This place was outstanding, friendly service, great atmosphere, really lovely looking pub. And the food, wow. The best Parmo in the north east. Must visit and well worth the drive from Sunderland. Already booked again

Visited today to try out the supposedly amazing parmos . The selection is fantastic I decided to try the made in China parmo as did my son . Which was salt and pepper chicken with onions and peppers on top of an original parmo . I did ask for no peppers on mine but they were still on and the salt and pepper was completely missing as it had no flavour at all which was disappointing. My wife had a chicken dinner which she said was very nice . Overall I feel the place was maybe a bit understaffed as all of the servers were like headless chickens I did raise my concerns with a member of staff who unfortunately didn't seem interested in what I said

Unfortunately having to remove my previous 5* review after our horrendous visit tonight. Called to book table at 2 pm no issues. Arrived for our booking to be told no booking. Waitress was rude about it and said “i will go and get manager” in the 2 seconds she stomped away a lovey gentleman asked if it was a table for 2 and sat us down. Food and first drinks came in a reasonable time and that’s where the evening goes south. Waited 20 minutes for someone to come over to clear plates. Asked for a box to take away the meat left overs for the dogs. Box was then passed over another table (with guests sat on it) to us. Another 30+ minutes later we had to ask for our plates to be cleared from the table. It wasn’t busy and other guests were also having to leave tables to ask for service. There was no offer of extra drinks or desserts. A further 20 minutes passed and we asked a passing waiter for dessert menu and drinks. He obliged no problems, we ended up just ordering desserts as time was getting on and we had been there over 2 hours at this point. We had only just started desserts when rude original waitress slammed the bill on the table before saying there’s a 10% optional service charge. We asked for it to be taken off our bill as we really were not impressed with the service and how we had been treated. She said no. And if we wanted it removing we have to say so at bar when we paid. We replied you obviously want us to leave but we’re in the middle of desserts and that was not the time to slam bill on table. When we opened bill it was not ours. I took bill to her and asked for our bill. She ignored me 5 times to the point other staff and guests started looking at her. At that point the manager swooped in as sorted everything. But it was humiliating for myself and the manager for the situation to happen. This girl need to remember that guest are what keeps a buisness alive and we didn’t ask for anything but to be treated as such.

Visited today for a belated birthday lunch but it wasn't worth the wait or the money. Ordered a steak pie which wasn't really a pie a bit of meat in a skillet with a pastry lid on top. The mashed potato looked and tasted like it was le ft t over from Sunday lunch then reheated in a microwave. Felt like rubber. For £20.00 I expectedore and a better standard.

The service was rubbish,waited 45mins to be seated at a table that was empty when we came in . The food was ok nothing special the skin on chips over cooked and like rubber.waited 20 mins to pay the bill at the bar.the whole experience was poor would not return.i can cook better at home might have a large parmo menu but they need to improve the quality.

Best parmos in teesside! Such a huge choice to choose from. Went this evening for a meal for a friends birthday. Great service, great food and company. 2nd time I've been here now and we travel from Newcastle/sunderland

It was my first visit to The Ship so I thought I would try the Classic Parmo Platter. It was delicious, but I couldn’t finish it, I probably shouldn’t have ordered a starter but I was able to take it home. It’s a nice surrounding with a friendly atmosphere and attentive staff.

Food was really nice, had the ultra parmo platter. Unfortunately I had a hair in one of them. I was fortunate it was the last parmo and not the first. It's a shame because each one was delicious. The staff were apologetic and knocked off my drink from the bill. I will go back and try this again, I feel it was an unfortunate accident. The other meals on the table were very nice 👌

Me and my fiancée visited here on 8/3/25 and the service was absolutely shocking. It took staff forever to come over and take our drinks order and when I asked politely for a drink, the staff member said ‘I was busy filling up the cutlery’. Then when seeking out another drink staff were nowhere to be found, so we approached the bar and were told to sit down and staff would come and take our order at the table. The attitude of the staff is absolutely terrible as they appeared snappy when I approached the bar. Then when we got the bill, they brought it out at the same time as the card machine so I didn’t see the ‘optional’ 10 percent SC charge. Which I would NOT of paid if I had the choice. I will NOT be returning. It is an absolute SHAME as the food is great but the staff ruin it.

