The Shimla Palace in Stafford

We had been recommended here so wanted to try. Not disappointed at all Very good quality food Lovely friendly staff We visited on a Saturday night and it was very busy We did have to wait quite a bit for food but as it was so busy we didn’t mind we just chatted at the table. Food came with a smile and an apology for the delay - which was good. Great quality food, and excellent tastes Superb value for money too

First time visiting on a Saturday evening and absolutely loved it. Delicious food, good quality, lots of veggie choices. Tables are in segmented areas of this historic coaching inn which gave it a great ambience. Good service; despite not being in a 'main' dining area, we were never waiting for or looking for staff, they were very attentive.

This is one of the most friendly restaurants that you could visit. Mo is a very congenial and welcoming host and make everyone feel like a regular. The food is excellent and we can thoroughly recommend The Telapia Shatkora which two if our party had as well as the Chicken Jalfrezi and the Bombay Chicken Tikka. Starters and desserts and good value drinks made for very enjoyable evening. This restaurant is easily accessible from the canal and we have used it three times to date.

Our 2nd time visiting as a couple and was as good as the first. We don't live in the area but we were on our way home up north after being down south and took a 20 mile detour to make a 2nd visit. The staff are the most attentive and welcoming. The food excellent and the draft Cobra perfect. Would definitely recommend and we'll be back again next time we are in the area!!!

We were staying with my parents who live nearby. When making the order, we were told there was a 20-25 minute wait for the take away. Actually it was nearer to a hour. It took 5 minutes to drive home. I served it straight away and sorry to say it was barely warm. Lukewarm at best. Some was actually cold. It’s a shame because the taste was great. Wonder how long our order was left waiting to be brought out?

I return time and time again..This restaurant is simply the best. The flavours of the food are always superb. Faz, Mo and all the team are always friendly and happy to help. Tonight's meal was excellent again. I don't right many reviews but I just wanted to say thank you to Faz and your excellent team. See you again soon. If you're looking for a great curry, then this is the place to come.

2 hours to deliver and no phone call. Disappointing. They did reduce the cost but took far too long.

Been here a few times now to eat in and few takeaways. Always very busy on a weekend which is a great sign! Great atmosphere friendly team and food is decent too. Can't recommend anything un particular as tend to go for something different each time. Thanks guys

I had chicken curry, but the chunks of chicken were tasteless. Pre boiled and added to a sauce? Whatever, no taste to the chicken. Otherwise service and everything else fine.

I had a meal here this evening with a party of 6, and the food served was just fantastic. It all tasted and looked absolutely delicious! Service was also incredible where the servers and other staff interacted very well with everyone and the children in our group which was just an overall amazing experience. I highly recommend trying it out here, you won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic service from a great front of house guys. From the minute you walk in , eat and leave you are looked after. Food was absolutely fantastic, full marks to all.

First time we’ve used this restaurant looking forward to our meal that just cost £43 took hour and half to arrive it was cold no cheese in the Nan bread and the curries were very bland just terribly disappointing had a . Few mouthfuls each and went. Straight in the bin what a pile of tasteless sludge called up to complain they wanted the food back unfortunately as it was thrown in the bin a photo was not good enough they offered a 25 % discount on next order but won’t be using again

Honest review. Meal .it was expensive and poor .it was just warm,I had lamb curry there where tiny little bits of lamb cut small to make it look more.and there was lettuce all around my plate.lettuce with a curry weird. Now the worst bit,we waited 1 hour 45mins for our meal ridiculous. I found it very disappointing. Expected better

Have had takeaway and never had a complaint - but in the restaurant was even better! The staff are so friendly and the food was just as delicious (tasted better as I don’t have to wash up!) would thoroughly recommend

Went to Shimla 3.12.22 only to be put in a room with 8 male party animals and staff refused to move us despite 1 of our party being disabled and distressed with their actions. Staff said nothing to rowdy party - they were too scared - should have had a word or called police. Shameful! Refused to give money back for meal. This is how they deal with regular and disabled guests. They admitted the party was very rowdy but wouldn't give full refund. Have asked for cctv footage in room but they havn't sent it to me as requested. Absolutely disgraceful. Avoid at all costs.

Went here with my Family, a table of 6. Restaurant was half full, by the time we had paid the bill and left the restaurant it was 2 hours and 50 minutes. The service was woeful. Was sat in a corner and forgotten about. The food was awful, my children had Chicken tikka masala and this tasted like Heinz tomato soup. My wife had the shimla special, there was nothing special about this. My wife has a really bad stomach now. Even the Naan bread didn’t taste of anything. A real shame as I heard some great reports about this place. The beer was ok though.

First visit to the Shimla Palace and it certainly won’t be the last. Good food, very attentive staff, very comfortable and a pleasure to be there. Highly recommended.

