SHEER DISAPPOINTMENT. Avoid this place its a shambles. Firstly we were told it was pay on arrival, yet in the days before our stay we were hounded for payment otherwise our booking would have been cancelled!!! Hold on it gets worse. The welcome was non existent and the room was disgracefull, we paid for king size but had a double with a tiny tv,the decor was a mess and the furniture was a state (way over used) hairs on window sills, dust everywhere, out of date biscuits in the convenience pack, rotting window frames which had left lots of paint flakes on the seating below. Breakfast was a mistake, the pastries were rock hard, the full english was way overcooked and the eggs were just bland the toast came out around 40 mins before the breakfast, the coffee was horrid and instant despite having a proper coffee machine behind the desk they call a bar. I paid for a top spec room and was given the dirty leftovers, i would not recommend anyone waste their money here, you would be more comfortable in a travelodge. The view from the room was beautiful but thats my only positive feedback and with all due respect, i can see the view for free. In summary the hotel has been filled with cheap tacky mirrored furniture and they call it premium, sorry its just not and to clarify my point, i wiped my feet on the way out. Also your cleaning staff are useless and most definately require guidance on the standard you are trying to achieve because right now they are failing. I doubt this is an isolated incident as we went with friends and their room was just as filthy. My receipt states superking with super en suite but a double bed and washroom smaller than most wardrobes is anything but super.

We stayed 5 nights at the Ship Leopard while visiting Portsmouth. We loved the hotel and will come back next time we are in Portsmouth. The hotel is very well located as it is close to the Dockyards and to a variety of restaurants and shops. Our room overlooked the harbour and The Warrior and it was not too noisy during the night. We loved the choice for breakfast and all staff were very helpful and friendly. We also appreciated the car park behind the hotel as parking seems complicated and pricey in Portsmouth.

Replying promptly and professionally to all of my questions and queries! The Hotel was as good as I remembered, the staff very polite and helpful, the bed very comfortable, the room clean and the breakfast plentiful and nicely cooked.

After being let down by Solent forts at short notice I contacted this little hotel. The front of desk staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. We stayed one night. Our room was tastefully decorated and above all clean. The hotel is situated in a noisy busy place, right opposite the bus exchange and ferry terminals with Southsea train station. That being said with our windows closed we didn't hear a thing and had a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel is situated well for traveling this historic city and has amazing things on its door step. The historic dockyard (a must to see) and gunwarf quay. For breakfast we didn't see a continental on offer but cereals were ready to go and our full English was very nice. Plenty of tea refills! I would stay here again in my experience.

I booked two rooms here for our stay, one of which was the deluxe suite on the first floor that has views of the historic dock yard. The room was immense and comfortable. The bathroom had a huge shower and a separate soaker tub. The footprint of the bathroom was about the same size as the double room I stayed in on the floor above! This room was quite, clean and comfortable. As for the hotel itself, it was clean and in a great location. The staff were fantastic too. The breakfast was a fairly basic continental buffet with tea and barista coffee, but was enough for us.

Very puzzled by the previous review - old and addled as we are, we found no difficulty in finding the entrance to this hotel (or in locating the lift, which is beside the bar). Once inside, we were greeted by a very welcoming Jasmine, who was both friendly and efficient (as was the fellow who served our breakfast coffee). The lift itself is protected by a security key system (on the room key fob).

My partner and I stayed at the Ship Leopard "Boutique" Hotel in January 2018 as a stop off for shopping trip in Portsmouth and Southampton. Upon arrival we were slightly confused as the outside said "Ship Leopard Cafe". We didn't really know which entrance to use as we thought we were going into a cafe not a hotel. Anyway, once inside we were greeted by a very friendly female member of staff who, to be fair was very pleasant and welcoming. Once we got our key it was confusing how we got to our room as the lift is in the same room as the cafe and restaurant and reception area which is odd in our opinion and no clear signs. In our room it looked very clean but dated and furniture was broken in places and it wasn't very well presented, more like a roadside motel then luxury boutique. We wouldn't say the room was very modern it was just run down and dated and cheap looking. However it wouldn't be fair to just give negatives and there were some good positives. The staff are very friendly and on hand for any issues with a pleasant attitude which is nice to see in a world full of bad attitudes and poor customer service. Can't fault customer service. View from our room was not bad either, got a lovely view of the boats and historic ships which was nice to wake up to. The bed was comfy and we both slept well. The washing facilities were basic but did the job. Overall an average stay at we weren't blown away. The decor of the hotel is very confused, we are not sure what it is trying to be. Is it a hotel? Is it a cafe? Or is it a restaurant? It certainly isn't boutique and you do not feel like exclusive guests. 3/5.

