks and bill was round £220. The food was excellent, in large portions and above all tasty. Mixed starters and duck were amazing especially. We look forward to coming back.

The food was delicious and the service excellent. We always use this restaurant for its take away service but it was good to dine in.

The swan was my local Chinese, both take away and dine in. The food used to be amazing and so did the service, unfortunately this has changed not for the better. The take away always seemed to get colder and colder each time and always forgetting the curry sauce (asking me to remind them and they will give me it for free next time - what good is that, when they keep forgetting?), then we decided to dine in even though every single time we had dined in we would get over charged on the bill. When we dined in there was a young girl )known to the restaurant) sat in the restaurant who came up to our table and started eating food off of our table (this girl I think had autism so it was not her fault and her father kept going behind into the kitchen as he knew the staff) this was a very uncomfortable experience which resulted in us leaving the restaurant as the staff just watched this happen and we did ask the girl politely to return to her table. We then requested the bill from the waitress who had sat and watched this happen presented us with a bill in Chinese, I requested this in English as this seemed very expensive considering we did not have alcohol, once we received this we were charged for 4 additional cokes at £5 each. I told the waitress this was incorrect and she was quick to tell me her calculator was broken (which funnily enough it was broken the last time I went in there and they tried charging me for 3 bottles of Prosecco when only ordering 1). Such a shame as the swan used to be amazing, but has gone downhill massively. They are very over priced, the service is so poor and to top it all off they love to over charge you hoping you don’t notice - I think they forget who their regular customers are or just assume you are stupid. Not spending anymore of my money in this place and will be going to May in Epping as there Food is lovely and not as over priced as the swan. They seem to treat their customers better when you dine in also and don’t try to push their luck with over charging you for food and drinks you did not have.

Had takeaway from here a few times recently and has always been very nice, but tonight we ordered a Szuchan lamb dish, fatty didn’t eat it, and 1/4 of duck was hard dry and not ediable. The other food was all fine so hopefully it was a one off.

I have normally used this restaurant many times over the years & been happy with service but in recent experiences unfortunately the service has been very poor & telephone manner quite rude as waited on 2 occasions recently for takeaway delivery taking well over 2 hours calling in between for updates on order telling you food will be with you & clearly still not left the premises!! So decided to pick up a take away to be given some food hadn’t ordered ring up to say get tould what I ordered they have run out of no curtisy call to say so won’t be using again

We have used The Swan Epping for a while . When ordering takeaway originally it was arriving within 20 minutes, over the last few months the service had deteriorated dramatically. Our order about one month ago took nearly two hours , and we were told one hour , today I was told 40 minutes and had to ring twice Before food turned after an hour and ten minutes . Food was nearly cold . When I rang I was told they only have one driver . If we had been told this At the beginning we might have understood the delay. The food is very good , but we are unlikely to use again due to ongoing issues with delivery .

The crispy chili beef and tofu is my favorite ! We ordered the pal choi which is different from other restaurants because the garlic is so crispy! The satay sauce is simply heavenly! Must try!

Me and my Husband decided to go there for our Anniversary celebration . Staff were very attentive and food was outstanding . We really fancied a ‘Chinese’ meal so decided to try this place. We ordered Spring rolls and Capital spare ribs to start , followed by Crispy Chilli Beef, Mussels in black bean sauce , Special noodles and Roast pork fried rice ... absolute delicious !!! We would often order a Delivery from this place , but Dining in is another experience . 10/10 for overall Dining experience . I would say this is the best Chinese restaurant in the local area . *Thumbs up*

Came in with my family on a weekend . Good atmosphere and beautifully cooked traditional chinese food . Absolute fantastic experience and will recommend for sure . Fantastic location in the heart of Epping high street and easy to find . Their Sweet n Sour Chicken Dish with Egg fried rice is a must try aswell as their Sizzling King Prawn in ginger and spring onion . Freshly cooked and piping hot ! Can’t wait for our next visit ! Always welcoming, and reliable cooking. Try the sizzling dishes- e.g the scallops with ginger & spring onion, the fillet steak, or the surprisingly good lamb (again best with ginger & spring onion) for a change from the standards.

Rude staff and appalling food Been to this restaurant a few times and trying to find a reason to go back. The quality of the food was awful its was oily and tasted bland... The place needs updating, it is very dated and unhygienic, from the main restaurant to the ladies toilets( oily and disgustingly dirty)The staff are rude and doesn’t look like they belong and want to be there. We felt very disappointed. To be fair they did have one nice waitress there that was very professional and seemed to Know what she was doing, but we have heard that she has left.The last week we were there all seemed to have changed. The lady behind the bar didn’t have a clue what she was doing furthermore she was rude.We do need a good chinese restaurant in Epping. We hope they improve the quality of food and train their staffs to be more polite.

I have no idea where some of the reviews are coming from, but our experience of this restaurant was very good. Service was pleasant, nice touches, such as decent chopsticks, well-set table, pretty surroundings, and sauce for the aromatic duck in a user-friendly squeezy bottle.

