Family trip to Holyhead , we had been in local shops and they staff had recommended the Stanley arms to us. All said food was lovely ,Now in fairness there was 16 of us in our group . We were shopping and Few of us had when in first sat down and were looking at menus. From when we walked in door the lady behind the bar had a issue , normally to me as work in hospitality/bar trade for over 25 years . I would always greet customers or guests and ask them could get anything or drink, but from moment we walked in . It was Apparent that the redheaded lady (who would not give a name ) didn’t want us there, as more of our group came in , my son (12 year old) walked in last and lady screamed at him ,you are not allowed in with that ( hot choc) . My mother in law reply sorry and she screamed again , There was no need to scream at a child , if she had of just called one of us over wouldn’t of been a problem. when we asked to speak to manger she laughed and said he’s not here come back at five , I have never in my life had to deal with that rude behaviour and attitude and screaming at 12 year old boy . We were in no rush to order our food and totally understand , she might Been a bit shocked at size of group , but we were in no rush . We were tried to talk to her she just shouted leave or call the police , we were shocked at her attitude, we just left. I wonder as b&b also too how you speak to guests/ people & child like that especially as recommended to us , I would not recommend this Establishment to anyone and If I was manger there would most definitely try to advise her on how to deal with customers, just not at all . We left a had a beautiful meal and staff we so nice and friendly in another local establishment. But to anyone thinking of giong here to eat or stay beware , much nicer friendly places to go

My nephew and I had a very good supper in the pub this evening. We’re staying at the Travelodge before sailing to dublin and the pub was recommended to us. There’s a wide choice of foods (all savoury dishes) and they were extremely tasty and at a reasonable cost. The staff were helpful and the atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming.

The Stanley is located splendidly in the heart of Holyhead. Though the decor leaves room for improvement, the service is very good and I was glad to see Loose Women being screened at lunch time. The food was very good, flavoursome. The menu adopts a street food theme. A beer garden is also provided.

Came on a weekend away and found this little pub so me and my partner popped in. Straight away the bar man gave us a frosty reception. My partner enquired when they started serving food and the man behind the bar said “4” no conversation at all. We sat down and at 4 the man came round and gave every table menu’s apart from ours. It quickly became clear he didnt want us there so we drank our drinks and left: we’ll happy take our money elsewhere as other pubs in Holyhead have been very welcoming and friendly. Wouldn’t ever recommend it to anyone.

My husband and me stayed at the Stanley Arms while looking for a flat in Anglesey. The house-hunt took longer than expected, so we had to extend our stay - no problem at all at this wonderfully friendly place! And not only that, the rooms are perfect, spacy with en suite bathroom, TV and all the other amenities, and downstairs there's a pub-restaurant with great pub grub and drinks! The location is ideal as well, right in the town centre and yet very quiet.

Stopped off here for lunch on our way back to Porthmadog from visiting RSPB South Stacks. We were made welcome and chose the fish and chips, which was delicious. Fresh plaice in a light batter, good chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce all included in the price, which was very reasonable. Not the smartest decor but friendly and efficient. Good place for a tasty meal.

My sister and I both chose a burger with prawns and fries from the menu but did not anticipate how delicious this meal would be! The deep fried prawns were simply the most beautifully cooked either of us have ever tasted. The burger was amazing too.But what really made this lunch a great experience for us was the lovely service from the lady who served us. She was really helpful, genuine and natural, a credit to the pub. I hope this great pub can survive these Coronacrazy times. The town of Holyhead is far richer for it's presence!

I paid bottom dollar for a single room here. Didn't expect much. The room was quiet in the middle of town and en suite. True it wasn't as clean as some pedants might like it but if you want a cheap stop over in Holyhead then this is the place. Soon after Co-vid they will do food, which is also bang to the buck.

En route to Dublin, and having driven most of the day to get to our hotel in Holyhead, we decided to have a quiet meal and an early night. Looking around town we alighted on a bar/grille establishment which looked good value, so strode in only to be told very off-handedly they were fully booked - full stop. No trying, as most places do, to shuffle things round to fit us in. This is where fate steps in because, wandering up the street, we came across the Stanley into whose Arms we fell. What a crowded, warm friendy place - in no time there was an excellent pint on the table swiftly followed by some of the best fish and chip dishes we have encountered. A great night, just what we wanted and a great start to our holiday.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Holyhead and this was one of the few pubs still serving food. Ended up being a great choice. It was a nice clean looking pub, the food was well priced and served quickly, and we both thought it was very nice. Especially for the price charged.

I didn't eat in the restaurant, and I wish I could have done judging by the great reviews. I arrived at the Stanley Arms in the evening with my luggage and I was tired, and I just needed to relax and sleep in my room. I sank into the lovely, soft bedding and slept like a log. The room was comfortable, clean and warm, and I felt relaxed. I had all the facilities, and the room was an extremely reasonable price, I was very impressed. The landlord and landlady were friendly and kind, and I got a lovely welcome, and on the second morning, when I met the landlord, he booked me a taxi and took my bags out and put them in the boot of the taxi. I would recommend the Stanley Arms and I'll definitely be staying there next time I take the ferry to Dublin, and on the way back home. Next time I'll make a point of sampling the delicious grub - the meals sound absolutely mouthwatering. All in all, a very good experience. Thank you.