Very poor. Spent nearly £90 on a large order that was meant to take an hour. We waited nearly 2 hours and when we arrived we realised that they had not offered any complimentary popadoms or extras such as mango chutney. After paying we studied the receipt and we were charged over £5 for 8 popadoms after spending the amount we had there. We went back in to ask if we could have the popadoms for free as we had payed nearly £90.They refused and handed us a menu and said “here’s our menu read it and you’ll know our prices” . Obviously their motive isn’t to help the customer and we asked if they would take the popadoms off the order to reduce the extortionate price. Disappointed, we had hoped for a tasty meal, however all of the dishes were extremely bland, the cheese nan had no cheese in it, onion Bhajis were over cooked and some meals were cold. Will not be going back.

Having visited the Shimla palace and had takeaways for years I must say it is my favourite place to eat, the lads at the Shimla are so friendly and over the years I've celebrated many a family birthday with them (including my memorable 18th). I must say being able to still have a takeaway from them during the lockdown was a highlight. Continually great service and food! Whilst this review is a little late I know their values and customer service will have not faltered. I very much look forward to visiting in person again soon.

Very lovely customer service, called up to book a table came across to the restaurant manager Moh who was really nice and friendly and directed me there. Got there was greeted through the door and was served by Yusuf who was really friendly recommended me many different dishes which was the best restaurant dishes I’ve had in a very long time. Loved it so much that I went back the next day, friendly staff, friendly people, lovely food, probably the best place to dine in, in the UK. The next day ended up having so much fun that ended up having a laugh and so much fun after closing hours and ended up having a drink with Yusuf. Have had a time of my life at this restaurant and would definitely recommend to go there without fail, whether it’s for takeaway or eat in. Thank you once again to the team and Yusuf for being brilliant.

Had our first takeaway last night after numerous visits of eating in. Super food, not swimming with grease like other take outs we have had from other restaurants. We have a child with a nut allergy and the staff were totally on it when taking our order over the phone, we also requested no fresh coriander and that was also adhered to. We ordered a sag aloo(amazing), peshwari naan and garlic naans, a balti, a tawa special and shimla special. Complimentary popadums and dips came too with meal. Nothing was left, amazing food and lovely staff.

Five of us ate earlier this week and the meal was fantastic. I hardly ever finish a meal but I ate everything- as did everyone else. We thoroughly enjoyed all courses, the food was wonderful. Staff are attentive but not intrusive. We’ll be back.

Went here with several colleagues for an end of year treat..great food, wonderfully presnted and attentive anf helpful staff...bring your own drinks but it's worth it..

What a meal!The food just cannot be improved upon.I've yet to find a better tasting Madras and the Tandoori mixed grill was the best ever.All the food was well presented and served with a smile.Attentive and friendly staff with a great sense of humour made our meal even better!I'm not saying where the best table is as it is our secret!!Every table is a good table,though, but they don't have the ambience ours had.The experience is well worth the distance we have to travel and I highly recommend booking in for a meal there or grab a takeaway. You will not be disappointed.

Another fantastic meal last night in our favourite Bangladeshi restaurant.Great to see Mo again and so much more of him!I had a fish curry for starters, Liz a Prawn Purie followed by a Lamb Tawa and chapati. My main was a Chicken Murghi Shishlick ( I think!). Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks guys.

We've had a takeaway from the Shimla Palace in Rugeley every week for the last 4 weeks. The service is excellent, from the moment you place your order to the food being delivered to your door. The food always arrives on time and social distancing is always met, the delivery drivers wear masks and gloves too.I am so grateful to Shimla Palace for giving us something to look forward to in this unprecedented time. A big thank you to all the staff at Shimla and a special mention to Faz, who is so, so helpful.Also, if you have dietary requirements just ask Faz he really knows his stuff.Excellent food and service. During this unsettling time of lock down the Shimla Palace is providing an excellent takeaway/delivery service. As always the food was excellent and a delight to eat. Well done for support the local community.

Had a family meal here recently and the curries were all beautifully cooked with amazing spices. Staff were very efficient and helpful.

This is our second review of this amazing restaurant that offers exceptional food at very reasonable prices. We use the takeaway menu and have never failed to be utterly impressed by the quality of the meals. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and whilst, for very good reason it can become very busy orders are always ready. Simply wonderful and of course highly recommended.

We have recently had 3 amazing vegetarian take aways, stuffed pepper starter,vegetable jalfrezi and Balti with sides of aubergine, chickpeas/potato, garlic fried rice , lovely food and great service from staff and delivery drivers .

Booked dinner with friends weeks ago. Our treat. Booked in our name, but one of our friends great customer of theirs, so they pretty much ignored us after that, even when my husband paid massive bill. Waited 45 minutes to order and 75 minutes for starters, which were disappointing. Takeaway customers took massive precedence. We have always supported them through thick and thin, but frankly we're invisible and for me the last straw was them thanking our friends as we left. They probably think we didn't show up. Not sure feeling invisible is a good restaurant experience. Finally x young waiter being rude to me and telling me he had got me back in my 69s put the icing on my disappointment cake. We walked a mile in the pouring rain to get to them. Saddle.