A very disappointing visit this evening Party of 4 and a baby (2 people with food allergies) Asked to see allergen information for the kids menu to get a reply ‘the chef is not sure if it contains egg’ Staff didn’t seem to care Not acceptable at all considering the child is 1 year old and has a egg allergy Very disappointed as we had travelled far and heard great things.

Food was absolutely lovely, service was lacking. Went for dinner for my birthday just the 2 of us, couple other parties for birthdays were there too. Had a table booked for 6:30, only had mains and a drink each, left at 8:15pm after requesting bill otherwise feel we would have been waiting a lot longer. Food not checked on until finished, so no additional drinks offered. It felt like they didn’t have enough staff on or they couldn’t be bothered.

Massive selection of parmos, I went for the Messi moo, parmo with steak and chimichuri on top, loved it. Will definitely be back.

Never thought I’d be recommending to others the rather odd northern tradition of a Parmo but if you’re going to par(mo)take then you might as well do it properly. Excellent food.

Ey I tell you what. If you’re after a parmo it doesn’t get much better than this place. I visited here to meet some pals. I drive from Huddersfield which took me over 2 hours. The food didn’t disappoint. Flippin eck it wa good. I’ll let the pictures do the rest. Great food great place. I’ll be back here.

Went to try out Parmo as I had heard that menu was out of this world and the food didn't disappoint. Food was brilliant, good portions and delicious but the service did not match. Once order taken, no checking if we needed anything else, had to ask for more drinks, 1st tea cup given was dirty, then milk jug was also dirty. When raised with girl behind bar when I paid and shown the dried on food, she didn't seem interested. I removed the tip that had been automatically added on to bill as I felt service was not as it should be.

Don't know if this was a one off or the standard. The Italian parmo was so full of grease and you couldn't taste any Bolognese at all. The price for that left a worse taste in my mouth than the parmo did. Would not recommend.

Was really looking forward to going here as I had heard good things so decided to use my birthday meal as the perfect opprtunity. However I ordered the fun guy parmo and I was left feeling unsatisfied and sick, I don't know what happened in between the kitchen and my table but something on my plate tasted like it was out of date. The chips were average and the drink nothing special (just a coke) definitely won't be visiting again any time soon. For a place know to be 'famous' for its 42 parmos i am very disappointed.

Came to the ship as Parmo fans as a place which came highly recommended. Arrived right on opening (12) and were the second table to order. food took 57 minutes to arrive, which to be fair there was a warning on the menu saying its fresh, however this wasn't a busy time. In all honestly we wouldn't have minded the wait if the food had arrived hit. The hottest meal was the one for a toddler and the portion was good. My husbands patmo platter also arrived hot but my platter was luke warm to cold at best and so was my mother's cheeseburger. In fairness to the staff as soon as we mentioned the cold chips they were quickly replaced, which begged the question why cold food took so long in the first place. The staff were apologetic and we were given a discount but I couldn't est my meal and packaged it up. A replacement was offered which would have been 20 minutes and sadly after already waiting an hour this wasn't possible. Friendly staff, nice venue and atmosphere, massive food let down which seemed massively avoidable. Really shame and we won't be returning

I’m not really one to leave reviews but I’ve got to say me, my son and my friend had our first experience tonight and it was just lovely. The food was 10 out of 10 couldn’t complain. Worth every penny. I work in a pub myself and my son kept saying I need a 2ndjob here so he can eat it everyday lol, I’m not telling our chef. Service was fantastic, I’m not sure if the sparkler in the ice cream comes as standard or just because my son was being a giggle with the staff but it’s made his day, the place was cosey and warm and spotless and we left happy and full and definitely going to recommend and return! Thank you

