The Spice Garden in Bury

Authentic family run Thai restaurant offering a very high standard of food and service. As a party of four we all had different dishes and shared, i can honestly say every dish was out of this world and presented beautifully. Wine to accompany was well priced and delicious.

Visited last night, food was exceptional and lovely service. Really cute little restaurant.

Ordered a takeaway as we have had one from here previously (had to wait a long time then but luckily knew the people dining as I was more or less sat on their table where I was told to wait, Anyway thought Id give them another try...again long wait past when we was told it would be ready, after getting it home in torrential rain it was barely warm. chicken satay was inedible it was that overcooked, my sons squid dish contained 4 tiny pieces of squid, There was 3 KP in another dish we had ordered and this place is not cheap!! was a total let down, portions are tiny, tried to call them on my partners phone to complain and went through to voicemail. Tried again the next day on my phone 3times again no answer, l messaged them on Social Media and received a response... in a nutshell saying we should have brought it back for a refund!! (Like you'd want to pack it all up and go back out in the rain. They then tried to say they hadn't received any calls on their call log, I forwarded them my call logto prove a point and then they said they'd offer me 30% off my next order... I will not be going back.

Fantastic food, friendly staff. And do a mega Larb GUI even though not in menu! Quaint and great.

We came Friday night for a birthday meal and absolutely loved it. We all had starters and main courses and every dish was delicious! We like spicy, though if you don’t, certainly go for mild not medium. Very authentic taste, I’ve been to Thailand and love everything from lemongrass, sweet basil, ginger and the taste was great. Nice ladies serving our meals. All in all a great night and would recommend. (Our dishes ranged from Thai red curry, sweet basil with chicken, holy basil with duck, king prawn dishes!!)

It was good food just a bit overpriced for the portionsize.

Our favourite Thai restaurant. The food is amazing! The staff are so friendly and provide a great service. We go regularly and have also had takeaway several times. It’s always great food. Would highly recommend.

We waited over an hour and half for our main courses. We did not receive any communication why it took so long. When we received the bill, we asked for a discount for the long wait. We received no discount and only excuses. What frustrated me most is we wouldn’t of even got an apology if we not complained.

This Thai food is authentic and tasty. First time we have visited after trying to find somewhere local for good Thai food. We travelled from Rochdale and were not disappointed , the food was amazing !!!!!!

Food appalling and when raised this with staff we where asked to leave and not come back (after being asked to pay). No customer service and no questions asked about why we said the food wasn’t satisfactory.

Very nice little restaurant, food was authentic and the 'hot' level of the food is not to be underestimated which is a bonus for me.

We had a lovely meal here yesterday. They didn't have my favourite - vegetable masamam - so I had a red curry instead and it was delicious and packed with vegetables. They also make proper sweetcorn fritters which I've had trouble finding so I was very happy. The ladies working there were also very pleasant. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area. Feel like I've been to a different restaurant to the earlier reviews. Had an absolutely fantastic Thai meal here this evening. The food wasn't instant, but there definitely wasn't a wait longer than any other restaurant. Importantly the food was clearly cooked fresh, cooked to a spice level of your choosing and was served neat and clean with obvious care and attention taken with garnish and presentation. Even giving out piping hot plates to eat from just prior to the food arriving, sometimes it's the little touches that go a long way. It isn't the cheapest, but with the curries the same price as local bistros serving "Thai food" its definitely not excessive either. When done right also, I don't mind paying the little extra to support a local business either. I'm not an extensive world traveller, nor have I walked the back streets of Bangkok, so unfortunately I'm not the absolute authority on all things Thai like some reviewers. That said, it felt there was a genuine pride put into the food here. Easily one of the best Thai meals we've had as a family and can't wait to go again. Top stuff.

Small place so book. Excellent service, but food didn't hit the mark for someone who travels the world and eats out a lot... nice folk, but sorry won't be returning. No 12 TOM YUM SOUP - Very good but lacking, gets the back of the throat and spicy. Not overly chilli hot so an excellent balance and enjoyed but lacking authenticity. Only 2 King Prawns with lots and lots of ordinary button mushrooms - come on, what happened to authentic Asian mushrooms, Straw, Shitake, Oyster etc. No Kafir leaves etc etc to add some flavours ! No 11 "SPICY" SALAD - It's not the traditional Thai Papaya spicy salad, it's YAM salad ! so very different, unexpected huge disappointment. It's fruity with Grapes (no mention of fruit on description !), not spicy at all and cold. Didn't like it at all, despite sending it back and was still sweet, cold, bland the second time around. No 27 HOLY BASIL (Pad Grap Pow) - Bland, didn't hit the mark at all and was supposed to contain fresh Chilli, Garlic and Basil dish.

