Great venue for eating outdoors in summer. Also plenty of room indoors for winter. Good food and service. A couple of fish mains for non meat eaters. Also a good selection of starters .

Wow if ever a place has gone downhill this is it the portions such as the crispy beef and haloumi fries ect ar now half the size they used to be I got the Sirloin Steak OH DEAR what a disappointment a warm overcooked steak half a tomato a small mushroom and some iceberg lettuce and a tiny jug of pepper sauce with chips the steak was tasteless. I complained to the waiter who didn't seem bothered at all wasn't offered a refund couldn't be bothered to push the matter even though at £31.95 shockingly overpriced. This used to be my favourite pub but sadly won't be back. The beer alarmingly overpriced £7.30 yes £7.30 for a pint of Leffe WOW

Very nice pub in the Brunning & Price group. Dog friendly but no doggie food menu offered yet. This would be an improvement if management reading this review. Staff very attentive and love to say hello to your 4 legged pal and make a fuss of them. Menu a bit more upmarket than standard pub grub. Booking a table online is easy but look out for the dog friendly tables if that’s what you need.

Service was good, but definitely had better roast dinner elsewhere. The potatoes were very hard and dry in the middle and the Yorkshire pudding was really thick on the bottom. Meat and vegetables were fine, but for £22 each, I expected better.

I ordered the cheese and onion pie, so when it came it was just 1 triangle piece of pie with 2 carrots and a sauce?????? Is this normal as when you order fish and chips you get the chips in the price, why wouldn't you not get chips in this case, for +£17 I don't think a piece of pie (not very big) and 2 carrots is acceptable and worth the price.

Lovely Sunday lunch at The Sparrowhawk. Very busy day, but service was excellent and prices reasonable.

What a lovely place to spend some time…the food is far too good for the price, the drinks are the best around (something for everyone!) and the staff make you feel welcome every single time. Special mention for Shirls…always looks after me, always on point with service.

Delicious food and service is brilliant

After a walk on the beach at Formby, we enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Sparrowhawk and dogs are made very welcome. Highly recommended.

We went for Sunday lunch. The roast beef couldn't be cut with an ordinary knife so asked for a steak knife which wouldn't cut it either. Told the waiter who said he'd mention it to the chef but no replacement offered. One of us had the steak and ale pie which didn't have much steak in at all. This place used to be good, but we won't be going back again.

Great lunch we really enjoyed it so much so we had a chat with Matthew about a future booking he was extremely helpful . We will be returning.

Refined traditional English fare in a lovely old dowager house in expansive grounds. I'd love their concept of half sized portions of desert served with coffee to be taken up widely.

Wonderful Christmas dinner on Christmas Day. Fabulous staff a perfect experience

Lovely food and friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Service could have been quicker. Even given how busy it was we were waiting for over an hour. It was annoying to see people who arrived before us finishing up before we got our mains. But not so much that we won't give it another go soon.

From the moment we stepped into your restuarant the experience was amazing. Food outstanding, service was great and it is a lovely place to visit. All staff excellent. It is not the cheapest place but i certainly dont mind paying a higher price when the food is outstanding.

Four ladies who lunch enjoyed an exceptional meal to mark our Christmas outing. The Sparrowhawk Restaurant has become our "go to" establishment. Thanks to everyone who made it so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

I have been eating at the Sparrowhawk for many years .On Tuesday i went with a friend . We both had the quiche dish as its always delicious and made on the premises .Without a doubt , the portion has decreased in size, and at £14.25 for a small slice of quiche with a scrap of salad . To add insult to injury they have once again increased the price of a glass of wine. Its now £11.50 !!! . Having had a coffee each , our bill was £60 .00...Very disappointed .

Excelente fish pie, pleasant serving staff, excellent value for money. I'm pleased to see they have updated a little. Especially the crockery, which in the past I have been a critic.

Have been a couple of times recently and the food and service have been excellent. Staff are friendly and attentive, but not "in your face". I would definitely recommend the Fish Pie. The menu choices make a nice change from the usual pub menus elsewhere. You can tell they've made an effort with the food.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here with friends. Very welcoming, attentive, friendly and polite staff. Food was lovely. Well cooked and presented. An inviting, cosy, relaxed and friendly atmosphere to unwind. Very welcoming to dogs the staff took an interest in petting them. Lots of dogs here when we attended, so good for business no doubt. We discovered that they have a Saturday morning dog walking & coffee event which we will be attending in the future.