Amazing place, hands down the best parmos in teesside! The service was fantastic, staff were friendly we asked for a warm table, and they seated us in a nice cosy table next to a fireplace. Took us a while to select what we wanted as the campus parmo map with parmos themed from different countries of the world had an insane amount of options, so there's something for everyone's taste. My partner ordered the dirty southern parmo, which has Jack Daniels sauce and crispy bacon on with purple slaw, said it was the best parmo she has had. She ordered the small which was still a good size and she enjoyed it so much she whmished she had ordered a bigger one. I chose the Kiev parmo, which was chicken Kiev creamy sauce and garlic with herbs, and it was so tasty and really nice. Will definitely be back to try a different parmo next time and would highly rdccomend this place to everyone. They did have a nice menu outside of the parmos aswell offering classic pub foods, smash burgers, and much more.

Nice food, plesant staff. Only problem is the tipping system its auto added to bill, but you can take off but makes you feel uncomfortable.

Food was decent, expensive but decent. The service was terrible, table was booked and food picked in advance however we were still sat there for 1 hour 15 minutes before food came out and that was despite asking the staff on a number of occasions where our food was. None of them seemed particularly bothered, even as the table behind us left after getting tired of waiting for their food. No explanation or apology given. Attitudes were poor, wouldn't go back.

Good hearty food with good service

Food was fine, but probably would not order the same meal again (daube of beef). Pub was cold, uncomfortably so. Music was loud and a bit annoying. Staff were nice.

Went here for a date night on Wednesday 4th December and had booked a table the morning of. Thankfully we did as it was quite busy. Arrived about 10 minutes early but our table was ready and we sat down. The staff took our order quickly and the food arrived. Everything was delicious and hot (maybe a bit too hot as I think I burnt my mouth on the cheese 🤦🏻‍♂️). I had the pommie (bbq sauce and bacon) Parmo, my fiancée had the festive (brie, cranberry sauce and a giant pig in blanket) parmo and we shared a portion of onion rings. The only downside for us was the loud table with 2 children next to us but this isn't the restaurant's fault so I can't mark them down for it. I'm hoping it's quieter on our next visit but I'm glad the pub is getting a good amount of trade.

Best place for a Parma! I’d highly recommend coming here for Parma on any occasion, it’s a great way to try different flavours in smaller portions so gives you a chance to have the full experience.

I love trying the different Parmos. Always taste lovely . The staff have always been friendly.

First visit. Really nice. Great service. Lots of Parmo choices if that's your thing, but the rest of the menu has food that is a lot better than you would expect from the very reasonable prices. See you again soon.

So good I came back the next night! I visited on a business meal out and was that impressed at how good the parmo was I brought my family back the next night for a birthday meal out. Probably be back again next week too 😂 Update, keep coming back here every few months, one of our favourite places, can't beat the parmo range but the other meals are really good to. 10 out of 10 recommended

I called in for lunch with my son. We both had the fish & chips. Decent portions cooked well. Nice selection of desserts, too.

So disappointed with the food and service today! I have visited many times in the past and it’s just gone down hill dramatically over the past few visits. The Sunday roast was absolutely terrible today, the meat was hard and dry. Roasties and Yorkshire puddings awful. Extremely overpriced for what we received. I tried to complain multiple times to 3 different members of staff without even an apology, the supervisor was extremely rude and uninterested in my complaint, noting was offered! Very disappointed ☹️

just been seated at 18:30 and giving parmo menus and Sunday menus to get told after 30mins of us sat there looking at menus and chatting, they came over and told us they had no chicken parmos but waited till we got drinks before there told us what a joke, just wasted time going there. as I cant put a reply to you i am adding to my review your management is lieing to you as we didn't even stay and eat with you we left before ordering food so think you should look into the lies there are telling you awell

Food was ok nothing spectacular price was a little more than I would normally pay for a parmo. Service was slow not what you need when you have kids with you.

Visited here as seen some online things around their Parmos. It was very busy when we arrived so would recommend booking on a Friday and Saturday personally. The menu, wow, parmos around the world. Very unique and would definitely recommend. Loads of options to choose from.