Possibly the nicest Thai food I've ever eaten. Eight of us in the party and everyone got served at the same time, food hot and nicely prepared. Service was relaxed but efficient and friendly. One word of warning - parking is awful but that's not the restaurant's fault.

With a big birthday looming I wanted to do something extra special. The team from the Spice Garden came to the house and cooked a selection of starters and mains for 20 of my friends. What a treat! Gae and her team cooked, served, topped up glasses and left the kitchen cleaner than when they arrived! Every meal was delicious and the portions huge. In fact my friends were queuing up for a doggy bag.

We have just been to a party that the Spice Garden catered for . The food and service were both excellent! . Can highly recommend!

Good food, plenty of friendly staff.

Between having prawn crackers upon ordering to getting our starters, we waited for an hour. Then we had to wait another 30 minutes for our main. We had soup to start, both seafood and vegetarian, both of which were effectively bowls of spicy water. My main course (red curry) was nice, but the ginger and spring onion main someone else in my party had was also like water. None of the mains came with rice or sides, which meant the cost of a main course was very expensive. Overall a poor experience and I would certainly not recommend this restaurant.

Over priced and over cooked not authentic won't recommend

We are regular visitors to Levanter, next door, but hadn't eaten at The Spice Garden for many years. A few adverse recent reviews caused us some concern but we needn't have worried. The weather was still very warm at 7.30pm and we were glad we had reserved a table in the covered area in the street outside. Menus were swiftly brought and our chosen drinks (a well chilled and reasonably priced South African Chenin blanc) followed a couple of minutes later, along with a jug of iced water. We took some time studying the menu, finally deciding on the platter of various starters (chicken satay, pork wonton, spring rolls etc) to be followed by a Thai green chicken curry, a beef massaman curry, pad Thai with king prawns, some rice and a dish new to us "crying tiger", sliced rump steak with a flavoursome tamarind sauce., all to be shared amongst the four of us. The wait for our starters was quite lengthy, almost at the limit of acceptability, and we had almost finished the bottle of wine by the time the food arrived. It was, however, delicious. Fortified by a second bottle of the excellent Chenin blanc, we enjoyed the man courses even more - delicate flavours and tender, well-cooked meats. Star of the show was that Crying Tiger beef but both the curries were delicious too. The Pad Thai was not quite like anything I've eaten in Thailand but was tasty and contained several large, juicy prawns. All in all, a highly enjoyable meal, served by charming young ladies in a pleasant atmosphere. It all took a solid two hours but it was well worth it and we shall be returning before too long.

Can't mention the food as only went for drink. But the service was spot on. We took a look at the menu though which now includes Thai tapa which we think is a great idea if your just there to enjoy a drink and socialise. I love the way the street has been turned into open seating area for the two restaurants on there.

The overall quality of the food was fine for what we had of it, and probably slightly above average, however the portion size of both main meals was below significantly expectations, it was inadequate and comparatively expensive compared to others. Both rice portions were totally inadequate size wise and were at the top end price wise, The chicken and cashew nuts main meal had three broken in half nuts in it and was again a small portion, with a minimal amount of meat in it. The other main meal was also small failed to meet expectations. In all honesty we came way feeling hungry and disappointed. The service was fine, but we were not asked to check in using the NHS covid app and the person taking the order did not wear the face mask properly. The mask must be work over the nose and mouth and not just over the mouth or chin. .

I’ve been coming here for years but the same problems persist, now with a few added Covid ones. We sat outside on a warm evening. As others have said, sitting inside is really distracting as you end up with people collecting takeaways by your table all night. I’ve stopped getting takeaways as they only start cooking it when you arrive, no matter when you order, meaning you have an uncomfortable wait next to inside diners in a small area. So, back to outside, service was slow (mainly because they seemed to be sorting lots of takeaways out) and it was an hour after booking time before starters arrived. If I’m being honest, service was a bit brusque by some of the staff. My starters were very fresh and my curry was fine but I was a bit put off by staff touching their masks all the time. Every staff member who served us was touching their masks. I’m no hygiene obsessive but at a time when cases are rising in the area, there needed to be better awareness. Server would touch mask then put food or drinks down. Didn’t instil me with confidence. I keep giving them another chance as I’ve been going since they opened, but I think I’m over it now. They need to raise their game service-wise and keep their hands off their masks!

