The Smokey Cow in Shropshire

We booked a table for our anniversary on a Saturday night. We were told after making our choices that they had no ribs, and that was our choice! A smokehouse with no ribs 🤦‍♂️ I panic ordered the brisket instead, which was OK but nothing more. The fries were cold and Mac and Cheese side flavourless. The onion rings, the SFC starter and nachos were good. The waiter was pleasant but slow and we didn’t see him again after he delivered our mains. No dessert menu or desserts were offered, or any more drinks, our plates not even collected. I would have tried to get his attention, but he just stood at the bar so no chance came. We would have ordered both so their loss! Over half an hour after finishing our mains we gave up waiting, went to the bar for a final drink and left earlier than we might have done, having spent less money too so that’s a positive. Our plates were still sitting on the table as we walked out. Overall, the meal, service and experience were very underwhelming and we’re unlikely to return.

We eat out, a lot! and I have to say, this is the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely spot on. We all ( wife and 15 year old son) had the brisket, although I had the large dinner which also included belly pork. My teenage lad can eat for england and also had the mac and cheese. Every one of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Fresh cooked, home made Yorkshire puddings, melt in the mouth smokey brisket, wonderfully cooked veggies, and no reheated potatoes! The staff were super efficient, friendly and helpful. So glad I found this, and although we live over an hour away, we will most definitely be going back. Superb!

Very poor expensive for what it is pub was empty on a Saturday night .. ordered salad and got lettuce chicken and small bits of bacon for £13.50 didn't get asked if the meal was OK either

As a family we made an impromptu decision to go out for dinner to celebrate my daughter's exam results. We live fairly local and this was only our 2nd visit since the PH reopened (approx 4yrs ago) having had a pretty poor experience with friends when the place first opened. Not wanting to prejudge we thought we would give it another try. However, the décor is more like a café than a country pub, there was no atmosphere other than the music bouncing off the hard surfaces as there are no soft furnishings to absorb the noise. This made it difficult to have a conversion. The wooden seats had no padding or cushions and are uncomfortable and were reminiscent of school canteen chairs. They had no bottles of bubbly of any kind which I could buy, which was a shame as we were there to celebrate. The 2x waiting/bar staff were friendly and accommodating, however the kitchen was extremely slow and it took over 45minutes to send out 3 x Shropshire Blue and mushroom melt (you also needed a magnifying glass to find the tiny specks of mushroom) & 1 x SFC strips starters. It was difficult to see why it took so long as it was 6:30pm and there was only one couple and a child who were already eating other than our table of 5. There was then another unreasonably long wait for the Mains to arrive. By this time the person who did not order a starter (as he didn't fancy any of the 4 starters on the menu) was very hungry. The food was ok (apart from the lack of mushrooms in the mushroom melt) but the mash with the pork belly was not wholegrain mustard mash as advertised, I'm also not convinced that the toasted garlic ciabatta contained any garlic. On the whole it's probably an alright PH to have a drink but as somewhere to eat, would we go again? No. Overall, it was a fairly poor, unsatisfactory, disappointing, poor value for money experience :(

Popped in for lunch with a mate, both of us ended up ordering the beef brisket which was absolutely perfect. Looking forward to visiting again. Only negative was one of the starters was rather small considering the price. Overall value seemed quite reasonable though. Well done to the staff members and especially the chef, top job!

The Smokey Cow never disappoints. Lovely setting that is well designed - giving diners space for comfort rather than cramming tables in. Staff are absolutely delightful, excellent service and very friendly. Food is consistently excellent. Smoked meat that rivals any you will get in Texas (the husband has been - so he knows). Also good value for money - come hungry or there is little chance of you clearing the plate.. And the lovely play area is a nice bonus if you have kiddies!

Im a local person from beckbury . I thought I would have walk to the smokey cow yesterday18 July 2024 after I finished work . I arrived and walked in there was only two people having a drink . The barmaid was very polite and curtesy . This is a nice pub for the local community and visitors . Only thing is the beers are pricey and food are pricey . It's a shame I think that its putting people off the place due to the price . Don't get me wrong the food is nice pub food and when there's entrainment on .