Don’t go here if you have any kind of food allergy. Came here with friends, made certain they understood my allergy, yet when the egg fried rice arrived and I asked which one was mine, was rudely told that I should have ordered plain rice. I’ll never eat here again.

Went in for to pick up a takeaway last weekend and was served by a lady in very unprofessional (and inappropriate) attire. The man on the phone told me my order will be ready in 30/40 mins, I ended up having to wait an extra 15 minutes which isn't too much of problem, however the lady rudely snatched the card machine out of my hands - I hadn't even finished keying my pin in! I don't understand why she was in such a haste since I had to wait another 15 mins for my order... Service aside, food wasn't great either. I won't be returning.

Wanted to try something new for a change. The menu gave us a good choice of dishes without going over the top.the service was quick and friendly without feeling rushed. The meal was very tasty and prices were good. The desert selection was rather limited but prices were cheap. Normal selection of drink's if not a little limited but the wines are checked before pouring. All in all a tasty night out.

The food is as bad as the service, I wish I had trusted my gut instinct and walked out when I noticed how rude they were, food was dry and tasted bland, a lot of money wasted, I would never go again

Nipped in for a quick soup and crispy duck with my partner and was so disappointed. Firstly it was just after 10pm and no one in the restaurant and we were told one course only .... well fine... but when it arrived, soup first (great !...) I had to stir my soup as the first mouth full was cool.

Well it's nice to find a local Chinese again the food was lovely and the staff so warm and attentive we had mixed starters and then duck and no room for anything else but was truly lovely

This excellent, friendly local restaurant with superb food and great service was previously let down by only one thing: the dodgy carpet. Now the new carpet had arrived, the sizzling scallops remain excellent, ditto the crispy duck, the hot and sour soup met our Korean friend's exacting standards, and the service was as ever superb. A food-lover's dream.

took 5 of us to celebrate our 55th anniversary. i chose the silver menu as my wife can not eat chilies as she has an allergy to them which causes swelling of the mouth. the starters were very good and tasty they were followed by duck with pancakes which was served with only one pancake per person.on asking for more these were bought up at once and all very nice.the main courses then arrived which looked very nice until i noticed rings of red chili in the beef in black bean sauce. when i bought this to the managers attention.i was informed that in chinese food they often change the ingredients and if a person has an allergy we should have informed them/so be aware/ when i said the dish should have stated it included chili on the menu he then gave us a prawn sweet and sour free . which was very nice.i must say the food was very tasty and the drinks about par for dining out.we will go again and inform them about no chili first and see what happens.then if it comes up again i will not pay a penny. you have been warned.

I came here with colleagues for dinner after work and we had the 'Silver Swan' set Menu which consisted of Duck/Pancakes, Sweet and Sour chicken, Crispy Chilli Beef and a lot more. It made ordering and serving so easy.

The staff were pretty average and a tad annoying but not rude. Food was lovely but a tad over priced. Not sure I'd go back to be honest but would say it's worth a try if you've not been just not for me. It might of been the atmosphere or lack off that spoilt it for me.

Worried about the monosodium glutamate that is traditionally used in Chinese cuisine, I have not eaten any for years. It is probably not the best kind of food for diabetics either. But this evening, driven by extreme hunger, I risked a takeaway meal.....and it was gorgeous! The food was really nice, rather better than the average Chinese takeaway dishes, I think, and it was produced so quickly too. Nor did I get a bad blood test result later on. It was so nice that I shall be tempted to visit The Swan again quite soon, perhaps this time actually eating on the premises and enjoying the general ambience.

This Chinese you can not fault absolutely outstanding the staff are very very friendly the food is fantastic and you can tell if there is different chefs on different nights but the food is still top notch takeaway or eating in is very nice the owner Michael is very friendly and the staff and team he has working for him are brilliant couldn't recommend this restaurant enough!!

I had food here on a Monday evening and the waitress who served me was appalling. Very poor attitude and a very unappealing manner. She even tutted when i did not leave a tip - the cheek! The food was overpriced and the curry i was given was terrible. I would strongly recommend NOT eating here.

This place just needs to up its customer service by about ten percent then it will get 5 stars good food reasonably priced and attentive staff but they are a little bit off in there attitude don't know why ?

Just ordered a take away from The Swan as we have no cash so used them as they take debit card.

If you like over priced, tasteless, cold and small portioned Chinese food then this is the place for you. It's very rare that the entire takeaway is not eaten in this house but on this occasion the foxes can turn their noses up when it's all in the bin. For the price it's a complete waste of money.

The surprise was how busy the restaurant was at 7 pm on a Saturday Many regulars filled the tables We had not booked which appears essential in this very popular place The service was very good with plenty of staff to look after the busy tables Food is good but not exceptional but the service and atmosphere help Very efficient use of busy evening and will return

Thanks to this Chinese after the amount of grease in my food I am now a member of the t-birds, I can certainly say I've blocked my arteries and seriously decreased my life expectancy, should have gone new China I felt like I was at a diging for chicken like panning for gold after ordering the smoked "chicken" WORST CHINESE EVER!! Chilli beef was ok, the the pancakes for the duck on the other hand tasted like cardboard which may have been a good thing and absorbed some of the grease. In all fairness they did throw in 2 bags of prawn crackers as a bribe away from the food being so poor which also were poor

We have eaten at the Swan on many occasions and always found the food to be of a very high standard - absolutely delicious. We entertained friends from Shanghi and they also found to food to be of a very good standard. We can also recommend the great, efficient take away service that is also available - never disappoints!!