I have eaten here before and recommended it but sadly not again. Finding a fish bone in a vegetarian Pad Thai dish is unacceptable, The chef had obviously used a fish stock. Apologies were made and the dish deducted from the bill however unfortunately I can’t trust that their dishes are truly vegetarian so I will never return.

Couldn't have been better. Thai omelette for him, teriyaki beef and rice for me. Friendly staff, bank holiday sun shining. Perfect. And if you're looking for alcohol/ sweetener free drinks try the lychee nectar. Delicious.

Very promising starters after 25 mins. Mains 45 mins. What a waste of time for mediocre food. Staff could only say sorry for lateness due to take aways priorities please. Never never again.

Amazing main course but very slow service. Took ages waiting for a bottle of wine. Also got my starter after everyone had finished theirs, which wasn't great especially considering it was beef salad and the beef in the salad didn't taste of anything. The fish Penang was amazing.

Food was decent but they literally cleaned and removed all the other tables while we ate which made us a little uncomfortable and we felt rushed.

So.... The Spice Garden in Rammy is a tad over committed tonight... Waiting with my fellow take away colleagues, that is slowly growing in number.... 30 minutes in now... Hearing terms like "no more takeaways, the kitchen can't cope" .... Have to say, the place does lovely food, but they have over committed and under managed the situation... Zero communications.... I'm so for supporting local business, but I'm far from impressed..... Additional, I'm still here... 45 minutes in, staff swearing at others in the kitchen now, tad chaotic.... Extremely unprofessional, staff are doing their best but with no managerial support from what I can see, what chance have they... But I expect I'll be back at some point when they have sit in dining back... At least I can have a beer while my food takes the long way around...

First experience and definitely the last. Will not be trying their table service service.

Had a takeaway, which we pre ordered. Currently only serving take away food due to covid restrictions. Always lovely friendly staff. Ordered selection of starters, chicken green Thai curry & beef masaman curry all of which was delicious. Been going here for years and always consistently good.

We had a take out from here last night and it was lovely. We love Thai food and this restaurant did not disappoint! They have brought out a new menu and I look forward to trying some of the new dishes on it.

We ordered our food last night to takeaway which consisted of brandy sauce ribs, beef massaman rice and chips plus a pad thai.On the way home the lovely people at spice garden rang my phone to say we’d forgotten the pad Thai. After apologising they said we will nip to your house and drop it off which they did! Food was amazing and service top notch! Good food and good people

Amazing Thai food - would highly recommend!

I’ve had several meals in here in the past. They’ve always been very good and the staff are lovely people. Recently had a takeaway (during lockdown) and it wasn’t good. The starters were very dry and the chicken satay was tough. The mains were underwhelming. I’m sorry as they’ve always been great when I’ve eaten in the restaurant but this was very disappointing and not cheap either :(

My Husband, family and I have been visiting Spice Garden and getting takeaways from here for many years and it’s safe to say we are always delighted with the food provided. The curries in particular are phenomenal and we are yet to find another Thai (in any country) that lives up to the standards we find at Spice Garden. The service is always attentive and although the takeaways can take time, it’s only because the food is always restaurant quality (at a fraction of the price!). The mid week menu offer when dining in is also particularly great value. Thank you Spice Garden for always delivering exceptional food! We will continue to visit and support independent businesses like yourselves, and when your curries taste that good...it’s hard to stay away!

I moved to Ramsbottom last year and as I love Thai food, I thought we'd give this a go! They have a weekday deal menu, where they have a bean green curry on there, or a red beef green curry (not sure if its still the same now) so I asked them if it would be possible for me to have a beef green curry within the deal option (as both ingredients were included in the deal!) in which they said no which I found a real shame - as most Thai restaurants I have been to wouldn't of found this a problem. I ended up paying well over £20 in the end for food that wasn't nice at all, the beef was fatty and the sauce was thick and bland. My partner didn't particularly enjoy his either. We won't be returning!

Small restaurant in the heart of Ramsbottom, with very polite and friendly staff. We really enjoyed our meals, in fact the food was excellent. We will definitely be returning.

We've been here before, but not for a while. Oh dear - overall was very poor. The pad thai was greasy, bland and overly sweet, with the chicken very overcooked and dry. Prawns in the other pad thai were delicious however. The ribs were so dry and overcooked we threw them away. Satay chicken was nice, but again very dry. Prawn toast and spring rolls were also bland and greasy. Only saving grave was the soup - we had coconut vegetable soup and prawn tom yum. Thank goodness we ordered mild though - so spicy!! Such a shame, probably wouldn't go back.

