The Star Sandal in Wakefield

Just had drink so cannot comment on food, but always busy, unfortunately couldn't get a seat so only stayed for one. Been visiting this pub over 40 years on and off, after a few discreet refurbishments along the way, it still remains it's beautiful, typical old English pub. Dogs allowed too Which gets a big tick in my book !

I love this pub. The ale selection is amazing always something different to choose from. Always a good atmosphere, dog friendly good car park and live music. The staff are very friendly and good at the jobs they do

Welcoming and hot sausage rolls to share

Beer quality has gone down over the past year, no longer the pub it was. Won't be going again in the near future. Beer garden a mess with poor furniture.

Went for a pie and chips dinner and it was the best I've ever had lots of meat good quality chips and peas gravy. 😋

Always busy on a Friday and Saturday night, with a lively atmosphere. Limited seating when it's busy, so prepare to stand! Outdoor seating to the front in the carpark or in the beer garden to the rear. Sundays they provide complimentary home cooked nibbles such as roast potatoes, sausage rolls or antipasti platter

Past this pub so many times and wanted to visit as it looked so nice and welcoming. Finally manged to come for a visit. At first my husband I thought it was a nice little pub and was enjoying a dink after visiting the italan next door. The evening was cut short as a regular decided to attack my husband with abusive language for no reason and was looking for a fight. It was obviously the regular that was at fault but he wasn't asked to leave making my husband and I feel unwelcome. Being "ex army" is no excuse to behave that way. We won't be visiting again and unless you'd like to run the risk of being attacked by regulars I would advise visiting either. Maybe training for staff on how to deal with abusive customers would be an advantage.

Used to be a nice place. Now nobody seems to be bothered the bar is constantly piss wet through, never wiped up. 2 things you can guarantee here, never get a seat and wet sleeve

Clean and tidy pub, roaring fire and great beer brewed by the pub.

Nice pub, nice cask ales, just don't go here if you want a coffee because they don't sell it!

Great little pub, we used to frequent this place a lot a few years back and then it got turned into a fancy restaurant which killed it for us, however it has been taken over again by the current owners and its back to being a cracking little boozer, real ale on tap and friendly staff, this is how a pub should be run.. Highly recommended.

Favourite pub in the whole world, me and my boyfriend love coming in on Monday for pie night! It’s literally to die for. The staff are all so lovely and smiley and make the experience so much better, will miss this pub while I’m away for uni :(

Went for a quiet drink after work and stumbled on the quiz night... I haven't seen a pub that busy in ages it was lovely to see... Great atmosphere, great service, a lovely traditional pub feel. Definitely recommend for what ever night you're looking for.

Lovely setting however disinterested staff and a rowdy set of customers which even after mentioning they were been inappropriate nothing was done so we left

What can I say. First time visiting here and I was very surprised. Beautiful pub with very friendly people and wonderful bar staff. Open fires add to the welcoming experience. Highly recommended.

2 drinks good (a cider and a beer) BUT Timothy Taylor’s was flat!! Took it back- was told that it was a new barrel on, (Not sure what that was supposed to mean, the beer was still flat as a pancake!). Bought a cider - £4.20

This is literally my favourite pub, its a proper pub. Unfortunately I live miles away so i can only have 1 pint per visit. Lovely ales, very clean well pulled lager and most importantly awesome staff. Very friendly. A really nice friendly atmosphere, no idiots even on a friday saturday night. Its full, very busy but busy with decent folk. Plus lots a dogs wandering round for a stroke which is awesome in my book