Sadly Holyhead has seen better days but for those who love the beautiful coastline of Anglesey or are on their way to Ireland, this pub is a good solid stop for food and a few pints.Haven't stayed there so can't comment on the rooms but the bar is comfortable, no-frills pub with friendly staff and food that arrives very quickly in my experience. At the risk of being a beer-bore, just a pity they seem to have a persistent shortage of real-ale (see other people's reviews). I would always have an extra pint or two if there was just one real -ale available and I suspect many others would too!

We visited on the 4th of May and were going to eat here until we stood at the bar and was told by a local we might have to wait a while as they were short staffed and the bar man was also cooking the food. I could see in the kitchen and sure enough the bar man was in and out serving drinks and cooking - not once did I see him wash his hands. As we waited to be served I could see several people eating what looked nice meals so after we got our drinks we sat down at a table to view the menu which was sticky and covered in a greasy film and food. The table hadn't been wiped and I started to look around and noted that not many diners had actually finished their meals. We saw an 8.2 out of 10 Tripadvisor on the window and wondered why as we were totally put off. As we didn't eat here I really cannot judge the food but the hygiene side made us decide against eating here, I also found the amount of unfinished meals really weird as its not like the portions were huge.

My partner and his family booked in here on NYE and we’re pleasantly surprised with what we turned up to. When we first walked into the BnB we went into the bar area which looked tired and dated so I didn’t hold out much expectation on the rooms at this point ! However we were shown to our rooms and they were beautiful, spacious and clean , clearly newly refurbished and to a high standard . The BnB is a family run business and they were such lovely friendly people and so helpful . They explained that they are slowly working their way through renovating the BnB . This family have spared no expense or rushed the rooms which are reasonable value for the standard . The only thing the rooms lacked were clothes storage and breakfast , although there were hangers on the back of the doors and the beds were super comfy . Once this BnB is finished throughout It will be a little Gem especially with this family and lovely staff running it . We will definitely be staying again and look forward to seeing the further progress on our next stay . Thank you so much

We, grandparents, our son and his two girls aged 14 & 10, headed to Holyhead, from our accommodation in Caernarfon, on what was a very windy dirzzly day. We parked in a place that had a two hour limit and headed off on foot to have a quick look at Holyhead. It started to rain reasonably heavy and as it was lunch time and the Stanley Arms was right there they got our patronage quite by accident. But against all odds we all enjoyed our meals immensely. My husband and I decided that we would have a light lunch as we had been eating too much on holiday. He had pea soup with thick chunky bread, I had garlic gibatta with mushrooms in garlic sauce, and we shared some spicy wedges. The mushrooms were delicious, some of the best I have ever eaten, and the lady who served us was very friendly. We are not likely to get back there as we live in New Zealand, but take our word for it this pub is worth seeking out if you are in the area.

this was not our first visit to the stanley arms - its somewhere we go whenever we are on the return journey back to holyhead port and the ferry home to ireland . dont be put off by the fact that this is a small pub and a little bit 'used ' looking in decor - the meals here are very good , both value wise and in taste and portion . this time around my wife went for the fresh cod in beer batter served with thick chips ,mushy peas and tartare sauce - when it came out it was a whale sized portion of fish - perfectly cooked in a light but crispy batter -none of that 'soggy' half cooked goo you get in a lot of places -or that 'fish finger ' sized breaded pre frozen rubbish so many so called eateries are serving these days - this was proper fish and chips !! and NOTHING beats good old fashioned fish and chips near the sea . i myself opted for the grilled gammon steak served with onion rings ,mushrooms ,chips and garden peas - again i was not to be disappointed with the portion that was presented - the menu says " a 6oz gammon" this was nearer 8oz -perfectly grilled and the home made onion rings (in the same beer batter as the fish) were cooked through while the batter was crisp and light . on previous occasions i have tried the homemade chicken curry -the mushroom tagliatelle (with chicken and bacon option an extra £2 but unfortunately for me the last one had been sold ) the young lady behind the bar informed us that the menu was about to be changed soon as winter was coming in and heartier meals would reflect this seasonal change . with a very nice pint of stout and a glass of lager for my wife our dinner came to under £30 . if i had one slight criticism of the stanley arms it would be that they don't sell alcohol free beers - a must for anyone traveling onwards after getting off the ferry or about to get onto the ferry . we will be back again the next time we go visiting family in the uk .