Delicious food, always the same high standard

We visited the Spice Garden as a family on a Friday evening and sat down starts. We felt like we were in a take away cue as the door to the restaurant was opened and ‘never’ closed all evening, while people came in to collect take away bags. We had to get up several times to close the door as it was a cold evening and it never seemed to both any of the staff. The cue for take away way directly next to our table and at a price over £110 for 4 people 2 adults 2 kids, this is totally unacceptable. The food wasn’t much better either. Every starter was fried and the flavours in mains were not subtle enough for my liking. Not somewhere I would recommend to anyone.

Delicious food. We usually get takeaway, never had bad meal. My favourite is massaman curry. Yummy food.

Upon walking in we received a Thai welcome & were impressed by the Thai decor.

can get a bit cramped on an evening but great place for lunch/dinner out. Great menu with wide selection and they are happy to make a curry vegetarian or with a different meat if you ask.

Mediocre. I'm a bit baffled by all the reviews saying how great it is. I've had many many Thai meals in the UK and Thailand and this was well down the list. Charging Manchester prices in a little town doesn't add up for me, but I could live with that if the food was amazing - it wasn't. Not terrible but not great either, and overpriced.

Venue is small so definitely would book to make sure you get a table. Food was so good. Reasonable price too. Had the Thai fishcakes and fish curry. Curry was spicy but very tasty. Will definitely be back. X

Both lovers of Thai food, my other half suggested here. I’d eaten at Spice garden a few years earlier with friends and was dissatisfied so never returned. On this occasion and having read positive reviews I was hoping for better....nope, still average I’m afraid.

Their Thai Green Curry is the tastiest curry I have ever tasted, it’s absolutely unreal!! The service is friendly, and staff are accommodating of dietary requests. Spice Garden is best Thai I’ve been to within the Manchester area, it’s fantastic.

Excellent food ... When it finally came. 45 mins for the starter and then nearly an hour and a half for the main, and that was only said we were leaving of it didn't come now. Could be an absolute gem, but they really need to sort out the service.

The food is not at all bad, but too much reliance on the deep fryer..a lot of the dishes that we chose tasted just like each other..too many chillis and very hot !

In a charming location right on the town square, in very pretty buildings, this place is small and compact, with cosy eating areas. Excellent food, too, well served, and very reasonably priced for this location.

My wife & I were advised to visit the Spice Garden by local people we met in a pub.We booked a table for 8pm on a Saturday evening.Restaurant was not overly busy when we arrived.Ordered some Thai crackers which we had to wait for 20 minutes to arrive.Ordered a mixed starter for two which for the price & amount served was not worth the money.Also ordered Pad Thai for two & rice & Thai curry.Had to wait 40 minutes more to be served when people that arrived after us were served before us.The food looked nice but the flavours & spices were rather bland.I have had alot better from simple takeaways.The £60 for our meal including drinks was not worth it.Average food & slack service.Would not recommend ⭐⭐

Nice little reasturant with very pleasant staff however for Thai food there was none of the burst through flavours i would expect .the brandy ribs sounded great but there was no hint of brandy .my roast duck dish was ok if again a little boring .nice house wine .it may be just what i ordered

Decent food, exactly what you get in almost every other Thai restaurant, which to be fair is what we went there for. Beer only served in teeny tiny bottles.

Had a rare night without the kids, so headed into Ramsbottom for a meal.

What a nice restaurant, one of those gems that locals know about but isn't impressive from the outside. Lovely welcoming staff, a nice range of drinks and super food. For starters it was Spice Garden Platters all around which offers a lovely range of nibbles, the Chicken Satay being the standout part, with the toasties a close second. Main was the Beef Red Curry which was amazing. A really good restaurant that I will gladly visit again. Additional; visited again recently and it was just as good the second time. Had the Beef Masman this time and again it was lovely.

I went this evening with a friend. It’s only a small place, but the staff are very friendly and attentive.

Little disappointed, used to go here a few years ago and it was great but yesterday the satay starter was slightly sour tasting so I left it and the pad Thai was a little flavourless and served pretty cold. The noodles were more like thin ribbon noodles too not the usual pad Thai.

Struggled to find a table anywhere in Ramsbottom the Saturday night we went - which is increasingly the case as the town seems to be an increasingly popular destination. The Spice Garden has always managed to fit us in - good table, great service and good authenically cooked food. Really well presented too. Best not to dine too late at 10:00 seems to be the cut-off time when the restaurant is getting ready to call it a night.