My wife and I together with another couple went to the ship last week. The service was great, prompt, tentative, very friendly. We all ordered from the Parmo menu and weren’t disappointed at all. I chose the mixed plater hot shot chicken parmos, it was one of the best meals I’ve had ever. We will absolutely return. 10/10. Well done to The staff at The Ship. 👍🏼

Visited today and we had a beautiful Sunday dinner, staff were very attentive and the portion sizes are huge! Dog friendly, which my little pooch enjoyed! Highly recommend and can't wait to return!

I visited the Ship on the 22/09/24, I was served by Georgia (blonde hair, tied back in a ponytail) and all I can say was how excellent she made the experience. She was very attentive and friendly and made our time in the pub very enjoyable! Food wise, I ordered the Dirty Deep South and my husband, the beef Sunday roast. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality for a standard pub. We shall definitely be returning! Thank you

I have always wanted to eat here since I moved to Teesside after hearing my friends and family rave about the place. I'm so glad I did! My partner and I enjoyed a cosy dinner here one Tuesday evening. It was busy but they still found us a table. We were served promptly by friendly staff, and our food arrived in good time. We both had burgers, which were delicious and very filling, and I loved the chips with skins on. The only issue I had was I'd have liked a bit more sauce on my bun as it was quite dry. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience, and the food was worth the money but only as an occasional treat.

We called in for lunch after trailing round trying to find somewhere to eat that was dog friendly, we'd just returned from a trip away in our campervan,, this was a Sunday and the place was very busy. We got seated near the door, ordered a drink, and checked out the menu!. we would have had sun lunch but at £20 plus, thought a tad expensive 🫤, so went for a parmo instead. Food arrived, looked nice enough, so ordered 2 large glasses of wine, so glad it was white!! had only had a mouthful of food when wine arrived, young lass balancing 2 glasses of wine on a tiny tray, desaster waiting to happen, she stood there and managed to tip 2 lge glasses of wine all over me, my food, the chair etc. I stood up sharpish and everyone looked, very imbaracing, I was soaked literally, glass smashed everywhere, she quickly vanished, our food was whisked away under our noses, I got a quick sorry about that from a dark haired girl, and that was it! I know accidents happen but 🙄 I was left dripping, asked for a towel or cloth, but no nothing, I had to leave and went and changed in the carpark in our campervan😳 if we weren't in that I don't know what I'd have done, when I returned the manager in charge was there sweeping up the glass which had gone under everyone's tables and we'd been put on another table,, he never apologised, nothing!! 😠 we received another wine and our food was replaced,, but we'd ordered sides which they didn't replace, and my parmo I'm sure wasn't the one I'd ordered, but I couldn't be bothered by then. They gave us the bill, £69 😲, I'd had my clothes ruined, made to look stupid, they'd charged us for the sides we never got,, the food was nice but way over priced for what you get, and the bill had 10% service charge, no customer service what soever,, a joke really🙄 they could have at least not changed us for the wine, to compensate But No,, nothing, not even a sorry!! even other customers said to us you should not have to pay, hence I won't be returning or recommending them!! Shame because it use tobe a nice pub..

We stopped by The Ship as uts somewhere my partner has wanted to eat at for years, and it didn't disappoint. We both went for a burger, and these things are like stacked 3 course meals. Tender hot & tasty and very filling, along with some loaded hash browns. It was certainly something new and we do recommend the place, but it is quite pricey and definitely not your average regular pub lunch. It was lovely for the 1 time visit which is where we'll leave it. Recommended for excellent food & attentive staff.

Service right from the start was fabulous. We didn't have a reservation as we were on holiday and just popped in. The food was fabulous and piping hot. Would definitely recommend.

Food is amazing. from the size to the variety and the quality of the parmesana it's a 10/10. The service was slow, mostly due to how busy it was. But it wasn't rude or poor. The atmosphere was fine, but due to it being the kids holidays there was a few running around and screaming. Over all very good and booking is a must.