The first and only time we came here before today was about a year and a half ago. Back then it was okay, but nothing to write about.

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant and were very disappointed.

We were five couples in total and two tables were pushed together to accomodate us. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly; joining in the banter at the table and offering to take pictures of us all with our phones. We stayed later than closing time but the staff did not seem to mind at all. All in all a very pleasant evening out.

This is our local Chinese eatery and you cannot go wrong with the food which is always freshly made and well above the norm. A few improvements could be made 1) the service, as you must flag down the waitress which does not bother me but I can see why others complain and 2) it seems take away orders are given preferential treatment to diners so the delivery guy is back and forward through the restaurant as you eat.

Quite simply the worst Chinese take away I have ever had. Waited 90 minutes for food which was then barely warm, and threw half of it in the bin

My sister has been using this take away for some time now and has always complimented the food hear! So when deciding on a restaurant around the Chigwell/Epping area to celebrate our mom's birthday - The Swan seemed the most obvious choice! Boy were we wrong...

As you walk through the door the restaurant looks oozes class. The tables and beautifully laid out, crisp white table linen and polished glasses, just makes you want to sit down and eat.

Starters was okay quiet tasty . Then the main corse come up and that's when it all went wrong no taste just average food at best no atmosphere in the restaurant staff where not great very cold feel place but the food as I said was very average a million better places you could probably go

The Swan is a first class and the only Chinese Restaurant in Epping with excellent food and friendly and helpful staff, Michael the owner is on hand and make sure that everything is first class , his family have owned it for over 40 years , worth a visit

This is the second time I've visited the Swan, and both times were lovely. The food arrived quickly despite the place being packed, was very hot, good value, tasted lovely (much better than any other local Chinese!) and was great quality hence why we visited there despite not living in Epping. The staff were polite, happy to chat when spoken to, attentive and helpful. We arrived quite late and it was nearing their closing time which I was mindful of but the staff didn't rush us at all and actually reassured us to not worry about the time and just enjoy our meal which was very nice of them. I think the decor looks slightly dated and there was a small rip on the seat covered in gaffer tape I sat on, however it is clean, interesting and looks how you would imagine a Chinese restaurant to look, doesn't look bad at all really it's just me nit picking as I can't fault anything else about the place. When I lived in Epping we always got takeaway from them too and never had any complaints, we always found it to be just as yummy and always arrived in good time.

A group of 17 of us went to the Swan to celebrate my son's 40th Birthday. We couldn't find fault with anything at this restaurant. We were seated and served promptly and the food was absolutely delicious, all freshly cooked and piping hot. The staff were attentive without being intrusive which was a nice change. Would happily recommend this restaurant. Great food and service all at a reasonable price, even the drinks were reasonable which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant.

Waited so long for main course. people who came in after us were served and we were still waiting left there without eating no apology from the staff they were very rude. Will never go back there.

A good chinese restaurant at a decent price in Epping - this has now replaced the chinese restaurant at the other end of the high street that I had been frequenting for the past years. Far better service, quality of food, and VERY importantly - hygiene.

The food is good.I order from this place quite often.I am writting this review concerning the home delivery service . the guy on the phone is so rude and unfriendly. he would never accept that he is unable to understand the order and wasting time.He should be trained to be more polite and humble.When I requested to repeat the order he sounded so annoyed.Such an unapologetic behavior is a big let down.the food is good but the please do something about this rude guy.he is more upsetting than the calories I add with fatty food.!

I was told 45 minutes for delivery, over 2 hours later the food turns up. When you phone to complain they never answer. The quality of the food varies as they always seem to have new chefs. This used to be the chinese in the area, not anymore

Ordered takeaway from here whilst babysitting for a friend.

This has got to be the most disgusting Chinese, I have eaten in ages. They left the poo in there what they call King Butterfly prawn's, I could go further, in addition we eat a lot of Chinese, never here before and not once have we come home where our clothes smelt of grease. The Starters was for 4 people at £6.00 per head 3 small spear ribs,3 Prawn toast when you bit into it, oil swamped your plate, 4 frozen spring rolls, seaweed, and 3 Chicken skewers, wonder where they brought them from.

We have used the Swan several times for takeaway and always pleased with the food. the shredded chilli beef is particularly good! They will also customise dishes for you and make some not listed on the menu.

From reviews, we were expecting really nice food, but we were very disappointed. I definitely agree with the negative comments about the chicken balls - they have a really strange texture. They're like a paste, not chewy like meat should be. They also looked very slightly pink. I didn't trust them at all. Gross.