Situated opposite the bus station, rail station and harbour with views across the bay make this an ideal location to stay. The historic dockyard is about 400 yards away and Gunquay Wharf a little further with its many retail outlets, bars and restaurants, cinema and casino. The city centre is a 15 minute walk away. As for the hotel itself all was good apart from the cleanliness of the bathroom which was below par. A few minutes to walk to the Historic Docks, the same in the other direction for Gunwharf Quay, and right by the waterfront, ferries, etc. We thought it might be noisy on a Sat night but all was quiet by 10pm. Parking voucher from the hotel for a nearby parking station takes you to 12md following day. We had a lovely room at the front overlooking the water and the Waterloo (1860). Staff were helpful and friendly, and we left our bags with them for short period. All you need in the room with water views and afternoon sun streaming in. Very nice! Breakfast was fine - very basic continental or a cooked breakfast. We'd love to return to Portsmouth. The Naval Dockyards are outstanding and could spend days here. This is a great find, an old hotel that has been fixed up to modern standards without losing its appeal. It is not large, with a limited number of rooms, but the one we stayed in (#34) was wonderful; good size, modern decor, comfortable bed and pillows, and a modern washroom (shower only though). From the 3rd floor our room had two windows looking out onto the water, with a good view of HMS Victory. We also were very pleased with its proximity to Gunwharf Quays, a large shopping and restaurant complex that is located on the water. This new complex is fantastic; you basically cross the street and you are there. You can walk for quite a distance along the harbour from the access in Gunwharf. So, the hotel is great, the location is great, and to top it all off the hotel provides a complimentary breakfast of hot and cold foods. We'd return in a flash!

The hotel is very convenient for the Historic Dockyard, Gunwharf Quays, the Spinnaker Tower and Old Portsmouth. There is a multi story car park next to the hotel and with a voucher from the hotel you get a discounted rate of £5 per day. Is isn't necessary to get the voucher before you check in so park first. The room was very nice and the bed comfortable. Like many hotels the bathroom didn't have any place to put your toiletries but apart from that there was a lovely shower with conventional and rainfall showers. The breakfast was OK but again like many hotels, very limited fresh fruit. Cooked breakfasts were good. The staff were nice and the service good.Definitely a place to stay if you plan to stay in this part of Portsmouth.

I stayed in room 15 overlooking the sea. The room is superb and a bathroom of splendour. The breakfast was excellent and I could not fault this hotel in any way. If I stay in Portsmouth again I will stay here, make sure you stay in room 15. Wi fi was vary fast too.

I would like to give it 5 star as the menu looked really good!! When we ordered our meal both our starters were fine, but then my wife was told that they never had the meal she asked for and had to choose something else, so for that I have knocked 1 star off. Then 10 mins later my husband was told his meal was not available, another star knocked off. It was cold in there, another star knocked off. Although the staff were ok, there was just no atmosphere in there at all last star knocked off. Will not be returning..Garry.Shipp

Fresh new place on the Hard. We tried the cooked breakfast, and were pleasantly surprised. The remainder of the menu looked good enough to return, not over-complicated or long. Handy for when the Feed Cafe is full (which is usual), and comparable pricewise for breakfast at least... with more confortable seating. Convenient if you are travelling by bus or train to Gunwharf Quays.

We made an initial visit to this cafe/restaurant for hot drinks on a crisp January day and enjoyed the comfortable ambience together with friendly and efficient care provided by the staff. Although we did not eat on this occasion, there is a varied menu at fair prices and clearly another visit is required. With late afternoon sun streaming through the windows, the experience could not be faulted.

Usually pretty good atmosphere, cocktails are pretty good (if not a little sweet and sickly) the 3 stars is because they currently have no draft beer, and I resent paying £5+ for a bottle. Also Asahi
