The Silver Plate Restaurant in Sheffield

Don’t be put off by this being a College restaurant - the kids serving are brilliant and well supervised. The evening specials are brilliant and difficult to get spaces for. Food is really good, well presented and not at all expensive.

We have been for lunch here quite a few times with our group of retirees and always we have been impressed with the service and the food. One member has a dairy allergy and they cope with this without any problem.

The Silver Plate located inside Sheffield College. This restaurant gives students the opportunity to perfect their expertise in serving and providing locally sourced food. From the minute you walk into this place you can tell it was first class. The two course lunch menu was priced at £12 and for a three course £15. I couldn’t believe what good value it was for the money. Our server was called Matthew, he was really friendly and provided us with quick service. All the tutors are watching the waiters/waitresses, which must be a daunting experience for them. We started as we meant to go on and I had a double gin topped up with tonic and garnished with ice and lemon. I chose to select the two course menu but I knew I’d soon change my mind. I went for the quail and mushroom scotch egg. The starter was quick in arriving, the chefs had clearly got the flavour correct making it such a sublime starter, the portion size was well thought through and it worked. For my second course I went for the Chinese glazed pork belly braised rice and bok choy this was such a lovely main course that I thoroughly enjoyed and it was presented beautifully. For dessert I went for the golden syrup sponge pudding, sauce anglaise. It was a lovely dessert which I was impressed by and I managed to finish every mouthful. All staff were so accommodating, I loved our time at The Silver Plate and I can’t wait to return for another three course menu of luxury.

Returned to The Silver Plate after a long gap for a Covid-relaxation lunch with friends. So glad we did. This is the training base for young people heading into the hospitality industry — the people who could make your next meal out special. Everything was well organised to combat Covid. The food was exceptional and the service attentive, professional and friendly. Memorable for all the best reasons. And all for a phenomenal £13 a head (plus drinks).

Good menu with variety. Enjoyed all our choices but the curry proved to be 'under spicy' for our taste. Especial praise for the Home smoked Salmon dish and the Baked Alaska - would definitely choose them again. Looking forward to our next visit. Sophie was excellent in attention and serving at the table.

Had lunch here last Thursday with my sister. We were shown to our table and then introduced to Kira who was to be our waitress. She took our coats, placed the napkins on our laps, poured us some water, and then took our order. Throughout she was polite, very professional, and attentive without being over bearing. I asked if I could charge my phone as there was a socket next to me and she went to check that this would be ok. It was. We asked her a few questions during our visit and she answered confidently.