Myself and my partner visited the Smokey Cow on the 9th of July on arrival we were told a lot of the menu wasn’t available due to a really busy weekend they’d had This was a little disappointing but we understood The food was very good and I was not disappointed Lovely atmosphere it wasn’t too busy on the Sunday evening which was good along with lovely, friendly staff We will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend

Very disappointed. Mothers day meal . Booked table wasn't ready. Waited 1/2 an hour. Sat down ordered our food 1/2 later . We were told some items we had ordered weren't available. We were waiting an hour. We were offered free drinks. We have a toddler with us who is hungry and asked if they could sort the child a meal were given chips waiting again for some fish to go with it. We were told manager wasn't there apologised for the wait. Bar staff and waitresses were doing there best but could see they were stressed and upset.. The place was full and no manager to complain to. If it hadn't been for the staff,stepping up I think ppl would of left. They were going and helping in the kitchen. The staff that helped out did there best and we really felt for them to.

Absolutely appalling, booked table for 6.15 , pre ordered our meals the day before . Waited for a hour an half to be told they have ran out of chicken and other items , they gave us a free round of drinks to say sorry food is coming , to be told there is other stuff they ain’t got , this is now 7.55 an then they bring 2 meals out an still waiting for the rest, I did feel sorry for the waitresses as this wasn’t there fault an I did tell them that . But I have my partner an her mother really upset as they were looking forward to this, how can you pre order your food the day before an then hour an half to being there they tell you they ran out, never seen anything like it to be honest , not planned ahead for a really busy day like Mother’s Day

Lovely restaurant, staff were pleasant and helpful. Food was really tasty, made the mistake of having nachos before main course, both were lovely.....huge portions, just couldn't eat it all! Will definitely be back

Arrived here Sunday afternoon after a pleasant walk in the surrounding countryside. There were several tables free, but we were told that because we only wanted drinks we would have to sit outside. The ladies toilet was disgusting, very dirty hand-wash area and the bin was overflowing with used paper towels. After having our drinks sat outside in the February rain, the inside tables were still free so we would not have held up any food service or dining trade. Bar service was incredibly slow and staff were unfriendly.

This pub needs a good clean inside especially the toilets & outside the seating area. A load of cigarette butts tipped in the wooden planters. Such a shame for a lovely village.

We visited on a weekday in the evening. There was 11 of us in total a mixture of children and adults reason for visit was to celebrate a birthday. We pre ordered food ahead of the visit. On arrival The staff were really welcoming and we were seated straight away. Our food was served timely, they were good sized portions and were delicious. The service was really excellent, we had a wonderful evening. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be returning .

Went to visit the Smokey Cow after hearing great things but we were utterly disappointed with the food. We had a pink gin each with Lemonade. That was nice with the berries. The food however was another story. The other half had chicken wings which looked appetising however there was so much salt on them, they were inedidible! I myself had garlic mushrooms and I think I counted 8 mushrooms (4 button mushrooms chopped in half) and wouldn't have filled my 5 yr old child up, let alone me! To sumerise, over priced, over rated, bad food. Won't be visiting again!

First time visiting, walked in and no one to be seen other then chef Stuart who said sit where ever you would like and I will grab you a menu. He was very helpful. We then managed to get drinks 10 minutes later and order some food, which I will say was absolutely amazing 15/10. Burgers was amazing!!! Mac/cheese was very delicious. Will definitely visit again. Bar staff needed to be around to meet and greet and take your drinks order after sitting down. Chef was amazing!!

Great food, good variety on the menu. Service was faultless. Thank you. 13 family members visited, many different dishes ordered and empty plates all round. Lovely small country pub, be careful roads to it are dark & single track but defo worth a visit. Highly recommend, In fact already booked to visit over Christmas.

Clean , well presented restaurant. Menu is varied and very tempting it was hard to decide 😂😂. Eventually decisions were made, the food was ordered . The waitress was amazing , telling us about other places to try within their chain. She was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable . The food arrived , omg we were stunned, the presentation was fabulous and the taste was out of this world, When I first saw the menu I thought Hickory’s … how wrong was I? This place is way better.

I’ve been to the Smokey cow a few times and every time they exceed expectations, with amazing service and great food the Smokey cow is definitely a favourite of mine, especially for Sunday dinner. The pub manager is always in high spirit and shows great customer service which is always good to see, I feel as a customer I can feel that they are a close knit team. I couldn’t fault the Smokey cow and will definitely be visiting again!

Had not got Shiraz wine I asked for and then ordered to be told they did not have the pies we wanted we were not told that anything on the menu was not on at the beginning so then we had to decide again then when I chose was charged £4.00 for peas if my original dish was available that came with veg I would not have needed to order veg I think this should be taken into account not that impressed just alright food