Lovely food and good potion sizes. Friendly staff, service a little slow, but it was busy at the time. No mocktails on drink menu, nice decor and atmosphere. Kids colouring and puzzle on kids menu with crayons, though we had to ask for it. Could do with something in the garden area for kids.

Lovely food but abysmal service, soooo slow and forgotten parts of the drinks order, table partially cleared after the 1st course then forgot about again when reminded for the 2nd time they took the dessert order, unfortunatly the service has put me off ever going back, shame, but there are plenty of other places.

I've been to the ship many many times but yesterday we fancied a change from a parmo so ordered fish and chips and a steak pie in the garden.This was the worst bar food I've ever been served and it isn't cheap either! pie was dry and meat was tough and the fish was soggy and hardly any fish in it,don't get me started on the chips which were beyond bad soggy greasy offering.The wine and prosecco are £8 and £10 a medium glass before they add 10% on all of it for"service".The manager wasn't interested with complaint saying we had eaten it before seeing her which we hadnt.Lost a regular customer.Very very overpriced place now.AVOID until they get a chef

It was Sunday so only Sun lunch & parmos available, food was OK but food & drinks very expensive & added 10%service charge which you don't have time to see because you pay @ bar not bring bill to table!

Had a mixed experience yesterday evening. The Parmo was really nice and probably on par with the Merlin. A few issues though that over shadowed our evening. The glasses were dirty, my friend found something in the bottom of his glass. The chips were not cooked, quite raw and the desert the brownie on the menu said chocolate orange ice-cream but instead came with toffee ice-cream. We were not notified about this change. One last point is the need more support at the bar. There was 1 guy he was really nice but he was so busy trying to deal with everything. A bit more attention to customers at the bar would be my recommendation.

We ordered drinks and the server wasn't sure what was on the menu or what we were asking for. We believe he was new and didn't know the drink menu, when I asked about orange juice he replied I don't know what orange we have. When the drinks arrived a different man rushed over saying "I'll just put them there (at the end of the table)" while he ran back to the bar. We looked at each other thinking is there a rush for something that was a bit unusual" Then he came back and quickly put the drinks down on the edge of the table and walked off. Maybe it's just us, but usually the waiter would bring your drink to you saying I have a Diet Coke ect... and place it down in front of you. After waiting a long time for someone to take our food order, we noticed people who'd come in after us, had there orders taken and food arrived before us. We waited over 1 hour and decided to ask how long our food would be. The food came out and the meals tasted nice. However we weren't given any cutlery, so we went back up and got cutlery from someone. Then when the vegetables came out for the Sunday dinner there wasn't any spoons for the mash/ cauliflower ect..We visited late on a Sunday afternoon so there wasn't many people around us, which is why we were a bit shocked that the service was so bad. They took £8 of the bill for the inconvenience and apologised, but we had spent nearly £100. Due to trying it for the first time and having such a bad experience I don't think we would visit again.

Went there for a late lunch and had Silk Road parmo and bree parmo. Both were absolutely delicious perhaps one of the best parmo I have ever had. Food portions are generous, I struggled to finish my regular parmo and perhaps should have ordered a small rather than regular. There are a lot on the menu for vegetarians. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The pub is dog friendly but the dedicated space is bit tight sober decided to stay in the beer garden. The outside tables are set in a lovely garden and have covered beer green area. There is plenty of parking space and it’s free for patrons. I would definitely go back.

Parmo specialists and good at it I had the bacon de Brie and the dci had the Tennessee while Ellie went for the Whicker man all excellent Jojo picked the chicken shawarma which was really just a chicken skewer but tasty bill was £120 with a round of drinks so not for everyday dinning

Am afraid to say, very expensive though. Almost £10 for a starter that would probably cost £6 elsewhere, considering there were just two of us, and they added £6 service charge.

