The food here was homecooked and traditional. All five of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. 3 roast beef Sunday dinners had beautifully cooked veg....no soggy, limp carrots and peas. The beef was incredibly tender and melted in the mouth.mmmmm!!!My nephew had lasagne with garlic bread and chips,he was definitely a fan.My sister had fishgoujons....you certainly wouldn't go hungry. It was huge and scrummy. The prices were very very reasonable. We had no room for puds which was disappointing!!I bet they are as good as the mains.we met the cook and she was also a lovely lady.In a nut shell,I would be frequently be in this pub if I lived nearer, meanwhile my relatives have found a lovely pub to have a delicious meal.Thankyou

Seven years since my last review and we are still enjoying eating regularly at the Stockpot! Everything is delicious and prepared with care, very generous portions and well priced. There is a varied regular menu and a specials board which changes regularly so there's always something to tempt you. We especially love the Christmas menu which is excellent quality and value and has become one of our favourite traditions in the run up to Christmas. Janet, Colin and the girls are welcoming and friendly. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Stopped by this favourite watering hole on a monday. The place was packed due to a funeral party. Had the Phoenix Brewery Arizona Ale (Dry as a desert). As the photograph shows this hand pulled cask ale was ansolute perfection. As a cask ale unlike Craft or Lager beer lives and breathes in the barrel. This pub landlord is on top of his game, spotless glasses and clean lines. Look at the Photo, perfection.

I've been an occasional visitor here as I have friends in Saddleworth and we've used The Welly for breakfasts on football trips. It's always my favourite on this particular day as they are so well organised, plenty of staff and an orderly queuing system. There were about 15 of us and it was effortless. Maybe next year the Bands can start there. Hoping to get back soon and try out the new menu.

Called in this pub on Good Friday with friends from the train at Greenfield station. Cask ale selection was good, settled for the local brew Millstone, in superb condition. Pub was full with people dining early evening. We did not eat ourselves but watched the empty plates going back to the kitchen, always a good sign. Apparantly the kitchen is rented out and is open Wed, Friday and Sunday. Food is hearty and traditional but we will try it soon, beef rag pudding or battered fish look particularly good. Recommend reserving a table as it gets busy.

After a very damp misty day at Upperwood we retired en mass to the Wellington. Looked a bit " average" from the outside but just goes to show how some of the best pubs are best experienced from the beating heart! Very impressed, packed with locals and extremely welcoming. We were a party of at least x20 and all were served by helpful, friendly staff. Locals at the bar instantly engaged in friendly chat/banter and I wished I could have stayed all night. Quality range of beers available and I had the "Owl" bitter, first class. Didn't eat but wouldn't hesitate , highly recommended.

We found the Wellington after a visit to Dove Stone reservoir, about a five to ten minute drive away (parked near the Tesco and the pub is short walk). For a Sunday afternoon the pub seemed very quiet and at the time we were the only people eating, a few locals drinking at the bar. The service was swift and friendly and the three course offer we went for was certainly great value. It was good to find an unpretentious pub offering proper home cooked food. We both had lamb and it was like a dinner you expect your own mother to provide: plenty of gravy, decent roast spuds, tender meat and vegetables not overly cooked.

Love this place! We recently moved into the area and have already eaten here a few times. Delicious, non-fussy home cooked food at very reasonable prices. Our first visit to this pub started with a personal welcome from the chef with whom I had had a telephone call earlier in the day. "Are you from Holmfirth?" she asked. "In that case we've got a table reserved for you"A proper pub with proper home made food and a wide array of proper ales (we had Thwaites Wainwright which was tip top) Nothing fancy, just honest down to earth victuals. The service was warm and friendly. I was told by a local that it is customary to buy everyone in the pub a drink when you first visit...........but I think that she was joking. Wasn't she?

Once again followed The Good Beer Guide and travelled across the beautiful moors to this cosy pub. When we arrived, we almost didn't go in as there was a man stood in the doorway smoking. However decided not to waste the journey, which was the right decision as tHe beer was brilliant and cheap at £2.70. The food is not run by the pub but by the Stock Pot, a local woman seemed to be the chef, and this was equally good and also excellent value. Recommend the rag pudding with home made chips - if you don't like gravy though, tell them as it's automatically applied.

The service was welcoming, but we were there midweek and there were few other diners in the pub, so it should have been prompt. There is a smell of chips over-hanging the pub. The portions are large and it is good value, but the salmon was so over-cooked that it was far too dry and needed a sauce. It was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, so was very disappointing. Wide choice of dishes available. Food not served Monday evenings.