Not the case as there was no chef on Sunday and they were not serving food. Fortunately there was an open restaurant just a short walk away.As a hotel it was very good with friendly staff and a clean and reasonably priced room. The stairway leading to the rooms above the bar/restaurant is somewhat narrow and winding so you would not want to be hauling multiple large suitcases up these stairs. Ten minutes later we were served with our burgers, chips and salad. I had the beefburger and it was one of the tastiest I have had; O/H had the chicken burger which was two fillet pieces in a spicy coating. The young lady came to check everything was o.k. Imagine the scene......on holiday very hungry, wandering around trying to find a decent but inexpensive place to eat and disappointment setting in as all you have found up to now is the "usual pub grub" We decided upon the Stanley Arms as it had 2 dishes available for our vegetarian daughter but had no high expectations. How wrong could we have been........The meals we chose were good quality, very tasty, beautifully home cooked dishes. The lasagne I had was the best I'd eaten in a while, my husbands steak and ale pie was incredible and the burgers our daughters had were top notch. The vegetarian burger was full of recognisable vegetables (not mush) and she loved it.......so much so that we went back the next evening as we were so impressed with our meals.......and she happily had the same again. Added to the equation that on both evenings the staff were friendly, helpful and engaged in conversation with us even though the pub seemed to be a "local" making us feel very welcomed. As a family we were all very happy and feeling smug that we had stumbled across possibly the best eatery in Holyhead!

Day trip to holyhead with the family, food was very good, and served promptly. Left to walk back towards ferry terminal, and 5mins later a now out-of-breath barmaid who had served us our food appeared in front of us with my wife's phone which she had not realised she had left behind in the pub. We were so shocked we didn't get to say thanks properly. Thank you so much.

Went here in June and reviewed food bein lovely.Went back at end of July what a difference!!!I couldn't believe it.I thought I'm gunna have burger as last visit saw someone else's and thought yep definitely next time.Got there no menu only a board with a list scribbled on.So we thought we would risk it and I wish I never.I ordered the "house burger "and my partner fish and chips. The "house burger "arrived a slab of mince on a toasted small bun with lightly cooked greasy chips,a bit of lettuce and quarter of a tomato. No cheese or sauces.Fish and chips was greasy and the same pale cheap chips. When asked if I could have some cheese for my burger I got a bowl of grated and had to pay extra!I really hope they wer having a bad day or week as it was terrible.Hope they get it sorted cos they're really good ppl and it's a crackin little pub

We read reviews on this pub before we went and were not disappointed. All the staff are happy, and genuinely went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Special thanks to Emily, for taking our order even though we were a little late. Food was excellent, I had pork ribs and my husband had the steak....cooked to our perfection. Will return on our next visit to Anglesey.

This pub proved to be an excellent find in Holyhead - we visited it twice. The menu is reasonably varied with a fairly standard selection of pub food items offered at very reasonable prices. Our order arrived very quickly and was well cooked, hot and tasty. The portion sizes were excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. The pub ambience is perhaps not ideal but well worth putting up with for the great food on offer.

With a high street of very little shopwise, Holyhead has some surprising little gems for a drink and a bite to eat. The republicans and customers alike are all friendly and welcoming. Stanley Arms offers a varied menu and often bar snacks.

Emily can serve me any day, she has lovely communicational skills and the nerves of being a new boy in town she made me feel at home, she even suggested masterbational material for the evening ahead, this consisted of Mr Blobby and Edmond's getting together , Jamie on the other hand just wanted to sort his love life out

To be fair we were advised to go to a restaurant outside Holyhead. We did decide to eat in Holyhead and will regret it for the foreseeable future,,,,We picked The Stanley Arms,On going to bar we were told to select a table and order at bar and there was a specials board. So far so good. The good ended there. We were then told what was not available. No fish and chips, Hunters Chicken plus some other dishes but strangely enough for a pub no red wine. That is none at all.We opted for curry and at same time two bottles of small wine. We were told that they would be brought across. After 15 mins went and got them ourselves as barman seemed unconcerned with serving paid for drinks.Curry came and was ok. Had a kick to it but constitution was bland.Food is advertised until 8.00pm. A disinterested member of staff collected menu off table at 7.35pm. I asked if food had finished and this was confirmed. As we had just finished our main course asked if this included desserts. This did indeed include desserts being finished half way through our meal and 25 minutes before food being advertised as finishing. The female member of staff seemed more interested in chatting with people outside! One customer who asked for a drink when she was ready as told he would have to wait ! Shabby inside, music channel blaring away all in all avoid at all costs in my opinion.

We were looking for somewhere to eat when we came across this establishment. Firstly the welcome was friendly and from there it got better. The Combo for 2 was delicious and the Fish and chips was as good. The quality and quantity were truly value for money. Service attentive. A gem of a place to eat in Holyhead. Will be back.

We went here after reading excellent reviews. Unfortunately they had just taken their last order of the evening so we were unable to eat there. The food they brought out food other customers looked fantastic. Huge portions and looked homemade. It was 8:30pm, we thought it was early for them to finish serving food.

I can't believe that I have not been here before, given the number of times I have waited for ferries at Holyhead. This pub has an extensive menu including great value of 2 meals for £10. The serving was huge but more than this the quality was there in the meal. The lanlord was very welcoming and obliged us by giving us take-away containers for what we simply could not eat at the time.

Needed somewhere for lunch on a Sunday in Holyhead whilst waiting for train. Welcomed very warmly by landlord, and chose from a comprehensive menu. My BLT sandwich with chips was well cooked and tasty, and my companions praised their Chili con Carne jacket potatoes. The portions were very generous. The service was excellent. Would not hesitate to return.