First visit today , hadn't booked but luckily got a table for 4. Everything was perfect ! Despite being very busy all staff we encountered were extremely friendly and efficient. Food was excellent too and good beers , we will definitely return on our next walk on Ainsdale, dog friendly too. Will book next time to save disappointment. Keep doing what you are doing Sparrowhawk ....wonderful !

Great food and attentive service.

Country house atmosphere and very welcoming. The menu is very inviting as you go down the list, and each dish is very well described. Beautifully presented dishes that were delicious. Love the idea of a small pudding and a hot drink when a large helping would be too much. The cheese board looked delicious and included fruit cake. We shall be back soon to try a few more dishes.

A lovely pub! I have visited quite a few times for lunch and it never disappoints. The staff are attentive and kind, will definitely be returning.

Booked table for 5 pm, loved the facility to change the time online. Seated straight away, service was brilliant and even brought water and treats for my dog Food very tasty good portion size. 3 courses each(skipped lunch). Will definitely be going back. Thank you, team.

Had a really good Sunday lunch here, the beef was good quality, vegetables, and Yorkshire pudding delicious. Roast potatoes not the best.. For pudding had a mini Stp with flat white, which topped off the meal nicely. Highly recommended coming here, always a good meal. Book in advance to guarantee a table.

I always have the soup and it's usually lovely but this week the pea and ham wasn't. The fried bacon was chewy and I had to take a knife to it to cut it up. Perhaps next time proper ham would be a better addition.

Disappointed, cold plates , cold food, order was wrong twice after having it checked, had food im intolerant to brought out, waited ages for food, mine came out after everyone else finished, got food vouchers but I won't be using them as won't come back, shame

Just had lunch, and it was really good. Staff were very nice and helpful (even if one was a Liverpool supporter), and the place seemed so fresh and airy.

As frequent visitor and returning customers out last visit was very disappointing. The service was not good. We always like to start with a cafetière of coffee for 2 but was told by the waitress that it wasn't available. So we ordered other hot drinks. Whilst eating our food we over heard the table next to us ordering a cafetière of coffee and then not long afterwards it was served to them. Which then prompted me to question our waitress who had told us we couldn't have a cafetière of coffee. Her reply was on us ordering a cafetière there was none washed. I was shocked by her reply as I found this unbelievable as she could have simply said on us ordering if you give me a moment as there is no cafetière"s available as they haven't been washed I will do that for you now. But no she didn't which I thought was very lazy and she couldn't be bothered. Not good. So therefore we are not sure if we will be returning again as it is a shame as the food is very good but does not marry up with the service.

Gluten Free quiche, pies and dessert it's one of the few places my choice isn't limited. Food is excellent and staff are amazing, efficient, friendly and helpful. I dine here regularly and I've never been disappointed. You even get a gluten free flapjack with your coffee and if you have the ice cream the shortbread is gluten free. Jug of cold water offered on arrival always a sign of good service for me. Keep up the good work. Try the crispy beef salad with sweet chilli dressing delicious.

Gorgeous bistro food with a lovely decadent atmosphere, staff are nice and friendly and a bonus you can take your doggy in too.

The service was exemplary. Fabulous girls evening. Atmosphere dropped off at 9pm as we were the last table. Our server did not rush us and made coffee several times. The food was delicious.

Anywhere dogs are allowed inside is good for me. Amazing staff making a fuss of all the dogs. Nice drinks selection too..

My daughter recommended The Sparrowhawk as somewhere new for us to eat at and it was a great suggestion. My daughter had the pork and beef roast dinner, which looked amazing and came with all of the trimmings. I went for the burger and fries, which was great and really tasty and filling. Make sure you leave room for dessert though. I had the sticky toffee pudding and my daughter had the brownie. Both were generous portions. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back in the future.

It was very busy here even though a Tuesday night , however the service was still very friendly and very efficient. I had a great pint of hoppy beer (white rat) , caponata bruschetta and a cheese onion potato pie. They've upped the prices here since I last visited, but also the quality the food has become more high end Happy to report dog friendly plus plenty of vegetarian and vegan options!
