The Sun Inn at Lightcliffe in Calderdale

Genuinely the worst meal out we have ever experienced. Out for a birthday dinner in a party of 8. We ordered 4 roast dinners, 1 fish and chips, 1 lasagne, Childs sausage and mash and chicken goujons with chips. All the roast dinners were stone cold, with potatoes and Yorkshire that looked like they would have been inedible even if they were warm. The fish and chips had a hair in and the lasagne looked like a child’s portion. The guojons were the only good piece of food delivered to the table. When we tried to highlight this to management we got told we should have brought this to their attention when we first tried our food, despite no check back and the fact it had been about 4 minutes. We were not happy with this so the end result was the roast dinners were removed from the bill, however this was after some back and forth with the management that we spoke to who came across as rude. There is food all over the Facebook page which looks lovely, however what we experienced was the complete opposite. You could not pay me to go back and eat here, however the waitresses that served us were lovely so that was something.

Awesome food and the beer is on point. Atmosphere is amazing really welcoming and bearing in mind it's winter it's lovely and toasty with roaring fires 🔥

We was all here on Saturday the first day of service between 7 of us, we had the burger lasagne pepperoni pizza kids sausage and mash also chicken wings, everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing fab prices too worth every penny, the service was quick all the members of staff in there are very friendly the owners are very welcoming couldn't ask for anything better will definitely be returning for food and drinks 🙂

Amazing food, drink and service it's been turned around to be a proper community and public place to meet friends and have a bite to eat and a lovely pint.

Came for Sunday lunch today and what can I say other than absolutely fantastic. We ordered Sunday lamb dinner, beef dinner, steak and ale pie and burger. The pie was huge and packed full of steak it was well worth the money. The lamb fell apart and was cooked to perfection...the veg tasty and homemade yorkies...burger was homemade and big portions with homemade chips. Very reasonable priced...staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble, this place is a hidden gem for real pub grub homemade you will not be disappointed xx

Absolute let down! Ordered the 6 for £25 plus a chilli and rice. Chilli advertised with sour cream and guacamole (it was served with nether) The chilli had 0 sauce so was basically flavoured mince! Salt and pepper steak bites were just steak in soy sauce with red onions and peppers! Chicken goujons, and onion rings were fried in the same tasteless batter. We were only served 5 of our 6 small plates and was not given any cutlery to eat our door with and food was cold by the time we got cutlery which we had to ask for! Notified staff that we were still waiting for mozzarella sticks which still didn't arrive, in the end we went to pay for our bill and was just leaving when the mozzarella sticks arrived! We left them on the table as these were also fried in the same tasteless batter! Needless to say we will not be returning! Not how we want to spend a Saturday evening leaving disappointed and annoyed!

Moz & Loz have just taken over the running of this pub. Lovely pub with a lovely atmosphere. They are also going to be doing pub grub. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Visited on a Sunday to have tea with my partner, daughter and her partner, Food was delicious service was excellent and we stayed to watch end of England match.. a most enjoyable evening.. will visit again

first time at the Sun Inn and must say the food was beautiful and it was best lasagna i've ever had. The staff was lovely too and very polite. you must try this place, you will not be disappointed, I will definitely be going back again

I would highly recommend The Sun Inn. The staff are really friendly - the food was lovely and you definitely get plenty. The prices are reasonable and the place itself has a nice atmosphere. Dogs are also allowed

Very quiet for Friday lunch but food was great. We both had the small plate which is great value. Scampi, chips and peas served with tartare sauce and then I had Apple and Peach crumble. My Dad had Ginger Sponge. Great portions and excellent service. Plenty off off-road parking.

Bar and car park set the tone; just not a welcoming. Decor is scruffy but the restaurant was filthy; that said the dog at the table next to us had a great time eating all the food off the floor. Actual plated food was very poor; mushy, salty and everything was served tepid to cold, albeit sometimes on scalding dishes. Staff seem really nice but massively missing some solid pub management here.

Sunday lunch. We were greeted by a very apologetic waitress who advised one pie was out of stock and the other had changed. Its not an extensive menu anyway. We chose 2 beef roasts, 1 pork and a SF Chicken. After an age the food arrived, the roasts a deluge of gravy with more on the side. I had the pork and it was tepid, so not sure if it had been waiting a while for serving or they actually serve it that way. It was palatable but nothing exceptional. The beef was similar. We attempted desert. Again a ridiculous wait and my bread and butter pudding was cool. The others ordered honeycomb brownies, but were actually served bounty ones. I could see this being a real issue for someone with nut allergies. We paid and left but won't be returning.

Met when you walk from the carpark with a group of people smoking and vaping, including the staff. At the bar there were several youth who looked about 15 years old, one of which thought he has a comedian. Another child , younger, sat on the other side of the bar drinking beer at the bar what looked to have been left by someone. At this point I started to look around for the ball pools as I didn't realise it had become a soft play area. Kids at the bar sat with vapes in their mouths and one of the staff members walking around doing the same. It's pathetic and I won't be going back.

