Great sports bar. Stopped for a coffee while on a walk around Hockley, my first time seeing inside this historic landmark. Friendly staff, unusual layout inside. Large bar and lots of TV screens for your football. Pool table and possibly an area where you could have a private function.

Proper pub. No food, just beer and sport. Happy hour from 5-7 What’s not to like.

My local, a home from home, many generations of Hockley people plus lots of great people that have moved in to the area. The Hockley pub to goto for live sports.

Visited yesterday for the first time in a few years. It looks like it has been recently refurbished which looks lovely. Much nicer and cleaner in there now, was a bit rough before with a few undesirables proping up the bar moaning about the world, but it seems they no longer drink in there. Had 2 lovely pints of Guinness and a oddly a packet of chorizo flavoured crisps. Now the best pub in hockley.

Fantastic food and staff are amazing, especially Fergus. Great range of drinks, very clean. We will be returning.

Reasonably priced rancid beverages great cure for constipation.Fantastic place to go if you've clearly had enough to drink and are quite inebriated you will get served all night long no matter how much you've consumed.

Great selection of drinks and bar snacks, friendly, attentive staff and great deals on shots and cocktails. Happy hour from 5-8pm Monday to Friday is a winner too.

Cor. Me and my ol' Dutch arrived here at the spa just wrapped in a couple of towels thinking we was going to have a steam and a massage. Turns out it's a pub! As we walked in, some bloke at the bar pulled my towel off, wound it round in the air then flicked it right across the cheeks of my Aris! It didn't half hurt, let me tell you, and it left a bright red weal that looked just like the Nike swoosh. "Two large G and T's, please, barkeep," I said, "and which way to the sauna?"

Couldn't get friendlier and more polite staff, I feel like this pub maybe gets a bit of unnecessary stick at times just for being a bit of a younger and more of a working mans pub. However, I can honestly say I've never had a bad time in the Spa and would recommend. Great staff, great service and competitive prices.

Visited of an evening to support a band we follow (The Poachers). The atmosphere was great and the hosts were very welcoming.

Visited on a Friday evening, good luck music with a dance floor area. Staff friendly and welcoming. Toilets clean and tidy. Didn't get food. Drinks were a standard price for the type of establishment.

That Spa atmosphere though - plenty of TVs for sport, wide variety of lagers & spirits, the jukebox is always a great laugh, all surrounded by a sociable atmosphere!

Great pub...a rare 'proper' pub....Great atmosphere, sports, pool, jukebox, live bands....Fergus and some staff have been here 25+ years and offer a warm welcome to locals and newbies alike. Recent refurb and new drink menu available including cocktails. A great local establishment centrally positioned in the village that should be cherished.

First time in the Spa on Saturday. Really friendly staff, great atmosphere and other customers were very welcoming. Had the football on multiple tv’s during the day then had ppv boxing on in the evening. Prices were good considering its in hockley. Had a pool table which was contactless and was in great condition. Will be going back for sure.

ve have been to this local for as long as I lived in Hockley and over the past 40 years have seen a few changes. I can honestly say that The Spa, under the current management and staffing, is the best ever. Fergus and his team run a tight ship with good, plentiful beers, wines and spirits. The layout lends itself perfectly to a night out, business beer, couples or family or any combination. The bar staff are led by his example in a friendly manner. Always chatty, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. Sports coverage - when on - is ably covered with TV’s showing different channels in different areas. COVID rules and guidelines - when applicable - are/were stringent with rules and regulations enforced in a friendly but reassuring manner. Great pub, great drink, great staff and regulars. What’s not to like! God Bless The Spa. Keep the flag flying high Fergus!

What a great traditional pub staff and customers so friendly the manager FERGUS runs a smooth ship in difficult times with COVID-19 social distancing in place constantly the staff are cleaning but never intrusive great spot will be sure to visit again

Football and beer. What else do you need

Down on my luck with the hard life I’ve had, mum died before I was born I’ve always been a loner but never found somewhere I fit it... until I found the Spa. Fergus welcomed me in with open arms and I met the love of my life, a cheeky young lady named Stella. She showed me things I never knew possible and made me feel as though I were floating on the wisp of God’s locks... pork scratchings are a bit salty though 8/10 would come again.

Exceptionally cheap drinks though that's of course a matter of opinion. Has two pool tables of course increasing the chance you will get a game. Would probably get 5 stars with the exception of the fact that online it says it closes at 1am on Saturday night but they rang the bell just before 12, was however given 15 odd mins drinking up time. Still slightly annoying if you are buying a drink at like 5 to 12. Edit: I will add this response on as to the reply by the management, give it a week or so and then adjust the review. Simply by typing The Spa Hockley brings up a page on Google which shows photos, can leave reviews etc and by scrolling down on that first page it purports to show the opening hours of the pub, where it shows Fri/Sat open till 1, which doesn't seem unbelievable as many pubs are, however as you seem unaware of this perhaps these details have been entered by someone else or are just incorrect. Anyway wasn't the end of the world and now i know. Thanks.

It has a decent collection of beers, a pool table, and it's great to put Finnish Death Metal on the jukebox to aggravate the locals. Also, now the the Bull has burned down, it's the closest pub to Hockey high street.

Known it since 70smodernised greatly now of course,4 english pounds bit expensive for 1 pint ,4 cans for that in shop,summit wrong there! Good service though.live in rochford now,half the pubs now closed!

Great .had to talk to the publican as did not now about the parking as I was leaving put car number in he said not to worry as I have been drinking there for 43 years.

Well done to Ferg and the staff at the Spa, the new carpets and coat of paint has really give the place a much needed improved look! Andy Freer will be glad to know that the toilets have also had a massive overhall too! Once again a great traditional pub and a true local for Hockley and the local area!

The loos are the best i've seen in the 33 years i have been there

I like the place very much just don't like the racist blonde lady working there very rude. It took me 20mins to get a drink until I started shouting and I caught her looking into the men's toilets. I'm aware she knows some of the locals but it made me feel uncomfortable, when I asked her she was even ruder than before. Great locals and drink/atmosphere rude racist staff.
