Tonight 5 of us went for the Tuesday 2-4-£20 deal… oh my goodness the selection was amazing. And even the odd meal that we had to choose was outstanding.between us we had ribs, pasta, vegetable lasagna, gammon all off the special set menu 24£20 then the red curry off the standard main menu … all plates cleared and each meal was so tasty, well presented and hot! Plus drinks the bill came to less than £85 for 5 of us including alcohol! The service in this little local pub was awesome and I have already booked my table for next week

We've been in the village for 8 years and the Anchor is our regular Friday night treat. Kids love it, great atmosphere, great staff over the years, good food and drink! A genuine country pub!

Have been using the Anchor more and more now as it's getting better than ever. We like the new menu especially as a number of the dishes are available in two sizes. Our group are getting-on a bit and find our appetite has declined somewhat with age. It's not so much about saving money, but it's avoiding waste. The food is delicious and beautifully cooked and the service is attentive and friendly. It's a great venue for organising parties and functions. Always well run and excellent buffet food available. Canewdon locals are fortunate having this pub nearby and should make the most of it to keep it running successfully. Top marks. 😋

Love this pub. Recently moved to Canewdon and feel very lucky to have this on my door step. Great food, great atmosphere, lovely staff - Proper village pub with good beer and the diverse menu with a good specials board add to the experience. Well worth a visit if you want a proper English pub experience with friendly staff and locals.

Had lovely meal, compliments to the chef on 12th August 2023 2pm. Service was 2nd to none, Claire looked after us very well, very friendly, cheerful and made us feel completely at ease and welcome. Will most definitely be back, can't wait to try your Sunday roast 😋 Worth a visit folks, you won't be disappointed, that's for sure!!!

Was driving around the area looking for a place to have lunch and come across this pub. Went in and was immediately made to feel welcome by the staff. Food wise there was a full restaurant menu and a snacks menu. It was a lovely sunny day so we asked if the restaurant menu could be served in the garden and the staff were more than happy to assist. The food was superb, hot, well presented, plenty of it and great value for money. We had a great afternoon lunch in a lovely quiet and well kept garden. definitely going back again very soon.

Lovely place friendly staff and food was good

Stopped here briefly whilst passing with my son. We was immediately made to feel very welcome. Seems to be a warm, family friendly pub. Food served and a decent range of draught ale's available. It was just a quick pint on the way home... Oh and a bag of pork scratching for sustenance. I'll definitely be returning with the family for an afternoon in the garden and a bite to eat. Recommended.

Great local pub. Excellent food and friendly service. They had a luncheon party of 23 people in but they still found time to serve us. I had a lively Asian duck meal. Comprehensive menu catering for all tastes.

Good food good people lovely little pub

Where do I start with this review? Given the current post-COVID situation, I felt it was better to make a call rather than, turn up on spec - I required a table for 2 x Seniors, 2 x Adults, 1 x 7 year old and just as important a four legged companion - the lady who answered the phone was incredibly friendly and helpful, she 'reserved' a table for us in the doggy part of the establishment. Upon our arrival, we were seated in a lovely nook, that gave us the space but also separation and a degree of privacy. Our dog (being an 18wk old Cockapoo, he is like a magnet for attention) was fussed by the locals and bar staff and we were made to feel like 'old regulars'. One of our party has allergies and we asked if something bespoke could be made, for his lunch, this was no problems - the staff were very accommodating. The service which we received throughout our visit was unprecedented and could not have been better - we learnt that the lady that looked after us in person and originally on the phone was called Clare - she was superb, and hopefully her efforts are widely recognised. Now about the food - the portions were good, you didn't leave wanting more, the flavours and combinations were well thought out and above all cooked fresh, to our requirements - it is hard to fault any of the experience, this was our first visit here and without a shadow of doubt would like to return to sample more of the fabulous food and hospitality.

I am staying with my son for a couple of months, so today was my first experience at the Anchor pub. I was made very welcome and felt comfortable and valued. A must visit pub!

Big potions of good grub. Big party was in and because of social distancing, spread over the whole place all yelling across the room to eachother. Management, please limit numbers of guests to table sizes. Too loud for me.

I had never been to canewdon before so by right I went to the first pub I laid eyes on . I was not disappointed gorgeous venue . It gave me Stratford apon Avon vibes . Low ceilings a gorgeous fire burning and super friendly staff . Food was delicious. Would be great for a nice casual date.

The Anchor is my local and have just started doing food again and all I can say is give your tastebuds a treat and go have a meal in the newly named restaurant The Galley. The food is just so delicious.

Popped in for a drink and stayed for lunch, food aroma was hard to resist, lovely menu good choice, we decided on a fish pie, which was full of fish and prawns, lovely sauce and creamy mash, and fish and chips had a really light batter, lovely staff Kay and Rowena who served us