Food really is nice if you are after a parmo and have visited several times, but the pricing really has become ridiculous, and I do not begrudge spending money on a quality meal. Have seen a few replies on here from the business speaking to their prices and frankly being quite dismissive to their customers. Ordered 2 small Parmesan’s (one with chorizo on top another with bacon and brie). They were good, but they cost us £38.50 with a garlic dip on the side. Inflation is one thing but having been fortunate to continue to dine out through the recent cost of living crisis, this cannot be a justifiable cost for a a chicken breast dinner… and £6 for a lager shandy. Others have addressed the service charge and been dismissed, but will reiterate that a 10% service charge was added to our bill (a table of two who found their own seat outside, carried their own drinks and cutlery to the table…) so do be aware of this when it comes time to settle up.

Went here on Saturday afternoon Food was OK had parmos, asked for garlic which is usually free but not here it's £1per small tub, We were charged £87, for 3 people and after we left I checked bill and discovered an (optional service charge had been added which was a surprise to us, apparently it's on the menus well it must be in small writing and nobody let us know this would be added So I class this as theft but have now received a message saying I can have it refunded, Well how about not adding it to start with, The food is OK but I would not of paid a service charge it was expensive enough, I have now read reviews and I see lots of other people mentioned this and their surprise, So clearly it is not easy to see on menu s and neither is anyone informing people, We won't go in again and I'm sure this pub will be losing plenty of customers

Popped in for a bite to eat late afternoon. The restaurant was fully booked, but there were free tables in the garden. We both went for Parmo dishes. They were tasty and hot. Well, it's worth a visit if you're in the Redmarshall area.

I came hear because a few work friends had said it was lovely and really nice so thought I’d give it a go for my 40th. Me my wife and son all got 3 different parmos 2 were ok so my family said but mine the chicken was so thin I was gutted. It all tasted ok but when you pay so much for something like that you wouldn’t expect a really thin but off chicken Brest. Would not recommend going hear my self for the price off it get your self to the jolly sailor on the moor roads. Or fox covet well better value for money for your food

Visited with friends, we booked a table ahead of time, but were able to get seats for 5 the same day which was great for the short notice. There's a huge selection of parmos to choose from, in the end we'd gone for classics, but I've also had a mac and cheese topped one before which was very nice.

We've been here multiple times and perfect every time, it has to be the best place if you like to eat out... Big thank you to all that works there

I had high hopes for the Ship, but I was left disappointed. The staff failed to follow simple instructions, neglecting to spice up the base as requested, which was a major letdown. Although the atmosphere was pleasant, it wasn't enough to compensate for the subpar food and service errors. Overall, the experience didn't meet my standards, and I struggle to recommend it. Edit: to respond to your reply, I did not pretend to know the owner - I am unsure as to where that has come from. - and your "talented waitress" said so herself she put through to the chef to spice up the base - they did not listen. If I could, I would rate this spot even lower due to your response, instead of taking ownership, you are defecting! Please learn to take criticism, as a business it's pivotal that you improve! P.S. yes, I do eat out at parmo restaraunts and this is by far the worst (in terms of taste), what I ordered anyway. Also, the prices have increased and they have not updated their menus - so I was actually charged extra at the till, which was a surprise but paid it nonetheless as I just wanted to leave. Bill came to around £60 Thank you :)

Foods great. If you want a parmo this is the place to come to!

We visited a few weeks ago for parmo and got the deluxe platter. Wow what an incredible dinner. We will be back!!

My partner and I shared the Top Deck munch box, and it was incredible! Staff were friendly as always and the food was delicious! Thank you!

I don't have a problem with the service or the atmosphere as they where both brilliant however, I got the peppercorn chicken thinking it would come with a nice juicey, chicken brest and thick peppercorn sauce and this didn't happen!!!! What came out was absolutely not worth 19 pound, 5 little what looked like middles from chicken gusons, a few sad looking vegetables and a tiny pot of chips! to make it worse the sauce wasn't even a sauce, it was a puddle of what can only be described as dirty dish water as it was flavourless.

Called in on a spur of the moment, wasn't disappointed at all. The food was excellent, as usual. Great service, too.