A lovely pub with tasty food. Being passing here for a few years and kept saying we will try the food, finally got round to going on Sunday and we were not disappointed. The pub it self is clean, bright and airy, Staff are lovely too. Myself and other half had the Sunday roast, not one thing to complain about everything was tasty and cooked perfectly, also piping hot which is a must for me. Good choice for the children too who both ate everything on their plates which is a rare occurance, safe to say we will be back :)

Great food served here. Have also looked at their wider menu, which is full of great dishes. Service is great, happy & polite staff. Always coming around to check tables are clean & tidy & empty glasses are removed. The atmosphere is great, especially in the beer garden on a weekend. It's a busy pub, but there is always plenty of space & seating.

My daughter and partner took me for a birthday treat. I had heard rumours about how good the food was,so I chose this. One word. EXCELLENT!!!. The food was very nice,four of us all chose a different meal,and all four were very much impressed. Full plates too, excellent value for money. All staff members deserve special mention. Keep up the good work.

We had been to the mind body and soul fayre near by and stumbled on to this pub . My friends and I decided to try the food and we weren't disappointed, the food was freshly made , well presented , most importantly was very tasty and value for money . The young lady behind the bar needs praising too, she was very friendly, couldn't do enough for us and looked after us very well . I would happily drive out from Leeds again just to visit a nice , child friendly pub like this again .

Food is standard pub food. The fish and chips were very good, and the apple crumble had loads of apple

Place was empty 3 days before Christmas. Our party of 6 were the only ones there. No atmosphere no crackers, and the food was poor, especially the veg tartlet( bland) a waste of money!!!

Got the serloin steak asked for medium rare when it came it was burnt and well done clearly don’t know how to cook a steak would not recommend at all not worth 20 quid at all

Can't really give an accurate review as it was quiet due to the bonfire down the road. But nice staff and nice bar area.

£12.06 wow!!! for a double tanqray and slimline tonic with a bag of pork scratchings. Had one and left couldn't afford another!

Was not impressed was tea time on a Sunday. Only food on offer was cavery it was ok nothing fantastic.

So disappointed with the food service today following Miss Stevens funeral The food was far too late !!! As most mourners had already left - Not a good send off for a much loved lady who put so very much into her life 😢

Brilliant experience when visiting for a carvery from calling to book a table right through to leaving the building. Jack at the carvery counter was especially helpful.

Very fine and a good amount of food with excellent service, decent prices. Well recommended so I'll be going again.

Pleasant surroundings and lovely friendly staff, let down by mediocre carvery, vegetables warm, decent amount of meat, choice of 4 meats. Can't say I've had much better so I've give it 4 stars.

Seats were quite dirty. Serving time for the carvery was very slow.

Lovley pub food nice but not the mushy peas they looked like they had been scraped from bottom of the pan with added mint and I thought I could taste tarragon Just plain mushy peas for me I would like to add my own mint if I want it with my fish chips

Fantastic place to eat! Met up with family for a lovely Sunday lunch. Brilliant staff… made to feel very welcome and very easy going with us all. The only down side was when we left the pub to go to our cars in the car park, a black Vauxhall car came speeding in and we had to move out off the way quickly and we had children with us. I commented on this to the 3 males getting out off the car” why drive so fast in a pub car park on a Sunday afternoon? When there are children about?!! They were very rude to me and my wife and one of them wanted to fight with me. I had the feeling they had all been drinking including the driver! This puts us off coming again, which is a shame because we had a lovely time up to this point. 🙁

Four friends and I went for lunch, we all had a delicious meal, the steak and guiness pie had a lovely butter crust and it was full if tasty tender meat, gorgeous, lovely staff, just a bit chilly and unfortunately not very busy, but if you want something tasty, you can't go wrong

Fabulous carvery - Wednesdays 2 for 1. Can't beat it - try the chocolate orange cake it's out of this world!

Nice decor and pleasant staff.The downside was the poor choice on the menu. The waitress said the owners have only recently took over the pub, and were waiting to get another chef, to do an Al a carte choice. The food we did have was reasonable but we did not go out for Pie of the day and mushy peas.

We have just enjoyed a beautiful Mother’s Day roast dinner take away. The quality was amazing and portions plentiful. We will definitely be returning.

Fab nicely refurbed pub that serves very gòod food, great and polite staff, adequate parking only faults I can see is poor outside seating area and they need to draught proof windows as can be cold in some seating areas.

A standard but decent pub restaurant. The service was a bit spotty, took a few minutes for us to be seated by a very flustered host. Once seated we were seen to fairly quickly. The food was decent for the price (less than £10 a main) and the portions were very generous. The menus we saw online were a lot more enticing than what we were shown once inside, which was disappointing. They have some basics but nothing creative, don't be expecting a culinary experience, but do expect to be full and satisfied for a good price.