Really love The Shimla Palace I always find the food excellent both take away and when eating in. The staff are always polite and friendly. Be back soon.

I have used the Shimla for a number of years... however not since being close down for illegal immigrants as staff... tonight I though would order a take away from my old favourite restaurant.... what a disappointment food was not edible..:. The hot curry I ordered had no taste or heat at all... will not be returning....

Really good selection of food all cooked to the highest quality, there really is something for everyone. The staff are very friendly and its a very welcoming atmosphere. Cant fault this place for take out or eating in, all at a very reasonable price for the quality.

Friendly reception from all staff. Staff enquired to our likes and dislikes and menu was planned accordingly with extra ginger, garlic etc added/removed to taste. Food was well presented and delicious. Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Highly recommend.

10 out of 10. Great guys, great service and can’t see why I’d want to go anywhere else. Have had lots of curry’s in lots of restaurants but these guys listen to what you like and they adjust their menu accordingly. I’ve had 2 perfect curries in my last 2 visits. Can’t praise this restaurant high enough

Met friends here for a meal on a Saturday night. Very friendly welcome and despite being busy was very efficient. Bit of a wait for the main course but excellent quality. Recommend the Tawa.

Read about this restaurant in our canal guide so planned a visit as we were going to be passing. We booked a table in advance for Saturday evening - good job we did as it seemed to be full! Excellent professional, friendly service and superb food. We ordered starters of chicken Tikka and onion bhaji followed by Tawa chicken, lamb rezala and lamb Rogan Josh together with a vegetable rice, it was all fresh and tambourine - we loved it! Definitely plan to return when we are next in the area. Thank you.

This restaurant was recommend by a friend and it came up to all expectations.

Visited early doors this eve and place was busy . We had 3 kids ( one rather messy - sorry ! ) and 3 adults.

Friendly staff. Popular too, which is a good sign. Shimla mixed kebab not worth it I think. I had the murghi Masala for £11 again for the dolla not a great amount and I've tasted better. I'd go again to try other dishes but my tastebuds didn't scream out for more.

Our meal was ordered at 6pm for a 7pm delivery. Arrived at 6,60pm. We are about a mile & a half away. The meal was cold! Both meals were very poor, lacked flavour, the cheese man lacked cheese. A very , very poor meal from a restraint that used to be so good. The counter in Asda does better as does Tesco.

i orded some food for my wife and myself the knifes and forks were dirty even table clothe wasent clean , no toilet paper in toilets or soap to wash our hands very upset i complained and was told by member of staff if i dident like it go somewere else

We are visitors to the area the Shimla was recommended to us. It was a birthday celebration meal (15th Oct) Everything was wonderful.

A last minute booking got us in on a Saturday night and I was not disappointed. It was very busy and therefore I would recommend booking a table in advance.

Really friendly staff, nice welcome and fairly quick service. Food could be much better however. Our dal tarka, aloo gobi and bhindi were all insipid, tandoori rotis were doughy. Ok chicken tikka and kids loved their korma.

Lovely setting in building full of character and history. Warm greetings from friendly staff. Food was super and we finished everything! Some good fruit and meat combinations. Recommend this lovely restaurant.

I can't reccommend this restaurant enough. The Bengali fruit curry is sublime. Service is friendly and attentive. Surroundings are clean and fresh. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed .

We arrived at the restaurant at 6:30pm and received our mains at 8:20pm. We didn’t mind the wait at first but after an hour went by we had to call over a worker to see how long it was going to be and then a few seconds later it came, the food was amazing but if you go be ready to sit for a good few hours. We also found that people who were getting a takeout were served a lot quicker than the customers eating in. Over all it was a good, filling meal and I recommend if you don’t mind waiting

We had given up on this place late last year after consistently being let down by long waits for take away food to be delivered. generally they would quote an hour wait but in fact none arrived within 1hr 45mins and one didn't arrive at all. Shocking service.

3rd time I’ve ordered a takeaway Indian from here, have tried a variety of specials , had extra tasters provided, arrives on time, fresh ingredients, huge king prawns, great telephone manner and friendly delivery in a brilliant box. Delicious! Please keep up the fab work and taste!!

Stale poppadoms, luke warm curry... then found a hair ball in the curry!!!!! Hair ball like from a hoover! Not acceptable.... ever!!!

Picked up a take away from here tonight and can only say that it is the most tasteless Indian meal I have ever had! (I’ve had quite a few).

This was our 2nd visit and we had a brilliant meal and the service was excellent. They are very friendly and helpful and also interactive. They always have a laugh. The food was great. We will be visiting again!

The 4 of us attended as a treat - 2 adults and 2 children ages 12 and 13.

Our regular Indian restaurant for the past 10 years says it all I guess. Wonderful food and really friendly staff make for a great experience. Need to take your own alcohol at the moment due to a licensing issue.
